I had a very frustrating experience working with Ben as my accountant…read more I was not clearly informed that missing the October tax deadline would result in significant penalties, which left me facing an unexpected fine of over $7,000. In my experience, important deadlines and consequences were not communicated upfront, despite me relying on him for guidance. There was also an error on my 2024 tax return that led to a $300 IRS bill, which I provided to him when he prepared my 2025 taxes. Unfortunately, that issue was not addressed and has since gone into collections. Communication has been a major issue throughout. Emails often take three to four weeks for a response, and phone calls are rarely returned. I've also followed up multiple times regarding an email he said he would send to the IRS, but it was never completed despite repeated confirmation that it would be handled. Additionally, I was placed on an automatic IRS withdrawal plan that I did not knowingly authorize, and when I asked for clarification, I was told to look it up myself online rather than receiving assistance or resolution. Overall, I did not feel supported or properly informed, and the lack of responsiveness made an already stressful situation much worse. Based on my experience, I would not recommend his services

I was pleasantly surprised to find that they use a secure digital file system so that I could upload files ahead of time. Very helpful! On the day of my appointment, John was able to knock out my mom's taxes in an hour or less. Thankfully her taxes are pretty straightforward, but the federal and state returns were e-filed and everything processed in a couple weeks. That was great! I'm almost considering having Lee Mandel & Associates do my own taxes next year! Money and time well spent here.

When my partner reached him about needing help with a late 1099 filing, he declined to help and invited him to return to our prior accountant. When asked if he could provide explanation as to why, he replied (paraphrasing) "No, I really can't". I was appalled and left 3 voice messaged which were never returned. And had to email 5 different times to get very basic answers so I could transfer my business to another accountant. As I write this, I never did receive an explanation for the way we were suddenly being treated after 20 years. But Dan (who had his insurance with my wife's ins agy) did find time to try to pull his insurance to another agent in the midst of it all, having still never found the time to ever reach out to me directly.
