***Do not use WoofBeach for dog training or any other services they offer**** If you care about the wellbeing of your pet please avoid this business and do not support them by using any of their services. I had an awful experience. The Batavia location was not transparent about their methods upfront or when my wife had concerns and asked questions about my dog showing signs of fear. On the final day of training I found out they had been using a pronged collar and negative punishment style training methods without my permission. Whatever your opinion on the use of pronged collars is, at minimum the trainer should disclose and get approval from the owner before use. This did not happen and it was intentional knowing most clients would not sign the contract. At no time, even when my wife and I asked questions about their methods did they share this information. The state of IL does not regulate or license dog training so any business can claim to be an expert dog trainer and take your money. No ethical dog trainer recommends negative response for training your pet. This does not build trust but instead uses pain to push them into submission. Only in the most extreme cases are these collars recommended, but Woofbeach uses them standard on every dog and at least in my case, they did not disclose or ask my permission up front. Please avoid this business and their shady business practices. When responding to my complaint and clear frustration, the manager appeared to read from a script and just kept repeating the same couple of sentences... obviously for legal protection. I could not be more frustrated and since I posted reviews on other forums there has been a large response from other angry customers who had similar or worse experiences. read more

***DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE, shady business that uses negative enforcement training and tools**** Regardless on how you feel about the use of Prong collars for training, using them and any negative enforcement training method should be discussed with the dog owner and approved by them. Woofbeach Batavia was not transparent and did not disclose this information upfront or even after my wife brought up concern of my dog being uncharacteristically scared of the manager/trainer. No ethical dog trainer supports negative enforcement or the use of these collars. I discovered on the last day of training they were basically using the collar to force my dog into submission... my dog is not trained if you have to inflict pain to get him to obey!!! Over $1400 spent to have them be cruel to my dog for a month. I couldn't be more disappointed. Once I saw the collar I immediately removed it from my dog and expressed my displeasure and asked to speak to the manager. The girl trainer disappeared and left me waiting for 15 minutes until finally I just stormed out. When the manager called me, he refused to take responsibility. He only repeated the same sentences over and over about how they are transparent if someone asks them, which was a flat out lie. You are not transparent if you do not disclose this information upfront front or when a customer asks concerned questions about their dog being afraid of you. The use of this collar or any of their negative enforcement training methods were never disclosed to me or my wife or approved by us, but in IL there is no regulation or licensing for dog training, meaning anyone can claim to be a dog training and they do not have to disclose their methods. In my opinion Woofbeach is not qualified to train dogs, they are taking your money and using negative enforcement to push your dog into submission. They are intentionally not disclosing the use of this collar because IL law does not require them to and they know 1/2 their clients (likely more) would never do business with them. The training method does not work and is just plain cruel. Woofbeach is not transparent and instead misrepresents themselves for profit. If you love your pet, please avoid this place and tell your friends and neighbors. On a side note, my dog spent a month there, I still have no idea what other negative things he experienced, and he shows no signs of improvement in his training past what he already knew. Really the only clear behavior change was that he becomes visibly scared when around the manager/trainer. If you love your pet, please stay away from this place. read more

They keep deleting my review because they know they are garbage. Don't go to the Batavia location. I watched them harm 2 dogs and am speaking with a lawyer about breach of contract. Physically harming my dog was not a contract I agreed to and they refused to refund my deposit. Never provided any training and stated I could withdrawal at anytime then refused to refund my money. The trainer is brand new to working in general. Doesn't have the credentials to train and has no knowledge of how to handle a dog without shocking them or dragging them by the neck across the room with the prong collar. The manager, Austin, reached out to me regarding my initial review. To sum up our conversation, he seemed not to understand why their aversive training method is problematic and not applicable to all dogs. Additionally, he was unable to articulate alternative training approaches and insisted that