I've taken multiple cars here (honestly I'm not a bad driver its usually not my fault) :) They are always very professional and do a thorough walk-through with you when you drop off the car. They deal directly with State Farm which is nice as it is one less thing you have to worry about. Through the entire process (many times) they communicate very well to let you know when your car will be done. I recently had a door that they did some work on that wasn't closing so well. Brought it in and they immediately took care of it at no charge since it was a repair they had done in the past. I've never actually felt compelled to write a Yelp review until now. The staff are ridiculously friendly and helpful and I have never felt like I was being taken advantage of for my lack of automotive knowledge. Last summer I brought my car in for a repair quote, and then got busy and never came back to actually have it repaired. Then, someone recently sideswiped my car, so I brought it back in to get both damages fixed. They honored the quote from last summer on the old damages, and since the new damage was in the same area, didn't charge me any extra to repair both. Amazing. On top of that, I brought my car in on a Monday, they said it would be done on Wednesday, and then called me on Tuesday to say it was ready to be picked up. I will never go anywhere else. read more

Someone rear-ended my car, their insurance covered it, they said to take it here. Problem solved. A Carr's Car Star struck me as a place where they do the job right. Someone hit my car and broke my tail light while I was in class, so I took my car here to get it fixed. This place is wonderful! The employees are very kind and considerate, and will help you to get the most out of your car repair. They even got done with the repair when I needed them to, which I greatly appreciate, because I needed my car back for work. For filling out a questionnaire, they gave me a free water bottle. Also, when I got back in my car and drove it home, I noticed there was a thank-you note and a flower on the passenger seat. A few months ago I was driving and was hit by another driving who went through a red light. Unfortunately, his insurance refused to pay ... so I had to go with my insurance - and even more unfortunately, I had really crummy insurance. I knew I wanted to select my own body shop to fix the car - I wanted it done right. I got three quotes from shops recommended by friends - and A Carrs Carstar was one of them. Rich from A Carrs treated me like a sister/daughter from the minute I walked in to get an estimate. This whole process is super intimidating when you don't know anything about cars, but Rich explained the process and and how they will work with my insurance company to get the car fixed right and paid.... Their quote was a little higher than the others... but the other shops weren't as thorough in their estimating, so in the end I think the cost would have been the same no matter where I went... Of course working with my insurance company was painful... but Rich and team took care of all of that so that I didn't have to worry about it. And of course it took much longer than I expected, but again, that had to do with the insurance co dragging their feet. I love these guys! A few months back, a guy dented my car's trunk with the cattle prod on the front of his car. (Good job parallel parking dude with unnecessary accessories on your urban jeep!) Anyway, it left a really huge dent which eventually started to rust, and I realized that if i didn't get it fixed, eventually I could have a hole in my trunk. So, i asked around to my friends and colleagues, and Carstar came highly recommended to me. I called, made an appointment, and when i brought the car in, they gave me a good estimate, and promised that my car would be ready by the beginning of the next week. Two days later (a full 5 days earlier than promised!), my car was ready! I went to pick it up, and not only did they remove the dent and paint the trunk perfectly, they vacuumed and cleaned the interior! I was really impressed with the work that they did, in the price that they did it. The reviews on this site make no sense to me. My grandmother has gone to this body shop for many many years, she is in her late 80's, and she is in love with them there. They have done great work on her car and treated her with respect and consideration at all times. They have helped her to save money, despite the fact that she would not know the difference, they have been more than helpful to her. Recently I was in a car accident so I decided to go there for the work and Max was super helpful and the made the whole process very easy and smooth. They were very friendly and courteous. The work they did was great! They were affordable and saved me money that I almost threw away at a dealership on some other work I had them do. They are truly wonderful and I would recommend that anyone needing work on their car go to this shop at least to get their estimate and see for themselves that they go above and beyond to help you there. read more

