We have been going to St. Charles Vet clinic for all our pets over the past 20 years. We continue to bring our pets for many reason. The incredible vets that have such a passion for helping our animals, to the front desk crew who always calm me down when I'm in a panic, and a huge shout out to all the vet techs that are behind the scenes. One such amazing lady is Lacey. Yesterday was a very rough day for my cat Sophie, and when I had to bring her back today, Lacey didn't think twice about taking Sophie and making sure she was calm and at ease ( as well as me) while she quickly and efficiently gave Sophie her meds. Lacey was absolutely incredible and caring with Sophie. She made sure Sophie was calm and at ease (not easy). I gave Lacey the biggest hug! Grossly negligent. Killed my dog Do not come here. Let my dog sit there all day with injuries. Never followed up with us. When they finally did it was too late to save the dog. They have no clue what they are doing. They showed.me on an xray that my dogs ribs were not broken and later when the dog died on their table, they said the whole rib cage was crushed. I have to keep this short before I start bawling again but wanted to give a huge recommendation for this place as an ER because a few days ago my husband and I had that nightmare, the one every single person reading this dreads, when one of our beloved cats died very suddenly, as in one minute the cat who had not been sick at all was playing and fine and the next he'd frozen up into some kind of siezure and stopped breathing in a matter of seconds. Terrified and in shock I googled ER vet near me and thank God I got this place, calling them while running to the car with our cat. We lost him, yes, to an apparent heart attack, but the kindness and care and steadfast feeling this clinic gave us when we needed it most has won them our loyalty and I'm grateful to everyone on staff that night for taking care of us, and of Captain Larry. read more

If I could give them a -10 I would. My 3 year old dog is dead because of them! We took him there 3 hours after an accident where he injured himself jumping off of our boat. They said he had internal bruising and sent him home with pain meds and an anti inflammatory drug (he wouldn't even stand up). Two days later after no improvement when he still wouldn't stand, eat, drink, or go to the bathroom, I called them back and they blew me off telling me there was nothing they could do. I trusted they were right about the bruising and that he just needed more time. By day 4 I called again demanding a 2nd opinion. By the time they called me back hours later stating they may have missed something in the scans, he was dead. I went there and talked to them and as it turns out, they can't even diagnose internal bruising for at least 24 hours after an incident and if they had brought him back for a recheck there were multiple things they could have done to help him, but instead they did nothing! They are now contacting me from their legal team... yes, TEAM... one small clinic has an entire legal TEAM, if that tells you anaything.... offering me a reimbursement for my bill, but only if I sign an "agreement". Since this awful ordeal I have heard nothing but horror stories about this clinic. Their reviews are only 4.6 because they clearly pay people off to not write bad reviews. Take your animals anywhere else if you care about them at all! My family and I would still have our dog if honest reviews were posted and people weren't being paid off! read more

Took our sick kitty there on a Sunday. They were pretty busy so we had to wait, which was expected, but they were super nice and apologized about it once we got in a room. They provided quick diagnosis and service from there on. The biggest part of my 5 star rating is price. Going to the Emergency vet, on a Sunday, I expected to pay A LOT more than what we paid for the visit, x-rays, treatment and a 4 hour stay in the hospital. They gave us and our little boy wonderful care at a more than reasonable cost too! I hope to never need an emergency vet again but if we do, we will be going here for sure! read more

I've used this clinic in the past and they did a good job with my Great Dane. The reason I'm giving them a one star is that recently I've recently had my 12.5 year old Golden Retriever at his vet because of lack of appetite. We've already had xrays, and bloodwork to find out that he has a growth in his abdomen. The next step is to have an Ultrasound which his current vet doesn't do in office. So I started calling around to get pricing for this procedure. St Charles was the only one that wanted to add on an addition fee for an examination, even though I have already spent over $500 at my current vet. There would be no reason for an exam as I would provide X-rays and bloodwork from the other vet. Sorry but I not happy that this is just a money issue to them instead of a compassion issue. All I need is an ultrasound!! Not more out of pocket expen Thanks for the response but I stick to my original post about it being about the money. I received multiple quotes from other Animal Hospitals in the area that only included the cost for the ultrasound only. I visited the St. Charles Veterinary Clinic for the first time about two months ago. I took my cat in to get her yearly vaccinations, and get checked out because she had been having some blood in her stool. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. I forget the name of the veterinarian that treated my cat, but he was incredibly kind and the medication he prescribed healed my cat promptly! I also thought everything was quite affordable and fairly priced. You can tell they truly care about your pets! My cat and I will be coming here from now on! read more

