The convenient Wheaton location of the facility is great for daycare and they also allow for half-day daycare too. Very flexible scheduling. When I pick my dog up, I can tell that she's received personalized attention from the staff and that she has been well cared for. Often she's been able to work one-on-one with a staff member for nearly all of her half-day session. We also attend the group classes which are incredibly unique and let my dog build up practice interacting with other dogs in a way that reinforce new, good behaviors. My neighbors are thrilled with the progress almost as much as I am - my dog no longer automatically barks at everyone outside now and is able to make new friends. The in home training we did originally was incredibly valuable to get us started on the right foot. We need to do that again very soon! Is it the least expensive daycare and/or training in the area? No. But it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. When I leave my dog in the care of The Canine's Voice I know that she's going to be safe, loved, and will learn a few things while she's there. The classes are incredibly valuable too. The results speak for themselves.

Update: The facility has now reversed its position and agreed to cover the veterinary bills…read more However, they continue to refuse to provide video footage of the incident and have stated that reimbursement will only be issued if I sign a release/waiver. To be clear, the facility did conduct an internal investigation, and my claim was initially denied. I was told they "could not find anything" showing that Tito was injured while in their care. I immediately pushed back and requested the decision be challenged because I wanted to know what actually happened to my dog. I was informed the matter would be sent to their legal team for review and that the process could take 2-4 months. I agreed to wait -- not because of money, but because I wanted answers. Within 24 hours of them receiving a formal inquiry, I was notified that they would now pay the veterinary bills, provided I sign a release. This sudden reversal raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability. This has never been about money. I care about what happened to my best friend while he was under their supervision. What if I hadn't had the money to rush him to the emergency vet? What if I couldn't afford the injection to stop his vomiting or the antibiotics he needed? Those are real questions that matter. What has been most upsetting is that instead of accountability, the facility attempted to shift blame onto me, suggesting my dog was "too old" for daycare. If that was truly the case, he should never have been accepted into their care in the first place. Pet owners deserve transparency, honesty, and accountability -- especially when an animal is injured while entrusted to a facility's care. I would never want another family to experience this. I brought my 19-year-old senior dog to this daycare because it had become unsafe to keep him at home. He is partially blind and deaf. After his visit yesterday, I discovered a large, blood-filled knot near his ear that no one at the facility ever mentioned. I rushed him to the ER, where they had to shave his head to find the source of bleeding. He was put on a 10-day antibiotic and had to receive an injection to stop severe vomiting. I immediately contacted the daycare to ask what happened and why I wasn't informed. Their response was that "no one noticed anything," even though my dog is calm, keeps to himself, and should be closely monitored due to his age and condition. When I went today to pick up his belongings, I informed them he would not be returning. I asked for a refund and reimbursement for the vet bills. The general manager, Diana Rabadan, told me they aren't responsible because I signed a waiver. This injury happened under their supervision--how is that not their responsibility? How did no one notice an attack severe enough to cause a large, bloody injury? I also requested video footage and was told they would "get back to me." If you truly care about your dogs, please reconsider bringing them here. I'm devastated that this happened to my senior dog, and even more disappointed that the facility refuses to take responsibility. Upon review I found this on their waiver. Not sure why they are saying they won't reimburse me for the vet bills.

They are now threatening legal action. I stand by my posts and have not made any false statements. TO THE OWNERS RESPONSE. Don't be sad about my review--be disappointed in yourselves as business owners. Do better. Everything written in your response directly contradicts what I was told in person. You stated that multiple attempts were made to contact me regarding this incident. That is false. No one contacted me at any point. Management only became aware of the issue after I reached out. You also claim my dog was properly cleaned and reference video footage. If such footage exists, please share it--you have my email. His condition upon pickup clearly indicated otherwise, as I spent 45 minutes cleaning feces from his paws once we got home. There is also no reasonable way this could have been "missed." My dog was wearing a large winter jacket that required staff to handle and touch all four of his paws in order to put it on. Staff were taking an extended amount of time before bringing him out, and another employee stepped in to assist with getting him ready. Given that level of handling, it is not credible that feces covering his paws went unnoticed by anyone who was paying attention. Regarding the padding, two staff members explicitly stated it was part of his care due to concerns about him falling as a senior dog. That representation was a key factor in my decision to purchase the Pawdemics service. Lastly, I appreciate the advice suggesting veterinary boarding. However, that recommendation could have been communicated during intake, during follow-up calls, or after I paid for an evaluation. At no point was this raised as a concern. You had no issue accepting my dog despite him being partially blind, deaf, and showing signs of dementia--until after something went wrong. Your response continues to contradict what was communicated to me in person. Again, if you have additional information or footage, please provide it via email. I am absolutely disgusted with this facility and my experience here. I was convinced to place my dog, Tito, in their "Pawdemics" service after being told he would receive constant surveillance and that it would be best for him as a senior dog. I was also promised a padded room for his comfort and safety. None of this was true. The room they described to me is apparently under construction, and instead my dog was kept in a cage with no padding anywhere on site. When I picked him up today, his paws were filled with chunks of feces. I was told he had an accident and that staff had cleaned him up -- clearly, that did not happen. I spent 45 minutes cleaning him myself once we got home. I don't understand how something like this could be "missed." When I raised my concerns, the general manager repeatedly stated that they have other dogs and cannot watch him consistently. If that's the case, why am I paying extra for a service that was sold to me as individualized, specialized care tailored to my senior dog? The explanation directly contradicts how this service was marketed. I asked to speak with someone above the general manager and was told there is no one -- that the owner does not interact with clients. That response alone speaks volumes. This was a complete misrepresentation of services and a very upsetting experience for both me and my dog. I would strongly caution anyone considering this place, especially if you are trusting them with a senior or special-needs pet.