I meet up with either him or another trainer. This lack of clarity raises doubts about their expertise. Like, come on, if you can't explain it, how can I trust you know what you're doing? I brought up the idea that they should've explored non-aversive methods earlier, not after the fact. He kept pushing their lifetime support even though I had expressed and reiterated my discomfort with their approach. I very rarely write reviews, but I wish I'd listened to my veterinarian, who advised me not to use this program. I brought a boisterous, large puppy to their intensive in-house training. I really just wanted her to work on basic commands and early socialization. I ended up with a dog who was awful on the leash if not with prong collar, and became extremely violent with dogs and strangers. Sadly, we ended up returning her to the breeder. If you are looking to make an informed decision on where to get your dog trained, do not listen to the employees at Woof Beach. We took our dog for training and asked several times what their training techniques were like. They avoided giving details about their training to the point of deception. We trusted Woof Beach, but after 5 weeks of training we went for our private consultation, we finally learned that they were using a spiked choke collar on our dog which we had no idea was being used. We consulted our vet who told us that the type of collar used was not appropriate for the size of our dog and should only be used with large dogs. I think they care more about selling the training than they do about letting customers make an informed decision. My wife and I feel that Woof Beach deceived us and took our money. Self service dog wash - never clean, $10 for 10 minutes which means we're in a rush. I can't get my boy clean, dry and sanitize the tub that quickly. The last time I went I spent $20 to give him a good bath and they were out of shampoo! I had to resort to using conditioner as they were closed. I recommend using the self-service dog wash at pet supplies plus. It's the same price for unlimited time, a choice of different shampoos, towels and an apron. They even offer 5 washes for $25! Actual grooming - we took him here about 2 years ago for an annual groom. They did amazing; took care of his shedding, shampooed and conditioned him. He didn't shed for a whole month (says a lot about a husky!) So, once shedding season rolled around we decided to take him again. Once I got there to drop him off they told me it'd be an extra $15 to condition him and brush his teeth. What??? Shouldn't that be included in a $60 grooming visit? When I got him back, he was still shedding and he wasn't even soft! I will not be taking him back here. read more

This review is for the self-wash I do like that they're 24/7 and the machine takes cash and card. The floor was covered with fur but it was on a Sunday so it's possible no one was there that day to clean. The tub was ok, warm water. The panel to keep the doggie in isnt that high so our Aussie shep almost jumped out and hung herself (the small lead in the tub was connected to her collar) and my dad had to catch her and get her back in. I do like that it comes with shampoo, flea shampoo, and conditioner options. Though none of them felt very moisturizing. Her fur was quite dry and rough feeling even after brushing. When it came time to dry the low-blow option wasn't working, which wasn't great considering my dog doesn't like the dryer and we have to use the low setting. She wasn't happy with the high-blow dryer. I do like how they have a de-sanitizing button at the end to clean the tub. I would prefer better shampoo/conditioner, but in a pinch it's great. Especially after a muddy trip to the Batavia bark park beach. read more

A year ago yesterday, we walked into an animal shelter to visit and walked out with a puppy who we named Izzy. She was "perfect" but we knew within the first few days that she was going to need training and we needed help. We started with training at a local pet shop, but it became clear that she was going to need more then what they could offer us. By 12 weeks, Izzy was showing what I would call food aggression (although the trainers are very knowledgeable and will tell you what IS aggression and what ISN'T), didn't like other dogs or certain people, hated the car, couldn't walk on a leash and absolutely loved attacking our cats. She was a bit of a mess but we loved her. We did some research and discovered Woof Beach. Woof Beach has been our saving grace. There are so many knowledgeable trainers. Zach, Jesus, and Olivia-just to name a few. As well as Emily in grooming. They all were so good to our puppy and patient with me who was a nervous nelly. They worked so hard with me to transform this "perfect" puppy into the perfect one-year- old dog she is today. When they say they will work with you as much or as little as you need, they aren't just feeding you a line. I worked hard and did my part (which is VERY important) and they believed my dog could be everything I wished for. They went above and beyond for her. Today, all of Izzy's bad habits are gone. I can't even tell you how many people have told me that my dog is "so well behaved," and they want one "just like her." She really is pretty amazing. We were so happy with the