I went to this Indian place a couple of times and it was superb but quite expensive looking at the prices on the menu. Plates are from $17 to $19 for meat entrees! The only thing I come here for is the vegetable or chicken samosas which comes in 2! The vegetable samosas are $5 for 2 while the chicken one is $10 for 2! I think it is a pretty substantial increase from $5 to $10 if you go from vegetable to chicken! I ordered the vegetable samosas and they were very nice to provide paper plates and napkins to eat them. The vegetable samosas were pretty greasy so that's why it was packaged in a grease paper bag and I can taste the grounded potatoes and peas that made it very delicious. The samosa skin thickness is pretty thick and not too thin so none of the stuffing came spilling out. It came with 3 dipping sauces and they are the Hari (Green) Chutney (sweet), Imli (Tamarind) Chutney (tangy, smooth, red brown), Indian onion chutney (spicy). My personal favorite is the onion chutney because it tasted pretty spicy to add that extra kick. Wish the samosas were bigger because 2 of them didn't really fill me that much. The ambience of the place is pretty chill and casual. No music in the background and there's free water on the counter for people to grab. They also have a sign of all the Indian spices and herbs and their nutritional benefits. Plenty of tables and chairs there to choose from.

Lunch special (vegetarian choices)

Good food but a bit overpriced for the portion. I had their lunch "Feast", and since I am vegetarian, instead of a chicken choice, I asked for two veggies (mushroom bhaji and sarson ka saag). When the waitress asked if I wanted rice or naan or both, I chose only rice, which I came to regret, as the portions were quite small, and I was still hungry after wiping clean the entire plate. There was a good lunch crowd, all the seats were taken, and an older gentleman vacated a bar stool next to the serving counter. He sat on the other bar stool to work on his laptop. Later he asked me how I liked my food - I realized he was the owner of the restaurant. Seeing his turban, I asked him if he was Sikh? Yes he was - then he must be a vegetarian too (no wonder the veggie dishes tasted so good!); and also like me, a meat-cooking vegetarian :-). All in all, I liked the food, but wished for a better portion.

Solid Indian food at saffron thread and friendly service. Both chicken dishes i bought had tender chicken with good flavor to satisfy my Indian food craving. I thought the saag paneer and other vegetable dish that I had could've used more flavor though and that there was not much spice in the dishes which is what takes away a star for me. Solid indian food to satisfy your craving though!

I have not eaten at Saffron Thread in over three ( 3 ) years (way before the pandemic) and just wanted to try something new, yet, still old.  A pity life cannot be as good after stopping for a period of time.  The spinach was silky with pieces of tofu tasting delightful having the same Indian nuances as years gone by.  The chicken tikka masala was just as I remembered  -   Creamy with all of that curry goodness circling throughout my mouth.  Of course, the naan was soft, delicate, and mouth watering when dipped and soaked in both the spinach and chicken masala sauces. Although I understand increased prices, I was confused about the naan's decreased size?  When I requested the naan be placed inside the container's empty square section, I was told "No, it can't be done.  It cannot fit."  WRONG!!, more foil was used / wasted to wrap this SMALL naan. This was definitely an expensive lunch for $11.00 / three ( 3 ) pictured menu selections  (See Attached).  I now remember why it was over three ( 3 ) ago eating at Saffron Thread because the food was so fabulous!  If you can afford to splurge, get their mango lassi to accompany your meal. It will be a treat for your tastebuds.

A simple lunch spot between FIDI and Tribeca, this place was a pleasant surprise. The person behind the counter was helpful. She pointed out that biryani was fried rice, when i was staring at the menu looking for chicken n' rice for lunch. It had the right amount of spice to it. Not a cheap lunch, but the serving size allowed me to take home leftovers to stretch it for another lunch the next day. This is one of those things that taste just as good, if not better, the next day. My wife's tikka was tasty too.

Had this catered into work today. There was only basic Indian food. We had Saag Paneer, Vegetable Samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Rogan Josh, Naan, Rice Pulao, and Chana Masala. Overall all of it was pretty standard and nothing really all that flavorful or amazing. However, I'd say they gave us what was probably the best veggie samosa I've ever had, which is what redeems this to a 3-star rating. Crispy where it counts and delicious otherwise. I also liked the consistency of the naan as well. Cooked to almost perfection. Wish it had more bitter or flavor.

