I made an appointment for an alignment and they refused to even look at my car after I told them it has OEM factory rear air suspension. They could have at least put it on the alignment rack and checked it. The owner is a very rude old man that said "we don't do air ride" thinking I have some aftermarket suspension. They used to have great techs that worked there and they all left because they don't treat their employees well. AAA member here and very dissatisfied. read more

The people are friendly and courteous. When it comes to prices, they are definitely fair. I've noticed they charge half the price for certain services dealers charge - like oil changes. They also don't "grind" your rotors to make them fit better after charging enormous fees. This is a soundly trustworthy place to get your car repaired. read more

Our Audi Q5 check engine light came on and we decided to take it into AAA based on a neighbor's recommendation. We dropped it off at 1pm on a Tuesday and was told they would run the diagnostics that afternoon and get back us. We then were told numerous times over the next six days that they were working on the thermostat, water pump, this and that and it would ready soon. Then it wasn't. Then they needed to order a part and after a full day of having the new part determined it was the wrong part. In on Tuesday at 1pm, out on the following Monday at 5pm with this excuse and that excuse. Dave, the manager, did apologize but for us, we'll go back to Gear Head in Glen Ellyn. Let me start by saying Dave was a pleasure to work with. We all know when our cars break down it's frustrating and adds another level of stress to our lives. Sometimes we have a tendency to take that frustration out on innocent people. Dave was super friendly and he was in constant communication. You can really tell he's good at his job. He walked me through everything that was wrong with my car and the steps it would take to fix it. He thought he was delivering me bad news when he told me how much it was going to cost to fix it. I have been a regular customer of this car care company for a year now, and long time valued AAA member, and finally reached the point of no return, all because of an auto CSR named Dave. His lack of training, and inability to effectively communicate and service and support their customers is woefully lacking. Plus the attitude leaves a lot to be desired. This is not indicative of the whole operation, as Doug, the techs and others are a good representation of a quality outfit. I don't need to get into specifics, but I would strongly warn and encourage potential customers, or existing ones, to adjust their expectations, which I am not willing to do. As I told him, it's their loss, not mine ! In this day and age, attitude is altitude, and service is KING, especially given the significant costs and fallout's of not providing top shelf service. This individual spoiled it for the rest, and I hope that they work on retooling their approach to how to deal with people, ie. not robotic, and with a heavy degree of sensitivity and customer focus. I can only hope that others will benefit from this heads up about what you could possibly receive..aka.. LET THE BUYER BEWARE, and blessed are they who expect NOTHING, for they shall not be disappointed !!. read more

We had our car breakdown on North Avenue and Bloomington Rd. My wife was driving and it was not an enjoyable experience. I spoke with Dave (there are 2 of them, but this is the one who also has the name "James.") I have never been to this location, and if we lived closer they would be my "go to." This place is a ripoff. They are dishonest. They charged me over $2200 to fix my car which was overheating( adding parts already replaced etc) and 2 weeks later the same issue came back and charged another $235 when they gave me a 3 year warranty . The issue is still the same! had it towed there last week because It's overheating again and now they want another $2700 to check/repair another part. I want my money back. They still have not fixed the issue. They are con-men. Do not go there!!! read more

This team always does a terrific job with all my cars over the years and I really support their entire team. They always run a safety check and are very reasonable with parts and labor and have always been amenable to fitting me in a pinch when I didn't have an advanced appt. Recently I went to them as Jiffy lube did a number in my car, and they helped performant safety check and oil change to make certain all was ok with my car. I have bad lucks with this repair shop at this time. I have a 2010 Toyota Rav4 in January 2023 and I needed this AAA repair shop to replace my radiator hose. After they had done with the new one, the radiator hose somehow started leaking under the hose they just replaced it in front of the engine nearby the radiator. I brought my car back to this shop and have them take a look at what they had done, they told me that the car's alternator belt is bad again and because the water pump is bad (an alternator and the belt they replaced with a new alternator in August 2022). That's why the cooling fluid is leaking out. I agreed to pay the cost of $600.00. After the work done today, 3/18/2023 with a new belt and a new water pump. I took my car home and found out the radiator cooling fluid is still leaking at the same spot as before. I looked at it closely why the engine is still running and found out the leaking is from the radiator hose at the same spot because they didn't tighten enough the radiator hose. Now I paid $600.00 for the water pump service cost for nothing. read more

