This is the worst I have ever seen. She did not even wash her face, barely trimmed her nails, and decided to give a low cut without my permission. We clearly asked for a clean up and to leave her pony tail long. I paid for a full groom only to receive subpar service. Called to speak with the old owner David and was advised all he can do is apologize and bring her back tomorrow to see what could be done. As a business owner myself this is unacceptable. Body clean but face dirty and stinks. If you are going here I would suggest you watch who is cutting your furbaby or ask for credentials because clearly this person has no skilled training and I am stuck with paying for full groom only to receive 1/2 the service. Over 10 years a customer and this is what I get. If this is the changes happening with a new owner in place BEWARE because I am pretty sure she will not allow her daughter to take the hit she deserves for this.!!!

Came here thanks…read moreto a dog recommendation website (www.bringfido.com) and wow - this place is beyond "the best place to bring a dog!!" that I've ever seen, in my one week of dog ownership. Oh my goodness, the amount of treats and chew toys and atmosphere and let's face it, the love love love love the staff put on my puppy. Oh - and the visitors too!! I wish we lived here, we would visit weekly, very easily. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. It would be: 1 star for awesome staff + 1 star for awesome dog treats + 1 star for how much everyone loved my puppy + 1 star for the resident cat + 1 star for oh-my-gosh-they-have-doggy-raincoats + 1 star for doggie cookies + 1 star for how clean they are + 1 star for how smart the employees are + 1 star for how they taught me about raw feeding + 1 star for how they taught me that my veterinarian pet food (for my cats) is not ok. Wow - that's 10 stars, and it still doesn't feel like enough stars. Let's just say, I want to come to Williamsburg more just so I can visit this store as my sweet Cavalier King Charles Spaniel grows up. She LIT UP smelling all the wonderful treats in the store, then gobbled the ones I let her eat in the car for being such a good girl later that day. She is a sweetheart, and I know she wishes we lived above this shop. I love the "1 ingredient dog chews." Wow. Those are great. She is enjoying all of them!!!

I stopped in primarily to view the cat room. I had heard about this store from the Virginia Cat…read moreFestival last fall, and was curious to check them out while in the area. Before entering the cat area, a friendly worker had us sign electronic waivers. There were plenty of places to sit and toys to play with the cats from Heritage. I will say it wasn't my favorite cat room, however, as it didn't feel ventilated at all and it smelled strongly. I think perhaps if they add some air flow or clean the litter boxes more often that could help. The cats themselves were cute and I was very tempted to adopt Loodles, specifically! Precious girl. Once I was finished in the cat area, I stepped back into the shop and browsed. I saw a cute treat dispenser, so I purchased that along with a catit fountain. I haven't tried the fountain yet, but I did notice that it was $8 cheaper than I paid at other retailers, so that was pretty disappointing. I'm just chalking it up to supporting a small business. Hopefully the cats like it, as they ignored the last fountain I purchased! My orange does love the treat dispenser and has largely figured it out, so that's been a success. They also had some cute toys, and I bought a little birthday cake toy that I gave to one of my cats on his birthday about a week back. He's still playing with it, so that's a good sign! Overall, I think this is a great space that could be excellent with a few tweaks. I appreciate what they do to help pets.

