Had delivery for a family of 6. I had the Buffalo chicken salad. Loaded with tangy breaded chicken breast cut into "just right" sized pieces. Lettuce, tomatoes, celery, bell peppers, shredded cheddar cheese and containers with enough ranch dressing to generously cover the salad. Another person had chili cheese steak and fries, another person had a chili hot dog, another had a cheeseburger and a younger family member had a kid's meal. All of the food was delicious and delivered in a timely manner. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Came on a Friday. Is this site closed for good? Inside looks semi cleaned out. On Yelp it said it was open. Bummer!

Had this for lunch yesterday, and I've gotta say that I really enjoyed it . I've been trying to explore Gilroy more, so it's nice to know I have a go-to place to grab a quick bite that's close by! Good service is ALWAYS a must for me, and this place has just that! Right when my boyfriend and I walked in, we were already greeted with warm smiles. They were very pleasant and helpful. They would also check in with us throughout the meal to make sure we were having a great time. The food came out fairly quickly and I chomped everything down. So tasty! We got the Californian Cheesesteak and the Garlic Fries which was definitely great to split between the two of us (portion sizes were def fair). The only gripe I have is that I wish the garlic fries had more garlic . I'm a garlic gal after all! Might ask them for a bit more next time. Will definitely be back for more good food!! read more

I like their buffalo wings. I asked for them well done and they did a great job but they gave me all flats and no drums which was kind of disappointing. I didn't ask for all flats. I've tried their Philly cheese steak sandwich and it was okay. The meat didn't have enough flavor for me and I didn't taste any cheese so I suppose I would ask for extra cheese if I ever ordered it again. Their fries here are shoe string fries. I ordered a side of regular fries they gave me a whole half to-go box full. For sure sharing size. What a bang for your buck. They have a small area to sit down and eat inside and small area outside. read more

The garlic fries were excellent, as they should be when your restaurant is located in the garlic capital of the world. Also ordered the pastrami burger without mustard. They forgot the grilled onions, but it was still juicy and delicious, and large in size. Minus 1 star cuz they didn't get my order right... but otherwise everything was good and tasty. And the restaurant setting and staff were welcoming even near closing time. read more

Oh no...I'm not sure they're still open. They've been closed the last couple times I have gone by during normal business hours, and yelp indicated they should be open. We went by around 5:45pm last Saturday afternoon. They looked like they might be out of business. Calling their phone--it immediately transferred to a voicemail " that is not set up"¯\_(ツ)_/¯ read more

Great place - you are greeted immediately as you enter into the place. The place was small but had 6-7 small tables and SF Giants memorabilia hung on the walls. We tried the A-Jay's Classic with extra meat. When the sandwich was cooked, she brought it to the table. Great service! The sandwich was piping hot, and when you took a bite out of it, it was a nice clean taste. Not greasy like some other places. The bread was nice and soft, though, a bit bready. If you got the sandwich to go, it would hold up and not get too soggy. If that makes sense. French fries were normal. Good crunch and super hot. good portion but pricey. read more

Solid cheesesteak place! Good quality steak, cheese, bread, toppings... I ordered the Mushroom Bell Pepper Cheesesteak (4 stars). Everything was properly prepared, onions and peppers cooked into the meat, nice caramelization on everything then covered with White American cheese. Then swept up onto the bread, wrapped tight in paper to sealing in all the juices. Good stuff! Plenty of hot sauces to pick from, a mix of Louisiana and Mexican. Until next time... Notes: Try Hotdogs, onion rings, covered tots.. read more

Came here for a quick dinner. My husband got the south country cheesesteak sandwich which I think he loved cause he ate it all lol and I got the tuna salad with blue cheese dressing. The portions are pretty big. I had tuna salad for two meals! Really generous with the tuna which I loved. We got curly fries too and portion it was big as well. Price and staff were good too! The place is a bit small so we sit outside but we didn't mind it :) read more

