A lower middle class cafe under the flight path for Lisbon Airport.
A huge percentage of Lisbon is under the flight path
Including the University which is nearby.
At the University, the planes are so low you could almost catch them with a butterfly net.
Lisbon is good about not sticking poor people next to transport disamenities such as train tracks and flight paths.
There are all sorts of income groups under the flight path.
They intentionally build luxury apartments next to train tracks.

There are better and worse places near A Camponesa.
The place itself is worn down and comfortable.
Think about an old pair of slippers that you have worn around the house for years.
It draws a good neighborhood crowd at any hour of the day.
They come here because the prices are low, the food is good and the owners are nice.

Their lunch menu runs to about fifteen items -
All various main dishes of meat or vegetables with sides.
The lunch plates run around eight euros.
That is a good price for Lisbon in general.
It is a typical price for a prato executivo which is Portuguese for lunch special.
But most cafes don't set their all prices at the prato executivo level.
I didn't actually have a lunch special.
However, judging from the crowd,
And judging from my coffee and dessert,
I am going to bet that those pratos executivos are pretty good.

A Camponesa is a reasonable shot. read more