I went in on October 2, 2021 at 8:30 am for new brakes. Was told that I didn't need new brakes but needed the rotors sanded down. A valve leak was discovered, and AAA offered to replace them. I picked up my car at 4:30 PM that day, drove 0.4 miles down the street to Trader Joe's. Did my shopping, but when I came back out the car would not start. Call AAA, they sent out two trucks, neither driver could restart the car. Car was Towed back to the shop. AAA kept the car for two weeks trying to fix it, then shipped it off to another shop for a week, then finally had it towed to a authorized Mercedes dealership. Through it all, Dave the maintenance supervisor arranged for Uber's to and from work daily. I was responsible for securing rental cars upfront, and they reimbursed me. Not an ideal situation, because all of my financial resources and transportation was not accessible. finally on December 15th 2021, I get a phone call at 6:00 PM that my car is repaired and ready for pick up! This has been the most unbearable fiasco in car repairs that I have ever endured. Will I use AAA auto care plus again? It is hard to say. They did their very best to be consoling and supportive, but in the thick of it, it was very depressing. The current supply chain problem played a huge role in getting parts, but in the end I do question AAA's capabilities. Up until this point, I've never had any problems with their service on my other cars. I hope this is the end of the saga.... read more

If you have a vehicle with modified suspension with after market parts make sure you explain to the service advisor and the tech exactly how you want the car handled IN DETAIL. I brought in my 2013 sti in for an alignment after doing a suspension over haul on it. Replaced the sway bars and end links, rear lower control arms, rear toe arms, front outer tie rods and ball joints and adjustable coilover suspension. I brought the car here under the recommendation of a friend thinking I was going to be in good hands. Unfortunately the tech I asked for was not the tech that did my alignment. But the tech did speak with me prior to doing the alignment to get an idea of what after market suspension parts were on the car and what the car was used for ie daily driving or track use. I told him mostly daily driving we went over what parts on the car and I took off. A few hours later I received a call saying that the car was finished. I went to go pick the car up, I asked for the spec sheet and we went over the results and current alignment set up. When I got the car home I decided to adjust the dampeners of the front struts and to adjust the ride height in the rear of the vehicle. Upon inspection of the front struts I noticed that the top hats have been damaged by what appears to be the use of a pry bar to adjust camber on the vehicle the rear toe arms were also damaged due to the tech using probably channel locks to adjust rear toe damaging the anodized finish on them and scratching them up. Structurally the parts still work as they should but considering that these are brand new struts that cost $1500 and new toe arms. All the parts installed are brand new. I was foolish not to pop the hood and look right away and bring up the issue while I was still there. I was excited to be able to drive the car and since this was a recommended shop I trusted their quality of work. I called back to speak with a service advisor and express my disappointment with the work performed and was notified that they would discuss it with the tech but as far as compensation for the damage goes that's not an option. So now I have to flip a bill for $400 to buy new top hats for my new coilovers and new rear toe arms to replace the new ones that are all scuffed up. Not to mention take my time to take everything off the car and fix and replace what was damaged and put everything back on the car and then go get it realigned. This is a two star review because even though everyone I interacted with was pleasant and professional I can't overlook damaged parts when you entrust a shop with your vehicle. If you make a mistake own up to it and make it right with the customer and if you don't know what you're doing when working on a vehicle that has modified after market suspension parts then don't accept to take the job. Say sorry we don't work on modified vehicles that's not our cup of tea. read more

My car developed an alignment issue where the rear end was wandering every time I hit a large bump and my rear tires developed a large amount of wear. Obviously I needed an alignment but my car is lowered and I am very picky about where I take my car for service. A friend referred me to Ken @ AAA Wheaton Car Care Plus and I couldn't be more happy! Their alignment rack is built into the ground so there wasn't any problems with lowered cars. They used a laser alignment rack and gave me a printout of the before and after alignment specs. They even made sure I test drove the car first to make sure it drove straight. Great price! Highly recommended! For those of you with modified cars: my car is not only lowered, but I have aftermarket suspension components and requested non-OEM spec alignment settings. They were extremely well adept at doing this and are also fellow car enthusiasts! On a side note: I do recommend you make an appointment in advance, as they are also a car maintenance shop and have everyone going there for service. read more