This place is a solid go to! Best Philly Cheesesteak this side of Philidelphia, hands down! The portions are enormous, careful how many sides you order lol The staff was very friendly and super helpful when ordering. The food came out very quick and did not disappoint at all. The chili was so good, I couldn't stay out of the chili cheese tots and was barely able to finish half of my cheesesteak. That never happens! The prices were extremely decent for the portions we received. Everything is made in house and is as fresh as fresh can be. What a treat! Highly recommend!! 9.4/10 read more

The food tasted ok. But it was off put by the disgusting sanitation of the front lobby. Even worse than the front lobby is the front patio sidewalk. All of the other vendors in the court, clean their sidewalks. This one has flies growing on theirs. That's why I can't give them, a 4. If the place was clean, the food might not have been as hard to swallow. read more

Well for a filling and fresh authentic Philly style Cheese Steak this is the place or it's counterpart in MH. They changed to Krinkle style fries but the grilled garlic hasn't changed! This place is so yummy!!!! Me, the hubby and daughter came for a late lunch/dinner. It was so delicious. I got the classic with cheezwhiz ( I had to do it right), and the hubby got the pastrami with hot peppers. The bread was so soft and the meat on both was nice and tender. 1st time having an authentic cheesesteak and it did not disappoint! We both couldn't pass up getting the garlic fries. perfect amount of garlic and crispy. Service was great and the cashier did inform us that it'll be a little bit of a wait because everything was cooked to order, which was no problem. Ambiance was good. good amount of seating. With respect, I've been coming here for years and have never been treated so disrespectfully. Getting my order wrong and overcharging I can understand. But to jump down my throat about how many condiments my husband wants to grab when we're spending $30 per person? I had no idea you were harboring ill will towards us all these years. As you went out of your way to tell us that we do this every time and that we are somehow disrespecting you by not asking for what is freely available over the counter. Most particularly the Gilroy location. You are petty. And you've lost a customer. Two decades of patronage gone. Somebody else mentioned that maybe it's because it's run by Latinos now that customer service has gone down and stupidity has gone up. I refuse to believe that. I do believe that this current team is not customer Focus and they're all about the nickel and dime profits. And have entitlement now they are cooking indoors and not in a truck The food itself has gone way down. Very little steak with very little cheese. They make you pay for double to get any flavor or ingredients. My onion rings were burnt! And they charge for a ranch not even one with your $10 onion rings. read more

This review was for pre-COVID-19. Tee and I came here after 12pm on a Sunday 1/19/20 and there were a couple of people here. The menu had a lot of items from cheese steaks to burgers to hot dogs. We ordered the A-Jay's Classic ($9.25), the Mushroom ($9.75), an order of fries ($4), and two sodas ($2.50 each). The food came out after a few minutes since they were cooking them. The A-Jay's Classic tasted good to me as well as the Mushroom cheese steak. The amount would make most people full. The fries were nothing special and one order could be shared by two people or be finished by one hungry person. I would come back to try other items on the menu. read more

I used to work for the A-jays in Morgan hill, different owners but both ajays were set to a standard. The cleanliness and sanitation at both places are fantastic. I really wanted to like this place cause it's a small business, but it was average at best. I ordered the bacon cheese steak and the cheese steak fries. The sandwich was ok, not really super flavorful but the steak was juicy. Although I didn't care for the type of roll they used, it was too thick. As far as the fries, way too much cheese whiz and I found a couple small bones in a couple of my bites. Didn't finish the fries...... read more

Hands down best authentic cheesesteak in a 100 mile radius. It is so hard to find a place that uses cheese whiz or at least has that option yet Ajay's delivers. We order the classic cheesesteak with cheese whiz and it was pretty amazing. We split it and I think I can comfortably say I could finish one on my own. The meat was season well, and tasted very flavorful. It was sort of peppery and spicy with the sweet peppers. The cheese whiz which gives it that authentic Philly cheesesteak flair really highlights the whole sandwich. Parking was not that easy on a weekend but they do not offer any sit down service. It's pretty much a to go window with a couple outdoor seats. I would highly recommend anyone looking for an authentic Philly cheesesteak to seek this place out. read more

