It's always my worst fear that i will go to start my car and it won't start or i will be driving and it break down. Yesterday it happened. I went to start my car and it stalled and all the lights flashed. Roadside assitance came to jump me and i drove straight to O'Reilly to test my battery and sure enough it was dead. The guy at O'Reilly said the battery for my car was $160, and i could buy it there and he suggested a repair shop that could install, but said i would probably be charged labor fees since where my battery is they would have to remove stuff under the hood to get to it. It was too late to go to any shop, so i opted not to buy the battery and call around the next day. I did some research, saw A1 had good reviews on yelp. A1 was also recommended by my friend when i was venting to her. I called A1 and was quoted a price over the phone. I drove across town to the shop a few hours later after calling a few other places. The staff was really friendly. They didnt try to sell me anything extra. I was in and out of the shop within 15 minutes with a new battery and a working car. I was charged exactly what i was quoted when i called in, which did include a small labor fee because my battery is in a weird spot. However, i paid less for the battery and labor fees than what i was quoted just for a battery at O'Reillys. I will definately be back if i need a battery in the future. read more

Every so often a place surprises you with great service and A1 did just that. I called to see if they work on diesel trucks yesterday after I learned my alternator took a dump. Told guy I would have it towed in and was completely ok with having the towing company dropping it off. It only took them no more than 30 mins after it was dropped off that they called me confirming it was only the alternator and they could have it fixed by the end of the day. My truck being 2009, I thought they would have to get the alternator shipped in but to my surprise they had one. They got the truck in and repaired in only 2 hours! They called me and when I picked it up the guy told me he made sure to charge both my batteries up and he even found an extra bracket that I was missing to hold down one of the batteries. A couple of nice gestures goes a long way with me and I appreciate the great service. read more

About a year ago I was driving down Rosedale Highway with a load of wood fell out of my truck. The guys from A1 battery ran out there and helped me pick it all up. Today my trucks battery went dead on Rosedale Highway, had it towed in after hours and the guys were closing shop, they waited for the tow truck to arrive and put my truck in the shop overnight. My son bought a battery here roughly 7 months ago for his 2000 Mustang. First off they sold him the battery under the pretense that it was a NEW battery. Turns out the employee lied about the battery and sold him a refurbished battery/CRAP. So I had the battery on the charger all night (40amp) as recommended by A1. I tested the battery in the morning and the results were bad battery. I took them the battery to get the warranty on it pay the prorated amount and get another. Instead I was told I needed to leave it for an hour so that they could try and charge it and retest it ( 9AM ). I left it until 12 PM and returned. I was then told that they would test it. I fallowed the counter person to the battery. He tested the battery and it was STILL testing BAD. He then gave me the runaround and wanted me to leave the battery overnight. I explained to him once again that the battery had been on a 40 amp charger overnight prior to bringing it to them. Once again service. I then retrieved the battery and took it to Fast Undercar auto parts. They tested the battery stated it was Not a good battery. I purchased a battery from them for LESS than A1 with a better warranty. We own a trucking company and have been doing business with A1 for over 20 years. That stopped today. read more

Before Tuesday's visit, I would have given this place 5 stars, as they have always been great to deal with.... Though the service on Tuesday was as fantastic as always, there is a money issue. When I called for a price, I was told $289. When I got there, it was $298. Invoice total was $321.62 (included tax and a recycling fee). Charged to credit card... $332.88. A service fee of $11.26 was added without being mentioned to me. Maybe they had signage somewhere that I missed, but that much of a surcharge is ridiculous. I know the credit card processing company did not charge you over $11 to process my transaction. I'm very disappointed. read more