My family and I have been members of AAA for over 10 years. I absolutely love the services and amenities they provide, however, I would never advise people to take their car into a AAA brick-and-mortar. Went to the Wheaton location for a free oil change (with coupon) - oil was changed 2000 miles before I was due (due at 119k) - the technician wrote down that I should get my next oil change at 112k miles (I bought the car with 116k - so that was mistake number 1) About a week later the car died - no engine lights, no overheating, no smoke, no noise - nothing at all. So naturally I towed it to AAA - to bring it in for a diagnosis. Took them a few hours, but their conclusion was the car was driven without oil - how could that be if they changed the oil under a month ago? There were no leaks, the car was not burning oil, etc... AAA offered to install a new engine for 5000$ They did not apologize, did not take a single ounce of responsibility - basically they said the engine could have burnt the oil off or lost it in any number of ways. I find this a little ridiculous.They did not even proceed with a further diagnosis to see exactly what components may need to be replaced (bearings, etc) - if they had at least found something wrong I could work on fixing it, rather than just a drop in engine replacement. Insane. TERRIBLE customer service. I expect shady dealings from small run down stores, not glistening, international respected companies. Go to your local mechanic - AAA does not care about you. I was having difficulty starting my hybrid vehicle. My dealer said I needed a new 12V battery, but quoted an exorbitant price. So I drove into AAA Wheaton Car Care Plus on a busy Saturday morning. Though I didn't have an appointment, Dave squeezed me into the schedule, and in less than 1 hour they got my car into the shop, verified that my old battery was shot, and installed a new one. The waiting area was clean, the employees were pleasant, and the price was very reasonable. With my AAA member discount, the total price of battery, installation, & tax was within a couple of dollars of what I found at walmart.com. Seniors were treated to a free winter car inspection in Wheaton at the fire station on Saturday. The service team from AAA volunteered their time to assist a large crowd of seniors and inspect their cars and fill and check the tires. The staff was very professional, friendly and kind to the seniors. I would NOT recommend this location for any type of work or service. Do not have custom work done here, they will not respect you or your car. If you want to take a look at any work done, they will quietly charge a $300 shop fee. If you have a nice car these kids will drive it and thrash it as if it was their own. I found gravel, mud, and blown coolant from their joyride under car when I got it home. I reviewed my dashcam, they had unplugged it, or I would have taken their asses to court. We've only had good experiences with this AAA up to this point, however recently they butchered a new windshield install which resulted in having to go to a variety of auto body mechanics and paying way too much money to have it fixed. Dave was not only professional but courteous and personal. He took care of both my cars, switching snow tires to summer tires and then fixed the drivers door handle such that it looks like it was never broken and then fixed. He and his crew were prompt. I left my 2015 Prius Tuesday mid morning and that afternoon drove my 01 Camry down to have the door handle fixed and drove the Prius home that day. On Thursday, my wife again drove me down to AAA and I picked up the Camry. As with the Prius, it was contact-less having each time given him my credit card number over the phone ( they do not keep credit card numbers on file but destroy them once inputted ) before I went to pick up the car. I moved out to the burbs from the city 6 years ago...being female and all, I refuse to take my car to just any ol' car repair place in fear they will rip me off so I have been in no hurry to find a car repair place, I take my car to my repair shop in the city. Sometimes that is just not possible, like ... yesterday. I'm driving to work, and long story short the alternator on my car decides to go out. Of course, on a COLD morning. I pull over on a side street and call AAA road side assistance. If you do not have AAA, it's worth the money.... GET IT!!! So they told me they could tow me 5 miles to a repair shop and named this place, and it would be $4 per mile over 5 miles and I was NOT paying that to bring my car to the city. I got it towed to this place. The guys were were very friendly, they drove me to work, gave me a break down on the repairs, and was finished a few hours later. They do all kinds of repairs except for paint and glass. I think I may have found my new repair shop in the future... close to home, close to work, and the service was good all around. read more
