Brought my scruffy Brussels Griffon and scruffy Havanese in for grooming. Received a full tour the day before and was very impressed with the hotel part. The hotel was amazing; 35 decorated rooms, climate controlled. I also liked the idea that the hotel rooms had a window starting mid door height rather so the dogs couldn't see other dogs but the caregivers could easily see the dogs. What struck me most is the lack dogs barking like crazy. I got to see where they were napping in crates (12-1pm). When the dogs saw me, they wagged their tales and barked but quieted down pretty quick once I stepped into the big indoor play areas. I asked if I could see the dogs play and Jen and Mike said sure. Mike went in to the crate room and those dogs wagged their tales and bounced towards the playroom door. They obviously adored him! That was important for me to see. They also adored Jennifer. None looked like they wanted to leave or were fretting. Play, play, play. And clean! I came back Friday for grooming and daycare. I was so amazed when I saw my Havanese. Jennifer took her time and he looked fabulous! I knew he had some matts and she worked them through. No quick shaving as every single groomer I have gone to has done. I now realized that they did that because it was more convenient for them. Our lil guy was strutting his stuff afterwards. Our Griffon was gorgeous as well and both their ears and nails were taken care of properly. Their daycare seemed to go well too as they were exhausted when they got home. I will be taking them again this Tuesday for play time. I would recommend Jennifer above all other groomers we've used and Mike for his absolutely amazing daycare and hotel. read more

I will never be able to express how wonderful A New Dog truly is. Mike and Jen are such wonderful people and have truly put their hearts and souls into this. I have what I consider a high maintenance dog who required extended stays at A New Dog. I never worried if my dog was getting her medications or being feed correctly. I also never had to worry about her ever being alone as Mike and/or Jen are always at the building, even at night time so the animals are never left alone. We have been using these wonderful people for the past year and a half. We have one highly energetic husky mix and another rescue that takes a long time to warm up to others. Jen and Mike have been watching them both at least 3/4 days a week every week plus several extended vacations up to 12 days. The dogs are both very happy, board together and come home tired - which is a great sign that they've been running and playing all day. Our rescue was very shy and antisocial when we got her ( opposite of the other dog) but they managed to make her feel at home. I can't imagine having anyone else sit my girls. This place is great! They are very nice and do a great job of screening your dogs records before they allow them on the premises - excellent step in preventing illness and disease. We called and the owner was more than willing to give a full tour of the facility before we decided to board our dogs with them. The facility is very clean and climate controlled. The dogs have play areas for supervised socialization and are grouped by size. The rooms are amazing. Each of the rooms are truly like a room in your home - about the size of a laundry room - and are themed and furnished to feel like home. No cement and cold cage for these guys - these are five star accommodations. The owners and staff are very nice and obviously love animals - I can't say enough good things about A New Dog. read more

If I could give 10 PLUS stars I would! A New Dog is #1. It's been close to two years since I started to take my beagle to "A New Dog" and wanted to share my experience. After trying two other daycare/boarding facilities and walking away unimpressed, (my dog included), we found A New Dog. My beagle loves going to see Jen and Mike, we simply ask our dog - "do you want to go to see Jen or Mike" and her tail goes crazy and runs to the door - seriously, I'm not kidding. Daycare service is trustworthy and reliable, since I have long work hours, I utilize daycare each weekday. The caring and knowledgeable staff at A New Dog keeps my dog happy and busy, (lots of daily exercise), thus fostering her lean and healthy body. Our Vet repeatedly compliments me on how lean our dog is - most beagles pack on pounds with age. In fact our Vet endorsed A New Dog because Jen and Mike run a tight ship, if you will and they require all dogs to be up to date on vacations and health standards. As a dog owner, I find comfort in knowing that my little girl is in good hands. In fact, A New Dog is the only daycare facility in the area that keeps the door locked - fostering a secure location. I have been shocked at the other daycare's how anyone can walk right in - that's alarms me. It's the little things I trust most. I have used the boarding program many times and have come to rely on it with faith. I know that my little girl is loved and respected while staying there. Sometimes, I go to pick her up and I think she would like to stay longer. Kinda like the kids visiting the favorite Grandma that spoils them... Depending on the length of stay, my little girl even gets a bath before we bring her home - it's like a spa. Who can argue that? Sometimes I take my dog for daycare on a Saturday and find myself