I specifically do not like how they bait you into agreeing to do something you do not set out to do. It's somewhat subtle that you do not notice at first, until you insist on what you want or don't want, and they find a way to make you pay for it. I went for a "complimentary" orthodontic evaluation because they were running a promotion. On my first visit, they coerced me into doing a new patient evaluation, making them my official dentist since I didn't have a dentist at the time. It was quite unsettling but seemed harmless since they managed to convince me to come for a second and third visit to continue the evaluation they apparently still hadn't completed. Dr Vanama somehow managed to convince me to remove all my wisdom teeth which are totally healthy, even though I really didn't want to, telling that it was the only way to fix my open bite. The next day after I paid, I called the office to withdraw from the treatment plan, they didn't answer. Then I dropped a message that wasn't responded to. I finally reached them and they said "they'd already ordered my aligners, they didn't know what it would cost them to withdraw the order and I would be responsible for whatever the cost was". I felt this was extremely unprofessional as my concerns wasn't a priority at all to them, they only cared about the money. Both the attendant and Dr. Vanama were extremely rude about their approach. One would've expected that the doctor be more professional but she was way worse, dropping the call on me and insisting that I paid the "lab fee" of $200 and she made sure she collected the money for a service I did not receive, on a "complimentary consultation". I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND! The next day, the started calling me that the fee was $1800 read more

I could not be more happy with every aspect of this office. I've always had massive anxiety around dentistry. Everyone from the front desk, the hygienist to the doctor herself, make me feel so comfortable, and for the first time ever not afraid. They use technology I've never seen, the chairs even massage your back. I'm beyond grateful I found them and can't recommend this office enough! read more

BEWARE! Dr. Vanama did a total bait and switch on my treatment plan and upgraded me from overlays to crowns with zero explanation. She treated a total of 4 teeth and I ended up needing root canals on 3 of them. Each appointment took forever as she was seeing multiple patients at once. She rushed through everything she did and often got frustrated with me when I needed a break or said the crown was still too high. On two occasions she left me on nitrous for hours. She would often numb me and then spend too much time on other patients and have to numb me all over again. Her negligence and poor work put me at risk and cost me thousands of dollars additional treatment. read more

Where do I even start- I've been going to Dr. V for the past 5-6 yrs. The 1st 2 yrs I had good dental care with a fabulous dental hygienist who is no longer there. Everything went downhill after that. Each time I was there, Dr. V informed me that In needed a crown,OR a re-do cavity and/ or invisalign. I had invisalign and she filed several teeth way too much that food constantly gets stuck there. Crown work: my bite was off and couldn't change it because I finished invisalign work for 1 yr and it would change my entire bite. I started to notice that Dr. V raised her voice significantly to her hygienists and dental assistants- actually she was very rude in front of me. Very unprofessional!!!!! I'm sensitive to that sonar deep cleaning and each time I came I told them to make a note in my chart to NOT use that cleaning method. For my last 4-6 cleanings, I see that sonar tool and say, "there should be a note in my chart that I don't like that tool." Unbelievable!!!!! Today was my last time at Discovery Dental, THANK GOODNESS!!!!!! Again, dental hygienist came at me with that sonar tool. OMG!!!! She scraped tartar of my teeth and said that's it. What the hell, what about polishing my teeth that I paid for? I have never experienced a dental office so incompetent and rude. I give two stars since I don't want to punish the Dr who seemed great but I want to bring attention to possible mistreatment by the hygienist. I told her I was very sensitive on one tooth the sonic cleaning. She then proceeded to target that exact tooth with the tool 3+ times. I said " ouch, stop it" each time. She would then go to a different tooth and then come back and get me again. I finally closed my mouth after the last time and said sternly to "stop it, do not touch that tooth again" luckily I had to leave mid cleaning which probably saved me from a horrible couple hours. Great doctor but I would never let that hygienist touch me again. read more

