Bread + Babaghannoush + Stuffed Grape Leaves
Jeana L.

Amazing! Such a great choice for dinner right after arriving in NYC! The ambiance was eclectic and intimate. Love the Turkish decor and art. The staff were very nice and attentive. We ordered the Sultan's Plate for 2, grape leaves and babaghannoush. The bread brought out was very fresh, warm and baked nicely! We were impressed. Sultan's plate had a variety of meats such as lamb, chicken, beef, rice, salad, grilled veggies and fries (which tasted fairly close to McDonalds). The meats were cooked wonderfully being moist, easy to eat and seasoned well. The salad and grilled vegetables were great complements along with the rice. Grape leaves were tasty with that nice sour-ish taste to it. Babaghannoush was delicious with that nice neutral taste. Overall, we loved it and plenty of food for 3 people to share. Highly recommend!

Lamb wrap

This restaurant has friendly staff and a great atmosphere. The food was a bit lacking in flavors. The chicken was a bit overcooked and dry and the lamb was okay... nothing amazing like we have had at other restaurants with similar options. The wait for the food to actually arrive was a bit more than expected but the waitress assured us several times that it would be coming out as quickly as possible. They even offered us baklava for the inconvenience. Overall a 3.5 out of 5.

Falafel Platter

Grabbed dinner here on Friday evening. The restaurant was super empty, but the staff were super nice and friendly. We got the falafel platter with hummus and the spinach and cheese borek. The food was honestly great, some of the best falafel I've had. But for $29 dollars, the portion of the falafel platter was criminal, especially for a place that isn't considered fine dining. The salad was also pretty meh. The borek also was tasty, but a very small portion. I would love to come back, but the prices are too steep for me to justify it.

Lamb Adana, Chicken Shish

We came here twice. The first time was amazing - we had the Adana kebab and the shish tawuk , both pictured (we shared). The food was really tasty, the service was beyond excellent. On our second trip, we had lahmacun and mercimek soup - again, the food was unbelievably good. It's a really great Turkish restaurant with authentic taste and it's halal! The Turkish music and the decoration, lighting were all lovely. The service on our second trip was less ideal unfortunately. But overall the food was wonderful regardless. I'd definitely recommend!

My wife and I stopped at Turkuaz Turkish Restaurant on 53rd Street with our daughter and son-in-law before heading to the NYC Ballet (a convenient 15-minute walk away). It turned out to be a great choice for a cozy, flavorful meal. Our waitress, Mary, was warm and friendly, making us feel welcome from the start. We started with Lahmajoun and Zucchini Pancakes as appetizers--both were fresh and well-prepared. For the main course, Mary recommended the Claypot Kebab, a rich and hearty dish featuring lamb meatballs, bell peppers, fresh tomatoes, kashkaval cheese, and mushrooms. It was outstanding--comforting and packed with flavor. My wife ordered the Turkish dumplings (Manti) but unfortunately didn't care for them as much. To finish, we tried the Turkish coffee, which was strong, authentic, and a great way to cap off the meal. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a great spot for a relaxed dinner before the ballet. Overall, a wonderful experience with a few minor misses. We'd definitely return--especially for the Claypot Kebab!

Spinach Pastries

We visited Turkuaz without a reservation and were seated right away in the downstairs area, which didn't have the same charm as the upstairs. The downstairs felt more like a basement with tables and chairs, while the upstairs looked cozy and inviting. For appetizers, we tried the Haydari, a yogurt dish with walnuts, which was delicious and definitely a standout. We also had the Spinach Pastries, which were essentially spinach and feta in an eggroll-like wrap. These were just okay--not bad, but not spectacular. For our main courses, we ordered the Chicken Platter, which came with rice and a salad. The chicken was tender, flavorful, and cooked well. We also had the Falafel Platter, which included a salad and hummus. The falafel was a little dry for our liking, but the salad and hummus were good. The service was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive.

Really wonderfully decorated restaurant! Came in on. Wednesday evening, I first took note of the lights above each table, kind of stained glass. My friend and I split the hummus which came with complimentary bread- additional bread is $5. The bread basket was enough for the two of us and the bread was pretty standard. I ordered the chicken shish kabob. The rice pilaf was seasoned well and not dry, Came with a side salad with light dressing. Finished off our dinner with Turkish tea. Loved it!

