Shocked at them not having good reviews, they totally understood my (very nervous) dog and listened to what I had to say. Didn't rush me and were extremely gentle, totally focused on how we were feeling and being clear with instructions and options. Absolutely took their time, so we had to wait between the vet tech and the vet doctor, but I didn't mind because it was otherwise such a good experience. Stay away from this place! I can't believe people actually recommend this "clinic" for anxious dogs. They're supposed to be a "fear free" clinic yet it was the vet that seemed anxious and fearful and flat out refused to treat my dog even after I muzzled her (upon their recommendation) with their basket muzzle. My dog is already a little anxious in new places but she was very calm on this day. However with pain and worsening vision, and a new muzzle she became very nervous about what was happening to her. I explained the multiple symptoms she was having but they did NOTHING! No bloodwork, no UA, and barely a physical exam (like I said, the vet was fearful of a sick dog). They gave me basket muzzle to "train" her on (even though she's already trained on the muzzle), pain meds, anti anxiety meds, a UA cup, a $300 bill to pay and told me to come back in 3 weeks! In that time my dog has gone from having a visual impairment to FULLY BLIND because of the negligence of this clinic. We had no idea her vision was that bad and this vet never even examined her eyes even though I told her multiple times I thought there was something wrong with her vision. I took her today to another vet clinic because her symptoms seemed to be worsening and I didn't think we could wait until the end of the month. Not only did they examine her eyes but they did a COMPLETE WORKUP and found other problems we didn't even know were issues! During the vision test today it was determined that our dog is now blind and would need to see a specialist. We lost valuable time to save our dogs vision because of this Loyal Companions! read more

The vets here are kind and patient. We have an anxious pup who is afraid of the vet. They have worked with us and now during most appointments, he falls right to sleep. They really take the time to make sure your pet is as comfortable as possible before moving forward with the exam. read more

The one star is generous. What kind of business closes their boarding program/daycare and fires their employees with a weeks notice. The kicker is they knew about this in advance, but wanted to make money off all the spring breakers. If they treat their employees like this, how loyal are they to your animals. I always support small business, but not shady ones who do not value their employees. This is a horrible business. read more

ZERO STAR!!!!! DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE!! I wish I would have read the previous BAD reviews on this place. They charge you OVER $100+ for the first visit just so they can get the "vibes" from your dog. Second visit they charge you almost $80+ for the first exam. So what was the point for the first visit???? I was told QUOTE ON QUOTE with attitude --"First visit the doctor didn't even touch your dog just looked at it" so if the doctor didn't do anything so why did I get charged over $100??? RIDICULOUS. ALSO for the same dog shot here is 5x more expensive and for WHAT?? Never bringing my pet back here. What a joke. read more

If you want to want to board your dog here to have them get injured, receive no apology and be told you signed a waiver then yes, this is the place to go! Was quoted a estimate for said injury for $1000 and once we called another vet in the area that comes highly recommended the costs was $230 for the exact same thing. read more

unfortunately had to bring my dog in here for testing when she was sick. test came in Monday morning and the secretary called me and let me know. The doctor was looking at the test and was going to get back to me. I called back at 4 o'clock. They tell me the doctor has had zero time to look at them. The doctor finally calls me back at 6:30 to tell me that my dog needs immediate care and should be brought in right away, the doctor gave me attitude because I had an attitude with her employees because I couldn't get a response back on what was going on with my dog. The papers sat there for 12 hours on her desk for her to then call me to bring her into an urgent care this with some of the worst customer service I've ever had in my entire life and I do not recommend anybody bring their animal here for any type of help. read more

I'm my opinion, this practice is over the top with the fear-free philosophy. For a pre-op lab draw on my typical house cat, she was sedated and then when she wasn't sedated enough to be docile for the draw they wanted me to come back another day after doubling down on the sedative, acknowledging that she would stumble around once again for that day. I expressed concern that with her sedation level I was concerned she would fall/have an accident. The staff responded with a "hmmmm maybe" kind of suggestion that I could confine her for the day with her food and litter box. I went home and contemplated this and decided it was inappropriate, and any friends and family I discussed it with were aghast. I followed with an email explaining that I wouldn't return for the 2nd attempt lab draw nor the surgery as I believed our philosophies did not match. They never replied. read more

Do not take your pet to daycare at St. Charles location. Most of staff doesn't know what they are doing. Doesn't seem like staff wants to be there. 3 years my dog was there & it was good at first but then people kept changing and mgmt kept changing. They started complaining about my dog not understanding social cues with other dogs when he was a puppy. My dog is a 3 year old Brittany with a lot of energy which is why we brought him there. I think the dogs spend more time in kennel then playing. I just got a call from new manager telling me about new structure & i may not want to bring him in during spring break because it's a rowdy bunch & he may not handle it well. Funny thing is when i watched him on their camera he was sitting in the girls lap or laying down. Very disappointed on how they handled this so i canceled upcoming appts and pulled him out. They all seem to have bad attitudes which is probably why it's a revolving door with mgmt and staff. read more

If you are boarding dogs, be aware that the employees taking care of pets are untrained and unsupervised. They have"luxury suites" but your pet spends most of their days and nights confined in them. The ONLY DOGS that get out of their confined areas are the ones who play with other dogs in a group setting. The veterinarian will be quick to drug your dog to keep it quiet. Find somewhere else to board your buddy. Do not trust this veterinarian.... read more