results from the first dog we sent to Woofbeach, that when we got another one, there was no doubt that he would go too. This time we are going to the new Aurora location, which looks like it's going to be amazing. I have had the most dealing with the trainer, Kate. Our family calls her "Kate the Great". My daughter brought her young rescue puppy there for training. Just normal commands, sit stay and how to walk nice on a leash etc. After 6 weeks of training and a lot of money spent the dog became a different dog. We got him back and now he will bite anyone that comes in our house rips cloths and draws blood. I am terrified that someone will get badly hurt and eventually sue us. I talked to some business owners of of pet stores and they also heard horable stories about woof beach. I feel like something happened to him in training that turned him mean or afraid. That's probably the reason your not aloud to be in there during training to watch what's going on. We told one of the trainers what was going on and of course when the trainer came to our house to see what was going on the dog bit the trainer. Have been coming to Woofbeach for the past 8 years. One time they didn't have the clippers charged and totally messed up my dogs nails because they manually clipped them. They were jagged and bloody. But because it was a one off kind of thing, I came back. Today I was running 15 minutes late and was made to wait another 5 minutes when a groomer came up and said that Chrissy would not see me today because I was late. They have a 15 minute policy. And since I was made to wait 5 minutes, it was now 20 minutes late. I asked to talk to Chrissy and was told that she was still bathing another dog and couldn't talk to me. So if I was made to wait and the scheduled groomer was in back bathing a dog at that time, why did she cancel my appointment? I find this very unprofessional! It's now been one year since we brought our four month old Siberian Husky, Juno into Woof Beach, Batavia to inquire about training. We had been referred to Woof Beach by two co-workers who could not say enough great things about them. One of the first things we saw when walking in the door were a dozen or so dogs all out in the open lying quietly on the their own cots. We were both impressed and a little intimidated. We just couldn't picture our little high energy Juno sitting peacefully like that. We only had her a couple weeks but she was already wearing us out. Our first interaction was with Zack who also became Juno's lead trainer. Where do we start about Zack? He is awesome! At that first meeting Zack explained the training philosophy and assured us that when they were done training Juno she would be a well behaved puppy and dog. He offered us the 4 week or 8 week training packages and didn't push either on us. Ultimately, we opted for the 8 week program. We started the training a couple of weeks later and immediately noticed a change. We could walk her on a leash without issue and she was going into her kennel on command. The training continued for 8 weeks, and then 10 week, and then 14 weeks. Juno, was just being a bit stubborn when it came to one command, "come", when off leash. Turns out she's a tad more independent then most, a husky trait. Regardless, Zack and the whole Woof Beach crew continued to work with her four days week, 8 hours a day for several weeks past our contract at no additional charge. They were committed to getting Juno fully trained off leash. We now have a very well behaved dog that is truly a part of the family. The open room training style Woof Beach uses has given us a socially adjusted dog that is friendly around other dogs and people alike. She literally thinks that every person and dog she meets is a potential new best friend. We strongly believe that we only have the dog we have today because of the Zack and whole Woof Beach crew. After reading the other Yelp reviews and checking out their web site, I thought Woof Beach would be a good option for our 15-week old puppy. Our veterinarian recommends introducing puppies to the groomer on a gradual basis (a nail trim one week, a bath the next...all leading up to the big, first hair cut), and having previously had a dog that was petrified of the groomer, I decided to follow the doc's advice. Woof Beach seemed to be on the same page - in fact, its web site states, "Our job, is to make sure your dog has the same experience that makes you go back to a hair salon. We are able to provide a relaxing atmosphere full of love and affection, that will keep them wanting more." Why is it then that both Ella (the puppy) and I left quite traumatized from the experience? Let's back up...originally, my boyfriend and I drove Ella to Woof Beach on Saturday around 3:00 p.m. for a walk-in nail trim. We were surprised to find it closed, and couldn't find any hours listed on the building or on their web site, so we called. The woman who answered told me they worked until they were "done" on Saturdays and were closed on Sundays and Mondays. She didn't ask if she could make me an appointment, so I didn't bother. Ella and I drove back Tuesday morning and found the place open. I explained to the woman working the desk that it was Ella's very first visit to the groomer and she was a bit excited/nervous. She