That's nothing against Weissach, but I found James at Scan to be much better to deal with. Over the years they took very good care of my Porsche, and were always straightforward with what did and didn't need to be done, always offering the most cost effective long- and short-term options, even when that meant less business for their shop. They are certainly very knowledgeable about Porsches, and in my opinion they are the best shop in the city for this marque. I recently lost my Porsche due to an accident, and needed to find a replacement. The car had recently changed roles from a weekend fun vehicle to a daily driver. I was looking primarily at used Porsches and BMWs, and James was a huge wealth of knowledge in providing advice on what to watch out for with these older German performance cars. After several phone and email conversations, he recommended that a new VW GTI may be the best fun-to-drive option for my daily driver needs. I followed his advice and am very happy with my decision. I know this particular anecdote has nothing to do with repair & maintenance, but I just wanted to highlight Scan's excellent service for returning customers. I just find James and his crew to be very trustworthy, and they have made me a lifelong Scan customer as long as I own a German vehicle.

The job was completed on time and under the estimated budget. All parts and repairs were thoroughly explained to me upon pickup of the vehicle. Their shop area is impeccably clean, an indicator of the way in which they operate their business. Yes, their hourly labour rate is not the cheapest in town, but these guys get done in 2-3 hours what shops charging lesser rates typically take 5-6 hours to do. Don't make the same mistake I did of using the cheaper guy just down the street from here who claims to specialize in "fine and performance automobiles" and cost me an entire engine in my AMG Mercedes, a close call as it failed at freeway speeds, and several thousands of dollars in ensuing legal bills.

They were going to charge me for a new converter. I was devastated since the price was already going to be over $600 based on what they told me and that was a surprise as well. When they told me it was going to be $600, I told them to quit working on it since it was just loud. They said they were too far into the job to stop and I am on disability from being in an accident and can't afford much right now. After I left, I headed about a 4 hour drive away in which the engine light came on and I lost the ability to increase speed. It was "bank 1 sensor 1". The 02 sensor. I took the car back to them, and they said they would only charge me for the part and no labor. They also said that it wasn't possible for the work they did to have caused the new issue. They quoted me $200 for the part. I went to the pick and pull, got the part and was going to do it myself but the bolt was seized. I spoke to my trusted mechanic that was just too far for me to take my car to in the first place, and he told me that they should have removed the 02 sensor before applying any heat and that it most certainly could burn out the sensor and just for the simple fact that it was seized on there meant they hadn't removed it before applying heat. It was not giving any codes before they worked on it. When I went in for them to replace the 02 sensor with the one I had pulled, they tried to charge me $145 for labor because I brought my own part in. They were adamant that they couldn't have possibly caused the issue and I should be more grateful for the work they did on my car earlier to help me out, even though I felt pushed into the work in the first place, as if I had no choice. When I explained what my mechanic said how it was possible, the owner got in my face, pointing his finger at me and raised his voice at me and told me to take my car and leave. I took the car to another mechanic shop, and they said they would charge me for 30 minutes labor and not up-charge for bringing my own part which would be less than $50 and this new shop had nothing to do with the issue.

Most recently my daughter was told by the GM dealership that her tranny would need to be replaced at about $4200. I brought it to Nevco and it was nothing more than a broken pin. When my tow truck pulled up at 6:05 (they close at 6:00) they stayed behind to talk to me about what happened and were genuinely interested about the problem and getting to know the situation. The next day they provided a free diagnostic to be sure what was wrong and were very informative when they called to tell me the problem. When they diagnosed the problem (an almost destroyed timing belt) they ordered and replaced it the same day so that I was able to pick it up in less than 24 hours after I dropped it off. My car works perfectly now and I can be assured that the rest of my car is fine due to their thorough job. Pricing was as fair as it gets and more than reasonable for the job. Overall this was the best experience I have ever had with a mechanics shop and they took great care of my car. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
