Dr. Abar is an Ortho Extraordinaire! I started with him in 2004 when I first got my braces which I wore for two full years. Now, I see him once a year to check on my bite and make sure my teeth have not moved back. When I have dental work such as crowns, I can always go back to Hoss (excellent name) and get new night guards if the old ones do not fit properly. Results? Teeth look great, bite feels better. It's really all about them rather than patient care and who knows over charging us for services we can probably get at a better rate else where. Everyone including the Dr is awful! I was trying to transfer my son out before the treatment started. I was told I had to pay for his treatment plans before transferring- services that was never done. I read the other reviews, I see a lot of negatives about price and making money etc. It is a business, they do charge and Insurance does not cover a lot. They got a lot of employees and bills to pay. I did feel a little rushed into getting my son Braces the overall service and accommodation is good to me. The only negative my son had an bracket unglue, and they blamed him but it came off and night I doubt it was stuck properly in the first place. Should not make that big of a deal of it. But overall I like everything about the place they know what they are doing I will take my other kids later on in Life. read more

Do NOT go here. In my opinion Dr. Abar is very unethical. He tells you that you can get a "free" consultation, then if you decide on another Ortodontist end up with a bill for the consultation. I tried talking to him about it, and he became very angry, and made me very uncomfortable. I would be very cautious and get things in writing if working with him. Tension , stress, uncomfortable, too expensive for the value of product and service they provide. They add fees on top of fees, always find something to charge for, it's a rip off. When there are question regarding the process of treatment or why a bracket "broke", they will blame you! They say only something as hard as a rock can brake it, so we ate rocks? Lol. It's ridiculous, because it wasn't broken until the assistant took the wire off! Then they yell loud that if a bracket, band, "anything" is broken it's because of the patient! They don't care if it's a child or an adult they make the patient feel the worse even if it's not their fault! Agree with others that Abar manipulates patients into the treatment, by the staff wheeling in for "free" consultation, but then they charge and you feel pressured into getting the treatment. Yes, as others have said, the threat is no braces off until you pay off balance, and the treatment gets put on "hold" by only changing the rubber bands with no adjustments until you pay. I had to write this review to express my disappointment with the office of Dr Abbar's customer service. My son went in to have his retainers replaced (after losing them). They didn't allow parents. Which was fine, but i didnt like that the doctor came to talk to me outside in front of multiple other families. They also wouldn't allow him to use the restroom. I get that we're in the middle of a pandemic, but really? We literally had to drive 30 minutes home after his appt before he could go. Why open your office if you cant provide basic accomodations to patients? Especially after i paid for two phases of braces, and now an additional retainer. Im also a healthcare provider so I understand the concern. How often are they tested? Im vaccinated and extremely cautious. We just have to trust that none of the staff have COVID. I wish I could give a negative review. This place is a money hungry, selfish, greedy, lazy office staff... shall I go on? We had a consultation for my daughter and this place was PACKED! SOCIAL DISTANCING was non existent. I was so uncomfortable from the moment I walked in the door. It only got worse after meeting with Dr. Abar and then talking with his rude office staff, which by the way, made NO EYE CONTACT with me, like she knew she was doing wrong. They made me pay the full amount due while my daughter was already getting things done in the back without having me know the cost FIRST. I asked to submit a claim to insurance, she very rude said my insurance don't cover anything. After 2 weeks of back and forth with them and my insurance, I was actually only financially responsible for 50%...... Now I'm waiting to be reimbursed by my insurance company because some lazy woman wouldn't check my coverage first! Rude. Obnoxious. GOLD DIGGING. INCONSIDERATE people. Just avoid!!! read more

