I have called Mark W twice over the last couple of years for issues with appliances. This is a gentleman who loves his craft. Both times, he has called me back quickly (most recently on a Saturday). And both times he walked me through steps that might solve my problems - at no charge. He also told me that my 8+ year old dishwasher was sufficiently old that a major repair was not worth it and better to replace. In other words, Mark seems like the kind of man who is not just out to make a buck off of unsuspecting customers who don't really know what their appliance issue is. I can understand some of the comments about his demeanor. He is direct and sometimes brusque. But if you can get past that and don't expect a lot of smooth talking, you will probably save yourself some money and end up with a repaired appliance at a reasonable cost. read more

I was super impressed by mr. Weinstein's customer service. He wasn't jumping to come to my house to see the appliances and was very honest about his opinion of my poor quality appliances (they are only 3 years old and a super crappy brand-already breaking) but I liked the honesty! Much rather honesty over getting ripped off. He recommended I try to fix them myself before poring money into them coming to do it. I YouTubed it and have been able to fix two very easily and affordably myself. He gave me a solution for the third, but I haven't tried it yet. He even called back to check in. I will definitely use these guys again and recommend them to everyone I know. ETA: these guys are seriously grade A!!!! Called again about our crappy dishwasher breaking and he said, "do you want to know what you should do? Call this other company (I forget the name) and get a new whirlpool." It's the best advice he could've given. Such a great machine and the company was fabulous. Thank you! People rave about this guy on my local listserv and I'm usually a big fan of mom-and-pop shops and gruff-but-honest service workers. But let me describe the my last six days of interacting with him. I sent him an email via his website *with the model number of my oven* and an explanation of the problem, asking if we could schedule a time for him to come out and evaluate it. He emailed back immediately and asked for photos. I thought, that's nice, I appreciate his willingness to look at photos before coming out. But I was not at home, so I made a note to send him photos; I didn't have time to get to it for a few days. In the meantime he left me multiple additional voicemails complaining that I hadn't sent photos yet. After 4 days, I was able to send them. He then scolded me that I hadn't gotten what he needed in the photos and I needed to remove the racks and look for a panel in the bottom of the oven and possibly remove that panel and then take the photo. Fine -- but again, I was busy, and was not going to have time to tackle this for a couple days. He left me two additional voicemails in two days, and the second one berated me for not getting him the photos and warned, "This is the last time I'm going to call." That raised some red flags for me but I decided to proceed. So this morning I sat down in front of my oven and called him. He told me again that my photos were not helpful and of the wrong thing. I offered to send him additional photos, but he said he could just come by this morning and take a look. That was nice of him, but I said I had work calls I had to be on most of the morning, and a stressed out dog to manage, so it probably wasn't a good morning. He said I should just put the dog behind closed doors, show him in, point to the oven, and he'd leave me a note with his diagnosis. I told him again I didn't think this morning would work well, and tried to schedule for next week. He started lecturing me about how Monday is the busiest day of his week and I could TRY calling him then but probably he wouldn't have time, and he could get the ball rolling today if he could see if any parts needed ordering. So I reluctantly agreed. He mentioned the charge for a visit is $128. I said okay, and told him to feel free to park in our driveway if there was room. Then I scrambled to reschedule my morning, swapping a work call and an in-person conversation with a friend, thinking that something in-person during that time would work better than a phone call. He arrived, I showed him to the oven, I asked if he needed anything else, he glared at me. I went back to my friend in the other room. In a few minutes, I realized he was standing silently behind me. He told me the oven would need to be removed from the wall to be repaired and he "wasn't prepared to do that." I was confused. "Oh. Ok. Do you mean, not today? Or not at all?" He repeated himself, and started walking past me, out the front door, down the front walk. The oven would need to be removed to repair it and he was not prepared to do that. Ever. I walked to the door to close it after him, agog. As he walked, he barked back at me that this could have been resolved via photos. (But I sent you three photos and offered to send more, I thought--speechless by now.) ... "AND THERE WASN'T ANY ROOM IN YOUR DRIVEWAY!" he concluded. I told him to have a nice weekend. He didn't look back. So... know what you're getting into. I totally believe that he provides great service for some people and some problems. I've had service guys kind of like this, who I got along with, and things went fine even though some people found them abrasive. So I'll just say, if the above sounds like something you want to avoid at all costs, or if for any reason you get the sense this guy hates you and the horse you rode in on... you should trust your instincts and move on. read more

Do not use them. The person answering the phone is very rude. He refused to even take a LOOK at my washer, claiming it was "too old" to be repaired and I should just "buy a new one". That's not exactly in my budget right now, which he didn't even consider with his rude comments. He went on to explain that it wasn't worth his time to even come and look at it! HAHAHA! Imagine running a business that is doing so well that you don't need customers!! WOW. Needless to say, I found a company that was willing to look at it, and it is a simple part that has been ordered and can be replaced easily and it's inexpensive. Will I get ten years out of it? Probably not, but at least now we have some time to save some money This guy wanted me to put this washer in a landfill because he's lazy. I'd give zero stars if that was an option. read more

I wish zero stars was an option here. I have never written a negative review but I feel compelled to do so here. On his first service call, he told me that the issue was a missing clip on the door of my dryer. When he put in place a temporary fix (but said the door would still be loose) i figured that would at least make the thing workable until we were out of this rental. It didn't. So when he returned, he berated me for having not cleaned the vent (which, we had done recently) and said the issue was our maintenance (and refused to acknowledge what he had said the issue was previously). He then blamed it on me to my landlord. That's a whole other cluster, but we'll stay on point here. Today, the original problem still persists. This is all after experiencing Weinstein's terrible customer service where he scolded me for not picking up his unplanned phone call. As if I was inconveniencing him for trying to give him work... I am so sorry Mr. Weinstein that some of us have to work during the work day... He proceeded to tell me he could not schedule an appointment and I needed to be available all day. He also hung up on me once because he said he couldn't hear me (I was on a stable line in my own house) and then proceeded to not call back. You can only guess what happened when he tried to call back another day and god forbid I wasn't available at his beck and call. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional, rude, and incompetent service person. Best part was, he charged over $160 for 10 minutes. Had he actually fixed the issue, maybe it would be worth it. But as someone who also bills by the hour, that's absurd - especially considering we had to wait all day for him to show up when he pleased. read more

My wife and I have been using Mark Weinstein for our appliance repairs, both at home an in a rental property, really for as long as I can remember. His repairs are good and reliable and the price reasonable, but one aspect of his service that sets it apart from the many other repair people we have used over the years is that he really hates to come out to a job, charge a showup fee, and then find there is nothing he can so. So he asks questions about the problem, tries to perform of phone diagnosis, and suggest either tests we can run and report back to him, or easy fixes that we can try ourselves. Only if those don't work does he come in. Or, he may tell us that based on what he is hearing, the problem may be unfixable (or so costly that a new appliance is the better bet). Our choice, of course, but these dire conclusions have proved right. First rate guy, highly recommended read more

A Weinstein Inc repairs most major appliances in DC (NW, SW, and NE) and MD (Montgomery, PG, Howard, Anne Arundel). I have been using them for nearly 20 years and think they're among the best. Very professional and reasonably priced. They do a lot of work in my neighborhood (Takoma Park) and a number of my other neighbors also sing their praises - they are regularly recommended on my neighborhood list serve. The owner, Mark, answers all phone calls personally, and he handles many of the repair jobs himself. He's a nice guy to deal with, as are the rest of his staff. There are three other repairmen who work for him, and all have been with the company for years - very little turnover, which is a good sign. Weinstein generally can schedule appointments on the same day or next day; and they are usually available to come out on weekends and holidays for emergency calls (at a premium price, of course). I've always appreciated that whenever you call Weinstein for a repair visit, Mark asks for details about the problem and often is able to offer advice on the phone that could save you the cost of a repair call (how many repairmen do that?). One time my dishwasher wouldn't pump out the water and after trying what I could think of, I called Weinstein to schedule a repair, afraid of the worst, thinking I needed a new pump. Before setting up the appointment, Mark asked about what I had tried so far - I had cleaned out both the air gap and drain line to no avail. He then suggested that I press the "Cancel" button on my controls, explaining that it would force a drain cycle and reset my timer. Voila, it worked like a charm and my dishwasher was back in business without spending a penny on repairs. Customer Service like that breeds loyalty. When Weinstein has come out to make repair calls, they've always been prompt, or called ahead if they were running late. Over the years at various points I have gotten service from Mark and two of his other repairmen. They all knew what they were doing and were generally pretty quick at diagnosing the problem. More often than not they have had the parts they needed on their truck and finished the job on the first visit. A couple of times they had to order parts, which they did by phone while they were at my job site, and on both occasions they came back within 2 or 3 days to finish the job. They have been good at explaining what the problem is and what it will cost to fix, the work has been done right every time, the repairmen are always pleasant to deal with and cleanup after themselves. If I have any complaint about Weinstein, it's that they don't work on everything. They handle the basic major appliances - refrigerator, oven, stove, dishwasher, washer, dryer - but won't touch microwaves or dehumidifiers. Also, they stay away from working on some of the high end European brands, like Bosch (fortunately, all my appliances are more common manufacturers like Whirlpool, Maytag, Jenn Air and GE). However, I would rather use an appliance repairman who only works on what he knows how to fix rather than someone who sails off into the wild blue yonder on a piece or equipment they have never touched before. I've used Mark Weinstein twice over the span of 7 years, both visits were for repairs on my washing machine. He replaced a hose in 2007 for around $70 and replaced a timer in 2013 for $120. He always showed up on time for each visit. While he may come across as gruff on the phone, he's perfectly fine in person. I called Mr. Weinstein, left a message and within a couple hours had my call returned. He quickly let me know that he was in the area and could drop by to check out my broken oven/ fridge. Soon after his arrival, he found simple solutions my oven and fridge issues. No need to order expensive new parts or for time consuming work. He gave me sound advice to avoid these issues in the future, I gladly paid the extremely reasonable service fees and he went on his way to another service call. Simple, straightforward and honest. We had A Weinstein Inc. (AW) out to check a 3 year old frig that had a temperature controller that was not working. We had a discussion prior to his visit and he tried to fix the problem on the phone (to save us the cost of a visit). We could not fix the problem on the phone; so he ordered a part that may fix the problem prior to his first visit out to the house. When he arrived he fully assessed the function of the frig, even the items that were working fine. He determined that it required a part that he did not have so he would have to order it. He called when the part arrived to scheduled a return visit. When he returned he repaired the frig quickly and charged us a reasonable charge (did not include any parts he ordered that he did not use). Throughout the entire process AW Inc was professional, let us know what was going on (orders, potential problems, etc.) and handled our problem (and checked for others) quickly and cost effectively. I would definitely recommend this repair company and use them again. read more

My rating is a reflection of Mr. Weinstein's customer service. Unfortunately, I cannot speak to his work as we didn't make it that far. I only called Mr. Weinstein because of the positive reviews on this site. I needed to have a refrigerator repaired. I explained the issue we I was experiencing and he attempted to trouble shoot over the phone. He asked me to give him a call back the following day, which I did. When I spoke with him the next day, he was very rude and made me feel as though I was doing him a favor by trying to give him business. After trying to get a window of time for him to actually visit the property, he begrudgingly responded "I'll give you a call tomorrow afternoon." Unfortunately, I don' t have the luxury of time to wait for a "call" to find out if he will or will not come, particularly on a refrigerator repair. So I respectfully declined his service, to which he responded, "Do you want me to come out or not?" Seriously?!?! I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I've been calling on Mark Weinstein for appliance repairs for years -- since 2006, maybe longer. Today he repaired our Whirlpool clothes washer, less than 24 hours after our call. Friendly and competent service, every time. Sure, somebody's got to be home during the day. That's sort of an intrinsic requirement for house-call service. Mr. Weinstein was recommended by two people on our listserve for washer/dryer repairs but when I called him he seemed annoyed that I'd interrupted him. Our connection was very poor (I was on a land line) and asked twice if I could call him back to see if we could get a better connection. To which he sighed loudly and said "fine". This outfit is the greatest! Couldn't possibly ask for more rapid response or better service. Discovered water leak from washing machine in my DC condo on Christmas Day. Left message on Weinstein website, assuming it would be at least 5-6 days before he could come out. To my surprise, Mr. Weinstein called me back within 2 hours -- diagnosed the problem immediately, and gave me tips to clear the water intake valve WHILE HE WAS HOLDING ON THE PHONE, and asked me to call him back in 2-3 hours with the result. Fortunately, his advice cleared the valve and machine is now working. So he saved me a big mess, and didn't make a penny from my distress call. All this on Christmas Day no less! Wow. I once called him on Christmas Eve morning (thinking I would put my hat in the ring for the following week), he said, a little defensively, "I won't be able to get there until 11 o'clock....". Ummmm, okay....it was 9:45, Christmas Eve. 'Sure, 11:00'. And of course , he fixed it good, giving me an education while he was doing it...I had ice cubes at the bottom slide for the bottom freezer, preventing it from truly closing. The obstruction was '"sending" a false message to the refrigerator, that's why the top was not cold. This guy is good. Now Yelpers, if we can just take a minute....think that we have got to realize how these companies work. People want warm caring service, that's what they SAY they want, yet they wind up going to big box stores because they want Cheap. Weinstein' is a small company. He's knowledgeable, fairly priced, and more than prompt. You might not want to hear what he has to say.......like when the vet tells you this pet has to be put down. But, you know what----it takes a bit to understand----this person has just taken the agony out of it for you. Mr Weinstein has a head full of knowledge for appliances, can tell you what to avoid if you do have to buy a new one because it's not worth the repair. And, of course you will pay for the service visit, even if you didn't get "the patient" repaired........are big box store repair services any different? I had a dishwasher catch on fire...not smoke----flames...while it was engaged in the water cycle because Mr. Franchise Repairman stuffed all the wires back after his so-called fix. What if I had not been in the next room? Could it have caught fire when it wasn't in a wash cycle, while I was away from home? Can only guess, afraid to know the answer. Now you know how Mr. Weinstein works.......he will not sell you what you don't need. You might not like the answer about the 'patient's condition', but you will have the truth. Be sure to have the work ready for him in appreciation for his promptness....(an unheard of commodity---usually you need to make an appointment to MAKE an appointment with other places). Have his work ready....maybe add some light to the room, take all that stuff down from the top of the refrigerator...remove the baskets so he doesn't have to, put some towels down....make the surgeon's work easier. Before you call him, have the MODEL number of the appliance ready to give to him. Might want to take a phone-pic of the serial and model number from the machine. Write down what the symptoms are, spell it out for the nice doctor so he can diagnose the problem with your phone call. My sense is that he would rather take your real-time phone call than have to trade texts and answer emails. Do your part by writing a script before you call him, the serial and model number, the symptoms of the problem. In that way, neither of you are fumbling for information. You can have your answer with a phone call, but cut to the chase, the nice man is busy. He may seem a little gruff when you first meet him---he takes control of the situation, like any winning coach.....but when you've gotten used to each other, you've got a friend for life. Last time I called him for a service call, he diagnosed me over the phone. What he told me to do worked. No service call needed. Another time, he suggested a thirty dollar part to keep him from having to come again. Oh, like I wouldn't have to pay for another service call and take off from work? Oh. Eat your heart out big box franchise repair company. I wish this guy were my stock broker....could have saved me costly mistakes. read more

Responsive, courteous, overall professional appliance repair service. We were able to get an appointment within days of calling for one and the repairman was attentive in repairing our washer when it wasn't draining water. It was unfortunately that right after the repairs were done that the washer flooded our mud room, but when I called the repairman about the situation, he came right over to double check his work and make sure everything was repaired and taken care of. No issues with the washer since then, so we were pretty satisfied with the service. read more

My refrigerator went out and I had no idea what was wrong with it. I called Weinstein this morning around 9am. It is now 12:45pm and they just left and it is back up and running. If I could give Weinstein zero stars, I would. Mr. Weinstein came into my home, yelled at our nanny, scolded me, moved an icepack and claimed to have solved our problem. After his "fix", our refrigerator maintains a higher than standard temperature and we've been left with a $100 bill for his "services". Ultimately, my review says nothing not previously stated... The good: Mr. Weinstein has been able to repair my busted appliances three times. He works quickly and, if you're interested, he explains what he is doing and what you should do to not have the same problem again. Prices seemed reasonable. He's a small business. He picks up his phone each time I've called. The bad: Mr. Weinstein comes off as abrasive on the phone. His tone implies he's bothered by the call and he does not schedule appointments, just gives a head's up when he's in your area. So really it could be any day, any time of day. Conclusion: Know "the bad" going into the relationship and things will all work out. read more

The condenser for my freezer stopped working. Everything started to melt. I called Mark at 10am and he was there a few hours later with the part that made the freezer start working again. He charged me $270. Just to see, I looked up the part online and it was $170. The price was fair and the freezer is working again less than 12 hours after it stopped working. read more

I had the distinct pleasure of dealing with this rude, arrogant, and seemingly incompetent repairman. Please save your money and go elsewhere. Our dishwasher, which only lacked one part when we called Mr. Weinstein, is now leaking excessively. If you try to schedule an appointment with him, he'd prefer that you leave the key under the mat and come by when he feels like it. Oh, and if you actually get him to commit to morning or afternoon, he'll still stop by on a totally different time schedule. For people who work during the day, this company does not provide convenient hours. I have a condo with tenants who work and he could not come by before 9:30a or after 5 or 6p. I asked what the earliest and latest times were that he could arrive and his response was 10a and 2p--not much of a window. I asked if he could come on the weekends. His response: "I charge a lot for coming early, late, or on the weekends." He also would not give me a sense for his pricing structure. It's $50 for the initial call, and then it's a black hole. Would not give any framework for pricing. So, although I did not work with him, he may in fact do good work at a reasonable fee. But his bedside manner was offputting. In fact, as we finished, he said, "Why don't you call one of those other guys then, who will charge you a million dollars!" Uhhhh.....ok. I will, in fact. Thanks anyway. read more

I called this company on a Friday evening at 5pm and they were willing to help however I needed. They were very knowledgeable, diagnosing the issue with my oven over the telephone. They were friendly and willing to help. I brought them into to fix the issue the next day and they did a great job. I found Mark Weinstein via Yelp, and the experience couldn't have been better. For months we've been wrestling with a temperamental stove -- sometime it would light, sometimes it wouldn't. Mark took my call on Friday afternoon. I described the problem over the phone, and he walked me through an initial diagnosis. He told me he'd be able to come out on Monday, and that he'd be in touch on Monday morning. He called around 10:15a, and he arrived less than an hour later with an assistant, and with all the right tools and parts in hand. He confirmed his phone diagnosis, replaced the part (a new igniter), gave me some super-helpful free advice about minor issues with our stovetop and our fridge, and that was that. 45 minutes flat, 178 bucks all in. While he was here, I heard him take a call on his headset from a couple of prospective customers. One he referred to a colleague who would be able to respond more quickly based on geography. And the other, he did a phone diagnosis, and then talked himself out of a job by explaining to the caller that she'd be better off buying a new dryer than trying to fix the one she wanted him to fix. Just terrific service. Weinstein is responsive, honest, skilled, reasonably priced, and just plain good at what he does. He will be my first call for appliance repair going forward. read more

So I had called this guy on Friday, when I wrote the review, and thought I was done with him. He called me Monday morning asking where my place was. I thought it was the other company I had called in the meantime as he didn't introduce himself, and wasn't surprised because people often have trouble finding my place. If it were possible to give zero stars, that would be the rating Mr. Weinstein would deserve. I cannot speak for his craftsmanship, but his customer service is most dissatisfying and unprofessional. He came into my home to investigate a problem and spent the entire time on his cell phone. When he actually got off his phone, he was immediately rude and abrasive towards me. He told me he couldn't and wouldn't help me. I asked him to provide a reason for why he could not do the job with the appliance, for which he merely replied "I am not your guy. I wouldn't touch this." Not realizing it was Mr. Weinstein himself, I asked for his name and card so that I could speak to his manager. He adamantly refused to provide any information. I have never written a review before but have never experienced such rude and unprofessional customer service, in my home of all places, that I felt compelled to share. read more

I have a problem with my Kenmore compact dishwasher (18") leaking from the bottom right side. I called Weinstein yesterday and was told that most likely the earliest they could come out was next week. They called me today and arrived less than an hour later. He was thorough in his inspection of the machine and the problem. His findings/suggestions made sense and were reasonable as was his price. They struck me as trustworthy (very rare today) and honest. Before you call this guy, research the internet to determine if you can do the work yourself. Mr. Weinstein's labor charges are outrageous. It took him thirty minutes to repair my washer machine and the part cost was twenty dollars. Net cost for service for less than 30 minutes $200.00. So that makes Mr. W's labor charges at 180.00. Well I called to see if I could have him look at my dishwasher, he asked the brand and said it was trash??? Ok. Thanks?? He said that the brand I had wasn't worth his time to see since it was probably broken even tho it was only less then 5 years old. Ok, fine I understand that u don't like a brand amd maybe dont want to come to columbia just to tell me it sucks but to proceed in the manner of continuous bashing of a crappy brand didn't leave a good taste. I know it might needed to be replaced and I was fine with that and switching brands and would have hired you to do but with no option I will look else where. I'm pretty baffled on how you get business after talking to you for 5 mins, wow. Maybe you should offer a suggestion and other options b4 you deny business just off of existing brands.
