I'm a review girly, i am disappointed that i read over 20 reviews before coming here just to find out none of y'all have good taste. i'm from the west coast, i've had some exceptional pho and i know everyone can't make it. this is one of those places that can't make it. if you're used to a flavorful broth, tender thinly sliced meat this ain't the place for you. first red flag was when i went to order the #2 pho, they ONLY do cooked meat. i should've got up right there bcs it just got worse. the meat isn't thinly sliced so you can't tear it apart, it's also super dry. imagine, chewing and chewing and chewing and the meat still intact. its super tough. which is why i prefer the raw thinly sliced beef. 0/10 broth had a decent flavor, 5/10 no chilli oil, 0/10 no limes but they did have lemons, 2/10 other then that, clean and quiet. the waitresses were nice, i didn't use the restroom but my partner did and she says it was clean. read more

One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the San Antonio area! Being from Houston, surrounded by so many amazing restaurants I struggled in SA tryna find the right pho and boy lemme tell you LIEN HUNG IS THAT HEAT. Mmm mm mmm too good, comes with all the fixings, including the basil. Some places don't add that and the flavor is never complete for me. Their fried spring rolls are just immaculate, so crispy and light. I'm addicted to them, it's a must order. I'll be honest and say I'd never come across a spring roll fried this way until Lien Hung so that's the one thing I can say I'll probably always look for in Houston now too lol. This is definitely a whole in the wall, duvet kind of Thai restaurant that is off the beaten path. But the food is legit and affordable. Staff is friendly and will help with menu and explaining items if necessary. Food came out pretty fast; which is great when you're hungry. Sesame chicken was flavorful but a bit tough. Jaw muscles got a workout chewing this overcooked pieces of chicken. Their pho is legit. Some of the best I've had around town. I was very pleasantly surprised by this place! I have to agree with lots of other people here. The outside isn't great and would have been a deterrent if My friend hadn't gotten recommended this place. The inside was very clean. No carpet, no weird smells. We were both happy to see that they served their Vietnamese coffee the authentic way. We also noticed that they have Bahn Cuon! I have asked all over town for this dish and this is the ONLY place that has it! They also had drab pho which isn't very common to have either. Came in here on February 3 rd, around noon. This place is out of nowhere, but well worth the drive. Nice little restaurant, pretty extensive menu and they had some pretty good reviews. We were seated right away, our server was really nice and patient explaining us the menu as there is so much to choose from. The food was pretty awesome just not as authentic as I would like it to be. Definitely great value for the money in the portions were awesome. My recommendation is to stick with the Chinese food than the Vietnamese food. The one thing I did not care for was the older gentleman/owner staring at us on and off as we were eating awkward! I guess that's what happens when you pull up in a 2020 red Lamborghini . I guess Texas wasn't ready for that read more

The sketchy Vietnamese place is what people I know call this spot. The reason is for the gated store and parking area with bars around the restaurant. Inside it's not sketchy at all. Just a normal Vietnamese restaurant. They only take cash so make sure you're prepared. They have a mixed menu of Vietnamese and Chinese food. I had the chance to try both. First visit, I had the pho dac biet which is the special combination pho with all meats. Portion sizes are decent and flavors are pretty good. The next visit I had the pepper steak. It was different from the authentic one but still good. Usually it has a lot of black pepper which gives it a good spicy kick, but this one was more like a gravy sauce on beef. After more than two years break I tried this place again. The ambiance didn't changed and the menu is now placed in a book, it has some pictures too. BUT: there must be a major change in the kitchen! I ordered Pho and it was delicious! Not fatty and seasoned just right. The accompanied veggies fresh and crispy. I returned to this place many times since I never left disappointed. This is a pretty good place that was recommended by some co-workers. The challenge was getting there due to construction just about everywhere along the route. However, we did get there. Anyway, we ordered the combination fried rice, and two vermicelli bowls: mine with BBQ pork and spring rolls, the husband's with beef. The rice had an awesome flavor. If it was MSG, bring it on. So tasty. My bowl was also very good. The spring rolls not so much. Hardly any filling. The husband thoroughly enjoyed his bowl and scarfed most of the rice. The restaurant sits on its own enclosed by a fence plot of land with its own parking. The area is a mixed retail/residential setup. Kind of odd. Take a right out of the parking lot onto Fratt Road and you eventually hit Rittiman Road. We should have come in this way. Definitely easier going home. The place has two TVs on the wall, one set to CNN, the other to a cooking show, I believe. I have to admit because of the difficulty getting here, it might not be on our regular rotation. I've been coming to lien hung ever since 2000, it reminds me of all the good ol high school days and memories spent here. It's been open for so long, they're doing something right with the food. Here's my quick pros/cons: Downsides: -Service isn't spectacular so don't have high expectations -cash or check only -parking can be difficult if you come during a crowded time -vermicelli bowl (#35) with meatballs and spring roll. What a disappointment! Its either i had poor quality taste as a high schooler or the restaurant has significantly lowered in quality. I asked for more veggies, not that iceberg lettuce is nutritional at all, but they didnt even load my bowl up with lots of greens. Plus it was noodle overload. Not a fan of this and ive had much better vermicelli bowls, especially in houston. -my sister got the mongolian beef and was surprised by the amount of beef they served. It was quite pathetic. She disliked her entire meal,so I wouldn't recommend ordering Chinese food at a viet restaurant. Upsides: -Vietnamese iced coffee is delicious, you cant mess up here. Tip: water it down so you can have at least 2 refills -Theyve renovated this place and the menus. So much better than what it used to look like before -my friend loves the lemon chicken here. You cant mess up lemon chicken. -my mom and sister got #5 combination pho and they scarved it up. The best thing is probably stick with the Pho. So all in all, I gotta give it 2 stars. My taste buds must have "grown up or matured" ever since I've been living in houston and having quality viet food. read more

Based on this first visit, I would be hard pressed to come back to this place. Nothing we ordered was remotely good. My husband ordered the #22 bun cha gio thit nuong (vermicelli noodle with egg rolls and grilled pork). The egg rolls and thin pieces of pork had no flavor. To make it even more bland, it was served with iceberg lettuce and cucumber. Pork wasn't even grilled. To be fair, the noodles had a nice toothsomeness and the accompanying fish sauce was ok. Some mints, basil, or cilantro would have helped make the dish a bit better. But alas, there were no herbs. Fail #1 Fail #2 was my dish, the special - bo kho (beef stew). This is was greasy dishwater with a hint of curry. Could not detect any use of lemongrass, star anise, ginger, tomatoes, or anything else that makes bo kho BO KHO! So why the generous 2 stars you ask? The service was ok and we did like the noodles, fish sauce, and bread. But we won't be regulars here. read more