running late (after 7pm) and turn her stay into overnight boarding, (I try to leave extra food with them should such an issue happen). I simply call and/or text Jen and Mike the change of plans. They are so accommodating. I like how each dog gets their very own plastic bin to hold extra food, treats, and even a few toys to use during nap time, Yes, I said nap time - just ask A New Dog to give your pup a nap break if they are accustomed to it. We have taken our Rotweiller/big-dog-mix Seger to A New Dog for 2 1/2 years and it has been one of the best experiences for my whole family--mostly Seger--he loves it!! From the carefully outfitted "suites" to the supervised play area--he has a grand time socializing 5 days per week! I depend on Mike and Jen as I could not go to work without their help! When Seger had a spinal embolism and lost the use of his legs for almost 2 weeks--I was devastated. They gave him flowers, dog treats (which looked so real I gave one to my boss) :) and said to "Bring Seger, we will help you in any way we can." They used a strap to help him in and out to do his business and I will never forget the hope they gave me! All is well, he has a limp, and makes us all laugh everyday! I am so disappointed to leave a negative review... I boarded my pup here this weekend. We usually leave him with family but it didn't work out for this trip so after lots of research I decided to take him to A New Dog in Geneva. I had a nice chat and a tour, left directions for feeding my dog, his food (already portioned out) and some treats. I left an extra day's worth of food because we weren't sure we would make it back in time to pick him up on Sunday and he may have had to stay an extra night. As it turns out, we weren't back on time so I sent a family member to pick up our pooch. There was no extra food because "he looked at [the employee] like he needed more" so she fed him an entire extra day's worth of food, plus apparently all of the treats because there was nothing left over. I wonder what the plan was to feed my dog tomorrow had we not made it back on time tonight - like I had spoken about to the employee when I dropped him off. He was picked up about 6 hours ago. After coming home he sat my the sink begging for water until he had had 3 small bowls worth (he has never once begged for water in the almost 8.5 years we have had him). Since he has been acting a little off (which, admittedly, could just be because he was in a strange place for a few days) and has pooped 4 times (instead of his usual once a day) - probably because he had an entire extra day's worth of food... though apparently not enough water. I really thought I would be happy leaving my guy at this place... but I will not be returning nor recommending it to anyone. I wish I could say differently because it was exciting to find a place so close to home. read more

One time my pet is fine next time she complains about him being difficult to groom. She should know how to handle a puppy, now 8 months old. A very impressive facility. The individual dog suites are beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. After meeting Michael, the owner, It was obvious that he has a love for animals. They are equipped to care for animals with specific medical needs. The play area is also quite large and impressive, but the best feature of all is that this is a "cageless facility". I can't give "A New Dog" enough praise! I have a 16 month old Rottweiler, Dakota, who has a bad case of fear aggression towards everything. I have had her in a one on one training coarse for 8 weeks, and all though she did get a little better, she still did not welcome any other person to get too close to her or me. I found "A New Dog" boarding and daycare one day while driving down Randall Road in Geneva over the Christmas season last year. I saw their name and phone number in lights and this past July, I thought I would meet with them to see what they were like, as I was checking out all the highly recommended locations one Saturday. I was very much impressed, as soon as I stepped in the door, compared to the other boarding locations around the Fox Valley area. This place stands out SO far above any where else! Jennifer and Mike are so loving to the pets that come in and immediately make you feel that your pet is a treasure. They welcome you with a tour of the site, and let me tell you, it is so incredible what they have! As I was saying before about my Rot, with her fear aggression, never the less she was not very happy to meet them, but they immediately gave her their time by playing with her, walking her, spending so much one on one time with her. I brought her by one to two times a week, just to stop by and let her meet them. Well, this past weekend, I needed to leave her for a night,which I was very worried about. They spent so much time and care to get her to accept them. I was greeted with the best news I could hear when I returned to pick her up the next day. Jen showed me pictures that she took of Dakota alone with Mike just sitting together on the ground outside with her trying to sit in Mike's lap, like they where best friends. Thanks so much Mike for your commitment to my dog and now your friend too. When Jen brought her out to me, Dakota had a wagging tail and was licking Jen. What a fantastic sight for me to see! I recommend "A New Dog" to anyone