I checked Yelp and read the numerous positive reviews for Star Auto Check. I requested a quote via Yelp and within seven minutes, I received a reply and a quote from Joe. Joe advised me that a smog check was $39.75 plus $8.25 for the smog check completion certificate. Joe also mentioned that no appointment was required and that it would take ten mins max to have the service completed. Everything sounded good to me so I took my truck in for a smog check. Upon my arrival, I was immediately directed to park my truck in an available bay. A very friendly and hard working employee (Sergio) approached me and requested my DMV renewal notice or the vehicle registration which I provided. I had time to sit in the waiting room and glance over friend's Yelp reviews (what could be better than reading Yelp reviews? :) Nine minutes later, Sergio walked in and announced "your truck is ready". WHAT!! Wow, I was impressed as the service was completed in record time. Sergio advised me that proof of the service was electronically sent to the DMV and that I should receive my new tags within seven to ten days. Nothing further was required from me. I was genuinely impressed and thankful for the GREAT and friendly customer service I received today. Thank you!

He told the other tech that we were ridiculous to watch him because he wasn't going to steal anything. Well, I never thought about that until he mentioned it. I honestly just wanted him to finish so that I can be on my way. I was staring at my car sitting in the stall not doing anything and wondered why I was still there. Another car that came in later was finished first. I told him that I heard and understood what he said. The price for the service was fair but I certainly didn't need the attitude even if it was a joke or not.

I swung by at noon today (Friday) there were 2 customers ahead of me. My car was serviced at 12:21pm and was done at 12:28pm. I paid cash as I believe there's a small fee if you pay with a card. However, last week when I went to renew my registration, I realized I had to do a smog check in order to complete the process. W H A T!?!?! I panicked because I have never gotten a smog check before AND my registration was literally due in a days. I paid for the fees and went right on to Yelp to start my search. There were many places through out the SGV and OC around me, all had very reasonable prices. However, not all of them were opened on Sundays. I was already on my way to Rowland Heights to run some errands so I decided to stop by Smog Test Only Discount Center nearby just to see if they would accept walk ins. Thank Goodness they were opened until 2pm and only had 1 customer before me. The total time spent was approximately 30 minutes and total cost was $55 (accepts Cash, CC, Zelle). Maria helped me and she was SO nice! I am not sure if I may need another smog check anytime soon, but I do plan on referring friends and family here if they ever need one. I requested a quote through Yelp and my request was sent to multiple auto shops. I chose this…read morecompany based on location and called ahead to confirm they could do more than just read basic codes. I had already done my own diagnostics and knew the car was running rich. I had ruled out the upstream O2 sensor, catalytic converter (both new), MAP sensor, and fuel injectors. I explained all of this to Matt before bringing the car in. He assured me they could perform deeper diagnostics with their equipment. After dropping off the car, Matt called and told me they had "confirmed" exactly what I had already told them, and that the next step would be pulling spark plugs--for an additional fee. At that point, I decided to go elsewhere. What I don't understand is why I was still charged the full $85 diagnostic fee, plus a $4 hazardous materials fee and $3 shop supply fee. Plugging a car into a diagnostic scanner does not generate any hazardous waste--no fluids are drained, no chemicals are used, and no parts are replaced. There's nothing about a basic scan that would justify a hazardous materials charge. That kind of fee typically applies when disposing of things like oil, coolant, or other regulated waste, none of which occurred here. In the end, I paid $92, wasted time and gas, and learned nothing new. The most concerning part was Matt admitting he didn't even know spark plugs would need to be checked as part of further diagnosis.
