Absolutely love this place. We were recommended here by my husband's coworker for authentic Nepalese food after we came back from a 3 week trek in Nepal. And heck yeah the food definitely reminds me of Nepal. My husband and I are being pescatarian this month so everything we ordered was a veggie dish. Veggie momo dumplings were sooooo good. We ate so many momos in Nepal to the point where my husband ended up buying an "I love Momo" shirt there. The veggie momos here were pan fried with a lot of great flavor. And the orange sauce is real good and has a little kick to it. I really like that everyplace we've ever had momos (including in Nepal) had their own way of making momos and the sauce so they would always taste a little different. This is definitely one of the best ones we've had. We also had the baingan bharta (eggplant) and the vegetarian dal bhat thali platter. Both were super good. The thali has a small bowl of lentils, saag paneer, yogurt, stewed veggies, naan and basmati rice. We absolutely loved the saag paneer, may be the best we've ever had. It was a little creamy and the bite size chunks of paneer was just enough and the perfect size where it's not overwhelmingly cheesy. And the service was so friendly and attentive all around. Been coming to this place for 7+ years. I have never been so disappointed! They opened at 5pm for dinner this Sunday. I called at 4:55pm to place our order for pickup. I was told it would take 20 minutes. We arrived at 5:30 and was told they are still working on our order and it should be ready in 10 minutes. I waited and waited. By 6pm I grew very angry. I just don't understand why it took them 1 hour and 15 minutes for our order to be ready. Especially if I called before opening. The food has declined so much after the new owner took over. Our shrimp tikka masala was watery and very salty. Chicken Vindaloo was flavorless. Onion naan was undercooked. We couldn't even eat it. We spend around $70. What a waste. This place use to be sooo good and now it is one of the worst restaurant and food we have had. After being a loyal customer for over 7 years we will not be coming back! read more

Yummy yum yum :) We each had the thali platter. The Nepalese lamb curry it came with was delicious. The lamb was tender, and the spices were flavorful and well balanced. The lentil soup was yummy. I appreciate that there is the option to have brown rice. Chai was good, and server offered refills. Only nit pick is that the thali platter was missing the raita. But on the upside, it came with an unexpected papadum. Garlic naan was good. Service was super friendly - attentive without being intrusive. Easy laidback atmosphere. We found the space very homely, almost as of you're actually eating at a friend's aangan (patio). The food is home cooked, no bells and whistles and great taste. Loved the jhol momo- delicious vegan filling, the vegetarian thali- with paneer, dal, vegetables- all reminiscent of home. Would definitely revisit this place. read more

There was a time that I really liked the food of this place. However I ordered from them after a long time I was so so disappointed with the food quality. The yogurt in the chaat item tasted fowl ... It's not often that I give reviews, but this place is so amazing for so many reasons I felt the need to give one. first of all the staff are super nice and inviting. They seem so happy every time I come in to pick up my food and overall make my experience very enjoyable. Second the food is absolutely amazing. I've had a lot of Indian food but this place is by far is the best I've ever tried. The Pani Puri is so good. The saag paneer is delicious and the butter chicken is absolutely amazing. If you're in the mood for a thali plate, this is a really great spot. I had the veggie curry thali, and my husband had the lamb thali. He said the lamb was very tender. The veggie curry had a good mix of spices. The dal soup was very good, and nice and thick, sometimes it seems too thin to me. The greens were tasty, and also the cold potato salad(forget the name) had a good spicy flavor. You even get dessert with this thali, a gulab jamin, which are those delectable little honey balls. This one came with a little bit of yogurt sauce, and it was the perfect ending to a delicious meal. I can also vouch for the hot chai-it was delicious as well, creamy and tasting of cardamom, and it comes unsweetened, so you can add sugar to your liking. We also got an order of garlic naan, which was so great to rip up and wrap around all the yummy things on the thali plate. This had a good, fresh flavor, some garlic naan tastes like it's been made with a big jar of garlic in oil, and that was not the case here. Portions were large enough that we were able to take some home for a second meal. The woman who served us was so sweet and attentive. Also, this restaurant is nice inside, with an exposed brick wall and nice artwork. It was a great treat! read more

