We were made to let them know which tea we wanted days in advance, garden or luncheon. This we could understand if they needed certain ingredients, however it seems it did not make a difference. Whem we arrived we were never told exactly what we were going to be served until they would bring it out. It seems many things are up to the chef's discretion here. They can serve you salad OR soup and the tea sandwiches on the menu can be changed to quiche at any time without notice to the guests, even those with dietary restrictions that were disclosed about prior to their arrival. The food served seemed to have been pre-made and refrigerated for some time prior to serving. We all left hungry and stopped at Chick-fil-a on the way home. While we all agreed afterwards we may have been able to overlook the terrible food as this was meant to be a special day for the children and their great grandmother, we could not overlook the terrible service. The staff was hostile and rude. They did not seem to want children there, even quiet and well behaved. When approached about the dietary restrctions we had informed them about when making the reservation, they seemed unable and unwilling to help. Overall this is the worst dining experience I have ever had and the establishment seems unresponsive to their guests needs and unwilling to change things, except when it suits them. I stronly recommend staying away from this place unless you want to leave hungry and be verbally chastised. read more

Such a cute tea shop with the nicest staff. It's a good place to go for a lady date. We had high tea and I strongly suggest making a reservation since they're usually quite busy. It's a tiny place so if you have any dietary restrictions they like to know in advance to meet your needs. The high tea came with scones, soup, salad, sandwiches, and an array of desserts. It also came with unlimited pots of tea AND they let us take some to go in a cup! Plenty of food to fill you up. Will definitely be coming back and I plan to treat my grandma to tea! read more

I've always been very happy with my experience on several visits to A Tea Affair. The food is fresh and delicious, the pastries are made by a local French chef, and the tea selection is wider than you often get at afternoon teas. The service has always been warm, friendly, and accommodating. They even made my friend new tea sandwiches on the spot after we arrived and I realized that I'd forgotten to tell the staff she was vegetarian when I reserved. In addition, the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing, with bright yellows and reds, soft music, and fun window seats. The shop section next door to the tearoom has a nice array of looseleaf teas and other items. I enjoy going to tea from time to time and lived in the area for many years, and I think it's one of the best teas going in the area. I also like the range of choices, with the possibility of getting just a scone, a more substantial garden tea, or a fuller high tea. read more

This was my first time here and absolutely loved it! The atmosphere was just as you would imagine a tea room to look like.. just beautiful. The food was excellent , everything was my favorite! Never had clotted cream before and could have eaten a whole jar. My only regret was that I did not take pictures of the delicious food. The service was excellent and our waitress Maddy was on the ball... thank you! For sure, I will be back! This lunch was a Birthday gift with my dear friend. Thank you Sandie! read more

This is the second time I've tried this tearoom. I was equally as dissatisfied. The scones are more like a muffin and the clotted cream given for two people was barely enough for one. There is a great selection of tea in the adjacent store, but the menu is very limited on selection. As I watched high tea being served to other tables I was disappointed to see that it wasn't served on tiered plates but instead all arrived on one plate. I will not give it a third try. read more

I was part of a group of 12 ladies today for tea and it was wonderful! Each person could choose her own flavor and most had two pots! The scones, quiche, salad and pastries were delicious. The service was great! I don't understand the negative reviews...everything was perfect! read more

I visit Tea Rooms with my wife when we travel and have been to many in this area. A Tea Affair by far has the best Tea. I would compare it to Teas in London. Everything is fresh, beautiful presentation, and the service is impeccable. Attention to detail is amazing. If you want to have an excellent Tea Experience A Tea Affair is a must on your to do list read more

Great place with an amazing variety of yummy loose-leaf teas! They're also affordably priced, a good alternative to Teavana. It's a fun little shop that you don't want to miss. read more

I should have known this was going to be a rough experience when I called to make the reservation for a large group and they wanted our orders several weeks in advance of our visit. I should preface this review by saying i have visited many a tea house. We were in town having a family reunion and 4 generations of ladies wanted to go out and have a nice lunch. We received anything but. We did arrive 1/2 hour prior to our reservation, we sent 1 person in to ask if we could be seated early. The staff agreed to our request. The youngest in our party needed a high chair, there was none provided and it took the staff quite awhile to produce one in a room full of glass. it was a nerve wracking experience, causing the mother of the small child to almost bail on the lunch from the beginning. the management explained that she would be charged weather she stayed to dine or not. Onto the food, as i said we needed to order our food in advance. Which we did. We indicated there were 2 people in our party who were dairy free. the small plates of food were served and they included a small piece of hard cold quiche, and a salad that had lettuce, goat cheese, and a couple of strawberries. When we questioned the chef, she stated the quiche had heavy cream. The 2 in our party agreed to settle on the salad with the goat cheese removed, thinking there would be another course of sandwiches, and then a dessert. There were no sandwiches, and the desert was a hideous bread pudding. Upon each issue, the waitress produced a manager who did not offer any solution. The children with us received 1/8 of a peanut butter sandwich and 2 small desserts. None of the food was good, the service was horrid. the only bright spot was the decor, but the stench of terrible treatment far outweighed the only bright spot. Oh did I mention the 2 who were forced to eat a $15 plate of lettuce were an 86 year old woman and a pregnant woman. By far the worst dining experience I have ever had. read more

