I don't know why I thought I'd be first to review A Slice of Pie, what with it having the best pie in the world and all, but for some reason, I thought I'd be first to the punch. Silly, silly Julia. When traveling through Missouri with my husband and his family, we've been known to make major detours just to stop at A Slice of Pie. On our Route 66 trip, Justin and I made sure to stop by and refuel at this homey little spot in Rolla. Maybe not the smartest thing to do when you're the driver on a road trip, 'cause I guarantee you'll want a nap after savoring one of the huge slices of whatever tickles your fancy that day. My favorite so far is the cinnamon-y peach pie with vanilla sauce and Justin loved (but couldn't finish) the chocolate cream pie he had on our last visit. That thing was like, 6" high!! I'm pretty sure the smallest slice offered is a quarter of a pie, and these ain't no teensy pies here, folks. Come hungry--and even though the place is small, maybe come with a group so you can get a sampling of their offerings. Your big belly will thank you. read more

We are from IL on a trip to Branson. Had to swing by here based on reviews both going down AND coming back! LOL It's a strange place to find but our trusty GPS found it buried behind a laundromat. Seriously good stuff! Makes me wanna slap my grandma! We tried the turtle cheesecake and apple walnut cake with cream cheese icing on the first trip. VERY good. The only tiny flaw was they used granulated sugar in the icing vs. powdered and so it was a little grainy. Otherwise perfect. The cake was absolutely jammed with apples and nuts. A whole cake would probably be pretty heavy! The second time around I had strawberry rhubarb. The mark of a great baked pie to me is always the crust. This was very good, perfectly browned and flaky. It cried for a pinch of salt though. The filling was the perfect mix of sweet berries and tart rhubarb and left me wanting more. Much more! If I lived near Rolla, I would prob weigh 200 lbs pretty quickly. If you are within 75 miles of this place, make the trip! A whole fruit pie is $19.95 and a whole slice is $4.95. The cakes are $43.95 for a whole and $23.95 for a half cake, $4.95 for a slice. read more

Roadfood and Yelp! trumpeted this place and we had been anticipating it for hundreds of miles, but honestly, it was kind of disappointing. The crust had a great texture-- it was still crisp with a little bit of flakiness to it. But it didn't taste buttery (my wife diagnoses it as a shortening- or oil- based crust; my palate is not so discriminating as to be sure). More importantly, and more lamentably, the fillings were way too sweet. "Bumbleberry" tasted like the sugary fruit mash at the bottom of a cup of Dannon yogurt. "Peach" had a little more promise (though it was still to sweet) but all of that promise was extinguished by a cinnamon syrup that had been poured over the whole slice. I suppose that was to make up for the fact that they hadn't finished oversweetening the filling. Don't make a big production out of coming here, or if you do, get used to disappointment. read more

Okay, this place was adorable. The group I was with almost missed the turn to get to the restaurant which is tucked right next to a laundromat. It's a little bit of a hole in the wall, complete with floral wallpaper and cute old ladies working there, but don't let that stop you from bringing a group of your friends or family there! For lunch, I had a slice of their pot pie and a dinner roll which I swear was so dense, heavy, warm and delicious! And really, trust me on this because I am a pastry and pie person through and through, the pie here is probably the best you can get anywhere. I had a slice of their pumpkin pie topped with homemade whipped cream and it was a **joygasm** in my mouth! I also had a taste of the American Apple Pie with cinnamon drizzle and mmm..... The menu is huge with about 20 different pies you can order in advance (for pies that you'd like to try on the spot the menu looked like it had around 10 choices, really large selection) with choices such as Country Custard, Bumble Berry, Tollhouse Cookie Pie, Key Lime, Chess... We stopped here both on our way to and from Branson. It's kind of hard to find since it's tucked at the back of the property behind a laundrymat. On our way down I had the 1/2 slice of Turtle Cheesecake (order 1/2 slices of the cakes and full slices of the pies - trust me on this one). It came with homemade whipped cream and was so rich that after having this at 5:00 p.m., I didn't eat anymore that evening! It's so sweet that if you're a diabetic, I recommend that you don't go to the laundrymat next door! But seriously, they do have sugar free items available. I also tried a few bites of the Apple Walnut cake which had cream cheese frosting and was also very rich. On the way back home we split a slice of Strawberry Rhubarb pie which was very good. It's only 5 minutes off I-44 and well worth the detour. read more

