One star is too generous. I'll start by saying that the place is disgusting. Hair everywhere and trash. Doesn't look like they ever clean and I came when they opened that day. They cut my poor baby up and he was left absolutely in pain and traumatized from the whole experience. On top of that they completely butchered his hair and left random bald spots everywhere. They did not cut my dog like I asked them too and he looks terrible. $65 for something a 5 year old looks like they did. He has cuts all over his body even his face. Please don't take your dogs here. This has to be nicest group of people. They were so informative during our consultation and asked all the questions to know what we wanted. When I returned- It looked like I had brand new puppies. Only 1 down side - I did't notice when I was there because I was so excited by the overall transformation - my lighter dog Calli had her face cut extremely low with no hair down the center of her nose at all. I love this place! My standard poodle puppy gets the best care every time we come. Having a poodle means that my pup needs a lot of maintenance. The staff here is caring and loves my little guy. They always do an amazing job - they even let me know that he was showing signs of an ear infection and that led me to act fast to get him some help (new fur mom, I never know what's going on). Thunder always has a beautiful coat, fresh scent, and clean look when he leaves here. He loves the friendly, knowledgeable staff. Plus, when I'm late with picking him up, they always understand. They have mixed up the appointment schedules many times and just show up out of nowhere even when my dog was just groomed a few weeks ago and wasn't due for another grooming. They dont even keep a record of the dog that is supposed to get groomed so they show up and I get a call at work asking which dogs get groomed. The groomer shows up several hours after they were supposed to come and didn't even bother to call to let us know they were running late. And now the last nail in the coffin is on two occasions they forgot to put my dogs collar back on and don't even return them even when the groomer and manager said they would drop them off. Very disappointed. Had my shih-tzu and lab groomed yesterday. My little dog has cuts all over her mouth and razor scratches all over her neck. She has no more whiskers and keeps rubbing her face all over everyone while whining. Meanwhile, my black lab was shaking tremendously after the mobile grooming unit left our house. I do not use critter cleaners but my neighbor across the street does and the generator on the trailer is SO LOUD and I am in my house across the street, I cannot imagine how loud it is for the poor animals in the trailer. I have to turn the tv or radio way up to attempt to drown it out. Don't torture your fur babes with having to listen to that extremely loud generator. There are other mobile services that are MUCH quieter. read more

One of the workers dogs was playing in the street (Mercury) myself and 2 others were making sure the dog stayed safe. Eventually the dog walked into this business, when we went inside and asked if they had a yellow lab the worker lady said yes. And we told her that her dog was playing in the street. And she said "he pushed open the gate, but he came back." She was not at all concerned that her dog was literally in the middle of Mercury (4 lanes each way). I needed to find a new place to take my dog and they accepted walk-ins so I thought I would try them out, but, upon entering the establishment the first thing I noticed was a container full of cigarette butts on the front porch, okay, no biggie, BUT THEN as soon as you walk into the place you get hit with an overwhelming power of cigarette smoke. It made gag a little upon entering. Then upon looking at the place further I noticed the floor completely covered in animal hair and two husky puppies playing and chewing on the fur that was on the ground. Completely disgusting! I will admit they did a wonderful job on my dogs hair cut and I didn't notice any scaring on him, unlike the last place I took him to, but, for a professional establishment they should be sweeping up after each dog and definitely NOT be smoking inside or so near the place of business. You couldn't even smell that there were dogs in there just cigarettes. I will NOT be bringing my dog over here again. I should have asked to see the back room where they keep the dogs that are waiting to be groomed. I can only imagine what that room must have looked like. The only reason I'm even giving them a score over one star is because my dog did still look good at least and they were friendly. I suggest you do a better job at representing your business and refrain from smoking. It's disgusting!!! I need to add on here that my dog was feeling off the next day and pooped in the house three times. I don't know if they fed him anything, but, I know I didn't give him anything different so I can only guess it was from taking him here. There are drugs being done in and out of the shop as well as the mobile grooming van. She does not keep her appointment times as promised. There has been times where they didn't even show up. When confronted about the fact that appointments are not getting kept like they're supposed to she told me it wasn't her fault that she can't keep groomers. I've been here for the past six weeks from New Jersey. I've been trying to find groomers that I and my dog can trust and that also do a good job. I finally found critter cleaners give them a call and went to drop my dog off the next day. I was told that she'd be ready by 2:30 I didn't hear anything so I went there at 2:45 and I was told she'd be ready at 4 because they have been swamped at that point I was a little disappointed and a little nervous hoping everything was okay and that my dog will come out okay and not look like a rush job. in the meantime I went and did a little shopping came back soon as I pulled up the gave me a call I went inside and was so delighted to see how my dog came out how well she smelt and her attitude after. This will be my new groomer! I don't remember the last time I dog at went so long without being groomed. I've taken my dog to numerous groomers and I've gotta say, Critter Cleaners hands down does the best job with her. I'm always very pleased with how she looks and the added bows they put on her are always so adorable!!! The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because the last time I took her in, they must have cut one of her nails a bit short and it was bleeding (I wasn't aware of it when I picked her up). No big deal to me - she was fine and it didn't bother her, but after putting her in my backseat and driving home, my back seat had blood all over the seats from her running around. Luckily I have leather seats so I was able to wipe it all up, just wish they would have given me a heads up so I could have thrown a blanket down. They may not have realized she was bleeding so I'm not upset. I still will be a frequent customer with them and I will support them as a small business. read more