Ever since A-Jay's in Gilroy changed ownership the quality in their food and their customer service has gone completely downhill! I ordered a pepper cheesesteak with very little cheese and meat its tons of bread. My husband ordered a beef melt which was not toasted, our fries were extremely under cooked when I say extremely like maybe halfway cooked if that. The fries were so undercooked they all stuck together in a ball as one clump instead of individually fries! I removed the meat from my sandwich to reheat and add cheese "it's call a cheesesteak after all" and this is the amount that was give in my sandwich, it's like I'm eating bread. We had to toast my husband's beef melt. For what they charge we paid over $34 to have undercooked food and spend our time recooking food we paid for! We will never return to A-Ajay's in Gilroy ! read more

It's really unfortunate because I've ordered here before without issue. I submitted and order online for same day pick up but it schedules it for the next day. I called AJ's and they server informed me that he knew nothing about how the online service worked. I then found a way to cancel the order online (or so I thought) and placed my order over the phone. I then received a notification the next day that my order was ready for pick up We've confirmed your order from A-Jay's Cheesesteak Gilroy. Your food should be ready for pickup between 11:15 AM - 11:25 AM on Monday, October 21 at 1340 1st St. Your order from A-Jay's Cheesesteak Gilroy is ready for pickup. I called AJ's hoping to resolve the discrepancy but was told they couldn't help me. The customer service was horrible. I guess this is what you get nowadays from businesses, just basic transactions and polite thank you and no real interactions or effort to resolve issues. I will never eat at this place again. read more

I have been to the one in Morgan hill, and today is my first time here. The restroom leaves much to be desired in terms of a place to hang a purse, or stick on a shelf or table in there. Other than that there's more seating at this location and the food is just as good. I just wasn't happy about the multiple strands of brown hair in my food. I looked up and saw the chef in the kitchen with short brown hair, which matched the ones I pulled out. I can only finish half the Californian when I order it and the Morgan hill location gives you a to go box to stick the sandwich in but this place asks to wrap it up for me and how my meal was which was cool. I said I found some hairs in my food and they asked to make things right by giving me another sandwich but I'm not trying to get spit in my new sandwich so I declined. I'm not the kind of person who ever sends food back or that kind of thing. I just hope their chef puts a hat on, for sake of future customers, though I'm not likely to come back here. read more

WOW THIS PLACD IS AMAZING. Love how they prepare their food. Great flavor, nice variety, and would love to try more when I come back

Mmmm mmmm good. Came in with wifey and pops after searching Yelp for a good place to eat. A-Jay's had high marks so I figured why not? Walking inside we were immediately greeted and asked if we had any questions about their menu?then the lady behind the counter started to share with us things that were on her menu. She told us they had 3 different cheeses available and you you can add things like hot peppers, grilled onions, mushrooms, green peppers etc. They serve bottled beer, bottled soda, bottled water, and they have fountain drinks as well. I ordered the teriyaki cheesesteak with mushrooms and grilled onions, $9.50, the sandwich bread is slightly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. They gave me tons of meat, cheese, grilled onions, and mushrooms. The sandwich was also nice and hot, the quality of the meat is outstanding and needless to say the sandwich was delicious. Side note: the man behind the counter saw that Pop's was in a wheelchair and went out of his way to go around the counter and held the doors open for us. Bottom line: great service and fantastic food, if you have never eaten here, I highly recommend you do read more

I have been going to A-Jay's for years, Including the Morgan Hill (new owner)location. EVERYTHING on the menu is great! My favorites Cheesesteaks are: The Dodgers Suck A-Jay's Classic South County Californian (Chicken) Burgers A-Jay's Pastrami Blue The patty melt is awesome. Their ranch is the BEST!! Get extra sides. Their fries and rings are tasty. The food is consistently great. The wait times are reasonable. I mostly order takeout. I continue to go there, on a regular basis. read more