My first appt for a routine check up and cleaning. Given I was 3 months overdue for my checkup and cleaning, it went great! Friendly attentive staff, thurough, gentle, and very pleasant and positive. Dr. Vanama is personable, organized and thurough. She suggested I address a few issues, which I was not aware of from previous dentist, and advised me on Ivisalign. I have trust issues. With dentists. Being in my late 20's and already having had four root canals (plus two re-treatments!)and an embarrassing amount of fillings throughout my childhood, it makes for one weary, untrusting adult. I've questioned the integrity of dentists I have seen through the years and because of this, I have become very anxious and doubtful when any treatment or procedure is recommended. I've also had dentist who didn't seem to care or believe the tooth pain I've felt. Boo. I found Dr. Vanama through research online. I usually tend to go to the place with tons of positive reviews but even those have failed me so I went with the one who had a small handful of good ones and a bio I liked on the website. I went to Discovery Dental for a cleaning and had Yoshi as my hygienist. She was really personable and friendly. We had a good talk and when she gave suggestions, she explained the reason behind them. (Example: don't use alcohol based mouthwash as it dries out mouth in same way instant hand sanitizer with alcohol dries out hands). I told her my husband uses mouthwash but I'm not a fan on ingredients so use nothing. She recommended just doing a warm salt water rinse in place as she said she had a patient did it every night without ever having seen a dentist during her childhood and had fairly healthy teeth. I love natural suggestions and have began doing this based off her suggestion. Dr. Vanama was nice and recommended my old, huge metal filling be replaced with a crown as it already had a fracture. I was weary but knew I didn't want it to crack and risk losing my tooth all together. *joke inserted here: 'my dentist said I needed a crown and I was like, "right!?" ' I went in for visit 1 of 2 for my crown and had Madison show me the ropes of Netflix and the massage chairs. Being able to watch "The Office" helps make dentist visit feel less long and painful.   I had to leave my night guard with the office for them to send to the lab when making my permanent crown. I was told I'd have it back in 2 days (by Friday) but the lab needed it longer so had to wait longer. I was anxious to get it back as it helps tremendously with my TMJ and office is closed Sunday-Tuesdsay. On Saturday, I called the office and Dr. Vanama gave me her cell phone number and said she would be in office for a short bit on Monday and would follow up with lab to see when they could bring my mouth guard back. She called me Monday afternoon and said they wouldn't have it back until Thursday but that they would have my crown ready so she changed my appointment from two weeks out and fit me in for Friday so I was able to get my mouth guard back and permanent crown even sooner than planned. Staci in the front office is really sweet and has always been helpful. I noticed on my dental EOB I was charged for a fluoride varnish during my cleaning (which I did not have done). When I inquired about it, she said it was no problem and she'd contact my insurance to have them credit my account back. I haven't received an updated EOB since this conversation to know if it has been fixed yet but I can update review once I receive it. So far, I feel I can trust Dr. Vanama and her office. I am always on edge with new dentists so I'm still cautious but for now, hopefully I can continue being a patient at Discovery Dental. read more

The worst customer facing crew ever. My appointment was at 12, didn't get in until 1220,and they tell me they can't do a cleaning until I get a comprehensive check up, when it was exactly at this place I got my cleaning done last year. The crew is not pleasant and then they blame you for wasting their time which is exactly the opposite that happened, huge warning to stay from this this place. People/Staff are super friendly and nice. They have great hours for people who work a 9-5 and need to come on he weekends. I've had bad experiences in the past with other dentists, but this one is the best by far. The facility is clean and inviting and it's convenient to get to. Wow! All I can say is that Discovery Dental is by far the best dental experience I've had in a very long time. The staff was professional and courteous every step of the way! The receptionist was warm and helpful, my check in was a breeze. I informed her I'd prefer to do X-rays after the cleaning, and she was more than happy to accommodate. I tend to be very anxious at the dentist, but the staff went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and relaxed. The chairs are equipped with heat and massage that the patient controls and the staff immediately brought me a blanket to keep warm and a neck pillow for added comfort! Tae-Li was the absolute best hygienist with whom I've ever worked! She was extremely thorough and took exceptional care with my cleaning, all the while checking on my comfort level. She was respectful of my questions and requests, and provided a stellar (and much calmer) experience! read more

While the staff and Dr. were nice and accommodating and the office amenities were nice, I was disappointed by the treatment. I went through a deep cleaning and was put on a very aggressive regiment of antibiotics plus prescription strength mouthwash. The combination gave me thrush for the first time in my life and the antibiotics made me nauseous. When I finally switched dentist, my new hygienist was shocked that I was put on such an aggressive treatment plan. I should note though that Discovery didn't make a fuss when I asked to return the rest of the mouthwash regiment (since it was pretty expensive) for non-use. Also, their ad had promised gift card for referral but it took the person who referred me multiple asks before she was given the gift card. read more

