Rushed service to the max--from the time you walk in to the time you leave. Every course is on top of the one before it. The service surrounding each course was problematic. The second you sit down, you're asked for your drink order. They bring you a name brand bottle of water instead of offering tap water, which of course goes on the bill. When our waiter removed the appetizer plates, he said our entrees would be out in 5 minutes. We had 2 healthy sized appetizers so I said, we need a little more time. Can you push it out by an extra 5 minutes? And they did. But, as soon as you're done with the entree, a different waiter shows you a dessert plate. I said we needed a little time to decide. She comes back in literally under a minute. I said, you were just here, we need a minute to decide. My companion and I decided on a dessert to share, but less than 2 minutes later, the check arrives by someone else. Case closed! Food was excellent so I gave this restaurant a 3 star, but the extremely rushed service made for a very uncomfortable experience. I've been to this restaurant a number of times and I've recommended it. But it's generally the same feeling each time. This was the worst in terms of rushed service. I had a wonderful dining experience at A La Turka. When I arrived, Ahsan kindly seated me by the window, which I truly appreciated since I always prefer window seating. Yagmur was very friendly and patient. She walked me through the vegan section of the menu in detail and helped me choose my dishes. Based on her recommendations, I ordered the Fasulye (Bean Salad), Falafel, and Eggplant Shakshuka. All three dishes were delicious, and they came with complimentary warm bread--soft, fresh, and served perfectly warm. When the food arrived, Cem, the manager, personally brought everything to my table and explained each dish so I could match the names correctly. His attentiveness and hospitality made the experience even more welcoming. Overall, I had an excellent Thanksgiving lunch at A La Turka--especially meaningful since most restaurants were closed. The restaurant is not only beautifully appointed, but popular. Reservations, particularly over the weekend, are recommended. Meeting an old friend, we were happy to have a comfortable corner booth where we could catch up and enjoy our meals without being rushed. Served with a complimentary loaf of bread we ordered an A La Turka salad which is plenty for at least four people. T and I each chose kebobs. He, lamb, me chicken adana. I vacillated over my choice since another Yelper claimed hers was rubbery. I mentioned it to our server who assured me they'd take care of it if I wasn't happy. I was! Kebobs are plated with rice, uncooked strips of red cabbage and half a grilled tomato. My tomato was mushy. I think a better option would be a variety of smaller-cut grilled vegetables, simulating what one would find on a skewered kebab. My friend chose branzino, nicely fileted at the table. No bones! A server comes around with a cart of desserts. I'm glad I was out-voted with my companions insisting we share two. (I originally declined, but who am I kidding?! ) Rice pudding is creamier than what I'm used to, and delicious. The cake -- is it called "semolina?" -- was moist and coconutty. Very good! There are a number of middle eastern restaurants on the upper eastside. There are others I'd like to try which are less ornate and cheaper, but I'd happily return to A La Turka. read more

Delicious Turkish food! Disclaimer: this is one of the few times I have had Turkish food, so I don't have too much to compare A La Turka to. Regardless, I enjoyed my meal thoroughly! I came with two friends (quite hungry) and we ordered the istanbul burian, feta cigars, manti, and cabbage rolls. Plenty of food with leftovers! Everything was tasty though a bit salty- my favorite was the manti- I loved how garlicky the sauce was. The istanbul dip had a nice robust smokey flavor. I liked the addition of pomegranate seeds a lot! Feta cigars were nice and crisp. The cabbage rolls were also good- quite filling. I loved the creaminess in this meal from all of the dipping sauces! For dessert we tried the Kazandibi. It reminds me of a panna cotta mixed with a creme brulee. The top was ever so slightly caramelized kind of resembling a creme brulee and the texture was like a slightly thicker panna cotta bordering on cheesecake. The pudding itself tasted of cinnamon and vanilla. It was nice to try but I'm not sure I would get this again. The restaurant is a bit loud though nicely decorated. We were sat by the window and it was rather cramped. Only one person can walk through at a time- rather inconvenient if you have to use the restroom mid-meal. I like the lighting at the bar area. This would be a fun place to go for a birthday- they change the music and there is a little parade- very fun! They seemed quite busy and perhaps because our table was hard to access, our waiter did not refill our water throughout the meal. We had to ask and even still there was quite a wait. We requested outdoor seating but then decided to sit inside to avoid the sun and they have a great seating area with fully open windows on a warm day so it was perfect. My friend and I got a mimosa and Bellini to drink and pancakes and rib eye steak and eggs. The pancakes do come with the syrup already on them so if you would like to control the amount, I would ask when ordering. The rib eye was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed it and the side of fruit was great. I am very appreciative of the fact that though we did 60-minute bottomless, they never rushed my friend and I after the 60 minutes was up and allowed us to sit and chat for