In terms of Nepali and Indian cuisine, this is the East Bay's gem. They have the most flavorful Vindaloos and Tikka Masalas around and the staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly. I had the pleasure of walking in during the Nepali New Year, when they had a special menu. I enjoyed some tremendous Pork Belly appetizers. But the real standout, maybe the standout of the entire Bay Area food scene as far as I'm concerned, is the Chicken Momo Soup. Perfectly tender dumplings swimming in a thick and flavorful red broth with a taste that is both wonderfully complex and subtly comforting. Welcome to "Our Courtyard"---- mostly Northern style food offered here...there is a small section of South Indian items though, like dosas. They closed at 9pm. We made it in at 8:35pm. One can park anywhere in the adjacent parking lot which has BevMo. We got a cast iron tandoori chicken (4 pieces) order and a bhindi masala (okra) dish. Simple dinner accompanied by roti---plain, unbuttered, plus tandoori buttered. Flavors were great....very juicy chicken thighs and drumsticks. Bhindi was not too spicy and held great flavor! Very yummy meal. I prefer the wheat atta a bit darker, n the tandoor char to be more present. Outside of being extremely particular about the carbs, the food was wonderful. PS thoroughly enjoyed the many canvassed Nepali painting along one wall. Enchanting. Flannel tablecloths unique and soft, with American red, white, and blues. read more

There were a variety of hits and misses here. Some things were fantastic while others fell short. We received a table immediately upon arrival. Score. Service wasn't friendly whatsoever but I had no problem with the pace of the experience. We ordered, received our food, got our to-go boxes, and our check. No frills. No smiles. Most importantly, no delays. I'm ok with that. The food. Here's where I became really confused. The garlic naan was fantastic. You know at other places, you're flipping around the naan trying to find the fluffy pillow part while avoiding the burnt areas. Well, this naan was all entirely fluffy! Yum. Chicken tikka masala: The creamy texture was perfect but the sauce was incredibly sweet. Great portion of chicken. Saag paneer: Probably the worst I have ever had. There was no seasoning whatsoever. It was almost inedible but then I mixed it with the tikka masala sauce. Helped...but still extremely bland. Okra: The best I've ever had. The seasoning was spot on and it was cooked perfectly. I'd like to come back again and try this place out again. For now, with all the hits and misses...I think it deserves a solid 3 stars. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first came to this restaurant. While I've had (and enjoyed) Indian food before, I have never tried Nepali cuisine. When I first walked in, I was warmly welcomed in by my server Akash. He recommended that I sit outside in the patio area as it was recently updated. The outside area was beautiful and had a great view of the sky as well. I told Akash that I had not tried Nepali food before and asked for his recommendations. He recommended 3 of his personal favorites, 1) Chicken Momo 2) Chicken Korma 3) Khasi Ko Masu The recommended food was excellent; my absolute favorite was the Chicken Momo, a delicious dumpling dish with desi-infused spices and flavor. While I've had Korma at other establishments, the creamy, rich decadence of the sauce and Korma truly make the dish stand out. Really nice staff and everything comes out piping hot. Garlic cheese naan isn't on the menu, but you can order it since they do both separately :) Highly recommend it as a combo! The thali is a great deal - you get a half piece of plain naan, a small salad, a small side of some veggie item (we got spinach paneer), daal, and then whatever entree you choose. We tried the goat, which we heard was great and it was super flavorful. I'd like to try the fish next time :) Tikka masala sauce is always a favorite, got it with the paneer/veggie and chicken as well. I liked the veggie version a lot actually! The tandoori chicken I found a little dry for some reason. Also got the c-momo because it's so unique and the pics looked so good. This place is delicious! We ordered the Samosa Chana appetizer and for the main dish I ordered the Chicken Platter. Which had curry chicken, lentils, saag with paneer, and raita. Included in that was naan, papad, and basmati rice. The food was so fragrant with Indian spices. Each had their own flavor profile. The platter was perfect for me and my family who also ordered a similar dish yet different meat. It was just enough to sample each dish to help decide for a late return. The Samosa were large, however had average taste and were not flaky as described in the menu. I do wish that the main dishes came with a side of naan or rice rather than a separate order, a predicted extra expense. I would recommend this restaurant. The service and hospitality was good. One thing about the restaurant that was uncomfortable was the tables were placed too close to each other. So close that when we pulled out our chairs it touched the another table. read more

