Hadn't eaten at Aberdeen Barn in a number of years. We were surprised when we arrived to find the parking lot full. Found the interior to be nicely decorated. A bit on the manly side with a lot of sports memorabilia. Dress was very casual. Service was top notch. Waiters were all male and middle aged or slightly older. My wife and I shared a 14 oz ribeye steak. It was well prepared and had great flavor. We thought it was a bit pricey , but that's the direction restaurant prices are going In today's economy. This was our second anniversary dinner. More so would like to just commemorate this event with a review. Aberdeen barn will forever be a luxury eat out experience for me. Prices are high, food is excellent, and service has always been one of my favorites in the entire town. If this place was more affordable I would go more often. I can not imagine a more perfect steakhouse for people. I'm Gen-X and my kids are Gen-Z and Alpha and we all love it. You need to know walking in this isn't visually 2025 steakhouse. This is the steakhouse of your father and grandfather. Simple, without the unnecessary flair and the complete focus on the food. The steak whether it prime rib, filet, NY, T-bone is spot on perfect. The sides simple but perfect. The service is unmatched, I can never recommend Drew or Marcus enough. Ignore the low review and go in knowing it will bring you right back to your childhood of the fine dining place in decor but the food that I'm 2025 is still spectacular. read more

We love a good steakhouse. We had never been here but at the last minute we were invited by family members that were visiting. We decided to join. The first thing I noticed was the limited menu options and very high prices, which is not too unheard of for good steakhouses. A high priced steak can be worth the money if it's the right cut and tastes good. Had a "14oz" ribeye that seemed scrawny, half slimy fat, and sparsely seasoned. I almost asked for A1 if that helps explain the steak for you. I would not have had a problem spending $75 on a steak if it tasted good. My wife had scallops; I think it was either 5 or 6 scallops that smelled like a dirty fish tank and were very overcooked. I enjoy a low lighted establishment, but this place was somewhat dark. Derek was a good waiter, and actually brought the score up. The bar looked nice. I think my biggest problem was premium steakhouse prices for the same steak I could get at Golden Corral. read more

(Go Terps) As always, I tried the Oysters Rockefeller, they were okay, a little too broiled and slightly over cooked. My filet and baked potato were perfection! My cocktail was perfect. Joe served us and was spectacular. Staff were sweet! Ambiance is giving small town, upscale vibes. Dimly lit, ancient building, decor is screaming steakhouse. Good food, if a little uninspiring. A plain baked potato with cut of broccoli in a bowl with fixings on the side and standard fare bread. Strip was cooked well. A little basic for the huge prices. Atmosphere was ok. A little thick with country-club decor and not even semi-private dining (we had a tiny table in the corner). Service was unimpressive. When we walked in we were not greeted, the hostesses just stared at us like we were lost until we had to ask for a table. Other patrons weee treated the same way. The casually dressed waiter was a little intrusive and loud but did ok except for presenting our check before we ordered dessert. We love a good steakhouse and this is the place if you do too. Service and food were excellent. Our server, Ms. Lorna was friendly and efficient and made a great recommendation to have the chocolate cake for dessert. One of the best we've ever had. Chef Sam prepared the Delmonico steak perfectly and the prime rib was delicious (even better than the prime rib we often have at one of the top restaurants in DC that is know for their prime rib.) The decor may not be slick or modern but it's well maintained and inviting. Hope you enjoy your meal as much as we did. read more

