This is my second time eating at this restaurant located near 1604/I35 and when we went in , it was freaking packed! Now that's how you know its good asian food! I was craving pho and bun bo hue so i asked the server if I could order pho noodles( with meatballs and steak) but in bun bo hue broth. Was recommended by a friend if we were to visit to try them out. Ordered variety of appetizers and main courses...some were good and some were not.... Pho Ap Chao Beef - the best dish that we ordered. Beef was on point and the noodles were not as oily compared to others I've tried. Bo luc lac- beef lacked flavor and was a bit tough Com Chien Dac biet- pretty normal combination fried rice..I would order again Bo Bo Hue- I wouldn't ordered it again Goi Cuon- the rice paper was starting to have that dry feel, which I assume they were pre made. House Special Shrimp Eggrolls- pretty good, but for nearly $13...I'll pass next time. There was more that was ordered, but overall not bad. After searching near and far...I have finally found a pork vermicelli dish that I am seriously addicted to. I have been disappointed so many times in so many cities with fatty, flavorless pork. I am so happy to have found this place so close to home. The pieces of pork they use are meaty and charred perfectly. Underrated!!!!! Are you kidding me yelp!? The crappy Vietnamese that I have consumed around Texas has been a tragedy. My significant other and me hesitated coming here bc of all of our horrible experiences... So we arrived, were greeted, seated and served water. We reviewed the menu and I were 1000000% skeptical as there were Chinese dishes on the menu. That is usual a great sign that the place will be a disappointment. I had the General Joe's chicken lunch special, it was okay but not great. It had a lot of sauce if you're in to that but it didn't have much flavor. This place is little and there was a lady who had ordered take out she came back twice because a mix up in the order. The chicken lo main was pasta noodles that were not cooked well. Very bland chicken not seasoned at all I doused it in hot chili oil just to give it some flavor. The pork glass noodles were good but comes with a vinegar sauce that is used also with the appetizer rolls. Oh and good luck getting any sort of customer service we ordered are drinks and couldn't get them till the main meal came out. We asked for hot oil and got a tiny bit not even enough for both of us to use. Had to flag someone down and he got to me after seeing me flag him down went to the back came back out a few minutes later and asked if we needed anything I told him we needed more hot oil. This was my first visit here in many years, and it was mostly good. This order was to go and I found the menu a little hard to navigate, as it is not separated Chinese/Vietnamese, and has no good copy online to preview. The Vietnamese spring rolls were outstanding, they were fresh with lettuce, bean sprouts, cilantro, and cucumber on the side. I had 5 spice duck that didn't have the tough frozen texture that you find at some places. The duck was on the bone and about perfect and was accompanied by an unneeded thin sauce, and a really nice pickled cabbage. The only miss step was the hot and sour soup that was cloyingly sweet and too thick with corn starch, most of that went down the disposal. The counter help felt mostly mechanical and I didn't feel like there was a smile behind the COVID mask. We will be back for the spring rolls for sure but never again on the soup. read more

I continue to eat here because the food is absolutely to die for. Authentic, delicious pho with clear, flavorful broth and choice meat. Vermicelli bowls packed with flavor lots of noodles. The Vietnamese egg rolls are one of my favorites - so crunchy and delicious. But if I crave the food, I most often order to-go because eating here puts a damper on my mood. The front desk staff (usually one very old man) ignores you when you walk in. It's impossible to know if or when you'll get seated. The waitstaff is disinterested and rude. We once came in about a half an hour before closing (plenty of time to order and eat before closing time!) and our waitress opened the conversation with, "we're getting ready to close, so..." Just plain rude. If you want delicious Vietnamese food you'll get it here, just don't expect a great dining experience. read more

This restaurant has some of the authentic Vietnamese dishes that's actually pretty on point in regards to flavor. The pho is very flavorful and HOT (temp wise). Some restaurants will have the soup hot but then it gets room temp warm quick, I hate that. My fiancé got the hu tieu and I honestly didn't expect the broth to be delicious. Most places focuses on one broth and the others are usually just "eh". But the hu tieu broth was packed with flavor and so clean it was refreshing. I almost made him switch with me! The portion size for the hu tieu though was a bit disappointing. I wish they had difference sizes to order. Their shaken beef (bo luc lac) is great as well. Kind of pricey for the amount they give. Another favorite of ours is their salty fish and chicken fried rice. Gotta say, this is a gem in central Texas. This place is my go to for many things: When I'm missing my relatives - Many asian families frequent this location! And on those days where I'm not in the mood for soup, I order vermicelli. Their Vermicelli is good enough! I recommend their chicken pho, though my boyfriend prefers their beef (as does my mom). Their fried rice is pretty good, it's not as oily or salty as other places. The bbq ribs from their appetizer menu takes a while to prepare, so be prepared to eat it in conjunction to your entree. They serve Tsingtao here if you're into that. Their spring roll is a cute appetizer to share. Friend dumplings are alright if you have a lot of people. Their sampler is amazing and way too much for just two. The staff have always treated us nicely. I'm very fortunate to have this on my side of San Antonio. Yeah, no. It was hot and humid both inside and out. They wouldn't allow us to sit outside where we could at least catch a breeze. The bathrooms were disgusting. The waiter was rude. They charged dinner prices for a dish on the lunch menu because they were some how "out" of the lunch portion... I'll let you figure that one out. I went to A Dong with my cousin yesterday and we had a great time! Once we arrived we were immediately greeted and seated at one of the booths. For drinks we got the lime soda which was delish! For food, I got the Com Bi Cha Thit Nuong which is a rice plate with shredded beef, pork cake and grilled pork. My cousin got the Bun Thit Nuong which is vermicelli noodles with grilled pork. First of all, the food was delicious the only thing I recommend is cutting the grilled pork into strips because they cut the pork into thick big rectangles but it's not a huge issue. We also got the Chew Chao shrimp egg rolls which were fried to perfection and the shrimp was savory as well. While we were eating I finished my lime soda and our waiter immediately asked if I needed a refill. (Which was free) I loved that! I have a habit of drinking a lot of fluids while I eat so free refills are a great thing to have. I've been to this place maybe once or twice when I used to live in San Antonio. I've been coming to here more often now since this is my girl friend's family's go-to restaurant for family gatherings. I've had several dishes at this restaurant. My favorite one so far has been the Shaken Beef (Bo Luc Lac) and their chicken wings. My girlfriend's family felt bad for me when we went out to eat because I'm allergic to shellfish and couldn't eat any of the usual things they ordered so they got some wings for me. I was a little disappointed by their fried rice. It tasted pretty dry to me. I think they should redo their fried rice recipe. This isn't a bad place to go if you want to have a small gathering. I don't know of any good Asian restaurants in San Antonio but this is probably one of the better ones that I've been to. Also the prices are good. You can feed a lot of people for a good price. Some other notes I have about this place are: -They can use a TV somewhere in the restaurant -The patio area is nice but I've never seen anyone eat back there. Everything we've tried so far (fried rice, various phos, various soups, and various appetizers) has been good. There isn't a wow factor to it, but it works for daily quick experiences.