Within just a handful of times of using the daycare service at DePAW (after 4+ years using a…read moredifferent doggy day care, weekly, without incident), our dog got bit and injured by another dog while under the care of DePAW, a bite that tore her ear, damaged tissue and wound up requiring her to be sedated and given stitches. When they called us to tell us about the incident, DePAW told us that another dog had 'overcorrected' ours, when she tried to play with a dog that didn't want to play with her. A professional dog daycare service needs to have the experience and knowledge to separate dogs before this happens - most often bites happen with uncomfortable dogs, not aggressive ones. It's clear that the other dog was uncomfortable in the situation they had the dogs in, and our dog got the worst of it. We feel this was a preventable accident and likely a result of either staff not recognizing the energies of the dogs under their care, or them taking on more dogs than they can handle at one time. A dog who is uncomfortable enough to seriously bite and injure another dog should not be in the same room as a playful dog who wants to initiate play with others. Perhaps even more disappointing on a personal level was the conduct of DePAW in the aftermath, and how transactional and impersonal our interactions with them have felt. When calling us to tell us what happened they never apologized for our dog getting hurt there (I am sure this is a liability thing they are trained to do) and they did not follow up afterwards to see how our dog was doing. We only heard from them after we sent an email expressing disappointment a week later - we did hear an apology then, to their credit. I'm sure we've signed a waiver giving away all of our rights in terms of compensation and vet bills, so we didn't even try to ask DePAW for help with the hundreds of dollars of medical bills we have incurred due to this incident, but they didn't even waive the $35 daycare charge for the day she got hurt. I guess a dollar is a dollar. I don't think I've ever taken the time to write a negative Yelp review when we've had a bad experience, particularly with local businesses, but given this experience I don't feel like DePAW is necessarily a safe or caring place to leave your dog and so for that reason I feel that people should hear our experience. Again, we've taken both our dogs to a different doggy day care for 4+ years on a weekly basis and always felt they were safe and well taken care of by people who were attentive and cared for the wellbeing of our pups. That's not at all how I've felt interacting with DePAW - it feels very much like they care about your dollars, not your dogs. I can't speak to their other services, and I'm sure there are people working here who truly love dogs, but I'd strongly recommend you look elsewhere for safer, more caring and less transactional daycare options.

I brought my dog in, and after about 35 minutes, I received a call saying he was doing well and that they recommended letting him stay longer. When I picked him up, he seemed happy and in good spirits, but I quickly noticed scratch marks all over his body. Since he's a bigger dog who tends to play rough, I wasn't too concerned at first. However, once we got to the car, I saw a small spot of blood on his back, and later that evening at home, I realized he was completely covered in scratches and scabs, as if he'd been clawed repeatedly. I reached out to the management team, and while they apologized, they reminded me to "think of this as a child going to a playground." I understand dogs can play rough, but my dog was covered in scratches and scars. I was told there were no scuffles or fights, which makes it even more upsetting--meaning staff must have seen this happening and didn't step in. We were dealing with food & high value treat /toy aggression, leash & barrier aggressions, and their coming on call (especially when chasing rabbits were more fun situations than coming to mom & dad) was unreliable at best. Enter Kendra at Canine Peace of Mind. Kendra worked with us on the best board & train program for each of them, customizing their 'stay' schedules based on progress and behavioral shifts. We sent both our dogs to CPM from Sept 2018 - Oct 2018. Kendra knows how tough it is to leave your 'kids' for that extended period of time (because she's done it too!) and made sure to send us picture and video updates on how each of them were progressing. Seeing the quick process made the distance so worth it. Fast forward to picking our pups up on handover day and the difference was remarkable. But it was on us to take those skills & discipline home with us. A couple months into having them home (Jan of this year), we recognized we still needed help (user error!) and Kendra did a house call, free of charge, to help us in reigning in & tightening up their training & our/their behaviors. What an immense help as we saw immediate change and are continuing to build that owner/dog trust together. Here's the from / to for our pups and our family: - From never being able to walk in public on a leash for fear of lashing out against another dog (even when across the street) to walking twice a day at heeling position for 2-3 miles a day, despite what we encounter. - From not having reliable recalls in the least, to trusting our dogs (and because we have grown into much more confident dog owners, trusting ourselves) to have them off leash. We love to go get the mail, take out the trash, etc. together with our dogs. - From breakfast & dinner times being HORRIBLE experiences due to fighting, low growling, & crate checking to having peaceful feeding times. - From having no control during high energy times to having a tool & command for them to go to a dedicated 'place' in any room to calm down and give each other (and us) space. I could go on. But what I would say is if you are encountering any of the above issues, please consider Canine Peace of Mind and their board & train programs. As working professionals that knew we didn't have the time or expertise to dedicate in order to get our pups where they needed to be, we are so happy we did. It has transformed the time we get to all spend together from dread to time that we look forward to because it's happy & enjoyable (which is why we all got these guys in the first place, am I right?). They also offer day care & boarding. We have taken them up on boarding a few times as we know that they get a bit more attention than any standard boarding and they are held accountable to their training just as much there as they are at home.
