While vacationing in Hawaii, my cousins friend recommended we try Leonard's. I believe they have an actual shop, but we were by the food truck so decided to get it from there. I didn't really know what Leonard's was, but I'm glad it was recommended to my cousin. They serve malasadas, which are like donuts, regular and cream filled (my fave). On this day, we were coming back from visiting the Pearl Harbor sight and stopped by in this random lot with a Sears and chili's. There were two other food tricks here, but we had our hearts set on Leonard's. My cousin ordered a dozen malasadas, with two of each flavor. They were being made fresh to order so we waited about 15 minutes while they made our order. The service was excellent and they are really nice and welcoming. I got a chance to try the chocolate cream, vanilla custard, and sugar one. I'm usually a vanilla cream person, but the chocolate cream is probably my favorite. They were really good, especially when they are fresh. I'm glad I got a chance to try this place. Will recommend to anyone visiting. read more

Got my Leonard's Malasada Fix! After shopping in waikele I would always stop by here to get my malasadas! The smell of it will entice you to come over and once you order it, open it and eat it, you'd be telling yourself, "I should've gotten a dozen of them!".....LOL.......overall, this place is really good and make sure you bring extra napkins or your own paper plates if you're going to eat in your car! :) Enjoy! read more

If you're in the area it's a great place to go, the service is much faster but there is a slight loss on quality. Everything was ready instantly which is great, but if you want your malasadas hot and crispy definitely go to the brick and mortar store. read more

Always delicious! But the girl who was preparing our order took FOREVER. Malia or something I don't even remember her name. Young teenage girl with absolutely zero urgency. We waited 30 minutes with only 3 people ahead of us. And it wasn't cause they were making more, she just was slow. Taking orders in between every other order she sent out, why not just pump out the orders and take orders every few that you send out. What a great find! I had these donuts in my Tourist list. Not really excited about visiting their home bakery as it is so hard to park in that area. Finding the truck was super. Doughnuts with holes are overrated. These malasadas were on point. So on point that we had to come here twice. These beautiful pillows of goodness were worth every bite. We've had pateis de nata...but never a malasada. Crunchy on the outside, super soft and pillowy on the inside. Pick your choice of sugar on the outside and pick your filling on the inside. We tried one of everything. My fave? The custard filled with the haupia a close second. They have multiple locations including a storefront but this truck was most convenient for us. They're a little over a dollar each. Served hot. A must stop if you're visiting Oahu. read more

Ya'll. This is the sweet treat you need in your life! A warm, sugary, perfect combination of donut and funnel cake.. just a little cloud of heaven! Original is just the fried doughy deliciousness coated in sugar, but there's also a cinnamon sugar coated and a li hing coated (think sweet n spicy combo, a little like tamarindo candy). Or you can get them filled with custard, chocolate, or coconut cream. I tried all but the coconut cream.. they were all AMAZING. If you're around Aeia/Pearl City, look for the red striped truck and STOP THERE, trust me! Day later update: make sure you enjoy them fresh! Not an "eat some now, save some for later" type of treat. Because the regular store was overwhelmed with a huge line as we drove past, we came across the mobile truck by accident. Because there were only a few people here this was quick. I tried the Li Hing and was surprised with the contrast of sour and sweet in each bite, but I would buy it again. Oh....wow! It can be hard to find malasadas sometimes, but Leonard's truck surs right out in the front corner of a shopping parking lot with eye catching colors. Easy to find location and fast service for fresh, hot, yummy malasadas. Would definitely recommend!

I haven't been to this location in a while - I normally visit the Waikele wagon, but maybe I need to stop at this one more often. The malasadas are typical Leonards, but they tasted a lot fresher than the ones I usually get at Waikele - and I wonder whether the oil was more fresh. If you want the special filled puff of the month, you gotta go Kapahulu, but the wagons always have original sugared, cinnamon sugar, and li hing sugar malasadas, plus dobosh (chocolate), vanilla, and haupia cream-filled puffs. We each ate one right away, then saved a second for later, and even the second one tasted great, which I can't always say for the Waikele ones. We went around 11:30am on a weekday and there wasn't a line. No more than a minute or two wait for the box to be ready. Even though there are some other malasadas on island I like just as well or better than Leonards, this visit was a solid five-stars. read more

No thank you when you pay. No here's your receipt. Nothing. My theory is, this is a very interactive job so please put a smile on your face at least. Or don't work at the front. Such a bad vibe. Came by to get some malasadas (Portuguese donuts without a hole) while my dinner was being prepared. These are fried pastries topped with sugar, cinnamon sugar or li hing (ground seasoned plums). I've had other Malasadas before but these are so delicious! Made fresh and warm and stuffed with creamy goodness. I'll admit the place is hard to find! We were driving in circles but finally bumped into it by driving around the parking lot. It's by the petco! We came in the late afternoon so there was no line and made it easy and got the box of 6. Always a go to for fresh, hot malasadas. This location usually has a shorter line as it's not in town. I always go for custard filled ones as the others usually taste too dry for my liking, but they still do taste fresh. The custard filling and coconut creme filling are continued staples in all of my orders. Worth the try!! read more

Yet another highly recommended Hawaiian stop crossed off! Leonard's is one of the most reviewed dessert shops on the island, and we had to give it a try. It's a lot dingier inside than I expected, but they have a lot of cute Leonard's branded merchandise. Malasadas remind me a lot of the sweet Chinese donuts you can find at Chinese buffets. I'm actually a huge fan of those little donuts, so I expected malasadas to taste very similar...and they do! We ordered the macadamia nut, vanilla, cinnamon, guava, and regular malasadas. I didn't like the cream-filled malasadas at all. The cream was just a bit too dense and artificial-tasting. My favorite was the original malasadas. I also bought two cupcakes because they looked good on display, but I regret buying them. They were also dry and the cream was hard. I would come again to get a whole box of their original malasadas, but I'm afraid that's the only thing I liked from Leonard's. read more

We've been wanting to try the malasadas but the original store near Waikiki always has a line out the door and wrapped around the corner (like an hour wait). So we found their food truck by a shopping center on our way to Hanauma bay and we stopped. Their are quite delicious and a special treat for sure. I will never buy another malasada from this truck, ever. Not only were the malasada over cooked, the customer service was HORRIBLE! Please get this chick away from customers. No greeting No eye contact Barely spoke after I said hello and asked how SHE was doing! Barely handed me my order out the window as she has her head turned away from me. Malasada goodness!!! Go with the original - sugar coated beautiful balls of dough that are perfectly fried and seem to always hit the spot. There are a handful of Leonard's trucks on the island plus the bakery in Honolulu, so it's easy to find some of these awesome treats wherever you are on the island. The BEST donuts I have EVER eaten in my life and I have eaten a lot of donuts. I love donuts so much that I had a donut wall at my wedding and it was one of the most important details of my entire wedding that I told my wedding planner that I would not budge on it and if we had to cut anything at all, it absolutely would NOT be the beloved donut wall. These fluffy pillows are pure heaven. They come out piping hot, always made fresh and filled to order. The texture is perfect, so light and airy, sweet but not too sweet. Just a perfect malasada. My recommendation is getting the cinnamon sugar, and the coconut filled. Those were our favorites.