as long as we did. Absolutely delicious food!!! Went here for restaurant week (weekday lunch) and it was really amazing. The restaurant itself is beautiful, lots of people even for lunch time. The service was great, though a bit on the slower side for the area we were sitting at. I felt that the server maybe forgot about us on multiple occasions but the food really made a great impact. Would certainly dine here again. For first course we got hummus with very tasty bread and eggplant shakshuka-- probably the best I've ever had. For second course we chose lamb shank which also had mashed potatoes and eggplant which is different than most restaurants and it really made a difference. The grilled eggplant really made the dish more complete. I really would go back to this place just for the lamb shank.The other entree we got was chicken shish kebab and it was comparable to other restaurants. And lastly for desert we got fig with walnut and it was very tasty. It was the very first time I've ever had it and was hooked. We also got baklava. Pan fired liver is one of my favs as is the iskendar diner dish (prob spelled it wrong). I also love the stewed eggplant dish that includes a flavorful tomato and onion mix. In the spring it's the outdoor tables for me. I was not particularly amazed by the food, but am not sure if it had to do with what I ordered. We each tried the same dish, so I can't speak for the rest of the food on the menu. Had a great time celebrating my friend's birthday here! Started off with some good and aromatic bread that went super well with the Mezze Trio. It had tasty babaganoush, Burian, and hummus. I think the burian was my favorite with its creaminess and red peppers. The eggplant shakshuka was different from the shakshukas I've had in the past; their version is less saucy and really just eggplant and tomatoes. All of the apps were well seasoned, but portion sizes were smaller than expected. For mains, the adana kehab (lamb) was very tender and so was the chicken adana. They both had similar spices which I enjoyed and it comes with pickled veggies, chopped dill/green onions, and rice. The only off-putting thing was that ask all guests to not share entrees. While I understand the logistical and financial implications behind this, I think a nicer wording would achieve the same goal. Staff were nice and timing of food was appropriate for a weekday night (not too busy but I had a large party). The decor is cute with a dim environment and an amber marble bar top. My last visit, I ordered mummara. It came with delicious buttery bread OMG. It was so delicious and I can't wait to have it again. As a hot appetizer, I ordered lahmacun. I am generally picky about the ingredients of lahmacun. Alaturka is the best. They served 2 pieces. We've eaten here four times in the past few months...and we travel from Queens to do so! I believe I said in my first review that we enjoyed this food more than similar dishes we had at some very fine restaurants in Istanbul. It is an energized yet relaxing place. The waitstaff is friendly and efficient. Most importantly, the food is fantastic. Muhammara is a unique appetizer and a Turkish table staple, it is excellent, as is the fluffy bread you can spread it on. The Turkish spinach is another must have appetizer. Other uniquely Turkish dishes that are amazingly authentic at A La Turka are the manti and, of course, the various kabobs. We've tried nearly all the lamb staples, and enjoyed them all, but also go for the more gourmet dishes such as the lamb shank. It was fall off the bone incredible. read more

Very professional and helpful staff. I asked the bartender if they have one of the best Turkish beer , Efes Pilsen, she told me not only they have "Efes Pilsen" but also they have " Bomonti" which is another great Turkish beer. They charge more for glasses of wine than they do for cocktails. If it's because of tariffs on wine, switch to American but don't start the prices at $17/glass; cocktails are mostly 15-16 and up. Every Thursday starting around 8 pm they have live music that continues with a belly dancing performance, amazing Turkish singers, and Turkish music. The staff here are really friendly and super attentive and the food is delicious. It's a great place to come on a date, with friends or even family. Decided to come here on a Thursday night with some friends visiting from out of town. We had no idea that there would be live music and belly dancing but we were so glad to find out how fun this place is on a Thursday night. We ordered the cheese rolls, the lamb rolls, and the mini lahmachun for our appetizer and were so glad we tried all three because each item was so flavorful and delicious and great portion sizes as well. For our entree we shared the mixed grill platter that is big enough for 2-3 people and come with rice and salad. Loved the charcoal flavor and marination of the meats and how tender and juicy they were. For dessert we shared the kunefe which I'm still dreaming about. It was divine! We've dined here 3x over the past few years--food has generally been good, including service. Unfortunately, on this last visit, we were heavily ignored by the waiter (purposely perhaps because we had a Pulsd deal?). We were never given water, and he waited other tables 2-3x before returning to ours. Upon ordering my third mimosa near the end of brunch time, he instead returned with the check 10 minutes later and with added gratuity (weird, but fine). When I asked about my drink order, he was visibly upset and said I never made the order. When I gently corrected him, he defensively replied it was past the time limit anyway (due to his inattentiveness) and then rushed off grumbling. In his shame, a different waitress returned with my drink and card. To be fair, he was an outlier based on prior good service we've received in the past, but we won't return again nor would we recommend (and based on other poor service reviews, he may be the same person). Get rid of him if he's not part of the restaurant family, and if he is, keep him in the back. Dine elsewhere folks. read more