Zucchini Pancakes

This meal is insane. Easy 5 stars. Service 5. Be sure to check in to get free Turkish tea. The meal was so satisfactory and delicious. I can't wait to come back. This is a place I would bring my parents. The bread is crispy and fluffy at the same time. The zucchini pancakes for an appetizer are a must. Insane flavor with a great yogurt sauce. The clay pot kebab is absolutely insane. Great lamb with lots of mushrooms. I like dipping my bread in leftover greasy sauce. We went for the kunefe for dessert. I never knew that could be like a dessert until now. So tasty. Crispy corn like flakes on top. Many Turks inside so you know it's good. This says it's $$ but it's quite expensive. Most entrees are $40. We were two people and we got all that for $40. They say tip is not expected.

Downstairs. Not as elaborate as upstairs but still nice.

We have a lunch special for $30 during 12-3:30 on weekdays.

The food is incredible and the service is top-notch in a setting that immerses you in Albanian history and hospitality. The menu is extensive and I found it helpful to ask the friendly servers their recommendations and suggestions. I really enjoyed the sesame baked cheese, mantia and sausage dip as appetizers and saved plenty of room for their mixed grill platter, which is generous and filling; ordering a salad along with their bread will complete any meal and you will leave more than satisfied by the taste and authenticity of all the dishes. It feels like you stepped into a rustic little house that a family lives in. We really appreciated that they were playing Albanian music. The food is so filling and heavy so pace yourself. My husband and I shared the pepper dip and the baked cheese appetizers, which come with freshly baked bread. Seriously delicious. For entrees, I got the tava kosi, which is an egg dish with two pieces of lamb. Honestly I didn't love it. It's a LOT of egg. The lamb pieces were delicious, but I was already so full that I could only have one piece. I wish it had a bit less egg and a bit more other things, but I know this is their national dish. My husband got the qofte shari. It was perfect. Cooked so well, the meat was spiced uniquely, even the fries were great. I think I just ordered the wrong thing! I would seriously love to return and try another clay dish. We finished off the meal with Albanian coffee, which was like Turkish coffee, but smoother and better. All in all, left so happy and full. Service was so attentive, too. Go here for a unique meal in the cutest little restaurant.

The staff was extremely warm, kind and welcoming and a special shoutout to Irem who was amazing, gave us some great recommendations and took care of us throughout. I went for the $39 prix fixe brunch which is honestly such a great deal and comes with quite a spread. I had the muhammara, hummus, shakshuka and dessert and thoroughly enjoyed my coffee too. We also ordered the tuna Niçoise salad, which is by far the best I have had ever. One of my friends was accidentally served the wrong order and they immediately replaced it with the right one and made her meal completely complimentary, which was such a nice gesture and something we really appreciated. We also loved that nobody was rushing us and we could just sit, chat and enjoy our brunch. The only dish that didn't quite work for me was the Mekanek (lamb sausages). While the sausages themselves were good, I found the pomegranate molasses sauce a little too tangy and sour, with the sharpness overpowering the other flavors. This was more a matter of personal preference than anything else. We finished with the Knafe Bil Jibneh, a lovely way to end the meal! Overall, a very enjoyable experience with beautifully presented Lebanese food and plenty of delicious options.

It was a very nice interior, with a trees and stained glass. We ordered the htipiti dip, za'atar flatbread, octopus, brussel sprouts, and shish taouk. Our favorite was the brussel sprouts. They came in a delicious lemon and yogurt sauce with pomegranate, and were very crispy. The octopus was also a standout. It was so tender, and not chewy like other octopus I've had. They told us that it's a 3 day process to make it. The htipiti spread was also very good. I liked the red peppers in it, and it went well with the warm pita and the olive oil and molasses. The flatbread had good flavor but was a bit too cheesy and oily for my liking. I also wasn't a huge fan of the shish taouk. There wasn't much that stood out about it, and it had very strong onion flavor. It was my birthday, and they had also moved us to another table halfway through the meal. As a result, they brought us two free desserts. The olive oil cake was delicious with the strawberry, mint, and whipped cream. The greek yogurt was also very unique, with fig and wine flavors and a sorbet on top. Overall, had a great birthday experience here!

Although I can't comment on the quality of food that I didn't eat, I will say that all of the dishes at the table were incredible simple and didn't feel particularly comprehensive or well thought out. For example, if you ordered an omelette you got a place with an egg on it. If you want potatoes that's extra and if you want sausage that's even extra. It just felt like every plate was not a full meal, it was just one item and you had to build your meal and pay extra if you wanted that. I am not interested in paying these prices and then I have to build the meal myself. My French toast was fine I guess. I order sausage and paid $9 for a singular sausage link on a plate with absolutely nothing special done to it. I can literally buy two packs of the same sausage for the same price. I don't recommend this place, I think they do the bare minimum.
