I stopped at A Dong Vietnamese Restaurant around 2 PM on a Monday and was surprised to find it still fairly busy despite being well past the typical lunch rush. The dining room was clean and pleasant, although the restroom could definitely use some additional attention. I was seated promptly, and the staff efficiently took my order. I went with the pho with brisket, meatballs, and raw beef along with an order of Vietnamese egg rolls. The egg rolls arrived quickly and were easily the highlight of the meal. The order included six medium-to-small egg rolls along with a separate plate of vegetables and herbs. I initially mistook the vegetables for the pho garnishes, but they were actually meant to accompany the egg rolls. The rolls themselves were excellent--very crisp on the outside with a flavorful, savory filling--and among the better Vietnamese egg rolls I've had. The accompanying sauce paired well with them too. My pho arrived shortly afterward with the more traditional plate of cilantro, bean sprouts, and other garnishes. Interestingly, there wasn't a bottle of hoisin sauce on the table; instead, they brought a small portion in a dish with the pho. The broth was very good and had plenty of flavor on its own. Of the meats, the raw beef slices were my favorite and exactly what I want in pho. The brisket and meatballs were fine but didn't stand out nearly as much. Between the pho and six egg rolls, this was also far more food than I could finish by myself. Service was efficient but could have been a little more attentive during the meal. At one point the waiter tried to take away the vegetable plate from my egg rolls when the pho arrived, even though I was still using it. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would come back. Next time I'll simplify things and order the pho with just the raw beef--and I'll definitely get those egg rolls again. read more

The food was amazing. I ordered your typical pho with rare beef and the Chinese broccoli and I really enjoyed it. As someone who has visited Vietnam and ate pho there I will definitely be returning for my fix! The broth was super flavorful. The only thing is in Vietnam the noodles are a bit thicker but it was still delicious! read more

Food was great and service was friendly! Limited on the hoisin sauce and didn't provide chili flakes but other than that the food was delicious. Only thing I disliked was how much fat was on my steak, but that's just a personal preference read more

A Dong - Rare beef combination - Vietnamese Near Me - Selma, Texas

Was in the area and was craving vietnamese food! The menu is very extensive with many dishes! The service was great! Food came out relatively fast, especially the appetizers. We ordered the fresh spring rolls; the peanut sauce was super flavorful! The combination pho was filling with great portions of meat and seafood! The beef and broccoli had a lot of flavor, and the duck was cooked well! They were also noce enough to pack the leftover pho in a soup container for us. There's plenty of free parking in front, and lots of seating inside, both tables and booths. The restaurants was very clean. They also have a small selection of alcoholic drinks, including house red and white wines read more

Mom and I had a great time at A Dong. We arrived just after lunch and had our choice of tables. We were able to order our drinks immediately, and given plenty of time to check the menu. I already new I was going for the combination bun. In the meantime, I got an order of summer rolls (goi cuon) which had both thin slices of pork and shrimp. It was deliciously fresh. My mom ordered the combination lo mein, which was well seasoned. Plenty of meats to go with the noodles. My bun also came shortly after we finished the appetizer. It came with fried pork and spring roll. No issues ordering an extra serving of the Vietnamese dipping sauce (nuoc cham). The server check on us pretty regularly. Service was great. I'd have zero problem choosing this place if I wanted Vietnamese food in the Forum. read more

I really like the food here but they can use a cleaning, too many flies. I'm skeptical about ordering take out because of this.

Great spot for pho and noodles to share! I recently started going to this spot and so far it hasn't disappointed. The pho is really flavorful and the summer rolls are very fresh. Last time I went I decided to get their thick noodles! First, this is a shareable portion! Second, wow! I was very impressed! All the flavors were blended well. Service was fast! It's a very chill spot! read more

I used to come here often, but today will be my last visit. The staff member (specifically the younger girl with the mask who is always rude) repeatedly asked me for a tip, which made me uncomfortable. I always tip and usually leave around 20%, but I don't think it's appropriate to pressure customers for one especially when basic service like refilling water or bringing the check wasn't provided. Tips should be appreciated, not expected. Unfortunately, this experience changed my view of this place. Goodbye read more

