I placed an order over the phone for two of the noodle plates, one being beef and the other being pork. The food was amazing. Being Vietnamese and not liking bean sprouts, it was refreshing to hear that Lai Sinh does not use bean sprouts in their vermicelli plates. The only thing I will deduct one star from is the difficulty of ordering. It's not so much that it's hard to order when you can reach the restaurant. It's more so the difficulty of reaching the restaurant in general. There will be days in which the hours state it is open, but when I call to place an order, the phone would not be answered. And then when I pop by the store, no one is there. Bottom line is: the Vietnamese food here is superb! However, it can be difficult to reach the restaurant to place an order. I expect that this may have been a fluke, but there were multiple days where I could not reach them. If you can stop by and/or reach them to place an order, DO IT! Food is great! read more

Small out of the way restaurant with temporary curbside only. Not much to look at, HOWEVER THE FOOD IS AMAZING! We got two rice bowls and a vermicelli bowl. The pork was my absolute favorite, perfectly seasoned and grilled. Chicken was juicy and tender. Beef was also pretty good. But the eggroll that came with the vermicelli was one of my fav parts. I wouldn't have noticed this place if my kids weren't studying Tae Kwon Do at the dojo in the same shopping center, but I am super glad I did. Every dish I've had from this place is spot-on. The pho is delicious. Every one of their fried rice dishes are perfect and plentiful. The grilled pork with vermicelli is amazing. Even the non-vietnamese items like the shumai and beef and broccoli are out of this world. They're fast, courteous, and accurate. 5 or 6 orders from them since I moved to Universal City and they have never taken longer than they quoted and the entire order has always been correct. Good Asian food is not as ubiquitous in SA as it is in other parts of the country, but Lai Sinh hits the mark.. Extra props to them for clearly communicating supply chain issues on their website and letting customers know what's available and what's not. read more

Oh boy, I lucked out in finding this place 2 days ago! At the moment it's take out or delivery only. I was wonderfully surprised with the quality of the food. The Beef Pho was excellent with the most tender beef. The Lemon pork vermicelli bowl was sublime and so was the steamed Shimai. The grind on the Shumai is a little coarse so there was a bit of fat in a few of these dumplings. I'm actually on my way over there now for the Lemon Chicken vermicelli bowl! Go now!!! read more

I've been driving by this place for years. Today I finally stopped by and picked up dinner. Everything is curbside only. I didn't know but I did ring the door bell. You can order online to make pick up easier. Today I ordered their Grilled Beef Vermicelli, fresh spring rolls and shumai. Oh wow. Everything was excellent. This is now my 8th place in San Antonio to try Pho. The broth was tasty & left a good taste after eating. I had the shank pho. I wish more places offered tendon pho, as it's my favourite. The portion was quite big, but it is my only meal for the day, so I devoured it. Everything was fresh & delicious. I'll be back. The gentleman running the place was very helpful & friendly. The only drawback, is if you don't know it's there, you'll drive by. So, slow down & head on in. This place is small, quaint & intimate in size. I think about 6-8 tables total. Oh me, oh my. Have I found a gem. I was beginning to get skeptical that I would ever find Asian food that was good like home. (Not to offend, but I've learned that different states have different palettes lo). I've scoured through the SA foodies pages and heard all about where everyone thought their favorite pho restaurant was, only to be disappointed. So naturally, when I read the reviews for Lai Sinh, I was still skeptical. During COVID, based on their google information, they are not doing dine-in, so I ordered delivery from UberEats. I mean; it took a little over an hour to get my food (the drive is only 15 minutes from my house) so I was getting hangry. The food was finally delivered, the broth reheated, the noodles placed in my asian bowl, condiments added, and there it was. The grilled beef pho. The most recommended dish on their Yelp page. How was it, you asked? Am I building up the anticipation yet? To put it subtly, it was honestly, the best pho I've ever had. I'm from California, in one of the most diverse cities in the entire United States. This pho was so unique. I can't categorize it as "authentic" because it was so different but only in the best ways. The grilled beef, though it was placed in the broth in my to-go order, had left a sweet note, almost caramelized taste in the broth. They used shredded cabbage instead of bean sprouts. (Though it didn't take away from the taste at all). The noodles were perfect, not soggy at all from the drive. It was so perfectly seasoned. In most pho restaurants, the broth is a plain canvas and you add your flavors with the condiments, but this was perfect. I needn't add anything. It was perfect. Also, their meat portions were VERY generous. One last praise: they had CHILI OIL! Without me having to ask!!! Like, that's the best thing ever! And it was SPICY! Not overall spicy, but just enough. I've noticed that in SA, they don't offer the normal gambit of condiments that I'm used to from California, but they had it all. Anyways, try it out. If you don't love it, feel free to take my "Yelp Elite" from me. I know I praised this place a lot, but I'm not being paid off or anything lol. You can tell when a business owner puts lots of care and attention into their food and establishment. Great quality, delicious tasting food. Try their refreshing jasmine tea it is so good! I wasn't too crazy about the fried tempura because it was overly cooked and you couldn't really taste the shrimp because it was crispy hard. I'll need to return to try their Pho because a person in my party said it was amazing tasting and they also give cabbage topping true-to authentic Vietnamese style pho. The server was attentive and nice, The drawback is I wouldn't be able to visit as much as I'd like due to the higher prices. I don't mind paying extra for quality though. I love this place, Hands down the best Vietnamese food in town. Every time I go here the owner is so nice and welcoming and they're always clean. The food is amazing, it's the best Authentic Vietnamese food for a cheap price you can get around here. Tried the beef fried rice and wow! So delicious, I did not expect it to be so savory. The meat was cooked just right and had plenty of flavor. Just a short update on my previous reviews. I ordered the BBQ grilled pork pho to go for my son, BTW, he is not a soup fan, but he does make an exception for a good Pho. He not only enjoyed it, but said it was the best Pho he's ever had. Coming from him, that's saying a lot! FIVE STAR ALL DAY! Everything I've tried here has been exceptional, so this was no surprise. Don't go to one of those Faux Pho chain restaurants, (yes, another Pho pun, LOL) go out of your way to get the authentic experience. Make Lai Sinh your destination for great Vietnamese. I'm fortunate that this is only a short drive away from home, but it's worth driving across Bexar county just to experience this great food. Do not hesitate!