$9 lunch special plus tax Includes meat, veggies, lentils with rice and nan. Mmmm, talk about a sweet deal in the heart to TriBeCa/FiDi. I seriously loved the food here, it was delicious! I got the chicken (either garlic or ginger I don't remember) but it was delicious. It wasn't spicy but very flavorful. The Channah was soft and soooo goooood. I also got some sort of mushrooms as my veggies, delish! My Bengali friends loved it also and said it tasted like home-cooked food. They got the chicken tikka masala, mmmm gooooodnessss. I didn't really enjoy the nan mostly because I've grown accustom to roti made the carribean way however, it was good and very flaky. Def a must try! The lunch special cannot be beat. This is more of a to-go place however there is seating available if you're in the area or having a quick lunch. Delicious, cheap and filling.

The food wasn't out of the world good, but combined with ambiance, friendly customer service from staff, and decent food after having so many bad experiences, we enjoyed our dining experience. I would recommend this place to others who are looking for a decent breakfast/lunch spot that takes no more than 15mins to serve your food. The place is packed so expect to wait a while or make reservations ahead of time. Maybe it was the lady's first day on the job. Everyone seemed busy but she looked lost that day, didn't really know what to do. When we asked for our coffee she had to go confirm with someone as if the ticket wasn't already sitting in front of her. if the management team can train her better, it will improve customers' experiences.

The breakfast menu has about four options, and when I asked the server what was gluten-free, she immediately let me know there were two choices. I ordered the eggs any style with potato hash, and she confirmed they have a gluten-free toaster. The toast even arrived with a gluten-free pick in it, and the food was excellent. We loved it so much we ate there for lunch later that day. They clearly label gluten-free items right on the menu. Since it was packed and we didn't have a reservation, we had to sit at the bar, which still worked out great. We shared the spinach and artichoke dip, which also came out with a gluten-free pick. They even have gluten-free beers and ciders listed on the menu, and I really enjoyed the Original Sin cider. For my main course, I ordered the Impossible burger with cheese on a gluten-free bun, and I was thrilled to find out their fries are made in a dedicated fryer. There was a brief moment when I took the pick out and a server panicked, saying "oh no, it's not gluten-free," but I let him know I had already removed the stick. Overall, the food and service were fantastic, and I would highly recommend it!

For it being our first time, we were a little confused with the ordering process, and they were so busy that it took a while to be acknowledged. There were kiosks to place the order, but we couldn't find a place to request special requirements, so we had to figure out how we could order at the register amongst the slew of other customers. Our order for 2 bacon egg and cheeses were called with a biscoff iced latte and we were excited at first. But when we opened the sandwiches our bacon was just 3, maybe 4 fatty pieces when we specifically asked for crispy bacon. My husband settled for his, but I requested a reorder where they corrected the bacon issue, and even put more slices. Besides that snafu, I was excited for my latte, but was also underwhelmed by the taste. I assumed since it was a biscoff cookie latte (which I love) that it would be sweeter... The establishment was nice, and there were so many selections, so we would give it another try before writing it off completely.

It would be nice if any of the signs or tags showed that information. Anyway, he rang something up again, which was fine but then he said something about refunding it, but the receipt he showed was for two sodas. A refund was unnecessary and nothing we asked for. In any event, we didn't eat the pizza. And if for some reason my charge did not go through (although it shows in my Google Pay), I'm happy to pay for the slice that I threw away. The people who work there seem nice enough and it's good that there is a gluten free option for people. Some gluten free food is pretty good but this was very dry and lacked flavor. I don't know what the cheese was but it had a powdery texture. But I'm not a gluten free expert so all I know is that this did not taste good to me. If you have a gluten free diet, give this place a shot. I wish them the best.

Last year, I was at Nothing Really Matters, the bar next door, with a group of friends. Someone ordered pizza, and I had no idea where it came from. I didn't realize reservations were recommended, but thankfully Ariel, the host, was able to fit us in. Ariel was fantastic - he was friendly, welcoming, and so accommodating despite us showing up without a reservation. Ariel provided excellent service from the moment we walked in until we left. I didn't take any photos, which I now regret, because their pepperoni pizza was salty, addictive, and just really, really good.
