I went to Urban Eyes for years and once they closed in the west end I was so very happy I found Abasa Opitical on Davie. The most welcoming helpful service you could ever ask for. The optometrist was so very good and on time and Adam had the best customer service I have experienced in years. read more

Better than 'great' - superb customer service, best optical business I've ever dealt with. Very Customer service oriented, staff are appreciative of their local neighbourhood customers - they went above & beyond my expectations. They have a superior selection of current & vintage style basic & designer frames for Rx glasses plus they offer premium quality sunglasses. Their prices are comparable, if not more reasonable, than other optical businesses I've used. I value my eyesight and strongly support their personal 'in-store' approach over on-line and discount outlets. So sorry they were forced to relocate from1600 block of Davie Street in my neighbour hood but pleased to see they are still relatively close. They know 5heir business; I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing vision correction or just wanting good quality eyewear, including sunglasses. read more

The family that runs this shop are great. Wonderful and helpful. Willing to go above and beyond to help their customers. I had broken my frames and the lenses were too small to fit into a new set of frames. After going to another optometry shop who couldn't help, I was referred here. They weren't able to fit my lenses in a new set of frames either. We discussed just making a new pair of glasses. Due to the type of lenders I required and the fact I am only in town for 2 days, that wouldn't work. I was about to leave the shop thinking that I was doomed to band aided, minimally functional glasses till I got home. But then I asked if they had any frames she could use to replace my broken ear piece with. The owner took on the challenge with gusto. With file and pliers, she gave my frames new earpieces and Void la! I can see again! The owner explained she was taught by her father how to repair, rather than just replace broken glasses. Told me she was trying to pass that knowledge on to her children...which got a little roll of the eyes from her son. read more

As good as it gets in customer service! Outstanding from the moment I entered the store. Smiles, friendly greeting, an obvious willingness to provide the very best experience for their customers. This wonderful family-run business has been in this location on Davie Street for 28 years now. Longevity like that isn't an easy achievement in this world of skyrocketing rents and fickle customers, but Abasa's exceptional service, products and knowledge have obviously stood them in good stead. I hope they prosper for many years to come. When my eyeglasses broke recently I thought about where to go to see if they could be repaired or what my options might be. I live in Kits where there are many optical supply shops, but I remembered my great experience over 20 years ago buying glasses from Abasa. So I took myself downtown for a revisit and I am so glad I did! I decided to replace the old glasses with new ones, and booked an appt. with Dr. Modi, the onsite optometrist. He was friendly and accommodating, like everyone at Abasa, and my eye exam was smooth and stress free. Abasa has a wonderful selection of frames, from very traditional to bright and trendy. I found a pair absolutely perfect for me, and very happily picked up my new specs a week later. And the price was far less than I anticipated, which made this experience even more special and memorable. I am incredibly grateful I made the effort to return to Abasa, where I will continue to go for any eyewear needs. I have already recommended them to family and friends. I truly doubt you could do better anywhere in Vancouver. If you need eyewear, contacts, sunglasses, accessories or an eye exam, Abasa is the place to go! Highly recommended! Thank you to everyone at Abasa for an exceptional experience! You are the best! read more

This optical store is a breath of fresh air. Every two years I get a new pair of glasses. They are always happy to see me and make me feel welcomed and an important member of the downtown Vancouver Community. The service is excellent, warm, friendly and they will always tell you if the glasses you are trying on do NOT suit you. Thank you. read more

I wandered into this store and I Love it! An excellent selection of really fresh interesting frames. Excellent customer service and as a bonus a family run business. When I discovered a small crack in my frame a few months after I bought them, they exchanged the frame for a new one, no questions asked and with a smile on their faces. I'm definitely returning here for any future glasses needs. read more

Went in to have a minor problem repaired. Person in the store was friendly, efficient and completed my repair promptly and at a low cost. I'll definitely return as the selection of eyewear is extensive and attractive. read more

Super friendly and helpful in choosing a style that suited me. I didn't feel rushed and the service was absolutely first class. Loving my new glasses. Side note: They were unable to get me in to see the resident optician, so they recommended another who was also first class. read more

Abasa Optical recently celebrated its 30th birthday (May 15, 2020); and Abasa has remained a community sustaining, neighbourhood treasure. Local Family owned and operated, they offer a personal touch with their professional expertise. Azra helped me pick a perfect pair of frames from a wide selection, which has something for every taste and prescription. Happy 30th birthday, Abasa Optical. Looking forward to "seeing" you in the neighbourhood as I, (ahem!) get older too. read more

I wandered in off of Davie St. to get my eyes re tested and get some contacts and possibly glasses. I got a free eye exam with the knowledge i would purchase contacts. I paid $50 for a contact fitting, but realized while trying to put these weird foreign things in my eyes, i probably should stick to glasses. They had a great sale on so of course i started looking for something. I picked up a pair of Morris glasses for $350. Azra (the owner's daughter) is still helping me find contacts that work. She is super friendly and i would go back there. read more