There are several vendors inside a pet store, you heard me! It's got that old people/fish smell, but it's more decent than stinky. I looked at some random video games they had amongst a sea of "antiques" (junk), only to see that they were 20 bucks cheaper if I bought them online. I decided I would ride around town on my bike and leave my car in the giant lot with just my car. When I left there was a note on my car that said I had to ask to park there, and it was for patrons only. Well, I bought something, so I have permission and I was in their store, so wtf lady? They don't need my money! The best part was that you could read that note in a fake shore-politeness, almost like professor Umbridge. Yup, I didn't need to park there... She needed a cone for her head and we were driving down to Petco, but decided to give the small pet business a phone call to see if they had the cone and if they were open. The lady on the phone was very nice including explaining dog neck size. I have a big dog and very often don't find stuff in her size. They closed in 10 min I was 15 min away. She very nicely said that they would be there after closing so I could run in. I went in with a picture on my cell phone so I could show her what size my dog was. But she had all the sizes waiting for me at the front and I could try to see what would fit her, without having to dig around. $24 for an XL cone. Great price and very nice person. I ended up leaving my phone there because of me pulling it out to show how big my dog was. We called it and they picked up, we told them we would be there tomorrow to pick it up but was told VERY nicely that if we ran they would stay these so I could get it. THANK YOU GUYS, I needed it for work this morning. And thank you to the young lady who get stuck waiting in for me. I know you wanted to go home 20 min earlier and again THANK YOU for sticking behind so I could get it. We never liked buying from PetCo anyways. Prices were always so high and they never really have what I need. I would advise you to give whatever small business you need something from a quick call to make sure they have it on hand. So you don't get mad if you get there and they don't have whatever it is. We had been driving to Oyster Point to go to Care-alot. But now we have a new pet store. We happened upon this pet store while out and about, thinking we might find some natural perches…read morefor our parakeets. We ended up taking home two hamsters. We received a fairly good deal on the hamsters and accessories, which we appreciated. Here's the thing though...the young employees really need to educate themselves on some of these small pets. Two hamsters shouldn't reside in the same habitat, they do not require a "friend" and are solo creatures. They don't actually "like to climb", rather when the habitat is too small, they will climb to try and escape out of frustration, as well as chew on the bars (harmful). We are housing the two hamsters in separate DIY habitats that are over 4 feet in length. Hamsters are small but require a large square-inches habitat with lots and lots of enrichment. We also discovered once home that these were not same-sex, we were told that they are females but one is definitely a boy. I pin this error on the lack of supervision of the store's hamster habitat, one side with females and the other side with males. Kids are in there handling the hamsters and may be distracted by all the cuteness and put one back on the opposite side. Having the hamsters handled frequently is probably not the worst thing, as these are sweet and friendly little hamsters and they love being handled, but definitely they need more forethought in housing them in completely separate areas so there is no mix-up and no one takes home a pregnant female (female hamsters go into heat every 4 days). This all being said....the store has a lot of small exotic pets (birds, spiders, snakes, fish), it was about as clean as I would expect it to be with two young people working there on a Saturday afternoon. Thankfully the animals we saw looked healthy.

I should have listened to the reviews and looked for another store…read more I have been looking for a parrot to bring into the family for a while. I've done plenty of research online, but this was my first time going to look at birds in person. Seeing this was a family run business, I decided to bring my business here rather than a big box store. Big mistake. Almost everyone working seemed to be stuck up teenagers and young adults. My family was in the store for about 30 min and not a single employee offered any assistance. Not even a simple hello. The bird section was absolute chaos. There's TONS of birds jammed into a small corner of the store which seems to be, by far, their most popular animal. The aisles are cramped and it's hard to hear anything with all the birds chirping away. There were 2 employees feeding/ tending to birds. They were pretty much ignoring everyone. I tried to ask a few questions about different species, yet I felt like an annoyance to them.. then I simply got told, if you're new to birds, just get a cockatiel. The guy wouldn't really give any information on any of the other species. I'm trying to make sure I have everything I need in my home before buying a bird, but it seems like they'd rather you just pay $$ now and quit bothering them. There's a bunch of signs up saying NO PICTURES everywhere. It felt like a prison with the wide variety of threatening signs all over the place. I did notice the cages seemed very over priced. An A&E cage I saw on Chewy for $300 was marked up to like $700 in there. The cockatiels were a couple hundred dollars more than Pet Smart. I wanted to avoid going to somewhere like Pet Smart or Petco to get a pet bird, but after this experience, I'll just take my business there. At least they have employees that seem like they care about helping customers. It's a shame to see a local business that can't provide better service than corporate big box stores. If it wasn't for your exorbitant prices, I suspect you'd be out of business by now.