I first left this practice when I brought my dog in, told the vet I didn't want her to get a kennel cough vaccination because she isn't around other dogs, he immediately tickled her neck so she coughed, then he told me she had kennel cough and charged me for kennel cough meds. He was going to get that money out of me one way or another. My parents brought our ailing family dog here in his later years, and the staff were so wonderful that I decided to bring my puppy, Ella, here seven years later. It's difficult to properly put into words how incredible the staff are at St. Charles Veterinary Clinic. From the moment you walk in the door, you and your animal companion are greeted warmly. The vet technicians have a wonderful way of making your pet feel at ease (Ella is usually so at ease, in fact, she doesn't even feel the thermometer going up her bum!). And the vets themselves are so knowledgeable, thorough and professional that you have no doubt whatsoever that your pet is in great hands. But what really sets this clinic apart is the way they continue caring for and about your pet after the visit has concluded. I regularly receive calls from the staff after Ella has had a vaccination, checking to see how she is feeling and reacting. We were also invited to a Puppy Party, where Ella was able to play with other puppies and owners were given the chance to ask questions of the vet. I can also tell you that when my parents had to put our family dog down, the vet not only called to check on our family a few days later, but also sent us a lovely card with her condolences. If only humans received the same kind of care and attention after visits to our own doctors! I loved coming here for Dr Todd! He was nice, good with my "difficult" dog, and didn't push extra vaccines or medications. Unfortunately Dr Todd retired. I spent quite a bit of time telling the front desk staff that I needed a vet who was patient with my dog. Who do they book me with? Someone who appeared to be straight out of vet school. After telling the vet that my dog was defensive and that he needed a muzzle she was afraid to even pet him (he's actually pretty friendly most of the time with tail wagging, no growling). Its so insulting to spend ten minutes on the phone asking for an experienced vet and then getting the exact opposite. And yes, I probably should have looked the vet up on their website, but I actually trusted them. If I can't trust them with a simple request, how can I trust them with my dogs health? I have since moved both my dogs to another vet and I'm in the process of getting my mom and my aunt to move all of their animals as well. Obviously I would have stayed as a customer if the vet was even semi-good with my dog- which is disappointing all around because Dr Todd was so kind and accommodating. To be honest, I would have stayed if they had actually honored my request! But this was too ridiculous to even bear coming back. read more

We had to visit the emergency clinic on a Sunday morning for our dog's eye infection. What an amazing experience. Registered by phone, they came and got dog from car. Vet called with her impression and plan. Got medicine and written instructions. Total visit time 2 hours. They were really busy with lots of animals coming and going. Lots of very sick pets- so sad to see that. But they kept us informed and we were so impressed. Now don't expect a 2 hr visit - as an emergency clinic they have to take care of the sickest first. We were ready to spend a lot longer and brought food and drinks and reading material. We will flood up with our own vet. I hope you never need an emergency vet but this clinic is top notch in compassion and professionalism. Oh, and almost forgot- reasonable charges. Won't post it but much less than expected. read more

I will start off with a positive note, everyone who works there is nice and Doctor Amy is very friendly and clearly loves being around animals. But ultimately, the competency to address medical concerns for dog care is EXTREMELY poor. My dog has a condition that is called Cushing's. At the time I was going to St. Charles Veterinary Clinic, my dog had been going there since he was 4 months old (now 9 years old) and we never found out he had Cushing's. He began having joint pain, excessive drinking and eating, skin rashes and skin tags. All the concerns that persisted during our time there. After two years of bring in my dog for this, all the clinic could offer each time was over the counter shampoos or creams for the rash or try their vitamin for joints. However, my dog did not improve. This was not the first time we had to try multiple treatment due to poor medical advice. My dog has many skin tags, we did a freeze treatment. That failed. We went back and had to do an operation and put him under. Over a 1000$ wasted. (we now know that freeze treatment was never going to work due to the size of the skin tag after being told by my new vet) Long story short, once I realize they are simply not quality veterinary professionals and I was moving out of state so I went elsewhere who, upon the first apointment, had said my dogs condition was clearly all linked and any vet should do bloodwork to find out what is going on. Within a week we had a diagnosis and a good treatment plan because he had a fairly common condition. My dog is much better and thriving now that I am not in the care of St. Charles Veterinary Clinic. read more

