The other week I started experiencing a 'bump' while switching gears, and my first thought was: "Oh…read moreplease... not my transmission." I took it in to Mr. Transmission in North Vancouver for an inspection, largely because the better business bureau has them listed with an 'A+' rating. Their mechanics did a 50 minute inspection, then called me and asked me to swing by the shop because they needed to 'talk'. Hanging up the phone I wondered: "How expensive is this going to be?" But when I arrived at the shop, I was told that there was nothing wrong with my transmission, and that my engine might just be running a little bit fast. The mechanic actually took several minutes to explain why everything was looking good, and why I should continue to drive it for several thousand more kilometers before even thinking about a minor servicing. Oh, and no charge for the inspection... Not the conversation I was expecting... If you're like me and you're not overly knowledgeable about car maintenance, then you know that it's easy to sometimes get taken advantage of by unscrupulous people in the automotive repair industry and get billed for services that you may not actually need. That's why it's so refreshing when you find a local business like Mr. Transmission. Definitely a 5 star experience.

The work was performed under an extended warranty, yet they damaged parts and expected me to find and purchase replacements out of pocket to fix their mistakes. I drove under 1000km during the 7 months it was in and out of the shop, finally giving up after coming back the 10th time and taking the car home with a visible transmission pan leak that they had continuously failed to correct. After two years of barely driving the vehicle, the transmission again showed symptoms of failure, with another shop's trans specialist finding several bolts in the transmission (forward band servo cover and the valve body bolts) that were only hand tightened and eventually backed out, causing total failure and loss of all drive gears. If you care about your vehicle and want honest trustworthy work done, I could not possibly recommend this shop at all. Their negligence ended up costing me thousands to rebuild it again. Extremely disappointing from a shop that touts customer satisfaction and an outstanding reputation

Four months ago I took my VW Jetta to Burt's Automotive Transmission to have my clutch repaired. Despite the high cost of over $2100, they seemed to have done a decent job, that was until the clutch they replaced broke four months after being repaired. My car was towed to Burt's where the manager George, who previously worked on my car, informed me that he would get to my vehicle when he was able to find the time. He called me back 7 days later to tell me that the clutch they had replaced only 4 months ago was burnt out and destroyed and that it was not covered by warranty. Now I am 44 years old and have been driving manual transmission vehicles for the better part of my adult life, and I know without any shadow of a doubt that a brand new clutch does not burn out and break apart after four months. To suggest otherwise is absurd, especially after driving the car for over two years before having the clutch replaced originally. George, Burt, and the rest of you scammers, I will get to the bottom of this and this is not the last time you will be hearing from me!
