It's been more than a year since I wrote my original review and I must say, despite some nostalgia for my former dentist (RIP), my family continues to be patients of Dr. Yu. In fact, due to the recent shake up of so many dentists not taking Delta Dental, we moved our kids there too. So now the whole family goes. I basically just go for cleanings... twice a year despite the recommended 3 times.. (the third one would not be covered. Penny-wise and pound foolish, perhaps, but two times in a year has done me well so far.) My only gripe is a minor one. I like continuity and having the same person do my cleanings. I had Tui at first and then it was another one whose name I forget but she did it perhaps twice so I was growing accustomed to her. Last time I went, they had a person who was, per what she told me, a temporary person. She kinda rushed it, with no nice comments or feedback regarding my flossing. About which.. I can't remember if I mentioned it but their previous comments gave me a complex about my flossing. So I switched to that Oral-B charcoal and mint where the floss is black. And it is so satisfying to floss with it and actually see the plaque that is scraped away. It shows up against the black thread of the floss. To be candid, I was waiting for some props on results of the improved flossing and felt a bit deflated when they never came. Oh well... first world problems as they say. Of course, nothing is perfect and the best evidence of my satisfaction level is my continued and expanding business with the doctor. And in any case the front desk staff is always super nice, welcoming, professional and great with kids. Keep it flossin! read more

I've been going to this dental office since 1986. First with Dr. Swanstrom (who was amazing), and now with Dr. Yu who has carried on that same incredible level of care. When I recently needed implants, Dr. Yu went way above and beyond. She coordinated everything with the surgeon and the lab and even spent the whole day of my surgery making sure everything went perfectly. She's incredible! I've been seeing Dr. Yu since 2013, and she's not just a fantastic dentist, she's one of the kindest, most caring people I've ever met. Every time I see her, I'm just so grateful. Dr. Yu- It was great meeting you and how I wished I had chosen you when I first moved over to the East Bay. I came to Dr. Yu after my horrific experience with Gentle Dental. I've increased my stars after having some dental work done and having experienced Dr.Yu's talent. I went in today to have an old crown replaced. It's a two step process that isn't what I would call fun. But Dr.Yu certainly made it quite okay. I'm a hard person to numb but she hung in there and made it happen. Once every thing was good and thick ( how my mouth feels when the drugs take hold) she went to work. It didn't take long to get the old crown off and the tooth prepped for the temporary crown. I didn't realize that the temp was a little high on one side until the numbness started to go away. I made a call to the office since I was already home and an hour later Dr. Yu made everything perfect. She and her assistant checked with me throughout the procedure to make sure I was ok. My husband has had work done by Dr. Yu and he was very happy with every step of the process. I'm very happy with Dr.Yu's expertise and grateful to have a wonderful dentist again. read more

Dr Yu took over my long time dentists office a few years ago.obviously at first i didn't know what to expect, but from the first day she more than met all of my expectations. I have referred her on many occasions to friends and family. My parents also transitioned over as well as both of my kids. She is very good at what she does and is very open to explaining what she's doing and what is best for you. I feel like she really cares about each patient and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Started with great customer service but has gone down hill, especially this year. Never returns calls, won't listen to clients wants, denied work on a cavity, which lead it to become a root canal, doesn't give call backs on updates for meds, and never sends proper info when asked. Few years ago, I told them I want all-in-4.she denied me and cost more money over the years. She was collecting about $10k a year to not provide the services I needed or wanted. This has gone on for 3yrs, and I definitely would not recommend her if you know what you want done. She will convince you to do whatever will gain her more money. Only thing I can say, she does have a gentle touch when working on your teeth, but that's all I can say. Also, it was requested 3 different times for my full, dental report to pass on to my new dentist or to me, and was denied. This was over a course of a year asking for the reports, to only get told they'll send it but didn't. When a follow up call was made, the person on the phone seemed rude and annoyed. I had to get xrays redone due to their lack of communication and follow through. The last contact I had, my temp bridge needed to be glued back in, and they refused unless they received the dental work from my new dentist, which is ridiculous. Called 3 different dentist, willing to help without the paperwork Carolyn Yu wanted. Though, her company can't provide detailed information the client needs or wants to move forward without her services, yet she wants what she can't provide? My time with this dental company has been nothing but frustrating after the 1st yrs. You would think the longer the client is with them, the better they are treated. It is not the case here. I highly do not recommend this dentist. Plz do not contact me, Dr. Carolyn Yu's office. No need to follow up. We've been patient enough with your office this last few years to continue dealing with your incompetency and sucking money from my family. read more

I don't like the sound of the drill so I asked if I could listen to my music as they worked. No one had a problem with this. Best dental office in the Bay!!! Courteous, efficient, and kind. From the front desk to the back office they were so pleasant setting up initial exam over the phone to the follow up treatment sessions. They take their time and explain treatments so that you can easily understand and provide cost estimates as well as referrals, if needed. I was even placed on a waitlist for treatment and Daisy called me every time there was a cancellation, so that I was finally able to get in to start my treatment (due to my work schedule it made it difficult for me to come in most of those days.) They even saw my five-year-old daughter(who was not a current patient) in for a quick visual exam after she woke up with a swollen cheek due to an infected tooth and recommended she be put on antibiotics and see her peds dentist same day.