I had to downgrade my review because they STILL aren't allowing humans to accompany their pets inside the clinic. Personally, that seems ridiculous to me at this point. Other vets are fully open in the area and have been for some time. I'm sure not dealing with people is easier on them (only reason I can think of) but it's frustrating to me. We live in Nashville and brought our 6.5 year old Yellow Lab, Nash (our fifth Labrador), to Dr Miles for surgery and it was the BEST decision! After being told, incorrectly, it appeared Nash had hip dysplasia from our regular vet in Nashville and once Nash was correctly diagnosed with a ruptured ACL/CCL and Meniscus tear it was strongly recommended he have TPLO surgery. We've been through both surgeries in the past: a Lateral Suture Technique/Extracapsular Repair-with our First Labrador and Double TPLO with our Second Labrador. We had a big decision to make and are lucky enough to be able to afford any procedure. The internet pushes TPLO and makes you think if you can 'afford' TPLO surgery... this is the way to go. What we considered was the experience and knowledge of Dr Miles and knowing him from having lived in St Charles in the past. He studied at one of, if not THE Best, DVM Universities in the country. No one is more passionate and caring. Do your homework, ask your questions, don't get sucked in to the 'popular trend' on the internet and with 'newer' Veterinarians. We are so happy we consulted with Dr. Miles, made our decision, and 5 weeks after surgery Nash is getting back to his old self! It is amazing to see the progress and weight bearing return to his back right leg. He is excited for walks again and we started just a little bit of ball playing!! If only Dr. Miles was closer! So I bring my puppy here today to the emergency vet because she ate some mushrooms in the backyard and was vomiting, drooling diarrhea the whole gambit. I arrived at 5:20 and called the number on the door to let us in. The woman on the phone told me the emergency vet doesn't open until 6. Ok. Fine. Can you see her and get the process started and when they arrive just transfer me over to them? She asked if I was a client. I told her I am not. She told me they wouldn't see my dog since I wasn't a client and to go to aurora or wait until 6. Are you kidding me??? I just offered to pay YOU to see my puppy on an emergency basis AND to pay YOU for any tests that may be needed before the ER people arrived. And I was told no. Aren't you in the business of making money besides the business of taking care of animals? Funny though.... I have 3 pets. It's a shame that they just brushed me off. They could have had 3 new patients. Not anymore. I knew they were useless if you weren't a client and had a pet in the ER because your dog could literally have two paws on the rainbow bridge with IVs in the arm and they would tell you to come get it out of there in the morning. I should have known better. Lesson learned. They obviously don't need any new patients and clientele. read more

I have three cats, none of which do well at veterinarian's offices. Before I found St. Charles vet clinic, I could NOT find a vet that could handle my pets. Once, a different vet actually put my cat in her carrier and hit it to make her hiss so he could check her teeth. Then one of my cats became diabetic and the nearby clinic told me it would be acceptable, and probably desirable, to put her down. I spoke to Heather Stewart at the St. Charles clinic and she guided me through home monitoring and giving insulin shots. A few weeks later my cat was in remission. I now drive the 40 minutes to the St. Charles clinic to get my vet care. Moreover, I recently had to put my oldest cat down. This was a horrifying prospect, but the folks at this clinic were compassionate and kind. They made this awful experience bearable. I cannot say enough kind words about the people - because that's what it's really all about. They may have state-of-the-art equipment and a beautiful, immaculate facility, but what really makes the difference is the people. read more