The people at A Carrs Carstar must have taken these reviews to heart because my experience with them has been great. I have been there three separate times; twice for a new rear bumper and , most recently. a front bumper. Each time they were polite and efficient. Their work was great, too! For each job, I was able to come in for an estimate, which, was quick and painless. They called me when the part was in. I brought my car in. They told me when it would be ready. They called the day to confirm it was ready and I picked it up. On the last job, they found more damage once they took the bumper off. Tony called and let me know. He told me when my car would be ready. Once a gain, I got a call confirming the job's completion. All jobs were done well. I felt good about the work done and for some reason I felt like my car was sturdier when I left. The people that worked there greeted me when I came in and offered my coffee or a pop. I can't remember the gentleman's name who helped me the first time I went there, but he was nice. The last two times I dealt with Tony. He was great to work with! This place works directly with my insurance company, which, made things super easy. Also, if you need a rental, they will call Enterprise (right down the road) and have them come pick you to go get your rental car. I was working in Chicago when unfortunately a hail storm pummeled my Honda Element. The hood and roof needed to be replaced and several spots on the doors needed fixing where the hail bounced into them. I took it to A Carrs Carstar which was easy to find. The staff was courteous and friendly even though they were super busy. I was concerned with being from out of town that this would extend my stay but my car was done when they said it would be. In response to the reply below: In Chicago, over the last 1-2 years that I have lived here I have parked my car in public parking, without blocking any business spaces or entrances, as a driver and as a potential customer who would be paying for services, on the street, near businesses which do not have hours that align with my own work schedule to come in. Despite your assumptions about me or my vehicle based on the plates on one of my vehicles, I was able to receive friendly and prompt service from 3 other shops, with quotes, same day and within the next few business days, without charge. I was even offered to leave my vehicle an extra day for pick-up if necessary, thanks to the shops being friendly and understanding of schedule differences. I have experienced the same with friends cars since first coming to Chicago in 2015 for the summer. Fortunately, this is not a Chicago issue. This is a your business issue. I have never demanded service anywhere in any state, but when businesses supply services, generally patrons inquiring for service, are serviced as customers. Not the case in your shop. Hence this yelp review. I will enjoy living in this city as I have the last few years, by avoiding your shop and keeping others from having to experience the poor "business" you engage in. It is unfortunate you wish to be argumentative and blame would-of-been-paying customers (by assumption), instead of addressing complaints or issues. I know, personally, and especially in business, when an individual has an issue with my practices or actions, I try to find a common ground to work things out, best as possible for both parties. You may benefit from this same approach. But if your shop is so busy it cannot work with any customers, I am surprised you find time to refute yelp reviews in an argumentative and judging manner. Do you like being yelled at by an emotionally unstable owner when you ask questions about unauthorized charges on your bill? If so, then Carstar is the place for you! I was picking up our car that was in an accident with a commercial truck. The adjustor recommended Carstar, obviously if I had read all the bad review I would have chosen a different option. We got an estimate, told the trucking company involved in the accident, and they cut us a check for that amount. The final price was a good $300 more than the estimate. I hadn't been called for authorization, which was a requirement stated in the estimate I signed, and was now out $300. When I first brought this up, they claimed it was partially a "mistake" and took about $100 of the extra charges off. Ok, maybe it was an honest mistake. Fine. But what about the rest of the charges? They said it was due to some of the parts being more expensive than they realized. When I pressed them on this, the owner Max Schulze snapped and yelled at me to "stop busting his balls." At first I thought he was joking, but he went off on a rant about how I'm probably "the kind of person who always does this shit." It's slightly amusing thinking back on it, but at the time it was confusing and a bit pathetic to watch. The owner of this shop was having a complete emotional breakdown, a temper tantrum, in front of several employees, verbally abusing a customer who was asking about unauthorized charges. They kept telling me to just tell the insurance company the new amount to cover the difference, but that didn't work with my situation. It obviously seems like they're used to upcharging customers to get more money from insurance companies. Who knows, Max, maybe you were having a bad day? Given the fact that 90% of businesses in Chicago seem to be auto body repair shops, there are plenty of other options where you don't run the risk of interacting with a man-baby. But then again if you're the kind of person who doesn't mind being taken advantage of, pushed around, and overcharge by a Donald Trump-like buffoon, then check out Carstar! read more

I took my car here about a year ago and everything was fine. I got it back on time, the people were decent, and I was pleased. This time, it was a completely different story. I took the car in for an accident that involved front end damage. Some repairs were made to the radiator. When I picked the car up, the check engine light was on. I immediately returned to the shop and said this light had not been on before, & I thought it was related to the repair. I mentioned a coolant indicator had come on, and I thought the problem might have something to do with the radiator repair. They looked at my car and told me that the check engine light could mean any number of things, and that it had nothing to do with the repairs that were done. They told me I needed to see a mechanic to determine why the light was on. This is exactly what I did. My mechanic told me that the coolant system had not been properly bled, and this was causing the error. The cost was $200 to bleed the system and flush it. I called Max and told him I had taken the car to a mechanic as I was told to do and that the issue was that the coolant system has not been properly bled. He told me too bad, I was out of luck because I hadn't had the repair done at his shop. He said I should have called him first. I said, I did - I showed up in your shop as soon as I picked up the car. He said he was not paying for this repair. He then followed up the next morning with a rather nasty and condescending email talking about his wife's car and how he couldn't just go anywhere he wanted to complete repairs on it. I responded and again explained how his shop told me the repair had nothing to do with the work they had done, and that I needed to see a mechanic. He then sent two more emails ranting and raving. He said he had discussed my case with several other insurance agents, none of whom were my insurance agency, and they all agreed with him. He sent another carrying on about the man who had looked at my car, telling me he was a 46 year veteran and was working for fun, and had no reason to lie. He included this man on the email and said he would respond to all of us about the lies we had told. It was completely unprofessional and ridiculous. In fact he copied my insurance agent on these emails, and she called me before I had even read them to ask me if I had seen them. She was reporting it to her supervisors since this was a preferred shop for State Farm. She was going to recommend they be removed due to this horrible customer service. I contacted the corporate offices of Carstar and they are now looking into this issue. read more