We recently moved to the area and were referred by a friend to Loyal Companions after they raved about the Fear Free practice and great staff. Although we had planned to schedule a first visit to meet the staff and establish care at the practice, our rescue pup got sick and we ended up in the office for treatment first. The staff was kind, gentle, and loving and never made us feel uncomfortable that our dog is an anxious guy who barks at first before settling down. Our staff members were Nancy (omg simply the sweetest!) and Dr. Wahlund. They presented my husband and me with a range of treatment options varying from conservative to super thorough (with costs) and let us pick the best fit for us without judgement. We received follow up calls and messages via email and could easily communicate back to the staff. The office itself is very clean and comfortable as well. We recently had to bring our foster dog to another veterinary office (that is covered by the rescue), and it has made us even more appreciative of Loyal Companions. The level of care our resident dog receives from Loyal Companions is so far beyond the other office in every way (staff knowledge, compassion, professionalism, communication, facilities). We feel so lucky to have found Loyal Companions and highly recommend the office if you are looking for a new vet in the area. read more

The Loyal Companions team has taken such good care of our dogs since we moved to the area in 2016. Their "Fear Free" approach was a Godsend for one of our dogs, in particular. We really liked our prior vet in Chicago but it wasn't a fear free practice, and our dog was so anxious that he had to be pinned down by three staff members just to get his nails trimmed. That wasn't necessary once we started going to LC. That pup was also aggressive with other dogs so it helped that LC puts you and your pet straight into the exam room; our dog could have never tolerated being in a waiting room. We love Dr. Petsche and everyone else we've worked with there. We feel like they truly care about our fur babies and understand how important they are to us. We'd never go anywhere else. read more

Moved a couple years ago a continued to drive extra distance to our old vet. Had an emergency and took our dog to Loyal Companions, who was fantastic. After that, we just continued going to Loyal Companions. Recently, our dog Scout had some issues. Dr Petsche was very easy to talk to, compassionate, and helpful. I highly recommend Loyal Companions. GReat place and great staff. It's a different experience with separate entrances for dogs and cats. No waiting room, you are greeted and go right to your room. Staff came in with armloads of treats to calm my nervous dog. Dr is very friendly and knowledge. She explained what was going on. She later calmed me down over the phone and in person by listening and giving me her advice. I came here on a recommendation from a fellow dog lover for a 2nd injury review plus we are moving out of state. She and her staff boarded my injured girl while the movers were loading us to ease her stress level. They are great! read more

I have never written a review before online, but I am so impressed with Dr. Petsche and her staff I really wanted others to know about Loyal Companions. I have an older rescue dog who was badly abused when she was young. Every vet we went to traumatized her further. She would be sick for a week after going. I had given up on vets and stopped getting her even routine vaccinations. Then her teeth got very bad. I didn't want to take her to a vet. My daughter found Fear Free Loyal Companions and called them. I was very skeptical. I was told she would need a blood test before a dental and I knew that would be too much for her. I gave it a try though. The first meeting they just gave her treats and tried to listen to her heart. They didn't push her (or me) at all. Next visit they gave me some pills to calm her down. They still couldn't get any blood without scaring her, but did give her needed vaccinations and she was fine. The allowed me to bring her in the day of the dental and they let me hold her while they gave her one small shot to put her to sleep so they could do the tests before the dental. I was given a low and high estimate for the dental. The high estimate was for 5 teeth removed even though they had never been able to look at her mouth. She ended up having 32 teeth pulled! I was nervous about the cost, but I was only charged for the high estimate even though it took Dr. Petsche many more additional hours. I can't say enough about the caring staff and the accommodations. They have a separate cat and dog entrance. There is no waiting room. You are immediately put in a separate room with a comfortable bench instead of a metal table. You check out in the same room which I found very helpful with my stressful dog. I highly recommend Loyal Companions to anyone who wants their pet treated with kindness. You don't have to have a scared pet to go there. No higher priced than a regular vet. I don't know why anyone in the Fox Valley would go anywhere else. read more

Had previously been happy with boarding our pup here. Had been just a couple months and man what a change.....Very disappointed in our most recent boarding experience. Booked just a one night stay to prepare our dog for an extended boarding that was in her near future. All I can say is I could not get there quick enough to pick her up. Shortly after drop off I noticed vis suite camera (which is a plus) that she was in her suite while the rest of the dogs were playing. Called and spoke with manager and was told she "growled" at another dog which I thought was weird as this had never happened. Was told she would be re-introduced the next day and would be given 1:1 time. Next day, daycare started and she was still in her suite, was told by the manager this time that she was too timid and the group was too hyper so she needed to be separated and was not given a chance to do the daycare portion. So which one is it??? Almost appears to be a ploy to encourage one to take part more of their daycare. Never again! Have referred this place to many neighbors and friends. Will retract these recommendations. read more

I am so grateful for Dr Petsche and the awesome staff. They took amazing care of my dog. She is incredibly smart and caring. She took extra time with me and explained everything throughout our whole situation. I also take my dog to the daycare which my dog can't wait to get out of the car and go to! He LOVES it! I looked at several locations for day care and boarding and this is by far the best place I have seen. It's clean. They don't have too many dogs so you know they all get attention and exercise! My cat has a history of IBS and spinal issues. I had a great rapport with my vet, Dr. Nickel, and my cat responded well to her approach. She recently switched practices to join Loyal Companions and I took my cat there for the first time today to try it out. I've never seen my cat so relaxed and at ease at the vet since I adopted him 4 years ago. He has always been nervous and has sometimes tried to bite but today he was lounging on the window sill and practically falling asleep while we discussed his treatment. I am confident that Loyal Companions is the right place for him and I will be bringing my other cat there as well. Nothing against my former vet but I can't deny Loyal Companions is doing something right with how he responded. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and helpful and the facility was spotless. Having a separate cat entrance is great - no added stress due to hearing/smelling any dogs. I highly recommend Loyal Companions to any dog or cat owner out there. read more
