Matt Tree Services was almost half of what the second one was AND the 2nd one was going to take two days to do it - one to cut the trees down and another for the stump grinding. A Matt showed up when they said they would, did a phenomenal job keeping workers and our property safe, and cleaning everything up afterwards. I would absolutely never recommend this business to anyone. They seemed great at first. They responded quickly, and the guy showed up to create the estimate when he said would. Everything went downhill from there. I assume the two people my husband and I communicated with are husband and wife owners, but whoever they are, they clearly do not communicate with each other. It was a man who initially told my husband that they would be out "early next week," which would have been week of 10/24. Now, a week past that, I was told by the woman that being told they'd be here didn't mean anything because she makes the schedule, and she didn't put us on the schedule until Friday, 10/28. It rained Friday, so they weren't able to make it. They don't control the weather. That's fine. We were told Saturday 10/29 or Monday 10/31. We said Saturday. They said they'd be here. On Saturday, after we texted to find out if they were still coming, they said yeah - they'd keep us updated. They called a couple of hours later today to say that where they were working at in Keller, it was raining, so they were knocking off for the day. Mind you, this was a patch of rain in a confined area. Friday was widespread rain for an extended period. This was not the case on Saturday. My husband explained then that we wanted the tree trimmed so people didn't have issues accessing the sidewalk on Halloween, so if they wouldn't be able to come out Monday (which was the new day given), to please let us know so we could scramble to find someone. He very literally said "please just let us know" at least 3 or 4 times. Instead of just saying they couldn't make it, we were told they'd be out Monday. Today, Monday, arrives and by 10am we haven't heard from them. We reached out to make sure they're still coming and are now told they they're working "today's schedule" and they'll try. I called because I find texting in a situation like this where there's obviously an issue to be unprofessional. I was immediately met with an attitude about how they can't do anything about the rain, and they can't just rearrange the set schedule for the day to accommodate the backlog. There's a few reasons this particular call sealed the deal for me. 1) I was never rude to her. I explained that I understand that they are human, don't control the weather, and that they had a labor issue one day. I, did, however, point out that when the guy originally told us he'd be out, there was no rain. That happened *after* they didn't meet the first time we were told. 2) She kept giving a sob story about a tree on playground equipment, as if it's the end of the world for kids to wait an extra day to play on playground equipment that I'm assuming isn't in shape to be played on anyway since there was a literal tree on it. When I pointed out that they were servicing people placed on the schedule after us before they were following through with the commitment made to us, she very boldly lied and said that it had been on the schedule for Monday for three weeks. You can see in the text messages I've attached where she stated on Thursday, 10/27 that Monday, 10/31 was open for scheduling. Now all of a sudden it's been booked for three weeks. 3) She STILL insisted that she'd "try" to make it out today. When I asked her if she realistically thought that was possible, she again just refused to be honest and say they weren't coming - even though at the very movement she's telling me that, the guy is texting my husband telling him they're not coming. You can see how he unprofessionally he responded when my husband just asked to cancel. We're impatient apparently because we expect a business to schedule honestly and follow through on commitments. The issue is not that the weather caused a delay. I would never leave a poor review that could impact someone's livelihood over something that can't be controlled. I do expect professional communication and honesty from contractors though, and when those expectations aren't met, we end up here. If they had been upfront and given a realistic timeline, there would be no issue. From the very beginning, the dates we were given for them to trim were not adhered to. If they hadn't continued to give us the run around about when they would do what they committed and just given us an honest expectation, I wouldn't have felt compelled to leave this review. They didn't want to lose the business, so they kept stringing us along. To the owner who said he'd be leaving us a review as well (whatever that means). Honest, professional and fair. Can't recommend enough. Came out for emergency issue and had a crew out the next morning. Knocked the job out and when I got home it was like a 60 year old tree had never been there. Tree was extremely close to my house and large branches hanging over the roof. They made my appointment for when I was not there, fortunately I drove up as they were starting, unfortunately they had already cut one of my trees pretty badly. I reminded them of the shape I wanted and the trimming people did not seem to understand. The supervisor showed up when I stopped them and called her, she understood what I wanted but unfortunately my tree was still left lopsided despite the attempt to repair it. They finished and still charged me the full price. When I was asked later about customer satisfaction, I told them I wasn't, hoping they'd come back and fix the problem, but they didn't. read more

Do not use this tree service! This guy cut down a ten year old pecan tree that he was not supposed to take down. He was supposed to take down a small dead crabapple, a cottonwood and one tree that was too close to the house. When I got home he had cut down a beautiful ten-year-old pecan tree that was already nut-bearing and fully leafed. He gave all of my wood and mulch away to a contractor in the neighborhood, and left me nothing. When I asked Allen Matthews about these things he said that he would bring back the wood, but never did. He told me to go to Walmart and buy a $25 tree to replace my beautiful pecan tree. I called and asked him to pay for the tree replacement, and he told me to call the justice of the peace. Sickened over this type of service and the loss of my tree. read more
