It keeps your mind off the poking with sharp metal objects part of the visit. Other than being a cool dude.. I have a helluva reason to love this dentist. A few months ago, I went to my old dentist with a crazy toothache that went up the whole side of my head. I mentioned it was a day after biting on some very hard bread so I thought I might of cracked it and not felt the effects until today- I had no idea? She said she did not see cracks but likley it was factures you can't see and I would need a root canal.. just like that. I was like really.. oh no! After banging on my tooth in which I howled in pain to prove it to me again she said,"Yep Root canal." She wanted me to get this done ASAP. I told her I have to call back. I wanted a second opinion. I went in to see Dr. Miyata who was excellent about fitting me in the next day for an emergency visit. He looked at and hit my tooth too, but he also took a x-ray and saw a fuzziness on his picture that looked like I had a sinus infection. I did not think I did as it was just a toothache that went up to my ear. That looks like a sinus infection, the bread thing might have just made it sensitive too. He gave me antibiotics for my toothache and said if this does not help to come back in and we will see what's happening once this infection goes down. With in days I was better. Yay! No Root Canal! He took the time to evaluate all possibilities before mangling my tooth for no reason. I am grateful. Later that month, Dr. Miyata's office sent me a card welcoming me as a new patient, shoot, I should have sent him a card for saving my tooth! I just went in again for annual cleaning/check up and I have to say I really love coming to a small practice, the staff is so nice and I like the lil bag of cleaning goodies ya get with your cleaning. Really nice service and conveniently located next to the Light Rail.

I've complained to him about various tooth issues and he says, "Well, we could do such-and-such procedure, but you're probably better off just waiting a while to see if the symptom subsides." And he's always correct -- the random ache goes away and I didn't have to pay a cent nor endure a drill. I've had dentists who were like car salesman -- they'd use their medical knowledge to intimidate me into accepting an unnecessary procedure. Many dentists seem really greedy. Dr. Miyata is not like that. He often talks with the assistant about super random stuff while he's working on my teeth, which I find both odd and entertaining.

Five stars for a Dentist? What?…read more I've been a patient of Dr. Opsvig's for almost 10 years. He is absolutely the best dentist I've ever had. His state of the art office in North Bend is worth the quick drive on I-90 (it's actually only 20 minutes from Bellevue). I am extremely dental phobic. Dr. Opsvig goes out of his way to work with me to reduce my fears and is very gentle. He refuses to prescribe treatments unless they are absolutely necessary. If he says you need a procedure, you do. No messing around to pad his income sheet. His staff is friendly, efficient and helpful with working appointments in and around your schedule. So, if you need a new dentist or want to change and don't mind the drive East, give him a try. You won't be sorry.

Put shades on the patient when cleaning so no mystery bits ended up in eye areas. Does everyone do that? No one I've visited in VA does. "You've got glasses." "I don't like mouth debris on my lenses." "I had a dentist that had these shade things to put over them...is that so unusual?" Abella Dental, perhaps you've spoiled me. VA DENTISTS OF THE RICHMOND AREA: I have searched far and wide and have settled on a place that is sub par, at best. Why is it so hard to do the right things like shield eyes, not push un-necessary things, have offices that know how to change insurance info, bill correctly more than once, and not run in and out as quick as you can to move on to the next patient. I'm not saying sit and chat, but damn. More than 30 seconds is not too much to ask. It might be time to change dentists again. Anyone in the Richmond area have any recommendations? WHAT THEY DO WELL…read more The staff are professional and helpful. I've never has any issue getting an appointment in a reasonable mount of time. They are also good at working with insurance providers. The exam rooms are clean and provide ample privacy. (The same is not true for a competitor just down the road) ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT I Seemed to be at the mercy of the dentist on shift whenever I went in. I prefer a little more consistency for the sake of patient continuity. Unfortunately, while the service I received seemed great at the time, I ultimately ended up with 2 failed crowns, and each time was referred to an Endo for a root canal. In both cases, the root canal was halted mid-procedure due to the fact that the tooth was cracked to the bottom of the root in multiple places. The Endo claimed that in both cases the DDS should have seem this in x-ray and never crowned in the first. The only good option from the beginning was to extract and get an implant (or denture). Since this office doesn't perform those services, one can only guess they wanted to get paid for the crown work, costing me the patient thousands of unnecessary dollars and much discomfort. To be fair, the crown did postpone the extraction by several years. SUMMARY If you are just looking for cleanings and basic dentistry at a convenient location that is clean and accommodating, this is a great place. If you require any care of a more serious nature and want to work with someone you can trust, look elsewhere.

Dr…read more Studeny took the time to really listen to my needs and his staff was super knowledgeable and friendly. I am nervous about going to the dentist and felt embarrassed that I hadn't been to one in awhile. They didn't make me feel self conscious at all and didn't rush me. They gave me lots of great options and have such a flexible schedule that I scheduled all the recommended treatment. I didn't feel judged or pressured at all. I can't wait for my next visit with Dr. Studeny. He's an authentic and kind man, and soon I won't be embarrassed to pose for family photos with my new smile (:
