On 3/1/2026, I hired my Mr. Steve Corvera and his team to upgrade my home to include complete…read moreinterior painting of the home, install flooring, replace 1 bedroom closet door, repair two cabinets, install ceiling fans, remove old door hinges and replace old door handles on drawers. I was clear that I was preparing the property for a rental and wanted the job completed by 3/1, he assured me that the job would be completed within "10 to 13 days". After being very patient w/ the quality of work being produced after clear instructions and several extensions given, I terminated the contract on 4/7/2026. The quality of work was extremely poor, several tasks that I had paid in full (10,000+) for was not completed and his team actually caused damaged to the property.
At the time of the termination, the following damage and outstanding tasks were noted:
Property Damage:
-Three independent estimates have confirmed new damage to the property caused directly by Mr. Corvera's team during the course of the project: 1) Paint damage to my front and back yard grassy area/concrete, newly installed flooring throughout my home, door knobs and bedroom/bathroom wall mirrors 2) Broke wooden door on back porch that houses ironing board 3) Several doorways CUT at the bottom during flooring installation 4) Kitchen vent cover (over the stove) was painted instead of being removed, now deemed inoperable and must be replaced
Damaged Fixtures:
-2 of 4 lightening ceiling fans for installation were damaged during the handling and/or improper installation, rendering them unusable or devalued. I requested 4 identical lightening ceiling fans, only two were identical
Extremely poor workmanship/incompleted task that I paid for in full in good faith:
-Repair the damage on all doorways that was cut during flooring installation
-Install new baseboards in hallway and (3) bedrooms
-Painting and repair - (2) hallway cabinets (1) back porch cabinet
-Several doors painted shut
-Install blinds throughout the house
-Mud patch and prime walls throughout the house before painting
-Mud patch and sand ceiling in kitchen and back porch
-Install cabinet and drawer knobs
-Install new bedroom closet door
-Reinstall light switch and electrical outlet covers and remove paint from the electrical socket d/t poor paint job
-Repair back porch cabinet housing iron that was damaged by Mr. Corvera's team
-Complete painting of 3-bedroom closets
-Complete painting (back porch cabinet, hallway cabinet, underneath kitchen sink, underneath bay window in the living room) and touch up paint throughout entire home (clearly explained that my expectation was for all nails and wall fixtures were to be removed from every wall, mud patch/sand and then paint. This was not done)
-Repair damaged concrete and grass (from paint being disposed or spilled)
-Paint back door
-Reinstall gas line (fireplace)
-Reinstall ceiling recessed lights, no light in the living room at all
-Install and replace 2 ceiling fans that were broken on install or broken enroute by Mr. Corvera, he was responsible for purchase and delivery, ensure all 4 are identical
-Reinstall towel rack in bathroom (portion of towel rack missing, a new one is needed)
-Realign lower cabinet door underneath kitchen sink
-Remove paint from wall mirror in 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom
-Remove paint on newly installed floors throughout the house
-Add quarter round at the base of the inside of (3) closets
-Complete flooring work that outlines the fireplace
-Install wood or flooring to fill gap between hallway and bathroom flooring
-Remove construction material/trash from backyard
-Reinstall washer and dryer
I hired a new contractor, not only did that team need to re-do (except the flooring) everything that Mr. Corvera's team had done, he needed to repair the damages noted above and brought to my attention the following:
While preparing a wall (located behind the washer and dryer) to be mud patched/skim coated/primed on the back porch, the new contractor noted the wall to be soft to touch and dry wall easily crumbled which indicated water damage in his professional opinion which was confirmed when the wall was opened up to assess the issue. Mold was present on the baseboards prior to him starting this project and Mr. Corvera's team painted over the mold which ended up growing right back through it! Mr. Corvera's failure to notify the writer/owner of mold found in the home is not only egregious and negligent but also extremely dangerous considering that mold exposure carries serious health risks to include upper respiratory symptoms (coughing, wheezing and nasal congestion), asthma flare-ups, eye/skin irritations and severe reactions in those individuals who are immunocompromised. Through the lens of a kidney transplant recipient (June 2025) and a Registered Nurse, I am absolutely appalled and disgusted by Mr. Corvera's lack of professionalism and disregard for the health and welfare of others as a licensed contractor.