told me to wait by the desk, and I assumed she was getting someone to trim Ella's nails. While we waited, Ella tried to introduce herself to a male staff member who seemed to be loitering around the front desk, but he was wholly uninterested in saying hello to her. At this time, the woman returned with a device in hand, which she plugged into the front desk. She asked me if I would be willing to hold Ella, and I said of course. The next thing I knew, the device - an electric file for animal nails - was whirring and literally shaving away Ella's nails while she screamed, cried and wriggled to get down in my arms. I want to put a caveat in here that Ella regularly has her nails trimmed at home with a Kakadu nail clipper and has never even batted an eye when I've done them myself. She was clearly terrified of the electric nail trimmer, and I myself must have been showing some concern (I was about to tell the woman to stop after only one paw) because she said to me, "It doesn't hurt them. It just tickles. She needs to get used to it." Perhaps that is the case - or perhaps I'll just trim my dog's nails in the future. The problem at Woof Beach was not in their method, but in their lack of care. Not a single employee bothered to say hello to Ella despite the fact I'd told them she was nervous and it was her first visit to a groomer. No one helped ease her into the experience by petting her or speaking to her in a soothing voice. There was no friendliness, no comfort, and certainly no relaxing atmosphere. I could not get out of there fast enough, and once in the car, Ella fell asleep despite having had a nearly four-hour nap before we went to the groomer. She was completely exhausted from the experience. I ended up taking Ella to the Petco in St. Charles that same day for a "meet and greet" with the grooming staff who fawned over her and gave her treats despite the fact we weren't getting any service done. Not surprisingly, I booked an appointment with them - the contrast between the staff at Woof Beach and the staff at Petco was like night and day. My recommendation is to steer clear of Woof Beach. read more

This week when we took one of our dogs, a small Yorkie mix for groom and he was brutally attacked in the neck by a pitbull who was being trained on a cot. My little girl ( 10 lbs) becomes a monster when a groomer tries to cut or dremel her nails. If it is cut, two "football" built guys have to hold her down and she is traumatized. Not so at Woofbeach. Ryan casually walked her to the grooming table and with ease proceeded to cut her nails. She never barked, squirmed, or barked her fool head off as she usually does. When I asked him to reveal how he did it, he said it is all in the way he communicated with her that made her feel calm and safe. And I took a calm pet home. When my wife first mentioned to me she was going to sign up our 9 year old dog for training classes, I laughed at her. We all know the old saying "You can't teach an old dog new tricks".... Well as I sit here and write this my dog Izzy (A 6 pound Yorkie Poo who before thought she was the size of a great dane) is laying by my feet in complete relaxation mode. Just 3 months ago she was barking at any noise she heard and had terrible anxiety when big dogs or groups of people would be close by. Thanks to the amazing trainer Jesus at Woof Beach, who has an amazing talent in working with dogs, our dog Izzy is happier along with our family! For the first time this weekend I was able to take my dog outside put her in "place" laying in the grass without holding on to her leash and have a conversation with my neighbor. Before I was scrambling to put her back inside and close the door as the constant bark drove everyone crazy. Jesus has worked with Izzy and our family to not discipline our dog, but to allow our dog to be trained to enjoy her life more. Most places after getting you to sign up, I assume would just be happy they had your money. Woof Beach and Jesus will call us to make sure we are keeping up with our training and coming into the shop to see how we have been doing. *Which is all included by the way. I have been a single dog owner my entire life and never had any issues until my daughter talked me into getting 2 adorable 4 month old lab/retriever mix brothers from the same litter. I knew it would be a little more work to get 2 puppies at the same time but a few months later - The ate $900 of car seat belts, overwhelmed the neighborhood kids with jumping up to greet them and pulled me on walks. I had biten off more than I could chew. A friend had taken her dog to Woof Beach for groomng and was impressed everytime she had been there, watching the dogs during training. I went thru both the "on leash" training and was so impressed I went thru the "off leash" training. In 5 months, Eric and his trainers transformed my dogs and the way I interact with them, in a way I never thought was possible. Lucky and Buster now go in the car everywhere with me, can be trusted to "behave" when guests come over and I can take them off leash knowing they will still be "listening" to commands when they are out of site. Eric is patient and not only has a wealth of experience but he also understands and can explain the mistakes that dog owners make that create unwanted results.
