My 07' Subaru Impreza was on the verge of death and I went to Brian at AA motorworks to do a head gasket change and inspect the car for any other issues. Since I bought the car used, I knew there would be a few issues but I like the car enough where I didn't mind spending the time and money to fix them. There were a few issues that we worked on addressing over the years aside from the head gasket, such as replacing the coil overs (the previous owner had cut the springs), replacing the power steering rack and axles and getting the fluids change, etc. It's been some time since the head gasket has been replaced and my Subaru is running so much better and I've had no more major issues. I still go in every now and then for fluid and oil changes. From time to time I also ask him to do some work on my 91' MR2. Brian's weekday flexibility has been a lifesaver given my hectic schedule. I hired Adam Aquino (AA Motorworks) to perform a simple replacement of a transmission and torque converter. Adam quoted me $1,000 for the job, and estimated one or two days to complete the job. A week later, Adam said that Suncoast Transmissions shipped the wrong transmission, and that they were sending a replacement immediately. This was very frustrating, because he knew I was relying on my truck for my two weddings at Huntington Lake, and Black Rock City, Nevada. Nevertheless, I bought a trailer, and continued on with my plans, towing all my stuff with a subaru... I returned home 2 weeks later, with no transmission to be found, and Adam telling me he didn't want to finish the job. Eventually, the transmission arrived, and several days later he installed it. It still didn't work, what a surprise... Adam claimed the PCM was bad. I waited several more weeks for a new PCM ($850), which was eventually installed. I finally got my truck back 45 days after I dropped it off, and he tried to charge me $2450 for his incompetent "work". I negotiated and paid him $1,850 (all the money I had) and he said he wasn't warrantying anything, and then I had to beg for a receipt. If that wasn't bad enough, Adam informed me during this conversation that he changed my order when he ordered the replacement transmission, to a 2200 RPM stall torque converter, and installed THAT instead. My truck drove terribly! That Torque converter is meant for drag racing, not my heavy work truck and towing. It cost me about $1,600 to get the correct torque converter put in a few months later when I could finally afford it. Additionally, when I got my truck back with the rebuilt PCM, all my dash lights were on. Brake light, ABS light, Airbag light, Check engine light... Somehow, while working on my truck, Adam fried ALL the computers, and tried to blame the fact that the first transmission wouldn't work on the transmission company. So, before you consider hiring AA MotorWorks to do any repairs for you, do some research, shop around, question Adam about his training and certifications. Personally, I wouldn't even trust him to change my oil, put in a battery, or replace the light bulbs on any of my vehicles. It's simply amazing that such an incompetent man can hold himself out to be a "mechanic". Adam should be sweeping the floors of a business, not owning one. Buyer Beware! read more

I recently bought a new car that needed some love and I wanted to go to a really reputable/well-known place that stood behind their work, after much digging around & lots of advice I went to Edge Motorworks. They took my car in at first but later told me they felt like they didn't have the right background/expertise in Subuaru (they mainly work with BMW's) to work on a car with such customization. They recommended their old employee who they said was an expert in Subaru and overall a great mechanic to get especially tough jobs. This was true from beginning to end, Adam quickly identified a multitude of things wrong with the car that several previous mechanics didn't address or notice. He was incredibly helpful with my car and also with my girlfriends car (Audi allroad), while he was fixing my car he also let me bring in my girlfriends car which he spent time looking at for free / diagnosing it (most mechanics charge at least $100 for diagnostics), after all that he advised the best course of action for her (which was to sell it). Proving again that he is a professional that cares more about the customer than making a quick buck. Adam gave me a lower price than other mechanics I called to compare and did a bunch of extra work for free! Overall he is a really pleasant guy to deal with, he is open, reasonable, professional and works fast. I only had to wait a day or so and that is only for the parts we had to order to get there. He is a seasoned mechanic who is a new entrepreneur, but from my experience in dealing with him, Adam is in it for the long haul. He is building a strong business focused on customers who are sure to return for absolutely fair prices, high quality work and a pleasant customer experience. Customer service: 5/5 I was really happy with the service I received from Adam. I had called around and Adams price was more reasonable than some other local shops. Before I got an appointment with him, I could tell he knew exactly what he was doing. I never touched the electronic side of things, just because I didn't want to risk it and rather have a professional do it. Speed and courteous service are really important, and he utilized both. Went into Adam to have a few things looked over on my car after a transmission swap. Had a weird rotating noise in the rear end and also my reverse lock out was not working at the time. Chose Adam as he was one of the closer ones to me, I've known him in the subaru community for a while so I said why not. Well, end result = +1 from me. Shout out to Adam and crew for working on my 2005 WRX wagon! His shop was recommended by a member/friend in the Subaru community and I was SO glad he recommended AA! After getting an oil change at the dealership, I noticed that there was a consistent oil burn under the hood so I brought it back to the dealership. I originally thought it was oil that spilled during the oil change that was burning but it was smoking up a lot. The dealer told me it was a head gasket (which every Subaru owner dreads). I went to another Subaru shop (Subaru master tech that opened his own shop). Paid him to check out the car and he told me the same...the dreaded head gasket. Then my friend comes to the rescue and told me to bring my car to Adam. He took one quick glance and knew what it was. It was a different gasket/plug that was leaking. Most importantly, it wasnt the head gasket (which wouldve cost a pretty penny). During the same time, my radiator decided to crack. I told Adam specifically what I wanted (Koyorad with Grimmspeed hoses) and bam! Done. Car drove excellent after the fix with no more oil burn! After the first trip to Adam, I brought the car in for the 90k service. Once again, great work and the car drove like its brand spanking new! Most recent trip was for an oil change and once again, perfect service. I officially found the shop to work on my Subaru WRX wagon for all its needs. He works on stock and modded Subarus and I would HIGHLY recommend him to work on your Subaru, or any other cars or trucks. Seriously, when the dealer and a master tech told me it's a head gasket and Adam proved them wrong, it shows how much he knows about Subarus. I drove across the Bay Area just to get my car inspected by his shop, and it is worth every mile and penny. A little background: I currently have a 2002 WRX that has been experiencing a lean condition (P0171) for about 6 months. I've read and replaced everything I could that pertained to this code, but still could not find the issue! I even asked other mechanics for advice but they kept steering me towards the wrong direction, leaving me frustrated and jipped. After having enough and having to leave for college on the same day, I came across Adam. He was so helpful in diagnosing the problem! You gain my trust and you'll gain my loyalty. I came here after researching mechanics that were familiar with Subarus; more specifically STIs. After going to what i thought was a reputable tuner( name withheld....for now), I was getting a lot of boost creep and it was recommended that i do a compression/leakdown test after my dyno results were extremely poor. I was also throwing a CEL due to the Boost Creep. Messaged Adam on Yelp and got a quick response to come in a gave me an estimate on the test. When I arrived Adam started my STI, took one look and said I don't need the test. Basically my car is way too new to need that and I pretty much got a bad tune. I also explained that this tuner sent me an invoice saying to fix my car all I'd need to do was shell out $1300 more bucks!( also charging me again for a retune) Adam said my car is fine, i don't need those parts and recommended the tuner i originally wanted to go to in the first place. Adam installed some new NGK One Step Colder spark plugs i brought in as well. Distance was the biggest factor in not going to the recommended tuner. Thanks Adam for your honesty.