Bought a South County because I love mushrooms and garlic. Super disappointed. The mushrooms were completely dried out. Equivalent to dehydrated mushrooms. Super tough and not edible. I had to pick out all these mushrooms. Dinner ruined. Called to let them know and I was told they make "fresh" and they'll let the cooks know. No offer of remaking it or a refund. Got lunch after a fishing trip to Calero and I must say the Philly Cheese Steak was delicious. But the real reason I went there was for the garlic fries. Yes, these are close to the quality of garlic fries you get at the SF Giants games. Same carmelization on the fries. The garlic could have been sauted a little, but they were crazy good. Will go back to get more garlic fries. Yummm. *sorry no photos. I was hungry from said fishing trip haha read more

Made a quick stop to grab some Garlic Fries when in Gilroy, but these fries weren't as flavorful as I hoped for. The garlic wasn't even distributed throughout, and lacked a little salt too. Quality service and quality cheese steaks/sandwiches! I have had food from the Morgan Hill location, but this was my first time at the Gilroy restaurant. Everyone on staff I interacted with was super nice. I was the person who came to A-Jay's and didn't order a cheese steak. Instead, I got the pastrami sandwich. No regrets! I'm working on my spice sensitivity, so I struggled with the peppers in the sandwich. I ordered the cheesesteak with mushrooms and bell peppers with provolone cheese. I wasn't impressed with the meal. It was lacking cheese I felt like and even worse it was so salty. Too salty. Like stop pouring seasoning on the steak. I would have given 5 stars if it was not seasoned and had more peppers and cheese in it. I mean some of the bites were so salty I had to stop chewing to determine if I should spit it out or not. read more

A-Jay's Cheese steaks are delicious! I've always gone to the Morgan hill location and I gotta say, this Gilroy location is just as tasty, even via DoorDash. I always do the classic cheesesteak with onions and peppers and of course, cheese whiz! However, the trick for me here is opting light on the whiz, as it can get pretty darn messy with all that ooey gooey golden goodness!!! When I'm feeling spunky, I'll add mushrooms to my order, but keeping it classic is the way to go! The hoagie itself is pretty large! About 8 inches long and 4 inches in width! I really appreciate how they cut the hoagie in half so I can devour half now and save the rest for later. Their fries are also amazing! They're seasoned fries, so they taste like straight curly fries, without the curly factor. For pickup, the staff have always been friendly. For delivery, they are quick and efficient and order is always correct. If you haven't tried and don't know what to order for lunch or dinner next, give A-jay's a try! read more

Came here after Gilroy Gardens and got the mushroom cheesesteak sandwich's. The bread was pretty good but the inside filling was kinda dry. Compared to the Cheese steak shop in SF I think this isn't as good. As I'm writing my second review of the day, I realize I order out quite a bit as some days I prefer cooking more than other days. Yesterday I ordered a mushroom cheesesteak without the grilled onions. It comes with cherry peppers which adds a nice kick to it. Usually I have provolone on my cheesesteak from A-Jays, but glad I went with cheese whiz this time. Usually when I order with provolone, the sandwich is still solid with lots of meat, but seems to need a bit more moisture or a bit more grease. I've added extra cheese in past to make up for it. But yesterday with the cheez whiz, it was better & tastier although a bit messier to eat. If not too hungry or for a heavy snack, you can share the sandwich. I also ordered the sweet potato fries. The flavor was there but looked burnt like it needed one minute less in the fryer. I would return when craving a heavier sandwich in area. I usually call it in as DoorDash pick-up charges more than just calling it in. I like how they always confirm that you want to pick up in Gilroy location as I've made mistake before of placing order at the wrong location before - the Morgan Hill one! read more
