We recently bought an older home in Tucker, GA, with a long, steep concrete driveway that was all to pieces. we did a web search, read reviews of A1 and called for an estimate. Jimmy came out within a couple of hours, listened to what we wanted, made some suggestions, and then wrote an estimate that was way less than we had anticipated. We agreed to the price that day, and Jimmy lined us up for demolition and install 4 days later. His crew showed up at 7 am and were finished at 2:30 pm. The guys were all wonderful and did a superb job exceeding our expectations. the very next morning another crew showed up, washed the street to clear off any residual dust and removed all the pouring forms. our new driveway is perfect, and the price was just as the estimate said. we are thrilled with the results. read more

We paid almost $30,000 for concrete work by A-1 including a new driveway and parking pads. Unfortunately, the work was sloppy and left incomplete, and despite MANY communications with Jeff (salesman) and Bud (calls himself the manager) I've been ignored and the issues have gone unresolved after MONTHS. I'm contacting my lawyer now and really wish we hadn't paid tens of thousands of dollars in full before we were satisfied as promised. read more

I needed to get asphalt driveway ripped up and replaced. It seemed like everyone in the Tucker/Northlake area uses these guys. I had a friend who used them and said their quote was the lowest he found. My experience was the same. They came out, measured everything and sent me a quote. On the day they did it, they came out and ripped everything up (40+ feet of asphalt), laid forms, poured and were gone by 5pm. We couldn't park on it for 5 days but on day 3, they came out and took the 2x4s they used for the form and cleaned up some stuff. Overall, they were great. I've never heard anything bad about them and so far I've been happy (except for the fact that concrete is really, really expensive). read more

Driveway Replacement - Resultant Hazardous Condition, Price Gouging, Utter Lack of Integrity Complaint #1 - Fall Hazard: Driveway replacement began early morning 10/8/20, nearing completion by late afternoon. A rolling curve edge was created a full 4" above an existing very small walkway next to the house. The height disparity between the rolling curve edge of the driveway, not the driveway height itself, and the existing small walkway is a trip hazard. In fact, on 11/9/20 a visitor tripped on the rolling curve. I have since painted the curve to draw attention to its height and lessen the possibility of injury to a visitor. Complaint #2 - Price Gouging: As I saw the aforementioned fall hazard just prior to work completion on 10/8/20, I asked Caesar (who appeared to be in charge of 3 other workers) to remedy the dangerous situation. He said there was sufficient cement remaining, and he would charge me $400. I objected to the $400. I objected to the $400 but finally agreed to $250 since the workers were preparing to leave at the time and I felt pressured to make a decision immediately. Unfortunately I did not contact the A-1 salesperson/Phil until later. After they left, I was unhappy about what had transpired. I realized I should have called A-1 at the time. I couldn't imagine that A-1 would be pleased with Caesar's behavior which reflected poorly on A-1. When I was able to speak to A-1 General Manager Bud, he said some customers choose to tip the workers; further, Caesar had been told not to ask a customer for money again. I told Bud the $250 was not a tip. To my knowledge no other action was taken. I certainly wasn't reimbursed ($250) for a measure that should have been included in the $5,800 I paid A-1 and which, in fact, did not remedy the problem. Complaint #3 - Lack of Integrity: I spent four months trying to achieve a repair by A-1 to the hazardous structure. My email, phone and text requests were answered slowly if at all. Rainy weather intervened at times. A-1 promised to schedule my repair and asked that I provide my availability. Although I provided my schedule numerous times, A-1 did not notify me of a scheduled repair date or, if a date was provided, A-1 did not show up on the appointed date and never advised me that they would not be coming. Finally, Phil came to my home to view the area in question and promised Bud would respond the next day with a suggested solution. Eight days later on April 7, Phil responded, "After speaking with buddy showing him pictures and talking with you and seeing the driveway there is no calls for repair the driveway is structurally fine and that rolling curve is not considered a trip hazard thank you". And yet, I had already notified A-1 that a visitor to my home had, in fact, tripped over the rolling curve. Desired Remedy (Denied by A-1) - Repair/replace/lower rolling curve: We desire that a remedy be effected to remove this hazardous condition. A refund of $250 would also be appropriate. read more

I wish I could rate them on actual work but in fact all I can rate them on is complete lack of communication and terrible business practices. I called and had to leave a message. Called again a few days later. Two days after than some random person calls telling me they're forwarding my message to an "estimator" and I should get a call back. 3 weeks later I still haven't got a call from an estimator or anyone. Every week they run an ad in the Dunwoody paper but can't seem to return phone calls from people responding to their ad. Seems like a giant waste of money and customers time. read more

I am a professional in the Tucker area. I have been recommending A-1 Driveway for the last12 years to any and all of my customers who have needed concrete work of any kind. I've watched them lay concrete all over. I needed an apron replacement and another pad laid. They came out, gave me a competitive price and we signed on for the job. They came out and in 7 hours were done. I needed an additive that would allow me to use the driveway the next day as I have a business that can't stop using the driveway. Jeff Wirth organized our project very well and was responsive to most issues. The driveway proceeded on-schedule and, on the driveway/concrete portion of the contract, Jeff provided excellent oversight every step of the way. However, despite excellent weather, the brick apron which followed was frustratingly slow (over 4 days)! Because we were under pressure to finish everything on-time for a family reunion (of which A1 was aware), we inquired often about the delays. Apparently, A1 thought they were pushed to some abstract "limits" (their expression). The result was that A1 cancelled the final part of its contract with me. Hence, our path and patio resurfacing will not get done! That's important because my wife and I are elderly (mid 70's) and walk unsteadily. A1's promise, through their subcontractor, was to: "etch and apply concrete colored stain to rear patio and rear walkway approx. 495 sq. ft... walkway and patio stain will have shark grip additive for traction". So far, I've paid A1 $20,800; that covered the driveway and brick apron. Pursuant to our contract, the plan was to pay A1 an additional $2,000 for the patio and rear walkway. I am extremely disappointed that my wife's 2 or 3 polite/short/casual protests about the apron's completion, followed by me expressing justifiable annoyance with A1's "limit" remark, resulted in A1's capricious withdrawal from the balance of our contract. Although the driveway and apron seem finished (but only time will tell!), my wife and I will miss PROFOUNDLY the "shark grip additive" on our rear walkway and patio. My wife has had two strokes, I a heart transplant and, between the two of us, 6 SERIOUS orthopedic surgeries over the past 3 years. Therefore, we were counting on the pathway and patio additives for accident/risk mitigation. They, as much as anything in this contract, were VITALLY IMPORTANT to us. Finally, on a personal note, I am confused and saddened by all this! Jeff is a competent and kind man with whom, through this process, I became friendly. In one of the earlier reviews, it was mentioned that attempts to contact A1 Driveway were frustrating and given their popularity it is understandable that someone might not get a response right away, persistence is key for a company like this....my lower than average rating is not because they didn't do an excellent job, I am very pleased with my new driveway and pathways that were installed, what is unsatisfactory to me is the lack of respect for existing landscaping and property....I lost several shrubs to them being hacked, uprooted or trampled, had I been warned I would have had my yard guy simply remove them from the areas of concern, also somehow and I am still trying to figure this out, my side gate hardware was broken and attempts to contact Jimmy McCurry at A1 have been futile.....so the best I can recommend is, be warned that there could be some property damage if you decide to use this company read more
