My dad brought his car here to get a smog and they failed it saying that the catalytic converter was tampered with it didn't have any serial numbers on the catalytic converter. So my dad had to go take his car to a California referee for inspection and they found the number right away it was clearly visible the referee said they don't understand why this shop couldn't see something that was clearly visible end up costing my dad money and time that was not necessary and had to wait at Long line at the DMV to get extensions for the registration apparently for no reason. I'm not sure if they're incompetent or they were just trying to make some money. I don't recommend this shop for the trouble they put my dad through. read more

I took my Subaru to ABBetter Smog after a friend recommended it. The business is no frills but I wasn't looking for a glamorous building, just an honest knowledgeable mechanic to smog check my car at a fair price. I had great service at ABBETTER SMOG. The owner was pleasant, efficient, and the price was very reasonable. This business has been at 1100 N. Golden State, Turlock for a long time and I think he gets most of his business from word of mouth so he must be doing a good job. I recommend it. read more

Been going here for multiple years with a lot of different vehicles. They are always extremely professional and do a great job. Some of the negative reviews are flat-out lies. They don't do any work, only smog checks. They don't mess with wiring harnesses or batteries. If you're looking for a best friend to waste time chatting you up, go somewhere else. I'm neutral about this place. They get the job done. The lady at the front desk could not crack a smile if her life depended on it. I tried to strike up a conversation and she just gave me resting bitch face. The waiting room is cold and in the winter it leaks and has water on the floor. Bring a coat! Yet they get the job done, usually pretty fast, never had a problem and since I only have to do this once every 2 years I will deal with. * I had my 20 year old daughter go in here- first time she has ever taken a car in for a check. The owners wife was again at the desk and she was nasty and horrible to my daughter! How does this place stay in business? My daughter said I've never done this before and the lady said flat out "I'm busy" nothing else. Then my daughter said is there a way I can get it done today? NO. YOU NEED TO COME EARLY Wow, the tone and rudeness of this woman is unbelievable. I will never step in this place again and will tell every person I meet to not go there. Many places in Turlock where they actually are nice, smile, and the place is clean. This is a dump and a rude nasty woman. read more

I have been coming here for years and have always been treated with respect and he is always friendly, helpful and professional. I now bring my parents car here as well and have NEVER had to wait very long (getting there around 7 am when they open helps). I highly recommend them. read more

Don't do it. Too many other choices in turlock. One of those places where you're made to feel like your being done a favor. you know what I'm talking about. Facility is dirty which Is fairly common for auto shops but as stated earlier, too many better choices in turlock to settle. 3 people dealt with were very short in their discussions. I took my diesel here for smog. The young kid who did the smog was the worst person ive seen perform a smog. So disoriented using a stick (through my leather interior), and iphone timer trying to pass a diesel. Of course, he failed it. Said it blew too much smoke. Bull. Took it for a second opinion to free state referee at MJC. Passed no problem. Guy doing the smog there couldnt figure out why ABetter Smog failed it. Too bad for them i will never take any of my vehicles there and will tell everyone i know to stay away. So not only are the people that work there the worst customer service people, apparently they dont know what their doing either. Never go here. read more

I found this place last year via a friend who lives in turlock who brings his car's here, so I thought I'd give it shot. I was in and out in 30 min tops (nascar of smogs) lol $48.00 2002 mustang coupe. Then a few months later I brought my Mitsibushi suv in and 35 min later it passed $54.00 or so. So I came back to bring in my mustang again (i'm selling it) to smog and $50.00 something dollars and 40 min later, I was happy camper!!! (fyi, not all places will smog dual exhaust cars but this place does!!) I went to a place on McHenry Ave next to O'reillys to get smog and they wouldn't even do it because of the dual exhaust:( I'm guessing the two guys from Turlock who gave this place a not so good review were pissed that there cars didn't pass smog. Yes, the guy who does the smogs has a poker face and leaves you wondering "did I pass???" LOL But there fast and reliable. THEY DON'T DO REPAIRS (which I would not recommend bringing a car to.) so they've got NO REASON TO RIP YOU OFF!!! CHRIS from Turlock duh!! they stink and will receive negative 5 stars from me, [really they are that bad] one time I brought my car in for a smog check, and they unwrapped my fuel injector wiring loom, and left my battery cable hanging out next to the radiator fan which got spliced up by the time I made it home. most of the rest of that day I spent fixing what they messed up. bottom line they don't care about all the cars they service [they are kind of car racist too] cheep looking, small, dirty facility. no manners. worst time I ever smogged my car in this town go somewhere Else read more

He'll take your money!!! he will give you a receipt of work he didn't do, yeah that's what happened when I went there this week. DO NOT GO TO THIS GUY! I think you get what you pay for and before hand I knew his prices were higher than other shops around here so I thought I was getting a 'honest' mechanic but he didn't do anything to my vehicle beside driving it into his garage. He left it on for about 20 minutes but didn't do anything to it. Came out with a receipt and honestly, there is no way for me to prove that he didn't do anything... took my money before he handed me my keys... it sucks not being able to do anything...