that loves their pet and wants to go away and know that their pet is being cared for with the highest care and concern being given to them. I received a coupon for a free nail trim at a new dog . I tried many times to call but they never answer the phone so I decided to just stop by. The lady who answered the door was so rude, I think it was their groomer, she said you can't just stop by, she has to talk to your vet before your dog is even allowed into the reception area, where the flyer mentions none of this. We appreciate your response and have updated our initial review based on your clarification of the facts surrounding our last availability inquiry. However, we never said the pups were neutered before bringing them for daycare the first time. They're male dogs. It would've been pretty obvious once we arrived that they weren't neutered - and that's no way to start a business relationship, is it? Especially one so important as caring for our furry family members. In fact, we even completed your required paperwork indicating they weren't neutered yet and we explained the delay because of the other serious health issues the puppies had experienced. I'm sure you still have these documents somewhere. Furthermore, if, after that trial daycare visit you told us they needed to be neutered and fully healed before coming back again, you never would have agreed to take them the following weekend for boarding the first time. It was less than a week. It takes at least 10 days for dogs to heal from that kind of surgery. That's why it didn't make sense when Jennifer was surprised they weren't neutered when we dropped them off. When we brought them back for boarding after surgery, all of the stitches for the dew claws were removed but they were still bandaged due to licking. Again, leaving them with you wouldn't have even been an option if we knew about your policy. We weren't told several times. We weren't even told once. In fact, we were told the opposite. As long as the stitches were out, we'd be good to go. That's why it was totally shocking to be told so rudely we shouldn't have left them there with bandages the last time Jennifer and I spoke. I hesitated to post our review and would have preferred working it out over the phone but didn't want to be yelled at again for something I didn't know. It is a lack of communication on your side that is the source of this issue. We genuinely liked it there and so did the boys. read more

Our last kennel had extremely restrictive pick-up and drop-off time times, so we tried New Dog for their extremely flexible schedule. We liked that our Chesapeake Bay Retriever would be able to leave her 'bedroom' and get out to run around. We were a little nervous about having her playing with other dogs, for fear of her being bitten (she was bitten once just greeting a lab at Pet Smart, with no warnIng) or picking up an infection of some sort. But we felt comfortable that the owners were careful about what dogs they put together at play time. When we picked Benelli up after a 3-day stay, they said she was very well behaved and had a great time with a couple of other dogs at play time. As Nelli is a working dog, we were assured that they would only use the commands we asked them to use and not engage in types of play that we don't allow (like tug of war), so that was also important to us. We're leaving Nelli for another vacation soon, as we had a good experience the first time. read more

Jennifer was recommended by a friend for her grooming services. I have a senior yellow lab and had been using one of the retail chain pet stores for their grooming services. What I didn't know didn't hurt me but I'm so glad that I called Jennifer to schedule a grooming with her. As a previous reviewer mentioned, they are firm about being sure that the animals have current vaccinations in place before allowing them into their facility. When I dropped my dog, Riley, off for his grooming she offered me a tour of the facility. My daughter was with me and she took time to provide us with a thorough and complete tour being sure to explain each area, what takes place, why they do things the way they do and we could tell how knowledgeable they are about their business market and the services that they offer. I have never boarded my dog in all the time that I've had him as I've been fortunate to have friends and family that have been able to take Riley in when I've needed to leave him behind. I was interested in seeing their facility and meeting with the personnel so I thought I would 'interview' them via their grooming services and get a feel for their boarding as I have a couple of events this year that will require me to have someone else provide for my boy. I feel confident that I've found the place for his 'home away from home' care. They assured me that they would be able to administer his medications, provide him with socialization and exercise and maintain that routine of feeding and walking that he's used to at home so that I don't have to retrain him and he doesn't feel too out of place while I'm away. On top of this, Jennifers grooming services were exceptional. He was gorgeous when I picked him up. She performed the services in about half the time of the other place. And while price isn't the most important aspect of a transaction to me I'm happy to tell that the cost was SIGNIFICANTLY LESS than the other place. Great facility. Great Services. Love of animals is evident and you can see the passion that they have for their business. I wish them all the success they seek. read more

