Delicious Turkish food! Disclaimer: this is one of the few times I have had Turkish food, so I don't have too much to compare A La Turka to. Regardless, I enjoyed my meal thoroughly! I came with two friends (quite hungry) and we ordered the istanbul burian, feta cigars, manti, and cabbage rolls. Plenty of food with leftovers! Everything was tasty though a bit salty- my favorite was the manti- I loved how garlicky the sauce was. The istanbul dip had a nice robust smokey flavor. I liked the addition of pomegranate seeds a lot! Feta cigars were nice and crisp. The cabbage rolls were also good- quite filling. I loved the creaminess in this meal from all of the dipping sauces! For dessert we tried the Kazandibi. It reminds me of a panna cotta mixed with a creme brulee. The top was ever so slightly caramelized kind of resembling a creme brulee and the texture was like a slightly thicker panna cotta bordering on cheesecake. The pudding itself tasted of cinnamon and vanilla. It was nice to try but I'm not sure I would get this again. The restaurant is a bit loud though nicely decorated. We were sat by the window and it was rather cramped. Only one person can walk through at a time- rather inconvenient if you have to use the restroom mid-meal. I like the lighting at the bar area. This would be a fun place to go for a birthday- they change the music and there is a little parade- very fun! They seemed quite busy and perhaps because our table was hard to access, our waiter did not refill our water throughout the meal. We had to ask and even still there was quite a wait. I would maybe return, but want to try other Turkish restaurants first!

Fantastic!! I felt like I based back in Turkey - the quality of food was that good! The service was excellent - they were very kind and responsive. The ambiance is intimate but pretty casual. We started with the shepherds salad, hummus with pastrami, lentil soup, manti and lahmacun. Then we got Adana kebab and lamp chops. Every item was simply delicious and I can't wait to go back!

Eggplant Shaksuka

Incredible service and great brunch drink deal, I was left just a little unimpressed. $26 for a shaksukathat was a little bland with 4 thin slices of sausage and over hard eggs - I really enjoyed the drinks and vibe here but overall the brunch is pretty standard and $$

Brunch: Rib eye steak and eggs Pancakes Peach Bellini Mimosa

I came here on a Saturday at 1:30pm with a pulsd deal for brunch. We requested outdoor seating but then decided to sit inside to avoid the sun and they have a great seating area with fully open windows on a warm day so it was perfect. My friend and I got a mimosa and Bellini to drink and pancakes and rib eye steak and eggs. The pancakes do come with the syrup already on them so if you would like to control the amount, I would ask when ordering. The rib eye was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed it and the side of fruit was great. I am very appreciative of the fact that though we did 60-minute bottomless, they never rushed my friend and I after the 60 minutes was up and allowed us to sit and chat for as long as we did. It was a lovely brunch.

Decent spot on the UES for Turkish food. Decent but nothing crazy. Ambiance was nice, they had resin countertops and walls, with deep blue furnishings. Service was good as well. We got two salads, calamari and branzino. Salads were nice and fresh, seafood was pretty good. Drinks were flavorful and delicious.

Absolutely delicious food!!! Went here for restaurant week (weekday lunch) and it was really amazing. The restaurant itself is beautiful, lots of people even for lunch time. The service was great, though a bit on the slower side for the area we were sitting at. I felt that the server maybe forgot about us on multiple occasions but the food really made a great impact. Would certainly dine here again. For first course we got hummus with very tasty bread and eggplant shakshuka-- probably the best I've ever had. For second course we chose lamb shank which also had mashed potatoes and eggplant which is different than most restaurants and it really made a difference. The grilled eggplant really made the dish more complete. I really would go back to this place just for the lamb shank. The other entree we got was chicken shish kebab and it was comparable to other restaurants. And lastly for desert we got fig with walnut and it was very tasty. It was the very first time I've ever had it and was hooked. We also got baklava. I really would love to go back to this place again, maybe sometime at night because the restaurant looks very nicely decorated with lights.

Came here for dinner with a friend recently on a very cold night, and we were so happy that the ambience was nice and cozy and warm inside. I was not particularly amazed by the food, but am not sure if it had to do with what I ordered. We each tried the same dish, so I can't speak for the rest of the food on the menu. We got the chicken adana, and I didn't love the consistency of it; I felt it was a little bit rubbery. The side of rice that it came with was pretty bland and lacked some flavor. The environment was more lively than we expected, but we thought that was a fun surprise! They seem to go all out for people's birthdays, so if you like to be serenaded, this will be a fun experience for you!

My boyfriend got the stuffed chicken, I got the chicken Kebob and we shared the falafel appetizer and chocolate pudding + tiramisu for dessert. Every item was soo delicious! One star because the sav blanc was not to liking.

babaganoush

Had a great time celebrating my friend's birthday here! Started off with some good and aromatic bread that went super well with the Mezze Trio. It had tasty babaganoush, Burian, and hummus. I think the burian was my favorite with its creaminess and red peppers. The eggplant shakshuka was different from the shakshukas I've had in the past; their version is less saucy and really just eggplant and tomatoes. All of the apps were well seasoned, but portion sizes were smaller than expected. For mains, the adana kehab (lamb) was very tender and so was the chicken adana. They both had similar spices which I enjoyed and it comes with pickled veggies, chopped dill/green onions, and rice. The only off-putting thing was that ask all guests to not share entrees. While I understand the logistical and financial implications behind this, I think a nicer wording would achieve the same goal. Staff were nice and timing of food was appropriate for a weekday night (not too busy but I had a large party). The decor is cute with a dim environment and an amber marble bar top. For birthdays you can even ask them to place a candle on a dessert (must order) and they will sing/play music for you!