I bought a great pair of glasses here and was told I am getting a significant discount on the frame. Just before picking up the pair, I found out their sale price is much higher than the retail price I found online. Unfortunately, they weren't willing to match competitor's price :( so I ended up paying almost double. read more

This place stands out to me as one with exceptional customer service. The lady I spoke to was outstanding, I had a simple issue but she was incredibly friendly, polite and did everything she could to help me. It was all about the service, it turned out I had a custom pair of glasses that I had bought off clearly contacts(didn't know they'd be any different than anything else out there) so she couldnt really help me out. But certainly I'd want to return to this place in the future if there's anything else I need read more

Just stopped in to have my frames adjusted -- a quick job that comes at no charge. Though I was not a former customer and mentioned I was only visiting the city, Adam was friendly, attentive and thorough; he a better job tweaking my frames than the last few opticians I've visited (who always seemed to be in a hurry to get it over with). A+ for friendly service! read more

My contact ripped so I googled places that sell contacts on davie street. I left work in hope to run across the street and back within 15min. I called and a lovely aft answered my call :) she was super helpful and confirmed the had my prescription. I walked in to find a lady sitting behind one of the consult tables discussing a personal matter to do with dance classes. I waited and waited at the counter and she didn't acknowledge me for a solid 5min. I left to google the next closest thing when finally I see someone rush into the store to sit behind the counter. The first few seconds of a client entering ur business sets the time for you're experience and mine was really disappointing. read more

I went to Abasa with a pair of frames I wanted prescription lenses for. I had had the frames for about 6 months because the last time I had prescription lenses put in them they distorted my vision. At that time I went back to the first optician and got a refund and the lenses removed. I explained all this to Abasa Optical when I came in and I also expressed that I was nervous about the same thing happening. They told me I could pay them to test my eyes again but financially that was not an option. I decided to have Abasa fit my frames with their lenses and they happily took my money. When I came back a few hours later to pick up my glasses- when I tried them on I immediately could tell that there was a problem again because my vision was still distorted. I told this to the staff person. She then proceeded to check the fit of the frame of the glasses on my head and determined that the frames were not sitting correctly on my nose and could not be adjusted because they were plastic frames. It seemed to me that these glasses were unwearable but she distinctly told me to "give it a couple of days." This sounded like to me that they would refund me my money if the problem persisted but when I returned the next day they outright refused a refund. The staff person I dealt with on the 2nd day suggested to me that I was negligible for bringing another stores frames into Abasa and that I should have figured out that the frames were problematic after the first time I had lenses fitted and they were problematic. Wow. She managed to demoralize me by insinuating that I lacked intelligence for trusting professionals to provide me with the right information and service - because I chose to buy my frames and have my eye tested at different places. She also suggested that I complain to the optometrist or the store I bought the frames from. I tried to rationalize with her that regardless of the outcome of returning to the optometrist and frame store- I was still stuck with a pair of lenses that were not suitable for my vision. Ironically she offered to provide a 2nd pair of lenses free of charge if I had another pair of frames but adamantly refused to refund my money for the first lenses they put in. What I find incomprehensible is that Abasa waited until after they took my money to check the fit of the frames on my face and at that time determined they were unsuitable. If they believe that fitting lenses for frames that are not sold in their store is such a risk - why do they do it and why would they not be more thorough in their examination and determination of those types of customers frames. I visited Abasa twice on a Monday and again on the next day to request my refund and on each visit I dealt with a different staff member so it was extremely difficult and frustrating to have to explain the problem and acquire any sort of consistency. I would not recommend Abasa Optical Lab because I felt that they were extremely dismissive with my concerns and made me feel demoralized about my choices. I suspect that their regular customers have disposable incomes and money to throw away on glasses for aesthetic purposes. If you are the type of customer who has to shop around for the best deal and count on businesses to provide recourse or refund for products that don't satisfy 100% - Do NOT shop at Abasa Optical Lab. read more

Dropped in on the way home recently to see if I could get my sunglasses adjusted,as the frames had expanded and they had started to slip. Adam, who I dealt with, could not have been more helpful. He took the time to make sure that the adjustment would be perfect, by having me try the glasses on a number of times, and each time making another small adjustments to the frame so that at the end they did fit perfectly. I was even complemented on the frames, although I had not purchased them at the store. It was such a good job on the sunglasses that I asked if he could possibly take a look at the fit of my reading glasses, which I had with me. Again Adam spent some time on the adjustment, making sure that the fit was right, and that the frames were not to tight or causing any friction or pressure. He was very friendly and helpful ,explaining the adjusting process, and talked about the different frames materials and lenses etc while I waited. Even though it was obvious I was not in there for any other service or item at the time, I still received excellent customer service. read more