I just had my 2 ShihTzu's groomed at A New Dog. I am so happy with the way they are treated and cared for. We have had them boarded there (a real hard thing for me to do) and they have been cared for lovingly. It is evident from the moment you walk into the facility, that Jennifer and Mike love what they are doing. It is immaculate and so cleverly decorated. The care and concern for my pups is wonderful. Unbelievably unprofessional! Stopped in on a Saturaday morning to view the facility. Office was a mess, but the rest of the facility was clean. Talked to Jennifer for quite some time and she gave us a list of requirements. Kept us up front for awhile. seemed very nervous. We took our dogs to the vet, got the shots she required, called and left her a message. No response. Called again. Received a call back, but now the requirements had changed! Got the fecal test she requested. Called Jennifer and left message. No response. Called again the next day, 2 days before we were boarding to attend my son's wedding. Finally received a voicemail back telling me she had no room for my dogs!! Two days before! As in an earlier review, the lack of barking also struck me as odd! Are they drugging the animals? This doggy daycare and hotel is the most unique place I've ever been. The owner, Mike Eckblade is a super wonderful guy and treats the animals with love and respect as if they're his dogs. The place has many unique individual themed rooms for pets. It's all climate controlled. The place smells very clean and has no odor. The dogs are all walked individually outside. The prices are very decent based on all that the owners do for the pets. Plan to have your dog take a vacation for a week...they can handle it. If you're a dog owner this is where you want your dog to stay, play and or be groomed. My husband and I have been boarding our 2 dogs at A New Dog for almost a year now and will continue to do so as long as we remain pet owners. Their care for your pets needs, is unmatched by any of the local facilities (which we have personally tried 3). In my 40+ years in the workforce 21 years were spent working for 2 different veterinarians. The reason for my post is there needs to be some clarification of the chronic negative poster from last month. I was the woman who pulled up to get my dogs the day you and your so called emotional husband were there creating a scene. I stayed outside while you sat in your minivan with your kids. Your husband cussed out the owner and the owner fired right back at your husband. Telling you both that your husband cussed at Jen (the groomer) and that he hit the glass window inside, and if you didn't leave he would have you both arrested. Your final comment was that the owner was neglectful of your dog. First off. no one says they will call the police if all you or your husband were doing was "asking questions" or because they didn't like your questions. If your husbands behavior was the same inside as outside I would have called the police. Now about the owner, you make the comment he is not a vet and not qualified to say a dog is doing well. That's a stupid comment. I didn't read a sign that says A New Dog VET CLINIC. OR ANIMAL HOSPITAL, but you want him and the staff to recognize symptoms and diagnose your dog. (THE DOG YOU MADE SICK) If you want that service board your dogs with a vet. About the dog and its symptoms. you list the symptoms why don't you list the cause of how your dog ended up with pancreatitis. Feeding your dog the wrong diet over an extended period of time. Not to mention you even admit in your review you were giving your dog cheese (a high sodium fatty food) to take pills during a time when it was already ill with a urinary tract infection. You say you should have researched A New Dog, before taking your dogs there. You should have researched how to take care of dogs before you became a pet owner. Your expectations are as foolish as your review. If your child unexpectedly falls flat on his face in the middle of a football game unresponsive. Whats wrong with your child? Blame the school they didn't give your child enough gatorade right??? Your dog had a urinary infection, and a serious medical issue caused by prolonged poor nutrition then the decision of you and your husband to add to the dogs stress by boarding the dog. That's a recipe for disaster. I'm sure you think all of this is the fault of the dog kennel. Grow up, be a responsible pet owner. I boarded two dogs, a Bichon and a Silky Terrier during my daughter's wedding. We were running late and I forgot to bring food for the dogs. A New Dog realized my predicament as getting food would make me late for the wedding. They offered and then went to PetCo to purchase the LID food my dogs need. There was no upcharge, just the store cost of food, supported by receipt. And I received the remainder of the small bag that they purchased. Both dogs did very well in a room they shared for the night. Our dogs are well cared for, see the vet every year and get their shots. Check-in was a breeze. I don't usually let anyone board my dogs, but this place was over the top!!!! They got their nails trimmed (I have 3-dogs),which was a pleasant surprise.