WARNING DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!! Saw a huge roach in white powder no doubt from getting inside their flour bag server was RUDE,Food was TERRIBLE,IDK WHAT ANIMAL THEY USED BUT IT WAS NOT PORK!!!! If you've seen inside of pork meat you'll know it's NOT PORK! I threw up immediately after I left and seeing the roach REALLY made me regret eating it! Good thing I puked the food isn't just bad but it's like dog or some other weird animal NOT PORK! on top of that I shouldn't be seeing large roaches walking around ever and worse ON MY FIRST VISIT! I should've taken a pic but honestly I was SO DISGUSTED and ENRAGED OF HOW UNSANITARY this place was my instinct was just to immediately pay and LEAVE! DO NOT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO RISK BIG ROACHES IN THE FLOUR OF FOOD YOU WILL EAT! Surprised this place is even open it is unsanitary and SHOULD NOT BE! NEVER COME HERE AGAIN! Dining with the local Vietnamese & Asian community is always a good find. This is a frequent spot for us and what keeps bringing us back is the squid salad; served on a bed of chopped romaine, tomato medallions, chargrilled onions AND pickled onions. It's fresh and it's savory. Service and entrees are delivered to the table rather quickly so if you are in a hurry to get some shopping done in the area, this is a good spot. My one recommendation for the last two stars is overall cleanliness and a design upgrade of the restrooms. I just wish these could be nicer. I think it's well attainable with some cosmetic attention read more

We came here on Saturday at 11 to try it out for the first time. The service was friendly and the food was really good! I had the lunch special with the honey chicken and vermicelli noodles. It came with an egg roll and a soup. I got egg drop and it was really good. My friend also got a coffee and it was a drip coffee situation and it was nice and fresh. She let me taste it and it was delicious. We will definitely be back to try more that they offer. read more

As someone who grew up with just Vietnamese cuisine. This was not for me. Everyone says if I want authentic Vietnamese food in Texas. I'll have to go to Houston. The place in itself is nice and clean. I had a great customer service, but it just wasn't authentic Vietnamese food. Hopefully I'll find a spot here in San Antonio. read more

I love this restaurant. I've been eating here off and on for almost 10 years. My favorite thing to order is the fried squid. It is so delicious and delicately fried. It's hard to explain. It's special, fresh, and always arrives quickly. It's not like calamari at all, which I also love. It's a little sweet paired with the lime and salt you squeeze over it and balances so well with the salad and rice. Staff is always friendly, dining area is always clean and the prices are very reasonable. What more could you want? So good. read more

I lived in LA for almost 10 years and found some of the best Pho restaurants, and this is now my favorite!!! Just moved to San Antonio and I must say this place is just as good!!! I ordered the rare steak pho to go and the meat was fresh, the broth was piping hot, as it should be, and they had all the delicious basil, sprouts, jalapeños, etc. to go with it. My husband and I went here 2 days back to back when we were sick and it made us feel a lot better! This is definitely my new Pho place! Side note: their pho is better than their ramen, in our opinion. Service is also way nicer than other places I have been to and timely. You know this place is good when all the Asians come here! Try it out, you won't regret it! read more

I went here for the lunch special which, I am happy to report, happens 7 days a week! The Pepper steak was amazing, the broccoli beef was very tasty, and beef tips were spot on! Place has gotten much better and service is good too. The Pho is amazing and volume is big. Hard to finish everything. I love the brisket or barbecue pork Pho. This place is located in the Forum shopping center next to Orange Leaf. They are currently closed on Wednesday just a heads up. Pho is good anytime but especially if it's cold outside. I believe in second chances and glad we came back. Try them out if you're a Pho lover. You won't be disappointed. read more

I was considering going to A Dong but they don't have a website to see the current menu. Why have a restaurant without a website?

