Just not that good. We ordered the chicken chow mein and the chicken tikka masala. The chicken chow mein was super greasy but overall okay. A bit on the pricey side for mostly noodles, but hey, that's life some times. The real ripoff is the chicken tikka masala. Only 5 chuncks of chicken amounting to a total of 1/4lb of chicken in 12oz of sauce. The sauce was really good.. so that's a saving grace. But really, for a dinner entree ($16 worth) it really leaves you hungry. We'll probably use the remaining bucket of sauce to make a second meal tomorrow... so if that's your plan when you order dinner... then this is a good find? To us its a letdown because we pretty much just shared the chow mein and will have to revisit the chicken tikka masala another night. The plain Naan was okay. A little tough and greasy, but okay. Called to make a reservation for 14 people for outside with a days notice. They were able to accommodate us on a very spacious patio, and we felt so cozy with the space heaters. The staff was also super friendly and helpful with the ordering process with such a large party. We ordered so many dishes and every single one was delicious. Naans were outstanding the potato one was so unique! Absolutely get the lamb tikka masala. Wish I took more pictures of the food. I don't live in Berkeley any more but many in my party still do, and they will be frequenting often! Highly recommend. read more

I finally got the opportunity to check this restaurant out! I came by here once before to find out that the place is closed between 2:00pm and 5:00pm. Be sure to note this because it is not stated on their website or on their door. This has become one of my regular lunch spots. I started writing a review when it first opened in 2011. Since then, I have frequented this spot, as it is one of the many awesome choices that I have for lunch, because of the location of my office near Solano Avenue. We are so fortunate! We have the most incredible choices of tastes and flavors to choose from. Many people I know have never tried Indian, Himalayan, or Nepalese cuisine. I am lucky to have close friends that are Indian, Nepalese, and Tibetan, and have been introduced to many of their customs and foods for many years. I love their food! If you are not familiar, this is a great place to give it a try! I have eaten here many times and everything I have ever tried has been amazing! You must try their chicken and vegetable monos! They are delicious! I'm craving some right now! I prefer the steamed monos, but they offer fried ones as well. They are these large dumplings with this wonderful tasty filling and this homemade dipping sauce. I can taste it now! The Khasi Ko Bhutuwa Set was incredibly tender and changed my mind about eating goat! Yes! Goat! A Pan fried bone-in goat served with flattened rice, and Aloo Ko Achar (Nepali potato salad) Don't knock it until you try it! Another favorite is the Daal Bhaat Thali! You can choose your meat of choice and it is served with basmati rice, naan, dal, a vegetarian curry, papad, raita, achar, and a side salad. Plenty of food and so many different pop of flavors and textures that had me screaming with delight! I could go on and on about several other dishes that I have had here, but I would be writing for days! I am now a huge fan of Nepalese food! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in a heartbeat! I had originally taken off a star for the numerous times I went to the restaurant and they were closed bc they didn't show that they were closed between lunch and dinner, but this has changed and it does now show their hours of operation. My friends and I ate there last night. The back patio was open and although a little chilly, we're still cautious. I would have asked for a heater but one of my friends thought it was unnecessary. The butter chicken was divine. I asked for it spicy and it wasn't that spicy to me but you could feel a bit of heat. The aloo naan proved to be a favorite because although I ordered one, my friends ate quite a bit of it while still having their own garlic and plain to eat. I think I converted them. Delicious momo (dumplings), the best value for Nepali/Indian food in the area, and an adorable patio area. Aangan is my go-to place for momo in the East Bay. I've gotten both the plain steamed momo and the Jhol momo (both chicken and vegan), and I love it every time. The momo themselves are beautifully seasoned and pair perfectly with the savory achaar or house soup. That being said, I have loved everything I have ordered, even if I didn't know what it was. The thali is a nice way to get a taste of a few dishes at once, and the server was patient enough to walk me through how to actually eat it (thank you). This place is run by a family, and that is definitely felt in how they treat their customers. While, admittedly, to-go orders can be a little slow, it is well worth the wait. If dining in, they have a private, cozy patio in the back. read more

Oh my, I think I have a new contender for my favorite Nepalese eatery, and it's over in Albany. That isn't such a huge geographic stretch as there are a couple of very good Nepalese spots close by on Solano Avenue, Everest Kitchen (review: http://bit.ly/2C3ZfAc) and Himalayan Tandoori & Curry House (review: http://bit.ly/2ElV7Ok). However, I have to give the trophy to Aangan for what may be the best momos in the Bay Area. Yep, I said it. Dude, it's a momo throwdown. I ordered the $8.99 Veggie Momos, and they were so completely tender (photo: http://bit.ly/2EoMPVV). I have no idea what seasonal vegetables they used nor what made up their "home made" sauce, but... The combination was really so satisfying that I popped those eight puppies with very little effort. For my main, I went for the $10.99 Baingan Bharta, a hearty portion of fresh eggplant baked with onions, peas, and tomatoes and turned into a savory purée (photo: http://bit.ly/2G8XYvV). Delivery review. I love getting Indian food for delivery: it's creamy, it's spicy, it's carby and oh so comforting. The last few orders at various spots have been less than Yelp worthy but this recent experience at Aangan was delicious; the food is fresh and flavorful. Their spinach naan may be my fave naan in the East Bay. We opted for 2 vegetable dishes that both rang in at about $11 with no rice included. They were flavorful but pretty skimpy on veggies and mostly delicious sauce. At that price, I feel rice should have been included, or just charge $12 and include rice and call it a day. Overall, naan was fantastic and food is extremely fresh and flavorful but I probably would order only 1 veggie dish again, the veggie masala instead of the korma for the mere fact that there wasn't a ton of substance. On the other hand, the $4 naan order came with 2 huge pieces of fluffy naan which I felt was a fair price point. Overall, I'm impressed enough to say I'll give this spot another try and explore other dishes (like the momos) and order that spinach naan again! read more