I'm not sure what SN and Conan O are talking about in their review because that has not been my experience at all. At the time when I got my braces I did not even have insurance and Dr. Abar was very helpful and understanding with my repayment options. They have a very generous repayment plan that I was able to take advantage of which debunks the statement that the two bitter folks made. If he was all about the money he for sure would have stopped me at the door, but he didn't. Instead he worked with me and even provided a discount. Maybe that's something that comes to people with positive attitudes and good spirits! Almost 100% of the time when there are a few people giving bad reviews and the majority of the people give 5 and 4 stars it's something wrong with the person not the establishment. My experience with Dr. Abar's Offices have been above fantastic. I am always excited to go in for an adjustment because the staff welcomes me with a smile and plenty of laughter. There are times even with my busy schedule I find myself hanging around talking with some of the staff because they are cool people. Just all around great people, and most importantly knowledgeable about their craft. I literally have movie star quality teeth!! And I love them, my smile was always great but now it's out of this world! I even got my teeth whitened in the Oakland office. I have those bright whites!!!!!! :) This has to be the most accommodating orthodontist office I have ever heard of or researched because they have offices in 3 locations. I'm a consultant and I travel a lot so I need options for appointment times. I have jumped back and forth from the Pinole office and the Oakland office. Whatever is more convenient for me. I almost scheduled the Danville office once but I had to reschedule because of my travel schedule. Anyway I plan on referring everyone I can to Dr. Abar. I wrote a review a while ago but I'm not sure what happened to it. Regardless, let me take the time to tell you about my experience. To make out easier for the yelp community, I'm going to break this post into sections that I find important. OVERVIEW: I had braces for around 31 months. Dr Abar and his staff was patient, friendly, and flexible with me and my work/school schedule. During that time, I did not feel pressured to do anything except get to my appointments on time and start wearing my rubberbands more often (hehehe)! All of the suggestions and consultations that I had with Dr Abar were in my best interest and helped to make my smile as gorgeous as it is now :-) The only thing that suprised me was that the total cost of the braces does not include your teeth being cleaned. I was under the impression that they would clean/polish your teeth after they take your braces off, but they don't. :-( MONEY: Dr Abar worked with me throughout that time and allowed me to have a no interest payment plan on my braces. His staff also went out of their way to go through all of the health insurance packages from my job in order to determine which insurance company would cover most of the cost of my dental services. ENVIRONMENT: Dr Abar's office is clean, family-friendly, and has entertainment such as a large flat screen tv in the front, magazines, and soft music in the back. Overall, I loved my time with Abar Orthodontics and though I won't miss the poking, proding, lectures about what happens if I don't wear my rubberbands, and the pain (lol), I will miss him and his staff! I got my braces done here and I love how they look afterwards I didn't like them at the beginning but then I seen how people really loved them and this when I first started loving my teeth after braces . I don't recommend this orthodontist. My teeth look nice in the front, but I now have gaps in between my molers that tend to get so much food stuck in them that it's difficult to floss and get it all out. I have multiple areas where my gum line had receded which requires me to have 4-6 numbing shots just to get a standard cleaning. I was getting "adjustments" every month for 2 years and for at least 6 months they weren't adjusting anything and were just replacing bands and putting them in the exact same position. I'm sure they do that to justify the amount of money they charge. I was paying about $7,000 out of pocket and when it came to the time my braces were supposed to be coming out my balance was down to $1,522 and Dr Abar told me that I would have to keep the braces on as long as it took for me to pay off my balance. I don't know what made him think I would blow off the rest of my bill if he had taken the braces off before the balance was clear. I had never missed a payment and had already put so much money into this. So in order to pay my balance off faster I bumped my payments from $200 a month to $500 a month. On the very last payment I owed $522 and they charged that then charged another $500 on the same day and caused my account to be overdrawn. They issued me a check the next day for the $500 they weren't supposed charge, but I still had to go to the bank and straighten everything out and get the overdraft fee refunded. I hate to think that some poor kid would have continue to wear braces that aren't necessary if the parents couldn't pay off the balance within a certain amount of time. I totally agree with everyone who said that Dr Abar really just wants to get your money. I only went here because my dentist referred me to this orthodontist, but I really regret not doing more research beforehand. read more

I do not recommend going here for orthodontic services. They try to take your last penny! I went in for a consultation and was forced to a sign contract that day. I wasn't given an option for second opinion. I went ahead and proceeded with the invisalign treatment. I only decided to have invisalign due to front 1 tooth misalignment. I have completed the invisalign treatment and the misalignment is still present. Dr. Abar told me initially the invisalign would correct; however, now that I have paid over 5k for invisalign he tells me I need braces to fix. This is so wrong! I would have never paid or decided to go with invisalign if I knew that my tooth misalignment would not be corrected. Dr. A bar has poor manners and not personable at all. I wasted 5k for treatment that did not straighten my teeth. I do not ever recommend coming here. STAY AWAY! read more

I have gone to this place for braces and was told many lies and was charged for non sense visits/treatments. I cannot wait until I'm done and I'm going to run the other way.... it has not been the most pleasant experience and I do not recommend this guy to anyone who cares about service and feeling comfortable when going to a dentist. he does a good job overall, but again, it's all about the money. His staff members are not ver polite either... they need to learn phone etiquette (just like Hoss)! If they tell you the your insurance covers something, don't believe it - check for your self before you're stuck with thousands of dollars! the staff is not very efficient and will not call insurance companies to find out coverage, etc... If possible, I would give Dr. Abar and his office staff a negative rating. Not only is the customer service poor, it is evident that Dr. Abar is only concerned about money. Not once, but twice, Dr. Abar ordered dental x-rays fro my son which were not covered by mys insurance. The sad part is that I informed his office that my insurance would only pay for these specific x-rays once a year. Despite that they ordered these x-rays twice in two years and I was not informed until after the x-rays were done and my insurance refused payment. I just received the second bill which is over $400 and is not covered by my insurance. I would not refer anyone to Dr. Abar for any type of service. My daughter, who had braces several years ago (not from Dr. Abar) went in because she lost her retainer and needed a replacement. He tried to convince her that she needed to get braces again, which would have costed thousands of dollars and would not have been covered by my insurance since she had already had braces.