I had been told of quality service here, but for some reason I believed their prices were going to be high. After striking out at two other places which would have cost me $170-$240 for a battery with a 3 yr warranty. I decided to give A-1 Battery a try. I pulled in and was actually met at my truck by one of their team members. He greeted me politely, grabbed the battery from the back of the truck and carried it in. He immediately tested the battery and within a minute of my arrival we had figured out what I needed. I settled on the battery with the 5 year warranty for $99. I paid my bill and within about 4 minutes I was walking back to my truck to find the new battery had already been loaded up for me. WOW!! Where to start? These guys are amazing. I had car trouble in the morning where AAA came out and checked my battery - they charged it and told me to drive around for a while, and it should be good. Well, when I got home, I turned the car off and then back on. Car started up, but brake pedal kicked back at me which I thought was odd. I chatted with a friend who suggested A-1 as they could check the alternator (AAA didn't check that) for free. Who does anything for free anymore? A-1 does. Well I decided to give them a try. Got there, and 3 nice men were there ready to help. Alternator was good, but end result was the battery - was very low, and a cell was going bad. I was given choices of batteries (no pressure), prices etc. Got a new battery with a 5 year warranty and I was on my way. All done in under 10 minutes, which included explaining to me why the brake pedal was kicking back. I highly recommend this place. You're also not looking forward to dealing with male mechanics looking down their nose at you because you don't know much about the inner workings of your engine. I went through this whole emotional journey several weeks ago and six of my friends recommended A-1 Battery as my ace-in-the-hole. After getting a jump start, I headed straight down to their location on the North side Rosedale Highway just West of Fruitvale Ave. Later on, yet another friend told me that I could have called them and paid them a small fee to come right to my house to deal with the battery, but I haven't confirmed that independently. I was in and out of there in under 10 minutes. The employees were very friendly and treated me with respect. They tested my battery to confirm it was dead, and presented me with my options for replacement batteries without trying to steer me towards the most expensive option. They had the new battery installed and had me on my way quickly and cheaply and I haven't had a problem with the car since (though I did just join AAA just in case). They don't just sell car batteries, either. They carried everything from AAA batteries on up to large ones for many different purposes. Went to A-1 Battery today to purchase 3 batteries for my bass boat. As the guys in the shop swapped out my batteries, I went to the office to pay for everything. Afterword, I walked to my truck and noticed they had charged me an extra $17+ dollars without any notification. I then went back to the office and was told that they charge 3.5% on every purchase made with a credit card. I then asked why this was not mentioned in the beginning, and was told that the small sign located on the back of the computer screen was how they notified customer. This really surprised me, I couldn't believe that a family owned business would screw hard working locals over in a time of need. Most of the time when people are there buying batteries, it's unexpected and not something they budgeted for that month. Shame on you A-1, I can't believe the owner is that hard up to make an extra 17+ dollars off someone who is just trying to survive!!!!!!!! read more

Unfortunately we bought 4 batteries in the last year. Well needless to say it was because one vehicle had 2 batteries. We had used vehicles and because of all the bells and whistles the new cars have I'm told that they drain your battery just sitting in your garage, really??? Who would of thought. But going here the process was painless time wise and on the pocket. I was actually in and out within 20 minutes tops!! One of the really nice things about these guys is they do offer a lifetime warranty on their batteries which is a nice option to have if you ever need it. So service is excellent. I went to drive my car and it wouldn't start. Called the Auto Club and they came right out. The driver checked my battery said it was low an said it's time for a new one. He got us up and running! Happened to be waiting to get my smog test done next door at A-1 smog (check them out if you need it!), and remembered I needed to replace my battery so I inquired with the guys in the garage and they were all very nice. I told them I was waiting for a smog test and the tallest of the three (sorry didn't get your name) recommended to get the smog done first and then pull into their garage to switch out the battery. So that's what we did. The technician who worked on my car was very helpful. He explained why my battery leaked (it's very common), and that they had the same (if not similar) one as I was using with the options of a 4 year or 5 year battery life/warranty. Once I picked the option, he let the guy at the register know and he started on it as I went in to pay. It was all done and taken care of in no time. They also don't charge for installation when you purchase the battery from them, so that was nice. Overall good experience here and highly recommend them. read more

I have bought batteries from this store for twenty years. When you pull up, they test your battery, show you the results, and if need be they will replace your battery in less than 1/2 an hour. I have bought all types of batteries, from huge batteries for diesel water trucks and tractors, to many batteries for 1/2 ton USA made trucks, my smaller imports, all the way down to the battery for my remote/alarms for many cars and trucks. The bird Bubba is a cool detail about this store too. I can't have a big bird like him, but I like to visit him when I am here.
