Though at times I may not like the process, the dmv process that is, or their enormous fees, but having the kind people at thus branch in Merced assuages my financial grief by their excellent customer service. The only way to re-register a vehicle. As long as it is something you can do in the AAA office, opposed to the yucky DMV, this is the way to go. Called CHP Atwater, CA, and others listed on NHTSA to inspect and assist with install of child car seat in my vehicle. CSAA was the only facility that readily scheduled me an appointment for Wednesday. Their only day of the week they provide this free service. Pulled into their parking bay and took care of child seat inspection right away. They taught me how to install. Shoulder harness is pulled all out then in a few inches to hear click click sound confirming belt is in lock mode. So when belt is snaked through car seat and locked into latch opposite side then slowly release belt webbing until it is locked tight while you use your knee to sit on seat. Jiggle middle of car seat and should have no play exceeding 1 inch in either direction. read more

being a long time member, I called the office to inquire about their DMV services regarding a vehicle sale. I was told they would be able to assist me with filing and processing the DMV forms and assess any fees as needed. I arrived at the office, waiting over a half hour for the DMV desk to assist me. the only thing they did was hand me copies of the forms. i asked to fill them out there and was told I had to take them to dmv, I could have gotten the forms at dmv or printed them off myself, they did nothing really to assist me. when i told them their phone operator said they would help process the forms, the counter person just looked at me blankly and no sorry, i fell i was misled, or lied too by people who clearly do not understand their job, a waste of time from people who couldnt care less. read more

I have had to do a few DMV services here at the Merced AAA because the regular DMV has been closed due to COVID-19. So basically I tried to transfer a car on Non-Opp. I was told by a DMV rep (and also I've done this transfer before) that you don't need a smog. The lady's (I never got any of their names, but it's an Asian & white lady) both told me that I have to smog the car. And when I told them I have done this transfer before and I also talked to DMV and they said I can do it. Their response was " well it won't let me do it". I ended up smogging the car anyways and completed the transfer.... fast forward a few weeks later I wanted to just pay the tags on my Non-Opp car and both of them said "they can't do it for some reason". Don't get me wrong the lady's are super nice, but they need additional training to do the DMV services, because they haven't been able to do several transactions for me that I've been able to do at other AAA/DMV offices. read more

Had the front license plate stolen from my car and was dreading having to go to DMV to spend at least half of my day in that zoo. Went I got online to inquire about what I would need, I was reminded that I may be able to handle the transaction at the AAA office. I was not prepared to get my remaining plate off, so I did have to go in twice, but the wait was minimal and the customer service person, Martha, was very friendly, professional and efficient. It makes the annual fee for AAA membership worth it for this purpose alone.....let alone a couple of times locking myself out of my car over the last 2 decades. Up until about a year ago I have had only good things to say. Something has changed. I have used battery service many times at the residence in a populated city many times at all hours of the day. I needed battery changed because there batteries are becoming junk and not lasting. I was told I could only have battery service from 8 to 5. When I waited for the technician the next day he said that was a lie. He goes out at all hours for this in our area. Now my wife's 2 year old aaa battery literally exploded when she tried to start her car. Aaa says they do not do replacements if their batteries explode. Now when I opened the hood to see battery acid all over my 4 year old daughter almost touched it. She was in the car taking her to school. But now they will not stand by their crap batteries when they explode. Do not even know yet if there is further damage to the vehicle. It is at the shop. read more
