Stoped by on a Sunday night, surprised to find we were the only ones there. We were greeted and told we could sit anywhere. The server took our order and brought out chips and salsa, but left before I could order some guacamole. A short bit later she came back and we ordered dinner and my guacamole. I had the steak and shrimp, which was slightly over cooked but had a lot of flavor. My friend order a combination plate and enjoyed it very much. The menu was limited but offered a decent selection of seafood and combination plates. Pretty standard stuff. Prices were reasonable. Only beer, wine and soft drinks. No hard liquor. I was in town visiting Gilroy with my boyfriend and his family. The waitress (curly hair, glasses, tall, young- looking and had a bit of a broken accent) served us with our order. Firstly, her attitude was nasty. She was extremely snappy and unpleasant. My boyfriend's dad, out of curiosity asked her, "is there a car show going on today?" He asked as we were visiting Gilroy and it was our first time there, she then responded with, "those are just cars driving down." With a nasty attitude. While taking orders she asks my boyfriend, "and what do you want?" In a snappy tone. Overall, her attitude made the experience here terrible. Secondly, the rice/ beans were cold when they got to our table and at that point, with the bad attitude of the waitress. We just wanted to get out of there. We stopped in to eat here during the Gilroy wine walk a while back after having a few drinks and feeling parched and starving. The food and service were pretty good. I got the camarones a la diabla. First let me start by stating that the service was great, our server was super. This review is based solely on the food. We stopped in on our first night in Gilroy after a long day of traveling. We were famished and hoped based on the reviews that this would be a home run. We walked into an empty restaurant and thought maybe it was empty because it was 3:30p. Chips and salsa came out-the salsa was delicious, spicy and full of cilantro. The chips were stale tasting. As we sat and waited, we realized that there was one person cooking and serving. Our food came out one or two dishes at a time instead of as a group. My husband ordered chilaquiles, I ordered the cheese enchilada and shredded beef taco. The chilaquiles came out and looked awful. It was not saucy like a regular chilaquiles plate, it looked like they scrambled the eggs in the sauce, no cheese, no crema, nothing. It was not the spicy, delicious flavor of a chilaquiles that we were seeking. The shredded beef was dry, and the shell tasted stale. The enchilada sauce tasted canned. Our parent's meals were similar in quality. My mom was sick that night-she ordered the nachos. The meal was a letdown. We wouldn't be back. read more

I came here with some coworkers after a training we had in Gilroy. For lunch time around 1pm, it wasn't too crowded so for a group of 6, we were able to sit right away. The server was this older lady and super sweet! She took our drink orders right away and gave us recommendations on the best dishes. The prices were also decent and the plates came with plenty of food. I got the lunch special of the chicken enchilada which comes with rice and beans. When the plate came the enchilada was just buried under everything which all made for a delicious meal! Our serve was also very accommodating and allowed us to stay 30 minutes after our meal so we could conclude our meeting and even refilled our drinks. read more

I walked into this lil Mexican restaurant and immediately felt extremely calm and relaxed like I was sitting at my grandma's house. Dimmed lighting with large windows is not so overwhelming. A gentleman reading a morning paper and enjoying a bowl of menudo , 7 older couples chatting quietly and enjoying their huge portion sized breakfast, mixture of Spanish and English conversing . It's very comfortable here. As for the food - HUGE portion . Chilaquiles is huge. Fried tortillas mixed with eggs was tasty with a little kick to it and the rice was fluffy and flavorful. My friend taught me how to make Mexican rice and it's not as easy as it looks . It can turn out soggy if not careful. Theirs is super fluffy and I know it's hard to make it like that. This restaurant was recommended by an employee of the hotel where we staying. He indicated it was a very good family style Mexican, maybe his family, but not ours as it turned out. We received complimentary chips and two salsas, both were thin though one tasted much like a pico de gallo. My wife and I each ordered 2-item combinations with chicken enchilada and chile relleno that included the typical rice and beans. We decided to get some food in Gilroy before heading to our destination and we found this cute gem! I was going to get their camarones y steak but decided to get their chorizo with egg plate and my BF got enchilada Suiza. The server was a very soft spoken and very kind and attentive. I really love these ladies. They are serving up delicious, hot, satisfying well flavored Mexican food. There's love in it and you can taste it. It's the family favorite for Chile Verde. The salsas are excellent as well. One fresh and one more deeply spiced and saucy. The refried beans and rice are solidly good, not forgotten like some places that will give you very bland sides. My only request would be to add a better salad with improved salad greens. I would feel better downing those two big enchiladas, my beer, and rice and beans if I started with a legit healthy salad. The shredded beef taco was outstanding. They fry their taco shells- not store bought. The meat was not dry. Tamale was ok. I like mine with more meat in it, but the sauce was good.
