Mi casita has great Salvadoran food. My friend growing up her family immigrated from El Salvador and this was their favorite place in town for authentic food. Their pupusas are the bomb and they do offer some other options like beleadas and fajitas, so they do some other cuisines too. The baleadas are amazing. Some of the best food I have had. I got the Quesadilla Suprema with chicken and beef and it was absolutely amazing. The rice, out of this world compared to other restaurants I've been to, like it's cooked in a rice cooker. The salad with it amazing as well. Overall very impressed. We did takeout from here on our first night in town. The menu looked promising. My son went in to pick up our food while we took care of other things. While others got their food, the ladies ignored him and then seemed to talk rudely. Not sure as I wasn't there. The food we got was overall not very good at all. The order was placed online. When I ordered my torta, I asked for NO MAYO. What happens? It's drowning in mayo. The yuca was as soggy as can be with zero taste. One might attribute this to takeout and travel, but I order fried yuca all the time from other places and it remains crispy even after a drive. The fries were similarly soggy and flavorless. The guacamole was more like a think chunk of avocado than actual guacamole. The only highlight was the pupusa was pretty good. This was incredibly disappointing. read more

Mi Casita is truly such a gem! The food is so amazing and the servers are incredibly nice. And it's super affordable. My friend and I get the pupusas every time but this time we also tried the tamalitos de elote and a baleada which were both so so good. They are no longer accepting the gift certificates they sold through C'ville local deals in the Fall of 2023 despite their May 2024 expiration date. The food was delicious and at first I had no issues using the gift certificates but on my second visit they even admitted "our manager changed the rules and now you can only use one per visit". This is explicitly *NOT* in the fine print. They sold a bunch of these and then when they realized people were actually going to try and use them they illegally made them harder to use. If they accept them on my next visit I will happily update my review to the 5 stars this restaurant deserves. This spot is a true gem - one of my favorites. Extremely well taken care of (tables are spotless, and the lighting is bright and clean), great music, and really wonderful service/kind servers and, most importantly, *outstanding* food. I almost don't want to write this review, because that'd mean more people would come and discover my favorite spot to eat after a long day. But also the restaurant is too delicious not to share, and I hope they DO become popular, because they deserve it. Get the tamal - so soft and delicate/flavorful. The grilled mi casita special is also delicious (with grilled shrimp, chicken, and steak; actual grill marks and yummy smoky flavor). I also love the chuleta encebollada (fried pork chops with caramelized onions). Just really good quality, authentic, and fresh food and great prices. Our first takeout experience of this quarantine we're living in. Definitely a good choice. We called and ordered and they said it would be ready in 25 minutes--perfect. First time trying pupusas, these were simple and delicious and piping hot. We got them with beans and cheese. They also make a very tasty torta. You can't find tortas too many places around here so I was happy to see it on the menu. We also got an order (4tacos) of tacos al pastor and they were good, but next time I think I'll stick to pupusas and tortas and probably try something new as well. The side of fried plantains was plentiful and delicious and a huge hit with our 2 year old, as I expected they might be. A delicious takeaway dinner; we'll be back! Definitely try this unassuming place in a pantops shopping center out if you're looking for some Latin flavor. read more

This food would be considered good in any city. The price point is crazy. So far I've eaten here twice and I've gotten the carne asada with a side of avocado and I'm never able to finish my meal--both lunch and dinner. The steak is flavorful, but it isn't spicy, so If you're nervous about spice, this is a great option for you. The tortillas taste homemade and are served hot. The rice has a fantastic amount of lime that blends so well with the rest of the meal. Personally I don't like beans so I've passed on them both times, but if they're anything like the rest of the food I've tried here I'm sure it's great. The salsa they bring at the beginning (chips and salsa) is a little too sweet, so I mixed in some hot sauce (on the table) and it was perfect then. My boyfriend joined me this time and he couldn't decide what to get, so he got the carne asada also, but without the side of avocado. He also could not finish his meal, but he loved it and said we can definitely come back here when he comes back to visit me. This restaurant is truly a gem. Finally tried this place out and it did not disappoint whatsoever! Hidden gem for real! Everything we got was delicious. We got a few different things to share, including: tamales salvadorenos with chicken, pupusas with pork and cheese, sopes (thick tortilla topped with meat, beans, lettuce, pico, cheese, and salsa verde), and chicken with plantains. Suffice to say, there was too much food and plenty of leftovers. My favorites were the pupusas and the sopes. Adequate Latin American food. I ordered takeout from Mi Casita and tried the tacos al pastor and the plantains. The tortillas on the tacos were lacking in flavor relative to tortillas that I have tried at other restaurants. The filling for the tacos was also not as flavorful as I hoped but the sauce served alongside helped to mask the flavor deficiencies. The plantains, however, were excellent. Overall, the food was not as good as I hoped, so I am unlikely to try Mi Casita again. read more

Delicious! After a trip to the nearby urgent care center, this was a comfortable, comforting break for lunch. All 6 of us loved it.

My family and I have lived in Charlottesville for over 15 years and this is one of the best restaurant experiences in terms of quality, quantity and authenticity of food that we've had. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was busy in a good way. We ordered quite a bit of food and the service was on the slower side but again, the quality and homemade nature of the food made it completely worth the wait. The staff was super efficient, kind and patient with our pathetic attempts at speaking Spanish. The vibe of the place is great. It feels like you are in a restaurant in a country far away from Charlottesville..... they even brought us out some homemade tortillas when they found out it was our first time visiting. The space is large (with tons of parking in the shared lot) and it was easy to bring our family of five here for lunch on a Saturday. I should preface this review by saying that my husband's aunt is Salvadorian so I had an idea of what to expect. My family is from El Salvador so I think I have SOME familiarity with the cuisine - moreover, the authoritative verdict on what should be considered quality and authentic. Mi Casita exceeded my expectations. Not since visiting El Salvador have I had pupusas this good. If I'm honest, I'll have to hide that fact that I came here from my mom so as to avoid telling her that these are better than hers! (Disrespectful? Maybe... but the truth shall set thee free!) Who am I kidding, I'll tell her so that she can confirm. The staff is friendly, helpful, and patient. The shopping center it's located in has ample parking. The cleanliness of this establishment was of course, spotless. We Salvadorans are more renown for our work ethic than cuisine it seems but the marriage of the two is what you'll experience here at Mi Casita. "My Humble Abode" is the appropriate translation for "Mi Casita". As a rule, if I can make it better at home than the place I'm eating at, I don't eat there anymore. I've enjoyed ordering take out from Mi Casita, BUT I haven't had pleasant experiences dining in (I'm definitely never doing it again) The employees are too busy flirting to actually bring you your food. When asking your server for multiple things at once it's to make their job easier, rather than asking for things one by one. You would think that when they're going back they can (for example) grab some napkins, a container of salsa, some silverware at once and bring it to your table. Instead of bringing everything one by one, especially with things so small and so easy to carry. When it's slow you would think the service would be quicker, instead of bringing out dish.. by dish.. by dish.. by dish. 25 min in between each, when there are lotsss of employees. I've never liked any of their food other than their Baleadas. If you're looking to order online (OR EVEN DINING IN) make sure you're not in a rush bc you'll be there quite a while. read more