The facility is always very clean, too. It never smells like a 'vet office'. I have been taking my 8 year old Great Dane to Dr Miles for about 2 years. I've been to 4 different vets for my dog's skin issues. Dr. Miles immediately recognized it as something treatable with antibiotics. I wasted years on food trials after being told by his previous vet it was food allergies. Now diagnosed with osteosarcoma, the staff at St Chas Vet Clinic is helping Tundra remain happy and comfortable in his last stage of life. Dr. Miles is the kind of veterinarian any pet owner would want. I brought my dog, Jack, to Dr. Miles for a second opinion after being told by another veterinarian that he needed dual hip surgery. After Dr. Miles did a thorough exam, he saw that his hips where not the issue, however Jack had partially torn ACL that needed to be repaired. He explained different options, and how surgery could be done. He even demonstrated where the pain was and why he believed it was the ACL and not the hips. We asked for a quote on the ACL surgery and planned to take Jack for a 3rd opinion. After a day of absorbing the new information, we realized that Dr. Miles' diagnosis was obviously correct and his strategy to determine the issue before proceeding was much more logical. In other words, we felt Dr. Miles knew exactly what he was talking about. During surgery the clinic kept us updated, understanding that Jack was an important family member. He was well loved and cared for, and Jack's care during his recovery at the clinic was second to none. Everyone that came in contact with him loved him as if he was their own. Jack is now fully healed from surgery and back to his happy puppy-like self. Thanks to all of the staff at St. Charles Veterinary Clinic who cared for him. The Clinic has now become our regular veterinarian. Never once have we felt pressure to purchase "extras", such as special foods, or unnecessary items. Dr. Miles has even offered some cost saving suggestions on things that would help Jack. Finally, they work with a local rescue (Homes for Endangered and Lost Pets) and give medical attention to so many homeless animals. We found Dr. Miles in 2010 after moving from the city to the western burbs. My Elkhound needed ACL/Meniscus surgery (come to find out), and it was Dr. Miles that had a solid reputation for his work. My husband and I have nothing but rave reviews for him, his work, his bedside manner, and educational approach. You can tell he loves what he does, has compassion, and makes sure you are comfortable with the path of care. Truly the best staff around! We've relied on St. Charles Veterinary Clinic to take care of our animals for about a year now and have never been disappointed. When my little Marge became ill last week, they talked us through every step of her diagnosis. The results of her surgery and biopsies were very scary, and the staff was more than accommodating when I broke down on the phone and in their office on an almost daily basis. Unfortunately, Marge's prognosis was very poor and she had to be euthanized this morning. If it weren't for the unbelievably kind, understand, patient and warm demeanor of the techs and doctors, I don't think I would have felt as assured of the tough decision we had to make this morning. From initial diagnosis, all the way to her untimely rest, I always felt that the staff here truly cared about little Marge and for us, even though we had to bring her in on a busy Sunday. Though the circumstances surrounding my latest experience there were negative, I have nothing but positive feelings for the staff here and will continue to bring our current and future pets here. I only have great things to say about the Veterinary doctors and techs, but the receptionist ladies are so unprofessional. Every single time I've taken my dog there for a nail trim I stay out in the lobby area, and hear them being catty and rude. It happened today!! Keep it professional. More often than not they act like they do not like their job. How about a smile? You work with animals for crying out loud. My dog is excited to see you, and he can read your unfriendliness. I also think their prices are higher for routine care. I will be taking my dog somewhere else from now on, which is a shame. It is close to home. I've had my own cat for 10 years, and I've recently inherited a dog and cat by marriage. My husband has taken his pets to St. Charles Veterinary Clinic, and I have gone to a vet in Sugar Grove, so we have some comparison to consider: Ex) St. Charles recently recommended that our cat get a dental treatment, and quoted $518.00 for this. We were in and out at the Sugar Grove vet with EXCELLENT care for $208.00 -- got exactly what he needed, with no nonsense -- no unnecessary add-ons. It's hard for me to understand an over 50% price difference, and, in my mind, that's worth a bit of a drive to avoid. Ex) We had our dog in for surgery for a torn ACL. Well, make that three surgeries. When they went in to repair the ACL, they didn't take the meniscus, which I understand from Dr. Miles (who didn't perform the surgery, himself) is routine. This caused major problems and finally was taken on the 3rd surgery. They also FORGOT TO REMOVE STAPLES from our dog's knee, which caused a painful injection and complications in the joint. We were charged for each procedure. This was REALLY hard on our dog, and could have cost nearly $1000 less if everything was just done correctly the first time. Dr. Miles does seem highly knowledgeable and was very kind and concerned each procedure with our dog. But the high prices and difficulty with care have us going elsewhere. read more

I bring both my German Shepherd dog (since he was 8 weeks old, now 5 months) and my iguana (8 years old) to St Charles Veterinary Clinic. We picked them even if there were closer options because the pricing is good and they treat exotic animals. So far we've seen every vet and met almost all of the staff and everyone has been wonderful. Last Saturday I adopted my new girl Brody. I had planned to take her next week for a checkup since she was fresh from animal control but it became apparent Sunday she had something bothering her as she was scratching her ear relentlessly. I am new to the St. Charles area and was not sure where to go for the best pet care (or anything else for that matter :p). I consulted Yelp and after reading all the great reviews and seeing the "free wellness exam" offer I called. Staff was friendly and got us in the very next day. The property, office, and exam room were clean and comfortable. Dr. Liv was great with Brody and with showing me how to give her ear drops. She also listened to my questions and took time answering them which I was extremely thankful for. I did not feel rushed or uncomfortable. Everyone was very kind to my pooch and myself. Leaving with great advice was an added bonus to getting great service. I did not receive a "free wellness exam" so I think that may only apply if there is nothing wrong with your pet as I was charged for a new pet examination (so I would ask about it ahead).
