I ordered a bouquet of pastel flowers (the standard size on the website is attached) to thank my previous manager since I have recently switched hospitals. What she received is absolutely nothing like the website and to add insult to injury is John's response to my call about the flowers falling short. As you can clearly see in the photos, John kept providing a multitude of excuses including; some pastel flowers were not available and were substituted as stated in their policy, some flowers may have shifted during delivery and how on their website images always show the flowers bunched up on one side. He said he could bunch them together so it looked tighter but that is just him offering to put a rubber band at the bottom. Regardless if some flowers were unavailable, it is clearly evident the number of flowers used was too little, the substituted flowers do not match the title/theme of the bouquet which is pastel, and no amount of flowers shifting in transit can make up for the fact they used too little flowers in the bouquet. Then he interrupted me to say I was rambling as if I did not have the right to be upset. I paid for a service and John's company failed to meet expectations and instead of recognizing their faults he decides to insult me. He asked me to send him an email and I have yet to receive a response. As a healthcare worker, I am embarrassed to have my old coworker think I would thank her for all the kindness this past year with a measly bouquet that looks like it was picked from my backyard. John, you can choose to make up whatever lie you want to defend yourself but the fact of the matter is you failed to create a bouquet to even appear similar to what you advertise online. read more

Ordered flowers for wake this past week, I prefer to send white roses in a vase so I called directly to see if the florist had them. I also like to use a local florist always. Sue was very helpful checking on my requests. My initial request wasn't available. but John recommended Yellow roses with red tips. I want to note that every person who was looking at the flowers were making comments on how gorgeous these flowers were. They were STUNNING. I came in wanting to order flowers for Mother's Day. Since we're still in the middle of a pandemic, I wanted to support a local florist instead of buying from the grocery store. I immediately had a bad feeling as soon as I came in. One of the employees wasn't wearing a mask despite requiring customers to wear them. The employees were also removing brown and wilted petals from roses. The pre-arranged flowers on display looked subpar to me so nothing really caught my eye. They asked me if I had something in mind but told them my mother likes bright flowers but nothing specific. I've never ordered from a florist before so I asked about pricing to get an idea and the owner said the lowest starts at $25. I said that I could go higher than that. I had pictures saved and showed it and he said that was at least $200. I said that it didn't have to be those specific flowers, it was just a general idea. He said "That's $18 a stem." So instead of helping me figure out something that would work within my budget, it seemed as if he just assumed I was a cheapskate or some broke bitch even though I said I could go higher than $25. As the other low rated reviews state, the owner truly had a distasteful attitude and was extremely condescending and unprofessional. We worked with John at A Personal Touch for our wedding at Nanina's in the Park, and would highly recommend him to anyone. John went above and beyond to deliver our vision. When I first met with him, I did not know what I was looking for. I told him I wanted something less formal and little more rustic. Immediately, John gave me some ideas for lantern/flower centerpieces with lots of greenery, with matching flower arrangements for my girls. On the day of my wedding, I was blown away by the arrangements. They were truly stunning. They were elegant but not formal and stuffy. John gave put candles into the lanterns which made the entire room glow. It was beautiful. John is an artist and he knew what I wanted even when I didn't. Last week I went to Personal Touch with my aunt and Uncle. We walk in and we were greeted, asked what they could help us with, so my aunt tells them that we just left the funeral home and need to get flowers for a wake. She then proceeded to tell them that we want to it to say "loving dad" and "loving pop pop". ( so by default , florist can assume that we are either the children of, or the grandchildren of someone that has passed away. ) my aunt and uncle are doing all the talking and I am standing there is a daze because I just lost my grandfather and I had only slept for 3 hours that night . So the owner looks at me and says "what's wrong with you ?" And I replied that I was exhausted. So without skipping a beat he says "well if your exhausted at your age you have something wrong with you." And I guess the owner can tell by the look on my face that what he said was wrong , but there was no apology. Let me start off by saying , I have never in my life dealt with someone so boorishly insensitive after just being told that someone's family member has passed away. The cavalier attitude that was presented from the second we stepped into the store was completely and utterly disgusting. Also, I understand that we went into get flowers the Thursday before Easter, so there were probably a lot of orders. The owner really made it seem like we were inconveniencing him with the fact that we needed flowers for my grandfathers funeral. I can promise that he will not be feeling inconvenienced going forward because I will never order flowers from this place again. I will also make sure that my family and friends are well aware of this situation so they do not inconvenience the owner. As a life long Nutley resident , I have made orders and received orders from Personal Touch, and I will never put another penny into that business. I will give credit where credit is due, the flowers were very pretty, and the owner did end up giving us one free rose and sunflower after realizing that he pissed me off. On that note, I guess if your looking for nice flowers, and a personal touch of "we're the only business in town attitude" to go with it, this is the place to go buy flowers. read more