I've had 2 visits at Discovery Dental and they were both great experiences. First time was a cleaning and x-ray and second time was fillings. I'm always very uncomfortable and nervous with dental appointments but the doctor and all the staff there went the extra mile to make me feel more relaxed and at ease. They were all very professional and great at what they do as well. You can watch TV while they're working on your teeth. The facility is very clean and looks like they have state-of-the-art equipment. I'll recommend Discovery Dental to anyone ... in fact my wife will go there and I'm even considering to bring my kids there! read more

With a fantastic staff in a clean, comfortable setting, Discovery Dental has been a good experience. I had a good experience going in to meet the hygienist. Tae Lee is certainly the best! She's patient and always give you regular updates while working on your teeth. I've seen a visible improvement in my oral health. Dr Vanama has been patient with all my concerns and always has alternative suggestions for times when you're unsure of a certain procedure. My only quirk would be that there is always a 10-15 wait time after check-in. I've been here about four times, and I usually check-in 10 minutes before my appointment. This really makes my total wait time from the time I step in to the time a doctor sees me anywhere between 20-30minutes. But the option to see a doctor on Saturdays certainly trumps all. read more

Also, they failed to give an accurate balance on my insurance, so the cost was much higher than anticipated. WARNING DO NOT USE THIS DENTIST! She is a fraud who filled two of my teeth unnecessarily. I went to Discovery Dental last month for the first time to have my teeth cleaned. At that cleaning I was seen by Dr. Vanama. Dr. Maduri Vanama proceeded to try to sell me on a whole lot of dental work including extracting my wisdom teeth that are fully grown in, not impacted, and healthy and that I needed four cavities filled.  This was alarming to me because I had x-rays taken at my previous dental office a month or two prior and they did not show any cavities. However, I chose to trust Dr. Vanama and made an appointment to have the cavities filled. I went to the appointment to have the cavities filled and it was the absolute worst appointment I have ever had. First, the dental assistant couldn't properly place the dental dam which caused me to have a lot of anxiety. I have had several dental dams before and have never experienced anxiety from one. I asked to reschedule my appointment but was told I would have to pay a cancelation fee and Dr. Vanama said she could fill the teeth without a dental dam (I learned later that this should also have been a BIG red flag). She proceeded with the fillings, and it was excruciating. The dental assistant had poked around my mouth to see if I was fully numb and I told her several times that I wasn't but nothing was done about this. After the filling, I could feel very rough and jagged edges around my mouth and I could not bit down properly. After several attempts, Dr. Vanama was unable to correct either of these issues and said she was uncomfortable doing anything else to correct the problems. I left feeling very uncomfortable. However, as I left the receptionist said that if I gave them a 5-star review right then and there, I would be given a $5 gift card. I declined and now believe that is why they have so many 5-star reviews. People are bribed to review them before they find out what a fraud Dr. Vanama is. When I went home, I could see the chunks of bonding material she had left in my mouth and realized that I could no longer floss between any molars on the right side of my upper or lower jaw.  I was so concerned with what she had done, the following Tuesday, November 6th, I went to my previous dental office. They reviewed the x-rays Dr. Vanama did and could not find any indication that I had any cavities. On top of that, Dr. Vanama had bonded together several of my molars (which is why I couldn't floss) and the access bonding material that was so jagged and sharp had cut my tongue and gums in several places. The dentist said it had been several years since he had seen such a poorly done filling and was absolutely shocked that she even did them in the first place. I will not ever be returning to this dentist. Additionally, I have filed a grievance with my insurance company against Dr. Vanama and filed a complaint against her license with the DOL and the Washington State Dental Association. If you have gone to her practice, I implore you to have another dentist review your original x-rays and the work she has done. If you are considering making an appointment, stop. Find another dentist. read more