Best pie and cheesecake in the entire world. Seriously? Amazing. I've been going to this place since I was a kid. Turtle Cheesecake with homemade whipped cream? You can't get better than this. Almost everytime I came back to St. Louis I had to stop here. The few times I brought a friend back some cheesecake I would hear, "Cheesecake Factory don't have crap on this!" Delectable, mouth watering, must have, can I get some please! This place is a must stop for everyone who travels through this area. It is a once in a lifetime experience that must be repeated when the opportunity presents itself. I have never had so many pie options, and always scrumptious and sinfully delicious. I have tried their fruity pies such as raspberry and rhubarb and peach; all amazing experiences that leave you savoring each bite. The crust is homemade and you just crack it off and eat it alone. The fruit is NOT out of a can, and is wonderful. I have also had their cheesecake, peanutbutter delight, and a few others. BUT...my favorite hands down is the french silk. Oh my heavens! Each time I get this pie, I take a bite, close my eyes, moan and am so thankful to be alive. This pie is an amazing blend of delicious chocolate, pie crust, and homemade whipped cream on top. Slice of pie takes a huge slice from your wallet, each slice is 6.95, whether it's a high cost ingredient pie like pecan or low cost like cream pies. They were out of cream pies the day we went. We opted for the peach, which was just ok. We also shared a Rubin sandwich. The food is good, but not worth the cost in my option. No great experience or value found here. read more

In town with my daughters for Volley Ball and a college visit. Found this place for a evening treat and so glad we did. Monthly special of the Mud Pie was delicious. Rich and velvety with so much chocolate made this one a favorite for my little one. My oldest ordered the Pecan Pie. Growing up on pecan Pie around the holidays, there is a pretty high bar here to achieve. Nothing more to say but simply amazing. My daughter even said it is the BEST pecan Pie that she has ever tried. Thought about rating the place only 4 stars simply because they don't accept credit. We almost couldn't order our Pie but found some extra cash hidden in the car for such emergencies. But since the pies were awesome, I'll stick with the 5 stars. In town with the lady checking out some wineries. Locals said we should give this place a try. Definite small town charm. Small shop with a varied selection of pies. I went for the chocolate cream pie and the lady went for one of the fruit pies. For me pie has to have an amazing crust and this did. The lady said hers was excellent too. My chocolate pie was good. The filling reminded me of the pies my grandma use to make and it really sent me back. If I had one complaint it would be the whipped topping was 3 times as thick as the pie and really wasn't my thing. The Lady's said she really liked her pie too. Worth the stop. Found this Slice of Pie on Yelp. I tried the bacon quiche it was very good, had a croissant with it very tasty, also had a slice of banana cream pie, it was actually a double size so you can split it or order a half slice, which is probably an actual normal piece of pie. Didn't care for all the whipped cream on top because it didn't have any flavor to it, but the actual pie was okay. I would choose a different pie next time. read more

Hidden Gem! We were recently on a road trip from Michigan to Oklahoma and stopped here based on a recommendation, and was not disappointed. It's just a little hole in the wall of an establishment off the beaten path of the highway, but what they lack in size they more than make up with flavor. They have a big selection of favorites that are always in the menu, but they also have a rotating selection. I went with the French Silk, which the proprietor described as "the sweetest pie they have". I have to agree it was over the top sweet, but every bite was heaven. read more