I called in an order for my parents 50th anniversary. The girl I dealt with was very pleasant. I had asked here if this business offered a military discount and she told me that she would have to ask. The owner got on the phone and explained that he does give a discount but their policy was that I had to be there in person so I could present them with my military identification. I asked if I could text a photo of it (I was trying to prepare for the anniversary so I didn't have time to go down to the store). He told me that wasn't satisfactory and needed to be there. I did NOT have a problem with this policy and I think it is perfectly fair. What I DID have a problem with is this guy's attitude!!!!! He was down right condescending, rude, and disrespectful! About 10 minutes after I got off the phone I called back to cancel my order. I didn't want to give someone this guy my business based on how he handled a simple question. When did call, I told the girl who answered that I wanted to cancel my order and was told to hang on. The owner got back on the phone with the same bad attitude and asked if he could help me. I told him that I wanted to cancel my order because I didn't care the way he spoke to me. He immediately YELLED "This is our policy and its been our policy for 30 year, have a nice day!" and HUNG UP ON ME! Again, the policy is completely fair, but the way this deals with the public is atrocious! I cant believe someone who acts this way is selling flowers! Check out the reviews on Google, it seems another customer has experienced the same thing. His responses are consistent with people who know they are abusive and giving their best effort towards damage control. He can respond all he likes, my recollection of this incident isn't fabricated in any way. I only gave him one star because I couldn't give him zero, which is what he deserves. read more

I would never order from here again. You would be better off buying flowers from the grocery store or corner bodega than at a personal touch. I placed an order for a certain arrangement of roses as seen on their website.I was told on the phone that there would be a dozen and a half roses in the arrangement. I confirmed and said 18 roses? Yes, the totally uninformed sale clerk replied. This person had to check with someone for every single question I asked. Do you deliver on Sunday? When is the latest you can deliver? How many flowers? etc Anyway, what i received were 13 roses instead of the 18 promised. 3 of the stems were "broken" (the roses were hanging down from the middle). All of the roses were old and totally open. Many of the roses had brown edges. Never again. read more

I went to Personal Touch to get fresh flowers for a cake being made at bakery in town for my mom's Surprise 60th birthday. I spoke with John and showed him a picture of a cake (from Pintrest, of course) that had sugar flowers on it. They matched the picture with fresh flowers so closely it was just stunning. And they were sweet enough to drop off the flowers at the bakery the evening before my cake order was to be picked up! My daughter had an upcoming father daughter dance, so of course we needed a beautiful corsage for the big event! The first few florists I called weren't very willing to accommodate us in making a small size,but Personal Touch was. I reached out to John the owner and he was more than willing to take my order. His prices are great, and his service is even better! He took the time to listen to what I was looking for and even made a suggestion in regards to a coordinating ribbon to match her dress. Ordered a wreath for my father's funeral. They charged us $200 for the arrangement. The arrangement looked cheap and it's definitely not worth the money spent. On top of that they promised to have the flowers to us half an hour prior to the church service and they arrived five minutes after the service started. A Personal Touch lives up to their name. We live 1600 miles away and I wanted to send flowers to my ill mother-in-law. When I called to order, they apologetically explained to me that because of the hospital location, delivery was going to extremely difficult & expensive. So I sent the flowers to the house with the hope another relative could take them to her. Well, A Personal Touch delivered a beautiful bouquet an hour after I spoke with them! So my wife made the arrangement for my sons christening this past sunday so I didn't know what they looked like. We set up a delivery time for 12PM at our venue and we paid full. We arrive at the venue around 230 PM Sunday and no flowers. i called the owners johns emergency contact number and turns out the driver delivered the flowers to the wrong place and by the time the driver arrived with them I had to turn them away because the party was almost over and people were leaving. John called me the next day was VERY VERY apologetic refunded us IN full and gave us a few other perks as well. Being in the service business I understand things happen. I was very thrilled John handled the situation like a true business man and lived up to his name! When we went in to sign paper work he had the arrangements still and gave Us one. It was beautiful. It went far beyond my expectations. I couldn't have been happier. With a two day notice, the presentation and choice of flowers was very special. I was amazed at the sheer volume and freshness of the arrangement. There were several comments from others at how amazing and lovely the flowers looked. The proprietor I spoke with was very patient in listening to all my requests for the arrangement. I recently had a hospital stay, and while recovering I was the recipient of a few different bouquet of flowers; one of these came from Personal Touch. The flowers were very fresh, smelled beautiful, and the arrangement was stunning. However, what impressed me the most was the fact this particular arrangement lasted for almost 3 weeks!!! The others started fading after just a couple of days, but the ones I received from Personal Touch stayed fresh for a much longer period of time!
