Conversely, a captive agent (e.g. Allstate, Am-Fam, State Farm) needs to fit every client into one of their policies (from a limited selection). I've asked for new quotes but I get a lot of "others are coming back higher" or "we're still waiting on another quote" and this year I got ignored completely while my phone calls never got returned. However my cancellation email was responded to in a timely manner. I went to another broker: over 40% off this year's renewal rate (felt so cheap we even added 10% coverage but we were under covered before). The only explanation I can come up with is they aren't into brokering condo insurance (anymore?) and they didn't care whether I stayed with them or paid an obscene rate.