This is one of my regulars for take out Indian/Nepalese food. I have ordered from here dozens of times. And it's consistently good, for years. My go tos are the vegetarian momos (steamed dumplings), saag paneer (they are on the creamier side), chili chicken (more sweet and sour than spicy), and eggplant curries (both Nepalese (Aloo bhenta) and Indian (baigan bharta)). Note that the dishes don't come with rice--it needs to be ordered separately. (I also like Everest Kitchen up Solano a couple blocks, but Aangan has more options). read more

This place is nothing short of extraordinary!! I came to the Bay Area to visit some friends and we were really craving some Indian food. Luckily this place was near us and we decided to give it a shot. Words can not describe the experience we had here. I have Indian food very often and have experienced disappointment a number of times when eating out. Usually the food is expensive, incredibly oily, just doesn't taste good, or the service is terrible. However at Aangan, I felt the exact opposite. We were greeted by a very kind lady as soon as we entered and she kept helping our table throughout. She was very polite and made us feel like guests at her own place, rather than just customers. The food was incredible with many different flavors of Nepal, and the portioning was great as well! We ordered the Chili Chicken and Momos, and Mango Lassi which absolutely blew us away! WOW. The price was amazing, especially compared to the other Indian restaurants throughout the Bay Area. It is very difficult to find a restaurant that's just right. I am speechless about the food here, because oh my goodness it is really good here! My family was getting out from swim practice (late evening) and we were searching for excellent food available late. We found Aangan and are very glad we did. We tried three kinds of naan, curries, momo, and pakora and really enjoyed them all. And the menu has many options so we can try new things next time. Has slid down another notch under new owners. This was our favorite place, but no longer. C Momo, chicken: fried, very different than usual steamed. Huge; bready wrappers, tossed with sweet-sour sauce. Eight massive dumplings would serve 8 people as a substantial starter. If you're broke it would be a cheap meal for 2 nights. Saag Paneer: bears no resemblance to previous version under former owner Bishnu. Now just like every other steam-table/buffet type dish. Salmon tandoori: overcooked but generous portion. Didn't taste much if any seasoning on the fish. Lamb Boti Kebab: asked for rare, got well-done. But the onions caramelized nicely on the superheated platter. Rice Pulau: Some mixed frozen vegetables, along with lightly fried cashew pieces. Good starch with the curries, not remarkable but unoffensive. Khashi Ko Bhutuwa, dry curried goat: Waitress brought us Khashi Ko Masu, the "wet" goat curry. We told her this was not the dish we wanted, and about ten minutes later the Ko Bhutuwa showed up. Sadly, it's gotten worse even from last month's visit. Extremely tough meat and way oversalted. Took leftovers home, rinsed it off, braised it for 90 min and it was STILL tough altho at least edible. Write this off forever as a no-go. We were very disappointed with our dinner. Aangan has dropped a full level in quality and execution under the new owners. It's off our list for now. read more

Meh! I've had better, had dinner with a friend he chose this place. I ordered tandoori shrimp, that came on a hot platter with a good number of shrimp but a smattering or skimpy threads of shredded cabbage for 20.00 Bucks!! I can buy a whole bag of Argentinian shrimp for 26.00 that will last me for two weeks. The skillet medium did not come with naan or rice of which I had to dole out another 3.00 dollars for rice. I've been to Indian restaurants around the country where you get a platter of food that includes rices. And naan. The service seemed mediocre, it seemed to take forever for us to receive our food, during which we should been offered naan and sauce while we waited. My friend ordered noodles he said he wasn't impressed either when we got into the car. I will say I liked the music. The waitress was okay, she was polite, but didn't seem attentive. Color me Unimpressed. I could've made better food at home. Also, the place wasn't as cozy as a lot of Indian restaurants I've visited around the country, it had a more low key cafeteria take out vibe. read more
