When this store first opened in Yorktown i was so excited! At first the staff seemed very friendly and knowledgeable. However, the animals seem stressed, the fish department looks awful. They have a great store, selection and prices. But the care and husbandry of the animals is sub par. The last time I went in I was so close to impulse buying a savanna monitor just because they were over crowded, also not to mention the 3 dead inside of the cage. This is probably the reason for the decent prices on these animals. you may not get a healthy animal buying from here. it's a nice shop with all of your needs, if you do buy animals from here just know you are definitely giving it a better home. Another business that lost my business because they want to harass their customers about wearing a face diaper. This is the first pet store i have been in that harassed me about this. All other ones allow you to come as you wish. They could be taking other measures like Kroger, for instance, to deal with this obvious plandemic, but they would rather harass customers and lose them I guess. I tried to give one of the employees some other alternative measure tips but she wouldn't even listen or take it into consideration. Another store discriminating against people with disabilities. It's ashamed because I was actually going to be a lifelong customer here... Not anymore! read more

This pet store is a great place to go for all types of reptile needs. The owner of the store is extremely knowledgeable but very busy, as he runs several locations and also does many different reptile conventions (Exoticon). My son picked up a sand boa from this store and she is a finicky eater, and hides all the time under the sand, but that's what that breed does in general. I love the selection of reptiles the store has and so does my son. And the two birds by the entrance are a trip. The macaw seems to get upset if you don't wave at it, which is kind of funny, and the cockatoo is nice. Neither bird is usually accessible to the public but occasionally the cockatoo is by the register. It let me pet it and wanted to climb up my arm. The staff does stay pretty busy due to the sheer number of animals they have to care for. (I believe the owner told me he has more than 1,000 snakes in the back that he breeds and deals). So as long as you like reptiles, and you aren't in a super big hurry to go someplace else, you should be good. I can't comment on the critters and pet food for dogs/cats, fish, etc, because we're never there to look at or buy those things. read more

I went in to Petzone today to look for toys for my ferrets. I noticed they were keeping ferrets, rabbits, and guinea pigs in big metal bins on the floor. The bins were dirty and covered in flies. The animals were not given adequate food or enrichment. They also keep snakes and lizards stored in small plastic containers, and large pythons in tiny terrariums. I was disgusted to say the least. If this place cannot adequately house their animals, they should not be selling them. read more

Baught a ball python from them back in june he would not eat and has gotten worse would only slowly put on weight with assist feeding today he had a vet appointment and found he has inclusion body disease so ultimately any snake they have in the store most likely also has this... its a slow killing disease so a shit ton of vet bills one dead snake... thanks for nothing and a dead baby... read more

I visited this store yesterday for the first time. The first thing I saw was a small pin for an albino rabbit. Its paws were yellow from obviously living in its own pee. Next to the rabbit in another separate small pin was a ferret that was crawling around in a dirty play tunnel. There was a large selection of fish, reptiles, and rodents... All of which were kept in cloudy glass tanks. They have a yellow boa for sale that is about 5-6 feet long that is kept in such a small tank. It looked like it could hardly move if it wanted. I had to leave a review of this place because I felt so bad for the animals kept at this dirty, cramped store. read more

This place is great! They've really expanded their store from what it used to be. The reviews on here don't really do it justice so I wouldn't let that stray you from visiting the store. It's definitely worth a visit. I get a lot of my freshwater fish, plants, and driftwood from here. I would definitely recommend. read more

When I first walked into this place I thought it was the cutest little pet shop. They seemed to care about their animals and even had a cute little (well not very little) tortoise walking around. Upon closer look especially after they expanded the store, you would see the abuse their poor little animals are experiencing. First of all, their rabbits, ferrets, and guinea pigs are all in small, FILTHY metal bins with literal flies around them. They seriously dont look like they have been cleaned in weeks and are WAYY too small for ANY of the listed animals. They are seriously lacking enrichment and have little to no toys or anything for them to do. Their smaller rodents like hamsters, rats, mice, degus, etc, are living in tiny glass boxes with WIRE WHEELS!! You can even see said wheels on their instagram. All of the fish look like they are on their death bed. They got rid of the tortoise which seemed to be the only animal receiving somewhat proper care being that it attracted majority of their customers. (I dont know too much about tortoises Im mostly educated in rodents). Anyways I didnt even look at the reptiles but im pretty sure you can just scroll through the reviews and someone probably wrote about their terrible reptile husbandry as well. I hope they take some of these reviews into consideration and do better. If not for the customers, for their poor little animals. :( read more

Not to mention, I'm disabled myself, and VERY happy that they enforce the mask mandate contrary to some other reviews! Happened awhile ago but a friend just had a similar experience so I thought I would share. Multiple years ago now I went to purchase fish from here and I knew absolutely nothing about them, I told the employees I was brand new to fish and they assured me they knew plenty and could help me get set up as a starter. Yet, they sold me one type of fish but told me it was a different kind, told me the incorrect size tank for them, recommended the wrong food for them, and suggested I get a snail from them to "clean my tank" and I ended up with 4 dead fish in a month, and about a million snail babies taking over the tank. It had been so long since I had been that last summer I asked my boyfriend to pick up a cat bed for our new kitten, he went here and was checking out in a rush he thought the woman said $25 when in reality it was $45, when he looked at his receipt and realized how much it had cost, he went back less than an hour later to return it, with tags still on. They refused to accept the return because of Covid. Frustrating but since we took covid very seriously we let it slide. A couple of days later the new kitten needed different food so I called pet zone to check and see if they had the food in stock before going up there to prevent unnecessary exposure to the public (COVID) and the employee that I spoke to assured me that she checked and that it was in stock. 10 minutes later my boyfriend gets there to buy some and there is none in stock, he asked the employee about it, and she tells him to his face that she didn't feel like checking so she didn't actually check when I called. I went in a few days later to get a tool to help train cats (because all other pet stores nearby were out of stock) and I spoke to the manager about our previous experiences, not only did she not care but she actually defended the employee that lied to us about doing her job by saying "well she probably thought you just meant you wanted that brand, not a specific one", which would be difficult because I specified multiple times and the employee herself had already told him she never checked. To top it all off that day their system happened to be down so they would only accept cash, which I had to leave and get, and didn't offer any kind of discount on the training tool I purchased. All of this is made worse by the sad shape a lot of the animals they had were in, half dead fish, dirty habitats, etc. As someone who works in customer service I was shocked by the blatant disregard the manager had for our multiple bad experiences and I, along with everyone else I know that has shopped here, have now taken our business elsewhere because apparently my experiences are not unique here. read more

They've recently moved into a larger store making it really convenient because they're the only pet store in Yorktown and now they carry everything we need. You can tell they're still in the process of organizing so checking out sometimes takes longer than expected but it seems the care for the animals has improved. There are two large birds in the store that stay out but aren't the friendliest and the tortoise now has it's own area. Overall I'm impressed. the staff is always friendly and helpful,if one doesn't have the answer I need they will direct me to a person who does. read more