The only reason this didn't get a higher rating was because it was a little bland. But salt and pepper helped a little. The food was VERY TENDER!!! I would go back based on that alone. After almost 6 years, I decided to go back. Not with my family this time, but with a friend. We had the MOST lovely meal. The ambiance was lively and friendly. The noise level, even in a packed restaurant, was at a minimum volume. The food was delicious, meat was tender juicy and worth the cost, the service was ok. It seemed slightly rushed but not rude or pushy. $6.00 for one piece of broccoli on the side is excessive and, therefore, the only reason I dropped a star. I understand the price on the streaks and fresh seafood, but broccoli? Or a side salad? Too much. I WILL be back, and I really hope it's sooner than later. She was very helpful with suggestions on menu items, I chose the lamb chops and Donovan the New York strip. Both were excellent! My wife and I had dinner there last night, and will never come back! The escargots that I had should not be on the menue. The presentation was sloppy and the shef ruined the flavor . Both my wife and I had a filet mignon and asked for Medium - on the rare side. Two pieces of good quality meat were ruined by the shef because they were prepared with a too low temperature. Aberdeen Barn was recommended to us by a local woman who frequents the place and because she knew I was craving a GREAT steak done correctly with too notch service. Upon first arrival we couldn't find a parking spot. That's a great sign albeit a little inconvenient, but it wasn't a big deal and definitely not AB's fault. We decided to head back to our hotel to freshen up and then come back a few minutes later. We lucked out. Came back, found a primo parking spot and was greeted by Angela who was cheerful and led us to our table right away- and knows the prior-mentioned local. Kathleen was our server. Her assistant busser, while I didn't catch his name, was expedient and brought us our rolls, pretzel sticks with pub cheese spread and butter with a smile on his face. Kathleen got our drink order and food orders in no time as well. Once the food was brought out it was delish. I ordered scallops with filet mignon and my husband got the filet with crab cake. Everything was done to perfection. A good steak doesn't need any sauce and we needed zero sauce. The steaks were ordered medium rare and they were so tender I wanted to take whoever the chef was home so we could have ours done like that every day! We were celebrating being soon-to-be empty nesters and Kathleen didn't disappoint. We got a perfectly sized gluten-free slice of chocolate cake w a candle. It was so rich and a perfect way to top off the meal and occasion. We will be coming back to C'ville over the course of five more years so we will definitely be returning to Aberdeen Barn! Sad as it's 20+year bday and anniversary celebratory dinner spot. warm cocktails, overcooked fish, tiny salad (1 cherry tomato, 1 slice cucumber), undercooked onion rings, $55 petite filet consumed in 5 bites, terrible service (not the waiters fault he had 5 large party tables to wait on solo). twice i was literally run into by staff running between rooms). the piano playing is gone, the host told me to wander the restaurant to find my reserved party seating. $400 for 4 people and we all left disappointed. Visiting from out of town, we were looking for a restaurant that served lamb chops and this restaurant was suggested online. My son and I highly enjoyed our meal. We ordered the escargot and the oysters rockefeller as appetizers. My son ordered the lobster tail as an additional side and we both had baked potatoes with our lamb chops. We ate everything that was given to us; it was that good. Our waitress (can't remember her name - has been there for 30 years) was very hospitable and attentive. Highly recommend! Folks this is a classic steakhouse. The focus of the kitchen is the beef. They do that extremely well! The decor is steakhouse. I did not find it dated, yes the carpet is red, the seating is red leather but it did not show wear, so I'd call it classic. Loved the onion rings with dressing, which were not over salted and the flavor was enhanced by house dip. Hubby had the prime rib and reported it was flavorful without being extremely salty. I had well done petit filet, which came with no pink but still flavorful. Highly recommend the nutty Irish coffee. Only miss step for food was the apple crisp. The apples were either over cooked (dehydrated and chewy) or undercooked and needed to rehydrate. Taste was good for cinnamon and sugar but texture was extra chewy. Our waiter was great, my family enjoyed their food. I tasted my daughter's barn potatoes, it was great. The rolls were soft and flavorful. The atmosphere was nice. As for my food the steamed broccoli was just that, steamed, an plain, just bland, adding butter made it palatable. There was not sprinkle of any seasoning that I could see. I asked for the steak "well, well done". It was very pink, it was on cast iron so I left it thinking it would cook some more, nope, it was pink even when I got home, I ended up taking it to-go. Visiting this place was like a door to the past, in all the good ways. I'm a, um, vintage human, have been wandering the planet for several decades now. One of my favorite things when I was a teenager was being invited to go with my mom and dad to a steakhouse, in one of the cities we were either visiting or living in - that list includes DC, London, San Francisco, San Diego, LA, Vegas, and NYC - to have dinner, grown-up style. For time-framing, think late 1960s/early 1970s. I had been to the Aberdeen Barn in Williamsburg sometime in the early '00s when I was down there on business; it was lovely, but didn't hit me with the same vibe the Charlottesville edition did last night. I was in C'ville shotgunning a friend's medical adventure at UVA Med Center, and after all that was wrapped up, and they were in their room for their night-of-post-procedure-observation, I went to check in to my overnight stay at one of the millions of motels on Rte 29. As I rolled up 29 northbound, I wondered about dinner options, and as I pulled in to the motel I was booked into, I saw Aberdeen Barn was literally next door. Problem solved. Dinner itself was top notch - I hadn't had prime rib in ages, and their princess cut was just the right size. Rare, delicious, and served with grated fresh horseradish. Also impressed by their Barn Potatoes, which were yum. Decent martini mixing happened - steakhouse, you gotta do the full Don Draper and get a martini, right? - and there's a solid short list of wines by the glass, of which I went with the CA pinot noir. Since they don't have my fave single malt at the Barn - I'm a Balvenie girl, all the way - I had key lime pie with my coffee. The grace notes here included eavesdropping on a conversation between a couple - mother and son, I think - and the guy who was waiting on them. It was clear they - the couple, and the waiter taking care of them - knew each other well. Listening to them, and then the conversation I had with the guy tending to me, had me wondering how long my guy had been working at the Barn. "I'm the new guy," he said. "I've only been working here 19 years." The other guy, the one waiting on the couple, has been working at the Barn since he was 19yo, and he now has six kids, one of whom is a senior at VMI. My guess is that that waiter has about thirty years in on the floor there. As my waiter said to me, "there's not a lot of turnover here at the Barn." That vibe is present from the front door, through the meal, and then back out the door again - old-school steakhouse features like dark wood, red leather, hunting prints, and low lighting make it feel luxurious. The food matches the vibe, with classic steakhouse touches like a windowed cold room with aging meat in the foyer, and a beautiful wedge salad as a meal-opener. If I wind up in C'ville again for an overnight, I'll seriously consider a return to the Barn. It stirs up good memories. read more

Went there one day last month. I was never greeted by anyone. The waiter just sat me at the bar without even asking if I wanted a table. I ordered a beer and while sitting there looking at the menu no one ever came to acknowledge me and offer me anything.. I got up and left.. The Ambiance was nothing exciting. The place had little business that night. I went back again to give it a try. A lady sat me and was asking me what I wanted to order. I told Id take a glass of wine to start and will look at the menu. When she brought the wine she asked me again what I wanted to order. I told I hadn't looked at the menu yet. I noticed that 2 tables were filled and the rest of the place was empty. She really pressed me to order food.. I ordered the Prime rib. It arrived and was utterly disappointed in the quality and way it was cooked. It was mushy and under cooked. I ate a little of it and then left. I never have felt so rushed at any restaurant before this one.. Needless to say, I will never be back nor would I recommend this place to anyone.. read more