$32 Lamb Shank: magnificent--highly recommend
Kseniya K.

Established in 1995, this restaurant is as old as I am--and I see why they're still in business. Food is delicious, portions are ample, menu offers a lot of choices, to satisfy picky eaters like me. Was happy with everything we tried. $9 lentil soup was hearty and satisfying on a cold Saturday, as snow was covering the city. $24 kusbabi pide [Turkish pizza with meat] was scrumptious: not heavy, crispy dough, flavorful tomato sauce, and perfectly sweet/savory chopped meat. $32 lamb shank was the king of the meal! Huge portion [great for sharing and taking leftovers home] and bursting with flavor. Meat was delicate and delicious. Shank was wrapped in the most delicate roasted eggplant, which elevated this dish. Vegetables in tomato sauce went really well with the complementary Turkish bread--mop up all those juices! Would order this dish again and again. Pleasant environment--pretty stone columns with thematic illumination provide a romantic vibe at night. You feel like you're dinning at a proper restaurant. Friendly and courteous staff. Quick service. Would return to sample more menu items.

Muhammara

I have been to this restaurant several times. All times I am always impressed with delicious food, service and ambiance. Alaturka was renovated and the ambiance is amazing. My last visit, I ordered mummara. It came with delicious buttery bread OMG. It was so delicious and I can't wait to have it again. As a hot appetizer, I ordered lahmacun. I am generally picky about the ingredients of lahmacun. Alaturka is the best. They served 2 pieces. I thought to myself I can keep one later but of course it was so delicious and I could not hold it and I ate all . As an entrée I ordered shaslik. They marinated the steak and it was extremely full of flavor. I couldn't stop thinking about it and I can't wait to go there again.

Kale salad and lemon potatoes

First I will start with I wasn't sure of this place that my friend picked. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the ambiance, food, and service. It was very good. We sampled the feta cigars, the trio appetizer with hummus, kale salad and chicken kabob. All very good. The service was very good as well. Will definetly try again when in the upper east side.

My lamb kabob
Phil H.

My cousin and I went for Sunday brunch. Food was delicious. I enjoyed the lamb shish kabob served with rice, picked red cabbage, tomatoes and a little salad. My cousin had the Kafte Kabob along with side compliments. We both agreed the food was delicious. The atmosphere and dining area was very comfortable and pleasant. Conversation was easy to have without too much background noise. The downside of this visit which cost the star in the review; service was a little subpar. 1st it took awhile to have our order taken, then it took awhile for the food to come despite the restaurant not being completely full and finally the was no "mid meal " follow up. The classic question by the server after you started eating. I appreciate that little bit of effort when dining. Unfortunately this time it was missed. Because of the delicious food we would go back if in the neighborhood and desiring Middle Eastern fare.

Steak of the day which made my day!! :)

Ask the Community - A La Turka

Is the meat you guys use halal?

My guess would be not since it would be advertised as a perk for those who follow that custom. As well, it appears that it's not their customer base in this location.

I heard they may have belly dancers for entertainment on the weekends, is this true?

We have belly dance show with a live band. But it's not on the weekends only on Thursday nights.

I added to my list but didn't try it until this week and I was blown away! The restaurant is lovely and has a great vibe (although it is a little loud due to the low ceilings). Super glad I got to try out NAR and I hope it does well, because the food is straight up amazing. I started off with a glass of the Cotes d'Avanos Narince Blend from Turkey and I highly recommend! It's medium bodied and acidic, with mineral, stone fruit, and citrus, and would go really well with seafood. For food, we began with the mezze sampler, which included babaganoush, muhammara, and hummus. This is a great way to start the meal, especially since Nar serves a delicious bread (crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside) as a complementary starter. My favorites were the muhammara, an intense, piquant spread made with roasted red peppers and pomegranate molasses, and the ever-smoky babaganoush, which was served with pomegranates. The hummus was great, too; I just thought it wasn't a standout. -Aegean Style Cherry Vine Leaf Sarma (stuffed vine leaves, cherry yogurt, pine nuts, currants): Delicious. The savory, salty sarma are tasty on their own, but best when lightly sweetened with the cherry yogurt and tart, juicy currants. -Beyti Kebab (hand minced lamb wrapped in lavash, yogurt, confit tomatoes): This was the most flavorful lamb - juicy, smoky, perfectly spiced - I've had in a long time. The lavash (bread) that it was rolled in was also spiced, the yogurt was cooling, and the tomatoes and bell peppers a fresh and flavorful accompaniment. We finished off the meal with ice cream and Turkish coffee. The coffee took a while, so they took it off of our bill, which was a kind gesture. The ice cream was a different experience! It was made with goat milk, so the flavor was distinct, and it was extremely thick. High-quality and fun to try, but just a little too thick for my preferences.

The chicken Adana sandwich was also quite nice. The chicken was fresh and well seasoned in a good portion with some lettuce, onions, tomatoes as well. The bread was great. It's served with two wonderful, flavorful sauces: hot sauce and yogurt sauce (I much prefer the latter). Portion is incredible for the price. Then, I was initially interested in trying the fig pudding for dessert but they were out of it, so I went with the rice pudding. Again, a huge portion that is well worth the price. So creamy, so good. And, they brought out 2 Turkish teas for free to make up for not having the fig! The people are just very nice here, and the tea was also lovely, piping hot and just perfect. It's a pretty small restaurant but doesn't get crowded early on. They were playing some Turkish music while I ate, and I really enjoyed it.
