Newest Dairy Market spot finally opened! I've been very excited for Maizal and it was so tasty. It's not your typical assembly line style restaurant. Everything was so fresh and some of the most unique, amazing flavors. I went on their grand opening and looking forward to seeing their full menu unveiled

Outstanding street tacos. The best I've had in C'ville (displaced Torchy's). We had tacos and the Chef's burrito. Really good flavor

I wanted to like it but it was bland. It also didn't help that I had to wait a bit longer than the rest of my family for my order.

The big…read moredisappointment was that the lamb option was not available as part of the restaurant-week menu, and there was no substitute of equal quality and substance offered. (Many people do not eat pork, the only RW alternative to steak.) The butternut squash soup was like puréed baby food: not like soup. The server was very pleasant. The ambiance is quite plain: a little decorative effort would be worthwhile as the food is quite good. The atmosphere should be more special to be in-line with prices & quality. I would go back!

We weren't sure how big they were but when they arrived we realized they're the size of a small taco. The breading was good but the meat didn't have much flavor without the sauce which was really good. We then ordered the chicken and avocado arepa. It was the size of my palm and filled with what I'd describe as chicken salad mixed with avocado. It was ok but not my favorite. I'm a small eater so for me, I'd need two empanadas as a meal but my husband would definitely need 4 and he's an average eater. At $6 for each little empanada (comes without sides or a drink) and $12 for each arepa (comes without sides or a drink), the price just doesn't seem worth it. The service was good and if the price matched the servings we would try again but not at the current price.

Their menu is great, such a nice assortment of soooo many things I absolutely LOVE, but our server told me how amazing the taco assortment and the smash burger was that we got one of each, with me getting the smash burger. Our food came out rather quickly and was amazing, fresh, tasty, and PERFECTLY PREPARED!!! My smash burger was excellent! Exactly what a smash burger should be. I asked for jalapeños to be added to it and they added fresh sliced jalapeños which nicely enhanced the flavor. I typically don't eat the fries that come as a side dish, but these were so darn amazing that I ate them all! They were perfectly double-fried for crispness, yet were fresh, hot, perfectly salted, and sooo tasty! Our experience, the food, the quality, and the service was very nice. I will definitely return!

For an appetizer, we ordered the salsa, spinach artichoke dip and hips. My son ended up going with his standby favorite, a cheeseburger, while I got the pulled pork sandwich and my partner and daughter shared the spaghetti topped with shrimp. Basically, all our favorite foods! For dessert, we recommend the paletas (delicious ice pops). Our kids had so much fun picking out their favorites. Our daughter got the cookies and cream that was packed with full-sized oreos inside, while my son got the classic cherry flavor. The restaurant is decorated for the holidays and we loved getting our photo in front of their Christmas tree. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. This is a definite must-stop spot in Madison.

Our servers were super nice, attentive, and accommodating. They really made the evening special. I had the NY Strip, which was done just right. It was between that and the scallops, which are always great. My wife had an incredible halibut special. The fish was cooked perfectly and all the other elements of our dishes were very tasty. A few in the group had the shrimp risotto which is also an excellent dish. We'll be back (many more times); not just because Zocalo holds a special place in our hearts, but also because the food is delicious, the service is impeccable, and the atmosphere fits us well. We're already looking forward to the next time!

We sat outside and did notice others receiving water and food prior to our table. While our service was not stellar, the food was pretty good. It seemed like everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the chicken sandwich and shared the pear salad. The chicken sandwich was picture worthy, so I apologize no pictures were taken. The sandwich was a messy/saucy buffalo chicken sandwich. It was fresh and crunchy where the buffalo sauce flavors were accented with pickle slices. The pear salad was pretty good too. I know the menu stated there was only going to be a pear vinaigrette, my eyes were wishing to see pear slices. The arugula was fresh and the vinaigrette had pureed pear in it. The name of this salad should be changed - maybe just call it the Zocalo Salad?

At the end of our meal we were given a bill that was about 30% higher than listed on their menu and was told that the updated, correct pricing was located by the checkout register. Ridiculous! They need to get new menus or inform patrons when they are presented with the menus that ALL the prices are different. I assume the blue marker was rubbed off many of the items. As for the food, I liked the menudo, but the chicken was unfortunately dry. Won't be back and wouldn't recommend.

Authentic, Delicious Food…read more Honestly, I've been going to this location for the past six or seven years and the restaurant has only continued to improve. First off, they used to be in the back of the Latino store that is now conveniently connected to the restaurant. After the owners acquired what used to be the horrific Chinese restaurant, they completely remodeled the place into a colorful, vibrant location. Equally as vibrant as the decor is the food that is served at this restaurant. Everything tastes wonderful, and the flavors are well blended. Most of the clientele is still composed of Hispanic people, which to me, is a sign that this place serves authentic cuisine. I believe this location is technically Salvadorian. If you are looking for a sit down, authentic Hispanic restaurant, then this might be your place. It's certainly the most colorful and most inviting in my opinion. My only gripe with this location is some of the inconsistencies. For one, they need to update their menu. Items on the menu are no longer the prices that they used to be due to inflation. I believe the actual prices are up by the counter, so if you plan on eating here, I recommend taking a picture of THAT menu before sitting. Another inconsistency is that they sometimes have chips and salsa and other times do not. When they have their chips and salsa, it's excellent, and they make an incredible salsa through and through. Please keep this in mind before dining here!

I didn't know what to expect but we decided to try their Pabellon beef bowl and the beef and pork empanadas. The Pabellon bowl came with an arepa on the side. It was our first times having arepa and we enjoyed the saltiness flavor of it. The denseness of the arepa was a new experience for the both of us, it's something that you just have to try for yourself! The bowl goes well with the light, creamy sauce that is brought out with it. The staff are kind and helpful, glad to have been able to support a local business in Charlottesville!