Probably the worst dental cleaning experience I've had. When you walk in, it is a rather nice setting with a front desk gal who is very nice and had a great, friendly greeting. They have a nice but small lobby with a TV, bottled water and coffee. The dental assistant was even super sweet... Loved her! But the dentist comes in...seems slightly condescending to her assistant, which I did not care for. Right off...poor management/customer service skills on the DMDs behalf. She gave me the most painful cleaning experience EVER and kept asking if I wanted to be numbed up (which is usually a charge). My teeth are in no way that bad. I've had a few cavities and I'm not the best at flossing but wtf!! As she is basically scaling my teeth, she points out EVERYTHING she can to upcharge/upsell...my amalgam fillings need to be replaced...this/that filling looks no good. I also have these two molars that are my miracle teeth...they basically have no roots and they are always mesmerized by my xrays. She couldn't believe they are still in tact in my mouth and just kept repeating how she did not want to touch them. No other dentist has ever acted like that with them. She then starts providing me with options and is ready to get a sinus lift scheduled this year... Its already mid December!! Who would start such a long process and costly one at that with a dentist they just met! Besides, this wasn't new for me and I told her right off the bat I knew what I needed, but I wanted to wait. She just kept pushing me to think about it! Finally... The torture in my mouth and desperate pathmaking to my pockets end. The assistant finishes up and I am them lead into a "consulting" office where the dentist recaps all of the "treatment plans" she has for me and then asks when do I want to schedule them. I flat out turn her down and I'm ready to run! Sad to say for this new, convenient dentist.....I will not be returning! read more

First visit was fine, although she really pushed me to have 4 fillings, a deep clean, and to start having 3 cleanings a year. My whole life I've never been told by any dentist I took that bad of care of my teeth. Deep cleaning was so painful I needed vicodin, and was sensitive for 3 weeks. Then had 2 fillings because they were slightly bothering me. Just went back in after not being able to eat anything on that side of my mouth without shooting pain. She said there was nothing she could do and there might be permanent damage requiring a root canal to fix. This was a simple filling that any dentist should have been able to do. Mind you, this all happened within a 2 month time frame. Now my teeth are worse than ever. read more

Dr Vanama is a great advocate for her patient. She's very understanding and will listen to her patients needs. Everybody in the office is very nice and accommodating. The office is clean and they have free water and coffee in the waiting area. The staff is unprofessional and unresponsive. They are very quick when it comes to setting you up for an appointment for the next treatment but when it comes to questions asking for clarification especially regarding out-of-patient costs, it takes them days before they respond. I've had good experience with Discovery Dental for all my dental work this year. From the initial visit to following deep cleaning, cavity filling, and removal of wisdom teeth. The office is clean and comfortable with massage chairs and television (wish had more channels though) and the receptionist is excellent at communicating for scheduling. Even when there are conflicts they work to insure commitment to the schedule. I'm not sure what the previous low rating was expecting as cleaning generally is an unpleasant experience since they're in there digging for gold. It's up to the person to let them know if more numbing is required. I had asked for more of it and I don't believe I was charged extra (or my insurance covered it). They were very good at arranging the necessary procedures to fall inline with my insurance to assure that I'd pay as little as possible out of pocket. My spouse has certainly noticed a difference in my oral health and whiter teeth. I can say that's a win. I also received a free whiting kit as a new patient and it works great! read more

Had wonderful experience there i am never going to forget in a good meaning. We have spent a lot of time there discussing my plan and Dr Vanama was extremely patient and ready to listen all my concerns and .... yes, suggestions ( and i am not easy patient;-) ). Staff is very friendly, office is new and they have new feature - you can have light massage on your chair/ that distracts you a little ;-) Dr Vanama is very gentle while performing whatever needs to be performed in your mouth. I have had a lot of job done with my teeth - few root channels retreatments, few infections, crown changes, implants... I could and would recommend this dentistry to my friends. My family and I have had a great experience so far with this dentist. I have had a hard time finding a dentist that I am pleased with since moving here. My daughter has needed some cosmetic work done and the dentist worked with me and explained my options. They are super flexible with my schedule. I have even been late and they still have taken us in. I am not fond of going to dentists and they are very pleasant and accommodating. The office is clean and quiet. The dentist and hygienist are very caring and diligent with their cleanings and exams. Love the receptionist, she is very friendly and inviting. Walks through all paperwork and is very thorough.