Made a reservation on Thursday 1/16/2020 for Saturday 1/18/2020. Paid a deposit of $31.75 for our party of two and was informed it was non-refundable. I asked what their snow policy was as I knew it was supposed to snow, and was told it was refundable if they closed. On Friday, my daughter and I altered our driving plans to leave early in the morning on Saturday due to snow arriving later in the day in Lititz. We had an hour and a half drive (in good weather). We arrived in Lititz and drove by A Tea Affair to note the location for our later reservation. We noticed the shop was dark and there was a sign on the door. I want everyone reading this to know they didn't even CALL ME to let me know they were closing and they KNEW I was driving from the Poconos. They claim they left messages for "all reserved parties" on Friday. My phone has no missed calls, no calls received and no voicemails from A Tea Affair nor any of their staff. Also, when I made the reservation I asked for the latest time possible as I was afraid if we had to drive slowly I didn't want to miss our reservation time. Bonnie on Thursday said 1:15 pm was the latest and we would have to be out by 2pm as they had a shower coming in. I wanted the experience more than the sandwiches, so I agreed. So instead, went to Picadilly 483 Royer Dr, Lancaster, PA 17601. Business was bustling and they were able to set a table for us and we sat and had a lovely lunch and tea! read more

Went to the looseleaf shop - I haven't been to the tea room. We purchased a few teas, the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Very good selection. Just a wee bit pricey but considering the venue and that it's not a hugely populated area I understand. One of the teas we got was a lemon cream which may be the most delicious smelling tea I've ever gotten - it was a gift and the recipient loved it! read more

We had a delightful time here. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. The sandwiches had very nice flavors, and the desserts were varied and quite tasty. read more

What an incredibly adorable place to sit, be served tea and scrumptious hand foods, and be treated like a princess of England!! The service was incredible, the food delicious, and tea worth the price!! Loved every second of being at this restaurant and will definitely return again!! read more

I attended a garden tea with a group of friends, and overall I found it an enjoyable experience, though I do feel there are a few things that could be improved upon. Service was great, and the tea itself was very good, but I wasn't as impressed with the selection of food, especially for the price. The scones were good, though they were from a box mix. The salad was nothing special; some lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and a poppyseed dressing. Again, it wasn't bad, but it just wasn't very special, either. The three tea sandwiches were ok, but they were very, very small. The deserts were pretty yummy, but I think I would have preferred to have less desserts and an extra sandwich instead, especially since we had already had scones. I think a few tweaks, like being able to pick the type of sandwiches you would like from a list of possibilities(egg salad isn't exactly something everyone enjoys), as well as allowing you to pick the combination of sandwiches and desserts you want, would really elevate the experience. read more

I do not understand the negative reviews on this site for this tea shop. My sister and I took our mother here for tea and it was fabulous. We had the high tea - starting off with two pots of wonderful tea (there were many choices, some fancy flavors, some more traditional) and luscious soft scones. Next we were offered our choice of 3 different quiches and salad. This is TEA, not lunch or dinner so everything is petite, but plentiful. This was followed by a 3 tiered tray of mini open faced sandwiches and a variety of desserts. The sandwiches (egg salad, chicken salad, BLT and the quintessentially English cream cheese and cucumber) were delicious. We could not finish them all. I am a vegetarian and I did not go hungry. There were so many cookies and cakes served (including a lovely crème brulee) that we had to take some home in a box. Everything is made fresh on site daily. The atmosphere was charming and the staff gracious. Worth the money. We stayed past closing but were not made to hurry out. There is also a very nice gift shop. We had a great time and hope to do it again soon. read more

Visited today with 4 other friends for a 50th birthday. We were greeted by a lady who was quite rude with us when she discovered with had a last minute party change from 6 to 5. Turns out she is the owner. In no uncertain terms she communicated her displeasure about the change to our table size. It also became apparently clear she expected we would still pay for the 6th place setting, which we did and were told the 6th meal would be packed to go (upon returning home, we realized only part of the meal was included - no quiche). As a small business owner myself, I get that she has to keep an eye on waste and expenses. Seems however, she forgot her manners and her customer service skills. She insisted she called to confirm. She did not. And frankly, it wouldn't have mattered. The 6th person cancelled an hour before tea time with an unforeseen work emergency. The birthday girl, who made the reservations even took the time to explain the entire situation to the owner after we were seated (including the part where the original reservations were lost and she had to call back a second time to confirm that she actually was setup for a tea time). We do NOT intend to ever return despite the fact that our server, our tea and our food were spot on. The 3 star review is 100% a result of the owners actions and attitude. Otherwise, it would have been 5 star. We will patronize other local businesses and tea houses that have pleasant business owners. read more

Don't waste your money! Sugar Plums and Tea is a 1000 times better. We walked in on a Tuesday at 11:30. They asked if we had a reservation. I said, "No, do we need one?" She said, "No, but we need to know what you are ordering." The restaurant was empty. All tables were open. I was there with my daughter and one year old granddaughter. So, we had to look at the menu and choose while we stood in the lobby. They do not have booster seats. Please, they should have just been honest and said they didn't want us there with a child. Any way, we were seated. I held my granddaughter on my lap. She was very well behaved the whole time. The menu I saw while I stood in the lobby said the first course was soup or salad. They did not ask what we wanted, just brought us out cups of couscous with mint and tomatoes in it that neither my daughter or I could eat. It was terrible. Eventually a table of 4 walked in. The only table to come in the whole time we were there. That table was given soup. They ordered the exact same meal we both did. Their creme brulee had a cookie in it. Ours didn't. We were served more sweets (cheap sweets) than savories. The food was not good quality and my daughter and I both felt it was a big waste of money. I have never submitted a restaurant review but I just couldn't overlook the rude service and poor quality food. read more