Fancied a change and remembered we hadn't been to Aangan since the lockdown so ordered takeout on Friday - and Saturday as it turns out. The East Bay is luckier than San Francisco in terms of good curry houses, and back in the days of dining out this was a bustling place. It was a bit sad to see the dining area cordoned off but the food was very good indeed. We went for a mild chicken korma and the goat curry medium spice, an order of chicken momos, and an onion naan. Got a 20 minute time for pickup, you can park directly in front of the place short term, and the order was there promptly when we arrived. There's plenty of lobby space, lots of hand sanitizer and it's clear they're taking hygiene seriously. The host checked our order and discovered the momo sauce was missing. Am very glad she did, that stuff is amazing. The momos themselves were superb - well filled with nice spice and a soft but not floppy shell, although oddly (and literally) there were nine of them. But the sauce is something else, some tang and spice, with a slow warmth. Always love bone-in goat and this was a good one. Quite spicy, but with a lot of meat and a flavourful rich sauce - going for the spicy order would take a brave tongue.. The chicken was OK, but when you ask for mild that's what you get. The naan was interesting - not as crispy as somewhere like Cafe Raj's - more doughy and breadlike. My other half raved about it but I like a bit of crisp, but still perfectly nice. Portion size for the main course was good, and there was enough rice. We were sated with leftovers to spare, enough for the next night's meal if we did some veggies on the side to supplement. But when it came to it we were lazy, and both craved those momos and sauce again. Rather than cook we ordered more of them, veggie pakora, and the spinach naan. They were as good the second time, that chicken filling really works and the sauce was still amazing. The veggie pakora should more properly be described as onion pakora, because that's what they are - no other vegetables in there. still perfectly good and the sauce was nice. We're a bit momoed out at the moment but when the moment comes again we'll pick up an order. Still don't understand the nine portions thing however, when they're that good and alcohol is involved it could kick off a serious argument over who gets the last one. read more

Their eggplant Baingan bharta is fantastic but their veggie korma is the best i have ever had so thick and rich and flavorful their chicken momos are the way we like it with a thick hearty dough their naan came u out undercooked unfortunately too thick like a pizza crust and tasted like raw flour as it was still pale white on one side so we had to send it back but service was excellent prices are fantastic too! -Covid-19 Review- Ordered take out food from this restaurant after a friend recommended this place to us. You honestly can't go wrong with this place especially with the food. Here is what we ordered: Samosa Chana :: 2 deliciously stuffed samosas with green peas covered with chana, chutney and onions. These samosas were pretty big so it was great because had 3 people and it was enough to feed all of us. (4.5/5) Fish Curry :: This dish is definitely tasty and light! I loved the sauce wasn't heavy that by the time I finished all the fish and even added sauce into my rice, I didn't feel that "stuffed" feeling. Also might I add, the fish was cooked to perfection. I just wish that they had more fish than the sauce. (4/5) Chicken Tandoori :: This tasted similar to the other Indian restaurants I have tried. I would say that the only upside to this dish was that it had more chicken than expected and I was able to have a lot of leftovers from this dish. (4/4) Naan :: They had a variety of naans which was great! The cheese naan was pretty good; however, I do prefer the naans where you can taste the melted cheese. The food is excellent, the inside was warm and inviting, and the service is excellent! Debu was very nice and made me feel at home. It was a rainy Saturday and I decided to stop in to try Nepalese food. The restaurant is spacious and staff is courteous. I ordered chicken momo, lamb biryani, and spicy okra. My food arrived after only a short wait. The chicken momo was very similar to Chinese steamed dumplings. I'm not surprised because Nepalese food has both Indian and Chinese influence. I was a bit disappointed by the lamb biryani dish. Let's just say I've had way better. My favorite was the spicy okra. It was very flavorful and tasty. Overall, I had an okay meal here. Would I come back? Probably not. I mean I'm glad that I tried Nepalese food for did first time but I wasn't particularly impressed by this restaurant. read more

This is one of my "go-to" spots in El Cerrito/Albany. They know to put in my order for the Sev Batata Puri when I talk in the door. (I salivate just thinking about it.) My daughter loves the chicken, tikka masala and the mango lassi. We've been coming here for years. They are very consistent, friendly, great atmosphere, delicious food. This joint elevates tandoori to an art form. Tender, juicy and flavorful. Butter chicken is on the sweeter and tomato-ey side, still fantastic. Original naan tastes better than the garlic naan (which by the way is no slouch). Garlic naan is properly done, you will not feel like chewing on raw garlic. Chili momo is a must have. Sweet, spicy, savory with a crisp shell enclosing the juicy meat inside. Perfect texture. Some dishes like tandoori chicken and momo come with side veges, which are perfectly cooked, attesting to the chef's finesse with the heat. Can't say much about authenticity (never been to nepal), but sure tastes awesome. read more