Perfect place for my 600th review! It had been a while since I had been to A Slice of Pie in Rolla, MO but it still looks exactly the same as my last visit. On any given day they have 30+ different varieties of mostly pies, some cheesecakes, and some cakes. They have whole pies, slices, 1/2 slices, mini pies, etc. They have warm pies, frozen pies, ice cream, whipped cream, etc. They do have a food menu as well but I've never tried the food. Why would I when the dessert options are so appealing? I had lunch with three other family members in Rolla on Friday and we made a last minute decision to stop for pie afterwards. We got 2 Bumbleberry slices with vanilla ice cream, one key lime slice, and one toll house slice. They were all completely different and unique but each one was better than the next. The key lime was frozen and very tart and creamy! The toll house was like a giant warm chocolate chip cookie with whipped cream on top! I'm not much of a fruit pie eater but the Bumblueberry was excellent and so was the crust! Thank goodness I don't get to Rolla, MO that often. This place is crazy good. If you are in Rolla it's a must see. Absolutely do not miss it. I would have rather just eaten this than lunch! It's only an hour and a half from St. Louis. Too good! read more

Our neighbors are from Rolla and advised us to go (and bring them back a Dutch Apple!) when we were visiting our daughter. So many great choices, and the offer a 1/2 slice that easily feeds 2. You can share and try a few. Cash or check only, and be warned they are BUSY on Saturdays. We took our pie to go and enjoyed it with coffee and the nearby Giddy Goat coffee house (great coffee and prices). We shared peach that came with a carmel sauce on the side, key lime and peanut butter chocolate swirl. All good, but the key lime was outstanding. They have a whole selection of pies including sugar free. The old Man behind the counter is very helpful in ordering things. You can order half slice, full slice, half or full pie. The full slice is very big and costs around $6. They only accept cash and no credit/debt cards. It's a small shop located located in an old building and could be missed easily. I have never heard of this place but after a recommendation by two people after dinner at Matts steakhouse almost half of our group decided to visit this place and indulge in dessert. I am not a big dessert person so kept it basic and ordered a slice of Dutch Apple pie. Now on to the review: 1. This place is tucked away and located next to a Laundromat and dry cleaners. Parking is limited which may be an issue during the day but around 8pm it wasn't an issue. At first glance it looked a "hot mess" from the outside. Upon entry you an instantly determine this place has been there for a while and elderly are involved in some way: cake display filled with storage of random items, paper dollie place mats, 70s mirror accent wall, clutter walkway/storage you pass by if going to the restroom (would recommend this be a staff only restroom due to the atmosphere leading to and inside), an older stale smell is noticeable immediately when you walk inside and the tables and chairs are dated. 2. The two ladies who took our orders or assisted were very friendly. You have an option to get a half slice of pie since the whole slices are large. They will suggest getting a whole slice for 80 cents more which is $5 and change. You can request the pie is warmed up and 1 scoop of ice cream is served in a large styrofoam cup... Way beyond one scoop. Only CASH and CHECKS accepted. 3. This place is opened until 10pm and while we were there the customers were rotating in and out the entire time. Everyone except us, ordered to go. Would highly recommend "to go" ordering at this location. 4. Everyone in the group was highly satisfied with their pies of various flavors. The Dutch Apple pie that I ordered was good. The apples tasted freshly peeled and not canned. The pie crust was tasty but the top crust was not as sweet as I'd like. I admit, I had high hopes. After reading the reviews, my mouth was watering in anticipation of the strawberry-rhubarb pie, but I was disappointed with how dry the crust was and how the filling didn't really seem to fill the pie at all. I thought that if a shop specialized in pie, the crust would be flaky, buttery, and all around delicious. But it wasn't. In fact, I've had better crusts come from a Pillsbury can. My fellow yelpers don't usually lead me astray, but this time they let me down. The teenage girls at the register seemed too preoccupied to acknowledge that I was standing there waiting to order, and I literally stood right in front of them for over 5 minutes before either of them even bothered to look at me.