We really enjoy coming here. The place is always clean. Employees are nice and helpful. There is indoor and outdoor seating here. They have both booth and tables. The floor freaks me out every time I walk in. It is shiny and I always think it is wet. So I always check the floor when I go in. My wife and I shared a plate. Plenty of food for sharing. We had the special lomein plate. We like this dish, it has a smoky flavor to it. It has plenty of vegetables and meats in the mix. We also got a couple of fried egg rolls. We also had the two other dishes come to our tables, unfortunately I didn't get the names of the dishes, but it was all delicious. One had the wider egg noodles and very tasty. The other dish had the noodles fried, which looked really cool and it was tasty as well. We always get good service here and it was not very busy the night we went. It was also close to closing so it wasn't very busy. Can't wait to go back again. read more

Ah! Another Pho place for me. A Dong did not disappoint. Their broth was superb. The only disappointment I had was, they, like most, do not offer tendon pho. I always get my next favorite, rare beef. Theirs did not disappoint. My friend & I also shared summer rolls, & their Viernamese spring rolls. Let me take a moment & tell you, to date - best I've had in San Antonio. The summer rolls were fresh. You could tell they hadn't been sitting around waiting to be ordered. They were fresh & absolutely delicious. The shrimp inside didn't taste nasty or old, but fresh & plump. I'd go back for their summer rolls! Now on to the other really yummy cuisine. The Vietnamese spring rolls were more like little individual spring rolls, freshly cooked. Again, not sitting around waiting to be purchased. No! These were fresh, the perfect size. If you had caught me nearly 100 pounds ago, I would have eaten these all! Just thinking about them makes me want one. But, alas I couldn't even finish the pho, & it too was really good. I brought home 3/4's of my pho. (Lucky me!) The rare beef was not old, hard or over cooked. It was perfect. We requested extra basil, cilantro & limes - & they did not disappoint. My friend & I were quite pleased with the servings. Everything was cooked to perfection, fresh, hot & served in a nice amount of time. It wasn't on the table within seconds of ordering as some places do, which to me says it's been sitting. No, this was a absolutely fresh, hot & wonderful. The staff was friendly, helpful & answered all the questions we had. I'll be back. read more

Visited late last year and recent reviews don't show much improvement. Beef and pork tasted 'odd' and questionable. Flavors were generic and quite salty. Service was lacking and had to flag server down for water a few times. We left feeling like we just wasted $$. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't good either. read more

Catfish hotpot is where it's at. It's flavored with fish sauce, which, if you've never had it, is a very strong flavor and tbh has an off putting smell...but it's delicious. Do not be fooled! It doesn't taste like what it smells like lol, it's really good. Salty, a bit sweet and the catfish is so tender it falls apart with a spoon. The chicken dish was subtly flavored with salty black bean sauce. The vegetable tempura was snow peas and asparagus, fried nicely with sweet chili sauce. Give this place a shot, and def try the catfish hotpot! read more

I really wanted to love this place because we were out looking to try a new place for my daughter's birthday but my best experience from here was the home made lemonade. I asked what kind of lemonade they served and the waiter gave me a weird and nervous laugh that just made me think they had inexperienced staff. I ordered a seafood plate that I thought should have just been amazing and instead it tasted like seafood had no flavor. Rice tasted like it was made separate from the seafood. I tried adding soy sauce and different other sauces with separate bites and just nothing tasted good with it. Disappointed I stopped trying and just thought next day left over would be better. Nope, just a huge disappointment after another. I thought the waitress that came by was a little more attentive than the nervous teenage boy but even then she didn't pick up any of our plates up when we were done eating! Huge changes need to happen if I'm ever going back!! read more

This place is pretty rock solid. I think it's safe to say A Dong is a Vietnamese restaurant despite what the signage might lead you to believe. I've had 7 or 8 entrees and 4 or 5 appetizers, and all options have been top-notch. Oozing with flavor and always fully loaded with fresh greens and bold sauces, I always leave the table satisfied. Pardon spelling mistakes, but the pho is dynamic, the bo luc lac is generous, the goi cung has the best peanut sauce (when you add a dallop of the hot chili), and the bun bun hue rocks! It helps, I think, if you can speak the language, but if you cant, be sure and point at the vietnamese options on the menu. Also: it's a bright and clean environment. Service is prompt, and they're following all covid protocols as of 6/21/20 read more