Second time here and it was definitely better than last time. Since last time, A La Turka went through a renovation. The plates they use & the glasses they use has gone through a revamp. The food has remained the same. The food is nothing special but hits the spot when you're coming for bottomless brunch (60 mins of mimosas, bellinis, bloody marys, and red/white sangria). As a group, we got the bellinis, mimosas, and both sangrias. The sangrias are strong - the fruits (apples and oranges) absorbed all the alcohol and you can tell they did not skimp. Food-wise, we got the burger, sujuk flatbread, shakshuka, and sujuk omelette. The food was okay - nothing special. However, the complimentary bread was delicious - warm and toasty. read more

A La Turka is a very spacious and authentic Turkish restaurant. They hve live music with belly dancing on certain nights as well. The meal started with several appetizers (hummus, babaganoush, feta cigars). Out of these, the hummus was the best, but everything was fresh and delicious. Our main entree was a mix of the grilled meats. For me, the juiciest were the chicken kebab and kofte kebab. Like with the appetizers, the food tested very fresh and the meat was very well seasoned. I think they just opened so we were the only ones in the restaurant. I bought a voucher on Pulsd, which was $39 for bottomless brunch for 2 people. You get 60 min of bottomless drink and each person can choose an entree up to $21. When you make your reservation, be sure to tell them you have a Pulsd voucher. What we ordered: - Bellini's - Eggs Benedict (comes with side salad and fries) - Shakshouka Everything was amazing!! The food was super flavorful. I had a shakshouka a week prior and it was not very flavorful. Our sever, Yunus, was great! He was attentive and always filled our water and filled our Bellinis to the top. I'm sharing my experience as an autistic adult with sensory processing disorder so that others like me have a better idea of what to expect. I'm also vegetarian. My husband eats meat and lived in Turkey for a short time when he was a teenage. He really loves Turkish food and was excited to try this restaurant. We had a 7:30 Saturday night reservation and when we arrived (on time), the hostess asked if the bar would be ok. We said we'd prefer a table and were seated at a two-top in the center of the restaurant. Definitely felt weird that she tried to seat us at the bar when we had a reservation for a table. The tables were super packed in and cramped which is not surprising considering it's the city and they are understandably trying to fit as many people as possible but just be aware of this. If I had known, I might have requested a table near the window or a wall. We were at the end of a row of tables and the servers frequently hovered right on top of us when they weren't rushing past us and banging into each other. The tables next to us looked like they'd be impossible to get up from without asking those around you to move. We received water right away but it took 10 minutes for a server to come over. He told us about the specials and then disappeared without taking our drink orders! The table next to us received and practically finished their entire entrees before someone (the manager maybe) noticed that we hadn't ordered yet and got another server to take our orders. We sat down at 7:30 and weren't approached to order drinks or food until 7:50/55. After that, our new server was thankfully very attentive and the service was a lot better. I have no idea what happened to the other guy. The place is so, so, so LOUD. The acoustics are horrible. I couldn't hear my husband and he couldn't hear me so we basically sat in silence for the whole meal. Plus they had some birthday celebrations and turned the already loud music all the way up to sing. I'm fine with places singing to guests but this was over the top and obnoxious. Don't expect to go here and have a nice, relaxing meal with good conversation. Especially if you have auditory processing issues. There is only one vegetarian entree on the menu but plenty of the appetizers are vegetarian. The food was good. My husband enjoyed it. I wish they had more Turkish wines by the glass. At first we and my friend were going to order an entree and a salad to share and we were informed by the waiter that we had to order two entrees since there were two of us for dinner. Never heard of such a rule before at a restaurant. Then at the end after I had paid the check my friend asked for a bit more hot water in her cup and the waiter refused us, stating that we had been there long enough meaning more than 1.5 hours. This was ridiculous since the restaurant also had plenty of empty chairs at that point and no one else was waiting for service. The manager eventually came over to listen to our complaint about the waiter but really did not listen to us and really did not seem to care. All in all a horrible experience. la turka has the best lamb rolls and lamb raviolis on the upper East side. this goes to show you, that a staple Turkish restaurant on the upper east side gets a 3.5 lol. You can't rely on these ratings. I've been to 4 1/2 stars and they cannot compete with this restaurant . maybe welp needs to update their algo. clowns. good job la turka! keep it up!
