OSCAR's LET ME DOWN, this time. My VISIT was poor. I was invited to Oscar's for the first time for my birthday, with 6 adults, great service and hot and fresh food. I wrote a great review. The second time there a friend drove 90 minutes and met me at Oscar's for a late lunch, again. He ordered something previously ordered the last time I was there. When it came, it was like Night and Day. The fish sandwich was dried up and barely matched the size of the bun. My Reuben had a grease puddle in the plate. We ate anyway and he didn't know any better but he did complain to me. After we ate, I ordered a cup of coffee. The server said, "if you are willing to wait, I'll need to put on a pot because we don't have any coffee right now". I said, Yes, that would be nice". While waiting, my guest decided he wanted a beer. When the server returned he ordered the beer. While dining, the manager was vacuuming with the non-electric vacuum cleaner underneath the unoccupied booths close to where we sat. When the coffee came the creamer on the table CURDLED UP my cup. It was spoiled. We waited 10 minutes for her to bring the beer and then waited again for me to get fresh creamers and a new cup of coffee. I've worked in restaurants behind the scene and as a server. I was so EMBARRASSED I suggested Oscar's and am still not sure why we had such a terrible experience this time? We tipped appropriately, anyway when we paid our bill at the table. This is still the worst breakfast place ever. The food quality is McDonald's at best. I swear they just use the cheapest option for everything. It's all margarine and American cheese and had lettuce and white bread. There's absolutely no nothing that taste anything outside of a cafeteria. We went during the week for breakfast. We were seated and then proceeded to watch waitress after waitress walk right by our table! After sitting at our table for 10 minutes, without assistance, we almost walked out!!!!!! FINALLY, we were able to flag someone down who called over the person who was supposed to wait on our table. Ironically, this VERY person had walked right by us at least a half a dozen times....and didn't even bother to stop and wait on us. I think her name was Lynn. She chose to spend more time yacking it up with people, whom she knew, at the front counter. We finally got drinks ordered and our food served. She never once checked on us!!!!!! And then, upon bringing our check wanted to give us coffee even tho we had asked for it during our meal and never got it!!!!! If I could've left a tip for the cook, I might have. But, we don't tip for awful service. The food is mediocre, at best. Find another breakfast venue! This one is sorely overrated! read more

The food: My breaded tenderloin sandwich was seasoned well (better than Big Mama's if you're from the area and can appreciate the comparison). Onion rings were just okay. My husband got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans and he liked all of it. There was ample gravy. Portion sizes were large. I liked the fact that they had multiple diet soda offerings (Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Dr. Pepper and Sprite Zero). We almost skipped dessert because no one offered it and we nearly forgot we wanted to take a piece of pie home. On our way out we passed the pie cooler and remembered, picked up a piece of coconut cream pie and it was good but I've had better. The atmosphere: This is what really brought the score down. In these divisive times I will never understand why an owner/manager would allow (unnecessary) televisions to be turned to Fox News. Most times if I go into a business and they have Fox News on I just turn around and walk back out. By the time I noticed we had already ordered drinks and were starving so I stayed. I feel completely unwelcome in establishments that make a point of broadcasting right wing propaganda. If they didn't want to alienate half of their potential patrons they could tune in to old sitcoms (they've got classic TV pictures on the walls), HGTV, or even sports. Or just get rid of the TV's. I don't go out to eat to sit in front of a TV, most people don't. The service: It was fine. We didn't require much. I would have liked it if they offered to go cups and dessert. But they took our order quickly, the food came out in decent time, and they kept our drinks full. Bottom line: We probably won't go back anytime soon. There are more than enough diner food options that don't require me to sit in front of Fox News. This place was nothing special. read more

I had breakfast at Oscar's with some of my siblings. I had the country eggs Benedict and a couple of my siblings ordered the Denver omelette. The sausage has a slight kick to it which I enjoyed. My wife and I got togo from Oscar's tonight. It was our first time. We had the French dip and the open faced roast beef sandwich. Both were amazing! The mashed potatoes were good, but the gravy excellent. We are here for one more month and will definitely be back to try the pies, which looked so good. The staff were great as well. I finally just moved back to Jeff after leaving here for the Army in 1968. Never been to Oscars. Yesterday I went there for Veterans Day, and they were incredibly nice. I showed up without my Vet ID card and they just took my word that I was a veteran and gave me a free lunch. The service was wonderful, the food was great. Only problem is that at 10:45am on Friday, Veteran's Day Oscar's was so popular, that I had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, I look forward to returning for dinner soon. Even then, they told me they will give me a 15% veteran's discount. Hey folks, servers work hard. The food was excellent. It was nice and clean, the deco was nice. I gave it four stars because of the service. Our waitress came to our table right after we sat down, took our drink order. Came back with our drinks and took our order, and we never saw her again till she brought our check. She spent a lot of time talking to her friends at the counter. Yes, I would definitely go back. I went here at 10:00 on a Saturday morning with my son. It was very busy, but they did a good job getting people in and out. Our server was friendly and we didn't have to wait very long for our food. The portion size for my breakfast burrito was very generous and we definitely didn't leave hungry! My son's breakfast plate was standard but good. The atmosphere in here is great, the food was good, and speed of service was good too. The only thing missing was taste of the food- just tasted bland, everyday, nothing that I'd call truly "unique." Three of us stopped in for a Sunday Brrakfast at 9:30am. There was standing room only for waiting patrons. The greeter told us it would be 25 minutes but we were seated in 15. It's definitely a family diner with a mix of old timers and young families. Service and food were equally good. Service was mostly young high school/college girls. Crispy hash browns were great covered with cheese & gravy. Pancakes were fluffy but the cheap syrup didn't do them any favors. My highlight was the omelette Florentine. It was fluffy w/spinach, bacon bits and peppers with a good amount of gooey cheese. The portions are more than enough. The three of us ate for $32+ tip. I don't understand why people rave about this place. First, I got my plate within five minutes of ordering. To me that's very suspicious. Because I got chicken fried steak for breakfast and that always takes awhile. Then I figured out why. It was out of a box. Both my ex-wives were in the restaurant business and I know machine made food when I see it and that was not hand breaded. It was from a box of frozen ones. The eggs were ok. But the hashbrowns... were a crime against hashbrowns. Burnt on the outside, wet, and almost cold in the middle. Clearly cooked from frozen and cooked way too hot, too fast. No salt, no pepper. No seasoning of any kind. So I added salt, pepper, gravy, _and_ my eggs to them and _still_ couldn't finish them. They were terrible. I won't go back. read more