We were looking for a new groomer since our go to closed down. This groomer came highly recommended from multiple sites when we searched. I called earlier this week and scheduled an appointment for my dog to get both a bath and haircut at 1100. When I dropped him off and told them exactly what I wanted, they stated he would be ready for pickup in the afternoon. When he wasn't ready by 5, I drove from Williamsburg so I could make it there before they closed. He wasn't ready when I got there and had barely gotten a bath. They couldn't recall the instructions on what we had given them regarding his hair even though I was very specific and watched them write it down. As we waited another 30 minutes for him in the car, we noticed through the window one of the workers that was servicing the dogs in the back smoking while caring for the animals. After the second time of witnessing this, we confronted them only for them to lie to our faces saying she was holding a hose." Our dog came to us smelling like A 1960s woman's hair stale cigarettes. and hairspray). This is completely unacceptable and the lack of integrity is disgusting. Sooooo if i read these reviews before i went to this place i would have never gone here. BUT thank GOD I didnt read them! Lol this place is reasonable pricing alot better than horrible PetSmart where they WILL leave your dog bleeding or bald in spots. I have been going to them for almost a year I dont even live in this area I live in North Carolina and I come all the way in VA to get my dog groomed by them. Usually my dog has matts and i go to the groomer and they tell me they have to shave her down....not with them they also have a schnauzer so they know how i want my mini schnauzer cut and i love they dont have to shave her. I have taken my dogs here a few times but this last time really did me in. First off, I do this every single time- I give a picture and description of what I want my yorkies to look like, and I get them back with the same haircut and nothing of what I ask and absolutely paid for. Secondly, I get my little one back yesterday and everything seemed fine until I got home. I was preparing for my sons party and there was blood all over my dining room floor. I find my dog and her paw was covered in blood. I wash it off to find her nail cut way past the point it should be and blood just running out of it. Yes, accidents happen but why wasn't I notified? Unless they just don't care about injuring our pups and not notifying the owners of their screw up. What a waste of money, honestly. A butchered haircut and an injury that could have been tended to right away if they had mentioned it. This is a place I would never recommend to anyone. read more

They have great reviews which is why I took my two Shih Tzu puppies there to get their face feet and fannie. I give my puppies baths every week, which includes shampoo, conditioner and a thorough blow out. I was too nervous to clip their nails and clean their ears so I took them to a professional, so I thought. When I picked them up, I was so disappointed. Their nails were clipped but very sharp so I had to file them when I got home, I lifted their ears and they had not been cleaned. I had to clean up in between their eyes because the hair was not cut evenly. I also had to clean up around their Fannie. For 110.00 I should not have had to do anything to them. I left so upset with the services provided. Putting a bow on their heads did not impress me because I put bows in their hair all the time. I will be learning how to groom them myself at this point. Their coat was tangled when I brushed them out myself. I called my friend who recommended them and showed her, even she said, "they look the same, what did they do?" I rewashed and conditioned my puppies so their coat would be soft like it should be. I will say the staff is friendly but no one asked if i was satisfied before swiping that card. Simply handed me my babies and that was that. Overpriced and if you have a pair of shears, you can do it yourself. I didn't complain because In my opinion it looked like whoever took care of my girls didn't know what they were doing or just smacked a bow on them and sent them on their way. I didn't want to have them do a trial and error session on my babies. So this groomer is a no for me. $110.00 down the drain. Never again. read more

I wish I could give this place negative 5 stars. I called on a Monday to see if I could schedule an appointment for my dog. I was told "sure come on in. Walk ins are from 8-11" ok, cool! I pull up the next day and before I even walk in a lady comes outside and ask if I had an appointment. I explained to her that I called yesterday to ask if I could bring my dog in today. She then tried to tell me that they were closed yesterday and then remembers that yesterday was Monday (I'm assuming the drugs she took the night before has her days off) so then she explains that they are super swamped (which I know is a lie because they opened at 0830 and I literally showed up at 0900 also why aren't you allowing me to walk in? Why are you meeting me at my car to explain this?) and they can take my dog but he would be there all day till like 6 or 7 "which wouldn't be fair to my dog" ummmm no ma'am! What isn't fair to my dog as well as myself is that you're very unprofessional and I woke my infant up to get dressed just to bring my dog here at the time I was told to bring him the day before.
