Here's the photo of the 2012 Lexus IS350 that I purchased that was posted by A Star Motors on their website.

Here's my car buying experience with A Star Motors in Albuquerque, NM. I live in Southern California and was looking online for a very specific car and found a 2012 Lexus IS350 F Sport in the pretty rare ultrasonic blue mica color at A Star Motors. The car had almost a 140,000 miles on it which is nothing for a Lexus as well as a clean Carfax report and the car looked to be in decent shape. I called up A Star Motors and talked to Kyle who answered a few questions and also emailed me the inspection report and I also requested additional photos of the car. The car looked pretty decent and nothing really stood out in the inspection report so I decided to pulled the trigger and made an offer. After going back and forth with Kyle, we agreed on a final price and we finalized the paperwork and payment. The car arrived a week or so later and was pretty dirty when it came off the truck so I wasn't able to inspect it until I took it to the carwash. Needless to say I was really disappointed to say the least! The front bumper, the front of the hood and the front of both fenders were pretty bad with numerous rock chips and the roof was severely sun-baked. However, the body looked pretty straight and the interior as well as the tires were in good shape. The first thing I wanted to do was have my mechanic look over the entire car and the first thing the mechanic told me was that the water pump was leaking and needed to be replaced. The shocks were original and were shot and need to be replaced as well. Shame on me for not asking about more detailed information about the mechanical condition of the car but come on A Star Motors, you should at least disclosed that the water pump was leaking and that it needed shocks especially considering I was an out-of-state buyer and couldn't physically inspect it in person. So almost $3,000 later and the water pump was replaced and new aftermarket coilovers were installed by my mechanic. I didn't have any history as far as regular maintenance so I opted to do a complete maintenance service on the car including oil change, transmission service, brake fluid flush, differential fluid exchange and new air and cabin filters. Even though the brake pads were newer, the brakes definitely had a shimmy and the rotors were slightly warped. I opted for a complete brake job with new rotors both front and rear. There went another $2,000. Now that the car was in mechanically great condition I wanted to address the rock chips and sun-baked roof. I took it to a trusted body shop and had the front bumper, the hood, and both front fenders repaired and repainted. I also had the roof painted black and the rear spoiler painted black to match. In addition, the headlights needed to be buffed out and clear-coated to get rid of the haze. Did I need to spend $4,500 at the body shop having basically the whole front end and the roof painted? Probably not but the rock chips were pretty bad and looked like crap as did the sun-baked roof and I wouldn't have been happy leaving it the way it was. Yes I probably went a little bit overboard fixing the car up but I plan on keeping it for a very long time and wanted it to be in the best condition possible. What ticked me off was that the bill of sale and all of the paperwork was dated July 13th and I overnighted the cashier's check the same day but I didn't receive the actual signed title until August 17th. I did receive the bill of sale as well as legal documents and a copy of the Carfax within a few days but I needed the actual title to get it registered in my name which took a month to arrive. Why did it take a month to receive the title A Star Motors??! I have no idea but somebody dropped the ball and had I not had the car in the body shop I would have been furious because I would have been unable to drive it without it being registered. In the end the car is now the way I want it but obviously it cost me several thousand dollars above and beyond the purchase price to bring it up to the mechanical and cosmetic condition that I expect. The car drives great and will last for another 100,000 miles but I do suggest having a trusted LOCAL mechanic look at the vehicle up and down which I should have done and that would have at least told me that the water pump was leaking and the shocks were shot and the brakes had a shimmy and that it probably needed some cosmetic work. At that point I could have negotiated the price down to a more reasonable and fair purchase price based on the condition of the car instead of paying top dollar which I think I did but I was at the disadvantage of being out of state. A Star Motors is your typical small independent used car dealer and unless you do a ton of research and are super thorough and know exactly what you're getting, then I would probably look elsewhere unless your heart is set on a very specific vehicle that they have on their lot.

Within an hour of leaving, they claimed I must have hit a curb and caused the damage. When I pushed back, the explanation then shifted to calling it "normal wear and tear," which I strongly disagree with. I felt dismissed and rushed out, with Brian Freeman addressing the issue while the General Manager was not involved. Instead of taking responsibility, I was offered a paint pen and a small credit, with no real solution or sincere apology. This experience fell far below professional standards, and I would caution others to be mindful when bringing their vehicles here. Impressively, three of my rims were damaged during a routine tire service I paid about $1,269.86 for the privilege of getting my car back in worse condition than I left it. Updated on 5/22/2026 --- I had to get a second opinion on the alignment originally done at Fiesta Subaru on 5/13/2026 and it confirmed exactly what I suspected: the job wasn't done properly. The initial alignment left multiple measurements uneven and out of spec, including camber and toe, which can lead to poor handling and uneven tire wear. After having it corrected elsewhere, everything was brought back within spec and properly balanced. DO NOT COME HERE PERIOD.

How can you dare scam everyone with the same issue, sales of the day. Posting this on Google reviews and Yelp. You should be ashamed of what you are recommending for no reason and can be done at home using a $20 product. I'll take my oil changes I've paid for but anything else will certainly not be done at this hack location Edited to add that I asked if they charged for a tire rotation, they said yes, I declined then see that since I bought the plan when I bought the vehicle that tire rotations come with the oil change. The service instructions do say tire rotation but the hack service advisor Gilbert didn't say a word. about it.
