There is plenty of room and normally on Monday through Friday there is not a large crowd during the 2-6pm Happy Hour. Table, booth, or bar they normally have room for you. On this visit during their Happy Hour I had a few of their $4 drinks to go with my meal. Their dry cider is worth a try, as is their Devils Backbone Vienna Lager. Their Philly cheesesteak sandwich is loaded with steak and cheese. Be sure to get the skin-on house fries. Their Pastrami Reuben on grilled Rye bread is an excellent choice. The thousands island dressing is homemade. There is a generous portion of Pastrami on their Reuben. Their wait staff is excellent. They are very informed and helpful with all your menu questions and will help you decide on a selection if you are having trouble deciding. Our waiter was most attentive on bring our drink refills. Everything came out hot and crispy, and both the fish and the shrimp had the lightest touch of batter so the seafood flavor really came through. We ordered extra sides (a steal at $3 each!) of mac and cheese and beans. You could make a meal out of the mac and cheese itself-it is a very generous portion of creamy, cheesy goodness! The standout for me of all the dishes was the baked beans. You have never had beans like this. Trust me. I rarely eat beans because they're often too sweet, but Papa's beans are only slightly sweet and laced with an amazing smokey flavor (they are cooked with smoked brisket). I'm excited to come back and try the collard greens! On top of all the fantastic food, Jamar, the owner and chef, came out to ask us about our meal, which was the highlight of our visit. You will not meet a nicer, more caring restaurant owner! He really cares about his customers and you can tell the food is made with heart. It is truly a family business, with Jamar's mom behind the counter and home cooked recipes on the menu. It is worth the wait to get food this good, so kick back with a beer at one of the tables outside while your food is being prepared with love! 5 stars for food, 10 stars for service. It's like going to someone's home for dinner. Pro Tip: You can't see Papa's from the road if you are on North Delphine. It is on the backside of the mini-market on the corner (you may see the picnic tables on the side-that's where Papa's is!).

If you are looking for a lively atmosphere for a date night or a night out with friends, Mas tapas is for you! The staff here is incredible; helpful with their selections and operates like a family. When introducing others to Charlottesville, this is my go to. I cannot even begin to unpack the vibrancy of the food. Anything with aioli is a hit! It's a reminder of the strength of the Charlottesville food scene. It glows with that warm, golden-hour energy -- the hum of conversation, the clink of glasses, the scent of garlic and olive oil drifting through the air. Every dish feels like a small act of intention. The ultimate real pleasure is the rhythm of the place: tapas arriving slowly enough to savor, fast enough to keep you leaning in for more; an atmosphere that manages to feel both lively and deeply relaxed. It's the true peak: a simplicity and richness; a love note in the shape of a restaurant. Must try: - Gambas à la Parilla - Datil Con Tocino -queso con marmelada -ensalada Lechuga -papas bravas

High end tapas...a little pricey, but also worth the price -- unique and creative dishes. The plates came in two sizes -- the regular tapas style and one that is a double portion for double the price. Menu is typewritten and presumably changes with frequency; we enjoyed the carne asada, lamb sliders, bacon wrapped dates, guisado, and a few others -- all delicious. Nice cocktail menu and some interesting (and unusual) wines on the list, both by the glass and by the bottle. The room is surprisingly informal -- bare brick walls, loud music, hip servers in t-shirts - so probably not the place for a business dinner. But for a splurge social occasion and a group that is good sharing food...five stars.

This hotel is in the middle of a college town that has pretty much nothing except Wal-Mart and a Gold's Gym, and it exceeded my expectations for food quality. What I had during my stay there: their traditional buffalo wings, cobb salad, blue ridge BBQ, triple chocolate cake, guacamole, and hazelnut iced coffee. All of these except for the guacamole were enjoyable to eat. The guacamole tasted like artificially mashed avocados and it was overly acidic. I expected salad that was wilted and sandwiches that came out like a plastic mold, but it didn't. It tasted like good food. I docked them one star due to inconsistent service. There was one specific waitress there who gave us so much attitude and stood around the register/computer the entire time. There were other times where the service was excellent, although still a bit on the slow side. It took them a while to take our orders, and screwed up our order as well. We had to remind our waiter to wipe off our table because there were scraps of food and water spots sitting there for a while. The restaurant is only so big, and there were only so many people, I find this to be subpar service.

It was between that and the scallops, which are always great. My wife had an incredible halibut special. The fish was cooked perfectly and all the other elements of our dishes were very tasty. A few in the group had the shrimp risotto which is also an excellent dish. We'll be back (many more times); not just because Zocalo holds a special place in our hearts, but also because the food is delicious, the service is impeccable, and the atmosphere fits us well. A $90…read moreprice fixed menu with a mandatory 20% gratuity regardless of party size...that's a lot, but perhaps not excessive if the food service and ambience merits a $90 per person three course meal. In this instance, it did not. The service was remarkably slow especially for a fixed menu. The waiter repeatedly apologized for the slow service but did nothing remedy the situation. Including not refilling water glasses during the long waits. We were a party of five and only one person was happy with all three of her courses. Whether or not the customer is in alignment with the chef is often a crapshoot, that is not my principal complaint. My complaint is the ambience and the service sorely lacked from what one would it expect for $90 a plate. There were sporting events on various television screens and patrons at the bar could've been mistaken for "Larry the cable guy". Now don't get me wrong, I like Larry the cable guy as much as the next person but if I'm paying $700 for a celebratory dinner for five people I don't wanna eat next to him in a sleeveless flannel shirt and trucker hat. Couple the diminished ambience with the remarkably slow service and color me dissatisfied. Their day-to-day service may be fine but the special occasion should be avoided. We will not be going back
